Been eagerly anticipating visiting here and finally was able to do so for after-church lunch with a couple friends today. Food was excellent - I had the pulled pork sandwich (Q style, of course!) with fries as my side. The sandwich was full of flavor, and the fries were really tasty too - perhaps just a bit too salty. Loved the kick of the Texas spicy sauce. Great outdoor seating area and friendly, attentive wait staff. Only reason I give four stars instead of five is because counter service was slow and a little brusque. read more

This review is for the management and poor service at this location. My husband asked for barbecue for Father's Day. As a result we settled on Q. Not the best but it'll do is what we thought. At 6pm I went online and it said 80-95 minute wait so instead I called in to place an order for carry out. The person answered the phone and told me it would be a 60 minute wait for my order. I said "thats fine." and she said, "please hold." After being on hold for about 5 minutes, she comes back on the phone and says, "we're no longer taking orders over the phone." I replied, "does that mean I need to come in? Are you taking orders at the restaurant?" She replied, "Yes." I arrived at the restaurant less than 10 minutes later. When I start placing my order, I'm stopped, "ma'am we aren't taking any more orders today." I was pissed! Why did you just tell me to come in and order???? I told the young man that I was just told by someone over the phone to come in and order. I told him the story and to ask his manager if they could take one more order and that I didn't care how long it took, I just needed the food. He went in the back and came back and said "she said no because we don't know how backed up we are." You didn't know that 10 minutes ago?! Why the hell was I told less that 10 minutes ago to come in??? I get back to the car empty handed and hungry with a disappointed husband. I've read other reviews about the poor service. I wish I had Yelped before wasting my time. The food is already average and the service is trash. Don't go there. Tried this place for the first time as a carry out order. Honestly, the food was not great although it looks delicious on the website. I would have appreciated knowing about the $8 Covid19 Brisket Fee when I was placing my order over the phone. When I arrived there is no indication of where to go for a carry out. I've eaten at the La Grange location and ordered catering from there as well. We were excited when we heard that "Q" was coming to Oak Park and they didn't let us down. Even though the line was out the door, We ordered, were seated and served in 15 minutes. Both the brisket and burnt ends sandwiches were huge and delicious. We ordered 1 large order of fries and it fed my wife and I, we left with enough food for dinner tonight. All the sauces are great and the pricing is reasonable. We cant wait to go back. How is it possible that you are NOT ordering food at Q-BBQ right now? I knew nothing about this restaurant until a few hours ago and wandered in by chance during a visit to Oak Park (where I was born!). The location is in the middle of busy Oak Park with a great outdoor eating area and perfect interior decor of exposed red brick, rough cut timber, and Edison lights. You order at a counter and the menu on the board is straightforward but loaded with options. Since it was my first time, I went with the basics: Memphis ribs, with hush puppies and 2 sides. NOTHING disappointed me and I could tell that each and every main and side dish recipe was well-thought out and prepared perfectly. Even the sweet iced tea was right on target: not too sweet or too strong for tea. The ribs were excellent: meaty, tender, but not falling off the bone. I really appreciate that these were smoked 22 hours but were not overpowered with smokiness, something other rib places need to work on. The sweet Memphis sauce was also excellent. Some might not like how sweet it is but that's the way I like it! Two hush puppies come with every meal and they were also well-prepared. They are small but that also means they were crispy on the outside and not doughy on the inside. The mac and cheese was a surprise also. Clearly homemade and not over-sauced. The surprise here was the crumbled Cheese-Its on top. What a brilliant idea! I also loved the cole-slaw, which was diced small but not pulverized with a light and vinegary dressing that was a perfect complement to the sweet Memphis ribs. I found out only after the mean from the wait staff that this was one of several Q-BBQ locations in the Chicago area and the Oak Park location had only opened a week ago. They also pointed out that Q-BBQ won the 2015 Chicago RibFest. So, good luck for me as I got to enjoy some of the best barbecue I've ever eaten. And great luck for Oak Park, which just got a remarkable new restaurant. read more

Spent $13 for mac n cheese with cheezit crumbles with overwhelming cheese sauce and the slice turkey was not even cooked just warm. I have never ordered from a bbq restaurant that did not tell you there would be no bbq sauce on any of the meat. There was no option to order any sauce anywhere on the menu. I just wasted $35 for a delivery of plain chicken and plain brisket and plain pulled pork. The ribs did have sauce, miraculously, as one might expect. So this past week my son graduated from middle school and I told him I'd take him wherever he wanted to eat on Saturday. He chose barbecue and I recommended Q-BBQ based on what a friend told me. We get there, order our food, sit down and the server brings us our meal. Up to this point everything was good we assumed. While we're eating my friend spots a huge cockroach at the edge of the table. We stop eating and I call over the server to see. He brings over the entire staff and they are unable to catch the cockroach. It ruined our evening needless to say. I won't be going back or recommending this place. read more

