Bibimbap with Beef Bulgogi and I even added more gochujang than what's seen.

First of all, I've been hoping for a Korean restaurant in Oak Park for over 10 years and especially one that won't disappoint, like a lot of the local Asian restaurants. Seoul Ave is SO clean, fresh, quality, delicious and very classic to its origins. The food was truly amazing and very tasty. Service was great and about a month into opening so be mindful of possible growing pains. Ambiance is lovely too with simple setting and beautiful artwork. We especially enjoyed the kimchi mandu, kimchi, bibimbap with beef bulgogi, gochujang sauce, beef bulgogi with vegetables, cocktail selection, spinach was cooked and flavored with perfection and even the kids fries were notably delicious. Can't wait to go again!! So excited to have this place in town and really hope it's a lasting success!!!!

    Bibimbap with spicy tofu!

Back again. Delicious. Trying new soju flavors (had tried green grape, dark cherry and lychee today). Happiness!

The food is AMAZING! New spot in OP. I've been waiting for a Korean spot within a 5 mile radius of my home and it finally happened. The server was very knowledgeable about the food and the table outside are a bonus !

Like another reviewer mentioned, this was cooked and prepared (Mongolian style) in the kitchen. It came out on a sizzling skillet. It tasted delicious. The meat was really tender and juicy, but there were a couple of pieces with bone-in which I didn't really care for. I thought the side-dishes were really good. I completely finished the kimchi and pickled cucumbers. So good. I almost forgot about the miso soup. It was pretty standard (which is good) and hit the spot on a wintery day. Unexpectedly, for dessert, the server brought out a Haagan Daas ice-cream bar lol. I wasn't sure if this was normal or if it was just because I'm handsome? (found out later they do this for everyone... lol). I didn't really have room b/c I was full from the main dish and sides but ate it anyways (why not?). Overall I had a delicious meal. I can't remember the pricing off the top of my head, but I would say that it's reasonably priced. Oh, they also serve alcohol here too so if your looking for a spot for a group of people, that is an option. I personally had a large Cass to wash down my meal. Daebak!

We were honestly shocked because we thought it was supposed to feed up to 2 people, but barely could fill up 1 person. In addition, the soybean paste stew was pretty bland... I am not sure if i'm just biased because I am korean and had so many, but it tasted like water. I was also shocked that they charge for a refill on salad and banchan as this is the first time I had ever been charged. This place was definitely also pretty pricy, we paid about 150 for 2 people (including tip & tax) The reason why I am still giving the place 4 stars because the service was really good (our server was super sweet and accommodating) and the meat quality was pretty solid. The marinade on the pork was delicious and the meat was tender. The restaurant also had a nice concept.

Considering that it's not AYCE, it raised my expectations for the quality of the meat I'm being served. The meat was above average, but it just wasn't enough to justify the asking price. The service wasn't great. We had asked prior to our meal if we would be charged extra for refilling our side dishes. We were told that they were free to refill. We were then charged for said refills at the end of the meal. The restaurant itself has a pretty cool aesthetic. It honestly reminds me of some of the places I'd been to in Korea, particularly due to the setup of the grills w/ the hanging vents, the lighting, and the general simplicity of the space.

