I loved this place. So much. Each bit of food was so far beyond delicious that I can't describe it. Something you'd like in your life. I'm not able to eat the heat that these folks provided, but I've been with friends who are enabled that way, and they loved their chicken the way I loved it. They've got the groove! I especially love the onion rings. They're not hot, but they're cut fresh from sweet onions and done with a black peppery breading that's as good as anything I've ever had. I mourn the fact that this business seems to have died. And I grieve for the owner, who is maybe in denial? Because in the third week of the closure, there's still not a sign on the front window telling us what's going on. I get that denial, but (my friend!) it only does your brand worse harm. Today, when I showed up, a guy from the old car business where the food truck is located came out to tell me that there's been no one there for weeks. Wow... HUGE Tenders (like half a large chicken breast half for each tender) - Three tenders per order. I ordered the Mild Spice, which is basically medium on their spice list (#3 out of 6) and it was pretty close to my limit... I can only imagine what their # 6 is like (OUCH!) Had to update, they've been closed for a bit and finally opened back up this week? Anyway, my boyfriend and I got chicken yesterday, however we completely forgot neither $12-$13 item comes with fries! Let me give you a rundown of the menu, $12.75 for the 3 tenders, usually jumbo but yesterday they definitely weren't- and the sandwich is $13.50. The tenders are usually huge but yesterday they were regular size I guess. The fries are $5 each, and pretty much any side starts at $5 here. Honestly the food yesterday was kinda mediocre, the chicken wasn't breaded well and was falling off the chicken, which tasted bland without the breading and seasoning, the bread it comes with was super soggy, and the last piece of bread anyway lol. The sandwich was really disapponting, the chicken wasn't seasoned well at all. Each food item only came with literally 1 pickle which was odd. Also we were waiting for the food and I don't know if he ever even called our name but when my bf went to check on it, it had already been done and sitting there? Obviously we don't need to be chased down but if you're not busy and we're literally behind the stand, you could at least try to mention something? We both thought that was weird too, the service just kinda seemed off today, the vibes weren't that great. Overall probably not returning, almost $30 and we didn't feel the chicken was the quality it typically is, and we've been here multiple times before. Typically we spend closer to $40 though, for each entree to have the completed side as a meal, and honestly for 2 people and in this rising economy, that's too steep to chance it not being that good. This is my favorite place to eat in Eugene. The chicken is masterfully seasoned and fried. And the spice level is steep but fair. Typically I can go to most places that offer spicy food and sometimes it might hit that spark that happens, even Thai food is often tame. This is different. I've had to roll back from ordering the XX-hot to just X-hot because it would gas me out. I love the small menu, I love the location, and I love the spice. Been a few times now, and it's always so good. The extra mild is nice if you don't want the oil soak. It still has some tasty spices with a tiny bit of heat. The mild adds the oil soak, which is also good. I like the bit, but the spice builds pretty fast, and can be a bit much. I like spicy, but they don't mess around here. I want to try the extra hot and xxhot, but those will be for days I need a good fry lol Really though, excellent chicken, the breading is nice and crispy, good portion size for the price, and I even like their ranch (which I'm picky about). Just arrived at the airport and decided to go get some lunch. My first thing I do upon arriving in a new city is to check yelp. One of the restaurants in the area was this Nashville hot chicken establishment which I decided to try out. I didn't catch his name, but the owner was super friendly and told me that he formerly ran a Nashville hot chicken restaurant in the Nashville area. I've been wanting to try this place for a while abd finally checked it out today. Got it Togo and it traveled for about 30 minutes before I was able to enjoy. It traveled incredibly well, I now need to come back and eat fresh! I got got the hot Chicken sandwich which he described as cayenne and habanero. Chicken was thigh meat. Sandwich had great flavor and the perfect amount of heat. Homemade potato salad was a nice contrast in flavor and heat killer when needed. read more

Friendly guy, GREAT FOOD!!!!! Ordered the tenders which are huge pieces of chicken cooked perfectly!!! Used the chipotle ranch dipping sauce and ordered my chicken mild which was perfect heat for me! My husband had the hot wings and loved them!!!! I ate one tender and was stuffed. The potato salad and coleslaw were like my mom use to make. Loved it! We'd been trying to get here for awhile now, but every time we drove by it seemed like they'd be closed and it wasn't too consistent to know the hours. I did try to reach out to ask but didn't receive a response. However, I am not going to mark them down for that, this is a local small company that seems like they're far too busy making amazing chicken to respond to my small request. Not going to complain because the food was totally worth it. The small menu is refreshing, you don't have to think too hard about what to pick. We tried the tenders in mild and sandwich in hot (weird there isn't a medium between those two?). My husband said the mild was plenty spicy and