I used to frequent Cornelius hoping to find...well inspiration. That's because although I love my plants, I found myself rarely acknowledged or helped when visiting. After reading the positive Yelp reviews raving about the friendly customer service, I browsed every now and again, hoping to find a helpful hand. Today I did. Shoutout to the crew working today, who not only greeted me upon arrival but also helped me find what I need for both my current and new home. I ended up purchasing a few pots for root bound plants and constructing a plan for the landscaping in my backyard. As a newer green thumb, it was incredibly helpful to have some guidance as I made decisions...I've killed a lot of plants in my day. My mother who loves shopping for flowers came here and she wanted to try this new place for the first time. The flowers were all pretty but bad customer service at the register. The register guy was very blunt with us due to our race but his tone of voice changed completely to the other customers. We were letting him know that we were paying with cash and he quickly followed with "I know" which bothered me a lot. My mother only said it once and he rudely replied to her that way. read more

Bougie nursery with bougie prices. You'll find very cute garden supplies, art, plants at this nursery. Most of the staff is friendly, but of course we encountered the one male cashier who seemed annoyed at being there. Other than that one unpleasant experience, the staff is helpful with a smile (take note Stephen). There is ample parking for an area of Houston that always has traffic. Check out the entire space with the inside store. Some cute knickknacks that you may find at grandma's house. Friendly staff that are helpful. My plants from this nursery tend to do the best versus others from around Houston and survive our frost/hurricane crazy weather. They have the best prices also on herbs, and I enjoy getting plant cuttings on annuals and indoor plants. My Favorite recent find was a .49 cent pumpkin! It's worth to check them out during each season to see what they have. Just make sure you don't take home some seasonal hitchhikers. This center has the most cared for healthy plants though and you can really tell and see the hard work. read more

No one has offered to return my money since the infested plants that I bought died. When I went to the store and mentioned that my plants had died, no one offered to replace the plants. When I called the store and asked them to set aside replacement plants for me they told me they would not set them aside. I rushed over, again, and the plants were sold. This is the second time that I have bought plants from Cornelius that have been infested with bugs that have died. I suspect the Cornelius is very well aware that they are selling sick plants because when I went back to replace them, they were all gone. I suspect that Cornelius had thrown them away and that they are lying. I purchased extra ladybugs and praying mantises from Cornelius. NOT INEXPENSIVE to try and save the sick dying infested plants that I boughtfrom Cornelius. It didn't help. Cornelius didn't offer to refund my money for those either. THE RESPONSE FROM CORNELIUS HERE IS ALSO A LIE. THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF HELPING ME OR RETURNING MY MONEY. INCIDENTALLY, I HAVE ASKED MY NEIGHBORS I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON THAT HAPPENED TO. I'M NOT THE FIRST PERSON THAT HAS THESE ISSIES. WITH THIS NURSERY. My neighbors didn't get their money, returned to them either. I went to other nurseries here in town and I replaced the plants. I planted them in the exact same pots with the exact same dirt that I had planted Cornelius sick and Infested dying plants. And the replacement plants are perfectly healthy. The management at Cornelius is not helpful. They are rude and they lie. Their plants are overpriced. I would suggest going every single place in town other than Cornelius. I won't waste another minute of my time arguing with these people or bargaining for what should rightly be mine. Don't post anymore lying responses to my review, Cornelius. I don't wanna hear your backtalk. I don't wanna hear your double talk. You can refund my money, you can call ME. I literally found better plants at the Home Depot. Do not go to Cornelius nursery. Where do I begin with this place! It was out first time at this nursery and I'm so glad we stopped by when were visiting in town. The parking situation outside is kinda medium sized but theres ample parking. Just be wary of stray garden carts when parking. There are two facilities, a nursery and a flower shop. The flower shop had the typical decor and fake plants. The real action is outside in the nursery. From soil amendments to predatory insects (yes you read that correctly), to houseplants and landscaping plants, this place truly has it all! They has over 12 different types of tomatoes and plenty other pollinating plants to attract the good bugs! Over all we just ended up getting this massive florida green, very healthy and lush, and this baby pineapple plant (a great novelty). Next time you are in town, make sure to stop by and see their great selection. Trees, shrubs, flowers and all! You will not be disappointed! read more