We had Sang Gai Bi and the Heuk Sam Gyup Sal which was the pork belly. We loved them both. I personally like the beef over the pork but I would get both again. We also ordered a Yook Ke Jang, which was a spicy seasoned soup with shredded beef. It was not too salty or anything. It was just right! Lastly we ordered a marinated pork (forgot the name of it) and it was good, but I think we all preferred the non marinated meat better. Not sure if it's because we were already getting full at that time. Definitely recommend coming to this place. Charcoal bbq tastes so much better, although it can be a little harder to cook imo. ALL the small dishes were amazing...there isn't a small dish I didn't like. This is my new favorite kbbq spot!! This place is also super clean. But meat just tastes better bbq'd on charcoal, y'na mean? It honestly had been a decade and a half since I went to a proper charcoal KBBQ, so this was super exciting for me. The place had an old facade that was reminiscent of the "old days" for me. Not to say it was run down or anything, but everything from the floorplan to the old tables with charcoal pit installed tables reminded me of the KBBQ era of the 90's and beyond. Loved it! My family went inside way past lunch hour, so the place had cleared out and owners seemed to have been having lunch. The two gentlemen eho greeted us gave out father and son energy, but I couldn't be sure. There was a life sized photo of the oldtimer in a marathon getup hanging on one side of the shop entrance, which he explained was taken a decade ago. I could tell he would have been around my father's age, but seemed super healthy. A pleasant man for sure! It may not necesaarily be a good thing for owners, but I love it when there aren't too many patrons around, because it means that I'll get all the attention I need from them, when I need. It was certainly the case here. They were super attentive when we needed something. To be fair, we knew exactly what we wanted, so it wasn't like we needed to call them every 5 minutes, but it certainly was easy to get their attention when I needed another bottle of beer. :-D My family of three order two servings of marinated galbi, contemplating on whether or not to order my wife's favorite pork belly. In the end, we were too full and were glad we stopped with only two servings. We'll just have to come back to try other meat later. This is ALWAYS a dilemma for my family. All three of us each have our favorites, but none of us can eat a whole serving. We usually end up going with my daughter's favorite every time, unless my wife and I are out by ourselves, which these days is not as often as I'd like. We'll just have to wait a couple more years for her to graduate.. Galbi (short ribs) was GREAT! Not much else to say about it, other than the fact that any meat will taste better when grilled on charcoal. With so many other KBBQs around town with more "hip" and "modern" atmosphere, I don't know how well New Seoul is doing these days, but I certainly hope they do enough business to continue to be around. More and more Korean restaurants are moving away from their traditional way of doing things in order to cater to American audiences. They may not be huge changes, but these subtle changes make people like me and my wife a bit sad because it eats away a little bit of our nostalgia each time we experience some. I hate to sound like an old man about it, but I guess it falls to people like myself to continue to support more of the traditional places like these over the young ones. Anyway, based on just the marinated galbi my family had, I must give them 5 stars!

With that said, here are things people should know: - Chinese owner who said she had Korean chef but the person cooking our food was a Chinese lady. Not sure if there is a Korean chef but honestly and as other reviews have said, the food is bland and didn't seem like a Korean cooked the banchan nor the food, see my next comment below. - As soon as I tasted my jajangmyun, I knew it was from a package because I have had it before! That's why people complain about the portions, it's because the jajangmyun that I got came from a store bought package. I also saw packets of store bought nengmyun broth in the fridge near the register. - as a Korean foodie, if you look at the menu, they sell everything! But Korean restaurants can't sell everything because a lot of Korean food including the broth based dishes require a lot of prep and boiling for hours. At 5:00pm on a Saturday, we were the only party there so it was a pretty quiet outing. I hope this was an anomaly, because the restaurant definitely deserves much more foot traffic. There seemed to be quite a few to-go orders, though. We were brought an array of complimentary banchan, which definitely set the meal up for success! They were all delicious, but my favorite had to be the pickled cucumbers/radish. For the main, I opted for the chicken bulgogi. It had a nice amount of heat and lasted me for three meals. The flavor was good but some of the chicken was a touch dry. I did like the variety of vegetables. The rice was pretty standard and a welcome supplement to the spice. We had a good experience overall and I would definitely return to try more of the menu!

Then I saw the KBBQ menu and all bets were off. I immediately pivoted and ordered the chef's tasting set, the Diweji, featuring pork jowl, pork collar, and pork belly, complete with an assortment of banchan. Zero regrets. And here's the part that should tell you everything you need to know: I am a certified radish hater. I avoid it whenever possible. Yet somehow, I found myself repeatedly reaching for the radish banchan and asking for more. Even the soup - which also featured radish - was absolutely delicious. If Perilla can convert someone who actively dislikes radish into a fan for one meal, that's saying something. The soju was exactly what I wanted with Korean barbecue: crisp, clean, and refreshing. I appreciate that it was neutral rather than overly sweet. The flavored, sweeter versions aren't really my thing unless the food is setting my mouth on fire. Speaking of spice, the wings were good: juicy, well-executed, and satisfying but I kept wishing they packed a little more heat. They weren't spicy at all, and a bigger kick would have taken them from very good to unforgettable. As for the meats, the pork jowl was gloriously rich and fatty, exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The pork collar ended up being my favorite: flavorful, tender, and with just the right balance of meat and fat. The pork belly was comforting and familiar - the classic KBBQ staple done well, with beautifully rendered edges and that indulgent quality that makes it a crowd-pleaser for a reason. The set also came with potatoes that were unexpectedly delicious. My only complaint? It was far too much food for one person. The service deserves its own mention. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The entire meal was delivered with efficiency and a smile, making a solo diner feel completely comfortable lingering and enjoying the experience.
