I love the food their bibimbap, mandu and sundubu. Food is healthy unlike fast food. Huge servings too. Staff ad owner are very friendly.

We had taken a break from Han Mi Jeong, but recently went back for dinner. They provide regular table service now and it's better than it has been in the past. They are still BYOB. We got our usual cheese pancake, bulgogi and bibimbap with chicken. It is so surprising how good the cheese pancake is and our toddler loved it! Everything was delicious and the bulgogi was our favorite. Next time I might consider swapping out the bibimbap for something else, like the japchae. We also had a full meal of leftovers, making the slightly pricey meal, a complete steal, We'll definitely be coming back again! read more

Public Service Announcement: I'm not one to leave bad reviews because I've been in the food industry and it's really tough. But I'm a firm believer in honesty. With that said, here are things people should know: - Chinese owner who said she had Korean chef but the person cooking our food was a Chinese lady. Not sure if there is a Korean chef but honestly and as other reviews have said, the food is bland and didn't seem like a Korean cooked the banchan nor the food, see my next comment below. - As soon as I tasted my jajangmyun, I knew it was from a package because I have had it before! That's why people complain about the portions, it's because the jajangmyun that I got came from a store bought package. I also saw packets of store bought nengmyun broth in the fridge near the register. - as a Korean foodie, if you look at the menu, they sell everything! But Korean restaurants can't sell everything because a lot of Korean food including the broth based dishes require a lot of prep and boiling for hours. That's why you don't see Korean restaurants with 50 different items like this place does. read more

This is a solid spot to satisfy a craving for Korean food! The prices are pretty reasonable and the portions are generous. At 5:00pm on a Saturday, we were the only party there so it was a pretty quiet outing. I hope this was an anomaly, because the restaurant definitely deserves much more foot traffic. There seemed to be quite a few to-go orders, though. We were brought an array of complimentary banchan, which definitely set the meal up for success! They were all delicious, but my favorite had to be the pickled cucumbers/radish. For the main, I opted for the chicken bulgogi. It had a nice amount of heat and lasted me for three meals. The flavor was good but some of the chicken was a touch dry. I did like the variety of vegetables. The rice was pretty standard and a welcome supplement to the spice. Updating my review based on a Uber Eats delivery of rabokki. I suddenly had a craving for ddukbokki/rabokki, so I ordered one using Uber Eats. Delivery was fast, food was hot, and most importantly, it was delicious! Totally hit the spot. And not too too spicy but manageable. I've been on a budae jjigae craving recently, and all I can think of when I think of what I want to eat... it's budae jjigae. My friend recommended this place, so I came to try it out! Sadly, we were the only party dining for a while on a Saturday night right before the Chicago marathon. The auntie that served us was so nice! I had the... surprise! Budae jjigae. But this time I felt fancy and added cheese to it. Note to future self: don't feel fancy next time. The cheese took up too much of the flavor. This bowl was the most generous bowl I've ever seen at a Korean restaurant - probably double the size of the usual ones! Sooo generous with every meat, the ramen, and the broth. We ordered from Han Mi Jeong via uber eats, and the food arrived relatively quickly. We ordered bulgogi, kimchi pancakes, and army stew. We'd never had army stew before and weren't sure how spicy it was going to be, but it was just a pleasant warming broth with lots of fun ingredients mixed in. Overall it was good for the price, but the kimchi pancakes was a little underwhelming. Even when we put it in a pan to crisp it up it was still soggy. read more