A solid but not exceptional new bbq joint. It has the clean appearance of Smoque but no of the flavor. While some things were great. The fries had good seasonings and the burnt ends were the star. The other 2 sliders I ate left much to be desired. The pulled chicken was good but overshadowed by the sweet sauce (came on it! Next time I will order it without.) the pulled pork was very ordinary. That is at best 33% success (no on goes to a place only for fries). Not bad but very underwhelming. I will return to give the burnt ends a real tasting. read more

My husband and I placed an order for pick up because the restaurant is too crowded. My only guess is because it's new in town. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich q-style and my husband ordered the burnt brisket plate. Both were very underwhelming! The chicken sandwich was dry before I added the spicy bbq sauce. My husband's briskets were chewy. His side of mash potatoes and gravy were okay. My macaroni and cheese was blah and tasted old. I'm so, so, so happy to have Q in the neighborhood! I love a Texas-style bbq joint, and this is modeled like my most favorite BBQ place in the whole world: Rudy's in Corpus Christi, where you order and then sit, and a whole wall of condiments and fixin's and a wash sink right in the diniging room. But can I tell you my most favorite thing about Q?? They actually smoke their brisket for as long as it is supposed to be smoked!!!!! Brisket is a tough cut of meat, and can only get tender when it is cooked low and slow. There's a bbq joint in the area that people RAAAAVE about (rhymes with Smiggyback) and that place disappoints me to no end, due to the terribly tough, awfully undercooked brisket. Q does brisket right!!!! Everything on the menu is solid, with only two low points coming to mind: 1. The pulled pork had more fatty bits than actual meat. That was pretty disappointing. I was tasked to bring ribs to my family Christmas get together for the main course. Being that it was The day of Christmas eve, I called ahead to make sure the place had ribs, and they were not sold out already. I know rib joints can sell out quickly, as they only do batches. I called around 1pm when the ribs came off the smoker. I was told they just finished, and the person on the phone even had to change the menu online to show they had ribs. As soon as she did that, I ordered two slabs and paid for them, online, to pick up at 430pm. Plenty of time for them to hold the ribs for me. I know the ribs sit in a warmer, so they should have been put to the side. When I arrived at 4:27pm, they told me they only had one slab, and they were not sure how they didn't have my full order. Everyone working just didn't know how they did not have my order. Two different people had no idea how it happened. They did offer me something else in place of the lost ribs, but there was nothing else left except chicken. I am pretty unhappy, and not sure why I ordered and paid ahead just to have them sell part of my order. I was really excited to share these ribs with my family, and this experience makes me never want to come to this establishment again. I will give them credit for giving me my money for the lost ribs, but it still didn't help my situation. I was short the food that I had planned for. It really sucks, because The ribs are actually good, and I am down to support the local business. I will be taking my business to city bbq from here on out. read more

Really bummed about this place. When it's good it's good, but lately the service and quality of the food has been really disappointing. The last two times we ordered my kids found bones in their pulled chicken sandwiches. We ordered online for pick-up tonight and a chunk of our order was missing...I had to drive all the way back and get it. I understand mistakes happen, I truly do, but I was surprised that the cashier had no apology or really anything to say about it, despite the 20% tip I had given when I ordered. This is minor, but they used to give hushpuppies with the sandwiches (they did last week) but tonight they didn't. Kids were disappointed. They also used to pack bbq sauce for you when you ordered online, but the last two times they told me I should I get it myself when picking up the food. I'm a barbecue snob (from KC: Arthur Bryant's, Sneads, Gates!!), so many cannot hope to know where I'm coming from. This place is good (very good if I try to forget real, KC barbecue). Even if I remember KC, this place can satisfy the occasional yen; but the meat is not really smoked, not really really. The burnt ends are not real burnt ends (see Arthur Bryant's above), although they are still quite tasty. Everything else is terrific as far as I'm concerned. The sauces are excellent (although I'm not a sauce-snob). What is five-star for me is their new (temporary?!) taco item. The burnt end tacos are incredible (their mediocre pedigree as barbecue is pretty irrelevant here). The combination of spices and special sauce with this high-quality meat is superb. read more

Pretty good, but I have a couple of suggestions... tone down the cumin on the rub, it definitely overpowers whatever else is in there, and overpowers the smoke, too. Second, serve your meat dry, unsauced. I know you're proud of your sauces, and they're good (though I'd really like to see a mustard-based sauce offering), but the meat can't properly be judged unless it's dry, and I'm the type of BBQ lover who likes to try it with and without a variety of sauces. read more