This is a yes for me. One of THE BEST nurseries I've been to in Texas. Wide selection of almost everything you can think of - fruit trees, herbs, flowers, home plants, pots, gardening tools, etc. Think of this place as the Lowe's of all things plants. I was rather surprised how big this place is and the impeccable selection they have of indoor and outdoor plants. I bought my Philodendron Florida Green here for $99.99, this to me is a fair price since it was already fully rooted and ready to be re-potted. They also have a small selection of rare plants like the dubia (shingling plant). The service here is also great, the employees here check on you and ask if you need anything. You can also see that the plants here are well kept and are water frequently. All the plants are pruned and are healthy. Unlike other basic plant nurseries, this place seems to pay attention to detail to their plants and make sure they are taken care of. I didn't come across any plants that were dead or overly packed in a pot. Highly recommend this place, come support and buy your plants here. read more

This nursery is so cute! I never knew there was a nursery so close to me - I just never paid attention when driving down Voss. Plenty of parking, gorgeous stone building and so many pretty plants! I was looking for something pretty & pink. I found 2 Ceraniums and 1 Geranium to take home to liven up my balcony some. The men who work in the nursery were helpful and asked if they could be of any assistance. The woman at the cash register was meh. Didn't greet me when I walked in, just kind of stared. When checking out, she asked if I was a part of their rewards program(which I know nothing about) and didn't bother telling me more about it. I do plan to join because I love rewards and plan on getting more plants, but I think they need to work on that area of customer service a bit. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here for your plant needs. read more

I've been shopping at this store ever since it opened up great staff wonderful product this year the products kind of downsized specially no Mark Roberts and that's the quality of stuff that's coming out so I can't blame the store but one thing I can say is you've got a few people there that are just absolutely wonderful. You've got one person who thinks she runs the gift shop And I've said something all the way to the manager at corporate and when you have to deal with her like I did yesterday I'm finally writing a review I can I'm a retired schoolteacher and I have a great personality but when I have to have work with someone who has an attitude she's new to the gift shop she got transferred from the Sugarland store I wasn't gonna say anything, but after yesterday and having to deal with her on the phone and her not being able to help me out is not acceptable like I told John peters I'll give anybody the benefit of the doubt but compassion and how another person treats. Another staff person here is not acceptable. We see that we were the Customer, we come in here. I spent a lot of money in this Cornelius , I eventually drove all the way to the Sugarland store where Terri was transferred and had the utmost attention 100% service from Terri and the staff there that should tell you something and this person that they put at the Voss store used to be at the Sugarland store, so what I'm saying is that kindness goes a long way and I don't know how you can fix a person who's has such an attitude and think she's queen of Sheba . Oh by the way, when this person's not there there's the staff is so relaxed in the gift shop and upfront and anywhere on go on Thursdays and Sundays when that person is not here and I feel so relaxed, but when I go in the gift shop and have to deal with Queen Sheba I'm sorry and I told John Peters in person why ? This place is GORGEOUS! They have such a wide selection of such beautiful flowers, I kind of wanted to get all of them. Their planters err on the side of really freaking huge. I think this is more geared towards people with actual outside gardens, but they're also able to cater your small planting needs. Their succulents are $2.99 for the 2" ones, and I believe $4.99 for 4" ones. There are, however, some sales on particular ones and there are succulents which are even small than 2" and they come in their own itty bitty eensy weensy 1" pots. It's adorable and cost effective. Orchids are big and beautiful here but unfortunately no mini orchids which is part of what I was looking for. They've also got some carnivorous plants here that look pretty interesting. Lines get long at checkout on weekends but are thankfully pretty fast moving. Workers are quick and cheery. Parking is pretty reasonable. Tucked away just off Westheimer; pretty easily accesible. read more

