Been wanting to coming here for a while. I have heard a lot of good things about Coleman's and I gotta say, I'm not sure why I waited this long to try it. I called the order in and didn't have to wait much when I picked it up. They said it would be about 1 hour wait for links, so I just ordered to Wing & Tip orders. The wings were fried perfectly and the rib tips were tasty. Obviously what makes the taste food is properly good bbq and the sauce. The mild sauce here is really good. Definitely one of the best in the city and competes with the places in the south side. The tips were also good. They were cooked properly and very tender. The wings and tips are placed on top of fries and then topped with the mild sauce. The dish itself is well priced but also small in size as well. But it's still a very filling dish, you just won't have any leftovers for later. I'll definitely be returning. read more

I normally love their food but the past 2 visits have not been great I ordered a wing and tip on last Thursday mainly bone hardly any meat and on yesterday I ordered a cheeseburger became nauseous and stomach was cramped up I don't know what happened so was not a good experience so I'm gonna have to lay off for a while don't know if burger was bad or the mayo on it. Coleman's BBQ is the real deal for BBQ. I've moved from Oak Park to the South Burbs. I do NOT care. I will STILL make a trip to Colemans to get my BBQ fix. For me it's the sauce that makes the difference. The rib tips are consistently tender. I'm a musician and used to play at a church a block away from Colemans(Christ T.) . I decided to go to Coleman's Ribs, Because I work the holiday weekend and I have family coming in and I don't have time to cook, so I ordered Two full slab of ribs, 11 piece chicken wings and an order of hot links.. I get home, I said let me try some of the ribs, the ribs were dried out, hard to chew, and really had no flavor. It seem like they boiled The ribs put it on the grill for about 15 minutes and threw some barbecue sauce on it. The chicken was OK but the hot links were bland and had no flavor.. I called the restaurant and told them my concerns and she did offer to cook me another order, but I refused due to the fact that the same cook was there. Excellent service they listen to you they make sure they hear you when you order ( some customers can get a little loud ). You get good portions, the food taste great. It's nice and clean inside with a great atmosphere . The only down side is that some customers tend to get loud. read more

So this was my first time going here and it was mainly due to the fact that Wileys on Madison is closed but anyway I get inside and the entire staff has attitudes. I'm ordering and asked for a small combo the guy taking my order asked me "do we have that on the menu" very sarcastically. I am a South Sider who recently re-located to N. West Side not too far from Coleman's. I am not familiar with any eatery on the West Side. I really wanted some rib tips but have only eaten I-57 for the past 10 years. Although I knew I wouldn't find a place better than I-57, I asked a few W. Side residents for recommendations. I was told Mary's, Daisy's, and Coleman's. So I took to Yelp. I couldn't even find a Daisy on Yelp. After reading the reviews, I choose Coleman's. However, they were closed on Sunday's. I called on Monday, July 3rd, after I left my office in Oakbrook. The 1st time they didn't answer the phone. I don't understand how you run a business and don't answer the phone. But anyways I digress. The 2nd time a guy answered and took my order (Large Tips & Small Hot Link) and told me 15 minutes. Per the reviews, they recommend you order ahead of time...so I did. It took me 30 minutes to get there. I arrived and there were 5 ppl ahead of me. The place was pretty much clean and the workers were pleasant and didn't have an attitude. By the time I got to the counter (5 min), my order was ready. My drive home was 10 min and my food was still warm. The food was ok but no real complaints and it didn't knock my socks off. I will say there was no major fat. The sauce was mediocre. Mind you I am comparing to I-57 ribs here. Will I go back...Yes after I have tried Mary's. I should have known it wasn't amazing because they sell way too much stuff to be a rib joint. A few weeks back, me and my boyfriend were at Ben's BBQ on North Avenue and another customer suggested we also give Coleman's a try. Tonight we did just that. We'll be back at Ben's next time. Coleman's is a TINY place and there were about 20 people packed int he shop, all waiting on food. And all crabbing about how long it takes. And it does take a long time. We wanted to have ribs but they didn't have any. How does a BBQ place which has been in business forever, run out of ribs? I mean, the sign says "Ribs and Tips" but they don't have ribs. Christ, how hard it is to have ribs when that is what you sell? We ended up ordering Rib Tips and Chicken Wings, or "tips & wings". We ordered fries well done, no BBQ sauce on the fries, but sauce on the tips and wings. An order of coleslaw, as there is a big sign suggesting we try the new slaw. Okee dokee, I'll do that. We also ordered extra BBQ sauce on the side, which we were charged for. Wait half and hour for the food, the entire time, the lobby is filling up faster than you can imagine. And people keep coming in trying to pick up orders. And some of the people are getting angry because they called orders in and "why call it in if I have to wait?". We get back to his place (the boyfriend) and sit down to dinner. Skimpy portions, fries barely cooked so we tossed them in the bin. NO extra BBQ sauce. Cole slaw tasted like MILDEW. So disgusting!!! One bite and I almost lost it. I mean how effing hard is it to serve fresh coleslaw? Rib tips had great flavor, but meat was really crappy quality. Nice job smoking, good sauce but really heavy vinegar (I choked a few times). But that meat was real crap. And the wings were dry and overcooked but greazy, and didn't have any sauce on them. If you're too busy to get my order right, you must not want my biz. Next time, we'll know better and go back to Ben's.