I felt that the hot was just right, I was sweating just the right amount. And I liked that it was a dry rub, not a sauce. The only issue with the sandwich is that it just ended up falling apart, I just ended up eating the chicken and slaw on its own. The curly fries are also delicious, if anything they were just slightly over-salted. Definitely coming back for some of this again, but I'll just get the tenders and forgo the bun! To others that complained about waiting "outside in the cold" - this is a food truck. It is winter in Oregon. You're going to be waiting. Outside in the cold, if you choose. Some of the best Nashville Hot Chicken I have had. This place is a hut in a junker car lot, next to a food truck serving Mexican food. No inside dining and minimal outside seating. Not much selection on the menu, but the chicken is awesome! I went for chicken and waffles, but they were out of waffles. I had the chicken tenders. The tenders were big and juicy. There are 5 levels of spice and I went for "hot", in the middle. Plenty spicy. but not overpowering. We did not get sides, but they looked really good. My son is at the U of Oregon. Tenders were huge and tasty (Southern style for the kiddo). Medium was warm, too much for the wifey, but very flavorful. Hot was warm with a good tang and some lingering heat. Also good. Ok so I lived just outside Nashville not to long ago. So I have pretty high hot chicken expectations. This place is one of the better I have found out this way on the left coast. The chicken was cooked well and the breading was good, the spices where not evenly spread across the chicken so made for hot spots and not a even heat. This place was fantastic. Don't let the "small shed in a parking lot" vibe concern you. The owner makes all the food on the spot, fried and delicious. We had hot chicken sandwiches, and I tried the baked beans. Full disclosure, I don't like baked beans, but I find the quality is pretty indicative of the quality off bbq. Beans were amazing. Secret ingredient is mustard, I finally decided, and they were great. Chicken was fried well, and if you ever try to fry thighs, you know getting it right all the way through is tough. Ended up getting this to go and had to walk for about half an hour with my chicken sandwich and fries before getting back to where I was staying so the fact that it was still definitely warm meant that it had to have come out blisteringly heat hot. It took a bit of time to get the food since the guy had a full board but he warned me in advance (instead of the places that just take your money then make you wait forever) then beat his estimate for how long it would be so points there. As for the chicken, well, it's huge (much larger than the roll), the slaw is amazing, and it doesn't mess around for heat level. I ended up getting x-hot; when I asked how it compared to, say, the Indian hot or Thai hot I get when I go to those places he said it was not comparable since it's a different kind of heat but I wish he'd just said "it will still melt your face" since it will. Good. Spicy. Chicken. No outdoor seating yet but he says he plans to add some when the weather is reliably nice. No worries. We just brought it back to our hotel. It held up to bring transported for about 10-15 min before dee were able to dig in. Really good chicken. Didn't try a lot of the sides, but the curly fries were good too. Be aware that even the 'mild' is spicy enough to make your nose run (he warned us of this and you can get no spice if you prefer) but it was the perfect heat level for me. I am a big fan of Nashville hot chicken. One of my favorites is howling ray's in LA. I've been hearing some good things about this place so decided to check it out. Pyre is legit.... Just the perfect blend of spices and heat... Howling Ray's can be a little too spicy... like snot dripping down your nose spicy... but Ryan, the owner of Pyre has it just right... enough heat to make you sweat, but not to the point where it overpowers the food... granted you have to love spicy in order to appreciate it. They do have a mild version for non-spicy people. But if you like spicy, go check it out. It really is very good. Ryan has it down... I am definitely going back for more! read more

Had wanted to try this place for awhile and after a couple of days, I spotted a time on Google noting they were open. I ordered the tenders, a slide of bleu cheese and curly fries. I got there and noticed the kind of shack they based in was is pretty rough shape. Taking a peek inside, it looked unpleasant. No air conditioning and on these hot summer days, preparing fried chicken... It must be gruesome work. Not a job I'd want. My order was offered up timely and was well prepared. The strips they use are remarkably big and quite juicy. I would pay a little extra for more sustainably raised chicken, but if you don't sweat the details, it's a fine product. There isn't much competition in Eugene, but it might be the best I've had in town. A little oily, but what fried chicken isn't. The bleu cheese was greyish and runny. I'd find something different. Not something I love to look at, let alone eat. The fries were totally passable but completely unremarkable. It was all garnished with a set of anemic, sad, pickle slices that were more for presentation than effect. I like a pickle with a nice crunch to it and these were not that. The portion sizes are large. Too large for me and fried chicken is always going to sit heavy, Pyre is no exception. Take into account. Overall: I'd come back. If you're looking for chicken tenders in Eugene, I don't know if you can do much better and you without a doubt could do a lot worse. I do hope they will continue to iterate and improve. read more
