Since COVID I, like a lot of people, have really gotten into the house plant scene. Along with learning about the actual living plants comes learning about how (and how not) to take care of all your new plant babies. Cue frantic searching for that specialty fertilizer, rooting hormone and soil that plantfluenster you follow recommended! Yes, I hate to say I fell to blindly following the latest plant trend but at least it did lead me to Hydroshack Hydroponics in the Heights. Don't let the name throw you off, they carry lots of dirt-growing plant goodies, too- Fox farm Happy Frog and Ocean forest soil, that rooting hormone I was told I needed, soil additives like orchard bark and perlite, grow lights.. and friendly advice to help you navigate the expensive and overwhelming choices you now have to make. Really loved how easy everyone was to talk with, as well as how quickly they helped me find what I came for and made several recommendations based on what I was trying to accomplish. In this case I went to their website to get a idea of what they have related to service sales and products along with their store. I have never seen a better website with more information and clear meaning for knowledgeable detailed information. I look forward to visiting their store. Once again what a crazy review but the more we make an informed decision under these conditions with travel restrictions and Covid warnings the more important it is to visit a website and talk to the company. Back in 2018, when I went through a pretty intense gardening phase (I know, I'm pretty lame) I started dabbling in hydroponics (and by dabbling I mean went hog wild). Being constrained to a one bedroom apartment with a balcony that gets essentially no sunlight it was inevitable. This place has all your needs, net cups, premise black plastic reservoirs, clay pebbles, nutrients yadda yadda yadda. You name it, it's got it. The guy that works there is pretty helpful too so don't be scared to ask questions. They're net cup prices are cheaper than Amazon too, like under $0.50 a pot. So whether you're growing spinach and tomatoes like I was, or maybe something a little more....illegal, be sure to stop by for some supplies! read more

Have you ever heard about "hydroponics," the method of growing plants without soil using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent? I had not, but when my friend told me about urban farming and how hydroponics was the way of the future, I was intrigued to find out more! What hooked me was I was told how I could grow my own vegetables inside of the comfort of my own home in an efficient and clean way with minimal effort. I went to Hydroshack Hydroponics to learn more. I met with the owner, Chris, and he brought me into the grow room on display. He explained everything from the different techniques used in hydroponics, the different light setups, the nutrients used, and even showed me the equipment used to make "RO water" (reverse osmosis for water purification). He walked me around the store and showed me the most beneficial nutrients that plants needed when vegetating and flowering. What I really liked was how he talked about the issues that most of his clients run into like root rot and nutrient deficiencies. I learned a lot from Chris, and he gave me a lot of ideas about indoor gardening. He was really friendly, knowledgeable, and gave amazing customer service. He even had a fancy coffee machine in the store and offered me some fresh coffee! It was a great experience, and when I am ready to start an indoor garden setup, I will definitely be back to Hydroshack Hydroponics. read more

I've been buying various fertilizers here for some time for my vegetable garden. They remember a face from visit to visit and are always super friendly, asking how prior purchases worked out. Don't think I've ever been in and not gotten what I was after. If you have questions about anything they're certainly happy to help explain how equipment works. Speaking of equipment, they have pretty much anything you'd want for lighting and hydro setups. Prices are generally fair if you're interested in buying local and not going online. read more

First time visit to your shop on 3/27. Came after a 1000w mag ballast and your website said a SGO100C was in stock. When I got there all you had was 600w SG units. The dream come true came when gentleman politely apologized for the website error and promptly offered a used 1000W for $30. I could not be happier!! Garden lighting doesn't come cheap and you just saved me over $100! The owner was friendly from the start, but allowed us time to browse on our own. Everything I will need was available on the shelf at very reasonable prices.