The service was a little off putting since they usually give free side dishes to every customer; however, they forgot ours. We asked for the side dishes, and she said she didn't bring them to us since we barely ate them last time. One of the few Korean restaurants I could find that serves Jjajangmyeon. I haven't tried others yet, but the Jjajangmyeon here was pretty decent. It was a bit pricey, but quality was good- bouncy/chewy noodles, hard-boiled egg, and Daikon radish. They had other great staples like Japchae, Kimchi Fried Rice, and Army Stew. I really liked their Japchae, as the noodles were bouncy and better ingredients like wood ear mushrooms. Even though Army Stew, Jjajangmyeon, and Kimchi Fried Rice were flavorful, they were a tad salty. Especially the Army Stew, I thought the spam overpowered it. Sh*it's expensive here. How is a roll of kimbap (spam, mind you) $14? And a bowl of basic@ss jajangmyeon with barely any meat (not even the seafood version) $18? Besides price point, the food here is definitely watered-down Korean (it's Chinese-owned) which is so unfortunate because it's one of the only Korean food places in Bridgeport. The jjampong tastes like they used an instant soup mix; the jajangmyeon has this weird sweetness to it; and all the side dishes taste so flavorless and as if they've been left out in open containers before being served. Even if you get cravings, you're better off making a trip to the Asian grocery store to get the ingredients and learning to make the dishes yourself at home. read more

I had been eyeing their jeongol (hot pot) for a bit so we went on a windy, almost-spring day. We ordered the gamjatang jeongol (pork bones, potato, and veggies), dukbokki, and japchae (came w beef). I was split with some in my party about the taste of the pork and would like to try a diff jeongol next time. Prices are a little more expensive for Korean food in the neighborhood. I travel to Chicago for work a lot and it's so shocking that a major city doesn't have good Korean food. This is the 4th or 5th spot I've had that was so disappointing and all I'm ordering is kimchi jigae which is so basic. Note: I ordered take out. I am so excited that there's finally a Korean restaurant in Bridgeport! Here's what I ordered: kalguksu with clams: the noodles were chewy so it had a good bite to it. The broth was alright, though I didn't really taste the clam flavor. Galbi tang: this was probably my favorite. However, the broth was a bit too oily from the beef fat so it had a lingering oily taste. There were vermicelli noodles, daikon, and short ribs in the soup. Jokbal: the pork trotters here was a bit dry and we had a lot of fatty pieces. I wanted more meaty pieces and it needed more flavor. It came with lettuce, garlic, daikon radish, jalapeños, and spicy sauce. Dukbokki: the chewy rice cakes came with fish cakes marinated in a spicy sauce. The service was fine however the server only came by once to fill our tea and we needed to quench our thirst from the spicy food. Overall the food here wasn't bad since they just recently opened. Rarely write reviews these days however our visit to HMJ felt like the right time to do so... We ordered the Kalbi ($39), Tangsooyook ($19), and Tteokbokki ($11) and honestly the most disappointing was the kalbi. Pictured on the mobile menu (which is what we have to use when ordering for dine-in) was grilled beef short ribs with good char which was the standard and what we all expect with an order of kalbi. What we got however was gritty, almost boiled(?), chewy, thick cuts of beef short rib that also had a sour/vinegar taste to it. I wish I was over exaggerating but seriously it was off putting first visually, then flavor-wise it was sour and just not what you expect a korean style kalbi to be, especially for the price. The sweet and sour pork was not bad and same with the rice cakes which happened to be the best thing we had lol, however again the price felt a bit high for what it really was. Until things change quality wise, I seriously would stay away from any of their "grilled meats" or anything like that. Also the banchan (side dishes) was nothing spectacular or memorable.. It's disappointing that it's hard to find solid Korean food in the Bridgeport/Chinatown area. Would give it a 3/10 or 1.5/5 if we could do half stars! TLDR: - Overpriced for what it is - Kalbi seriously has something wrong with it (boiled/gritty/sour/chewy/thick cuts and not charred/slightly sweet/thin LA style cuts that you normally expect) and also for $39... - Side dishes are ok, definitely doesn't feel homemade - Service was good, staff was nice, and clean ambiance! read more

Stopped in since our favorite a couple streets down closed. We like to try new restaurants in the area. We were greeted right away. They do have a menu but do not take verbal orders. You have to scan the QR and order on-line. This took away from the dining experience for us. On my order - in the chef notes I typed "no onions". My gut was to restate this to the young lady bringing out food. She stated that she would confirm with the chef. Sure enough there were onions in the fried rice. We brought it to their attention. She took back to the chef and came back and stated, it doesn't have onions only green onions. We politely stated we did not want ANY type of onion. They were nice enough to correct the order. The beef bibimpap is very salty, I did not send this back, I mixed it with rice to cut down on the saltiness. I recommend you tell them to go easy on the salt. read more