Cornelius Nursery has been a fixture in Houston for many decades. Quality plants are always available at Cornelius. Because I spent the summers during my teenage years working at a plant nursery it's simple to recognize the difference when a plants condition and traits are correct. There is something distinctive and comforting in the knowledge that those things which caused Cornelius to stand out as a premier Houston nursery back during the 1970's and 1980's continue to exist. My girlfriend loves lemons in her water so the goal was to buy a lemon tree for her to have fresh lemons whenever she likes. When we came to Cornelius, we needed help, and we go a lot. We spoke to a few different people in different areas of the nursery, and everyone was not only incredibly helpful, but knew what they were talking about. They told us about the care for the tree, pots size, best soil, and even pruning tips. In addition to the lemon tree we wanted, we ended up buying a large Alocasia Calidora (elephant ear) with large pot and soil that is beautifully on display in our living room. This place is an amazing place to go if you need help with plants or plant related info. We will be coming back in the future for anything we need in that area. This nursery has been our favorite in Houston since the 2000s when Teas Nursery began to decline. Its prices are higher than Home Depot or Walmart prices. If you're used to high-end nurseries or come from Austin, the prices will still seem low to you. They have lots of organic vegetables and less-common plants. I saw some fuyu persimmon trees, fig trees, plum trees, apple trees, pear trees, pecan trees, oak trees, blackberry bushes among hundreds of other plant species. Many of their pots have Monrovia labels on them. I've also seen some from a San Antonio nursery. They recently reorganized some of the layout and expanded the parking lot, making it even bigger and better. The employees are nice and helpful. If you're dragged here by some plant-lover, there are interesting and peaceful walks around the area that you can take. It feels like a pretty safe area. If you have visitors who love plants and a couple of hours free, taking them here might be fun. Cornelius is fairly easy to find, but if you're driving too fast along Hillcroft/Voss Rd north of the Westheimer intersection, you may see the driveway pass you. It is in between a hand car wash and a Texas Art Supply. read more

This nursery is a must place during spring.They got the best maintenance and also maintain a wide range of samplings for a good price. They got a huge parking area round the place and they maintain some garden decor along with plants. In my opinion Saturday mornings are the best time to visit. Regarding the price range, they are almost near to Home Depot ,Walmart. But the plus point here is you get the fresh plants for the same price. Highly recommend this place as we are regular here for vegetable samples (Reg $2.99). read more

They have a wide variety of plants which I love however their customer service is terrible. I brought one of my own plants in to find a pot for it. I was trying it out in different pots but then had trouble removing it from this one pot and asked for help. They were able to get my plant out of their pot but broke off a large and main stem in the process. They didn't seem to care were completely rude when I said I no longer wanted the pot. read more

I got a couple plants here in the past and this place is the only plant nursery in Houston that I've gone to that's sold me plants that ended up being loaded with parasites. The English ivy plant and Boston fern I got from here both died due to an infestation of scale mites. It was the first time I'd ever experienced a plant pest infestation and I was very lucky they didn't spread to my other houseplants because I had quarantined the two in away from my other plants (that I'd gotten elsewhere). There is also an older woman that works here who seems to have major issues with controlling her temper as I heard her screaming at what were clearly other employees for god knows what while I was shopping. Extremely unprofessional and it weirded me out to hear it + made me feel uncomfortable. I don't care what the problem is, don't yell at people and certainly don't display to your customers that kind of behavior. Your plants will be way better off if you go elsewhere. Even Houston garden centers have never sold me parasite infested plants, and that's saying a lot... read more

So far our favorite nursery in the Houston area, despite a 100 mile round trip drive. The staff REALLY knows and loves their stock. Great location on Galveston Bay. I've wasted my money on the Houston chain nurseries and paid for it with non-flowering wisteria and banana trees that don't make bananas. Go to Cornelius. read more

We go to Cornelius to get all of our plants and seeds. Their selection is extensive and just looks so much healthier than the plants and trees you find at the Home Depots of the world. They are a tad pricey on the bags of soil, mulch, etc. but it seems like everything is organic and as natural as possible. We are also always happy with the wealth of information that their staff shares with us so we know we are getting the right plants and doing everything right for them to grow well. We recently went to prepare our garden for the spring and got great tips on planting citrus trees, blueberries and blackberries. I will certainly come back every season for my plants and seeds. read more