I have a mixed feeling about this place, because my dine in experience and take out experience is very different. First of all, let me start by saying that the food in the place is pretty amazing. I'm always looking for a tasty Korean restaurant in the south loop Chinatown area, and this is the only place that's delicious and very reasonably priced. Love their cold Korean spicy noodles! I always get it, their Korean seafood pan cake and dumplings are really great too! My take out experience: I usually do take out here because the restaurant it self is not that fancy, I enjoy the food better at home. When I order delivery, the order is usually correct. However, a few times now when I do pick up, the food is not even started when I arrive at the recommend time frame. They claim the didn't receive it, so I'm not sure if it's a system error or what. But it has been a few times like this now. My dine in experience: I took my mom here for mother day because she loves Korea food. The service was great and food was amazing. Overall I really like this place, they are pretty new so maybe they need to figure a few kinks out. read more

It's a newly opened Korean restaurant next to my home, we checked it out Wednesday night, it was my friend's birthday. The food is amazing, we ordered kalbi, grilled pork belly, sweet sour pork and three other dishes. They are all tasty and not Americanized korean food. Came for lunch where it was relatively quiet, sans the K-pop blasted on the speakers. We ordered jjajangmyun 짜장면 (black bean paste noodles), tangsooyook 탕수육 (sweet and sour pork), and haemuljungol 해물전골 (seafood hot pot). The side dishes were nice and overall legit, although broccoli is kinda weird. Still, it gave me hope for the main dishes. The tansooyook had too much of a sharp sourness. They definitely put too much vinegar, because it stings the nose and makes me cough. If they'd tone it down, it'd be better. The pieces are also kind of big, like bacon strips instead of chicken fingers, but whatever. Also, what's up with the shredded carrots and bell peppers? The seafood hot pot was okay. It had a good amount of crab and shrimp. I thought the tofu could've been the softer variety. The jjajangmyun is the main travesty. It came in a giant bowl with cucumber, pickled radish, pork and potato pieces, and a hard boiled egg on top. Egg with jjajangmyun is weird to me, but okay. Then I see the noodles. Why are they so thin? Well this isn't a good sign. And indeed, it wasn't. The noodles did not help to impart the flavor of the sauce (which was okay) at all. Sorry but what the *heck* happened with the noodles? They aren't thick enough, stick together worse than Sour Punch candy straws, and ruined the dish. Seriously, I think they used spaghetti noodles. At $19 and the amount of time they spent, I was ready to expect something really good but what a fumble. If this is how they prep this, they'd be better off not offering it. It's a damn struggle to find a half-decent jjajangmyun in this country, but this one is really down there. With the prices of their offerings, I was really hoping for something I could count on as a feel good staple. But the quality doesn't command anywhere near the amount they're asking for. The portion sizes are big, yes, but I'd rather have a smaller amount with better taste. Better luck next time. read more

Tangsuyuk and galbi was decent. Not delicious but not awful. It's ok. Gamjatang is......awful. Yes, it's edible as food but it's NOT a gamjatang. It tastes nothing like Gamjatang at all! Gamjatangs are more red/orange in color. Their gamjatang looks more like seaweed soup, definitely more white and clear in color. Gamjatangs are supposed to be spicy and flavorful with lots of depth. This was absolutely bland, mild and flat in taste. This place may serve authentic dishes but "authentic" taste is very questionable. I moved here from Maryland where you'll find several good and delicious Korean spots in VA which is a drive away but extremely disappointed honestly in Chicago's "authentic" Korean restaurants. I miss Korean food and hoping I can find just one decent place. So sad. read more

Absolutely wonderful. The Budae Hotpot (pictured) was simply amazing. The broth was rich and delicious, the bulgogi was tasty, and the vegetables and mushrooms were fresh and delicious. The staff was very helpful and genuinely interested to make sure we enjoyed our meal. And the portion size was such that we (2) stuffed ourselves and have enough leftovers for another entire dinner.
