We decided to build a pool early in the year. We are first time pool owners so the decision was not taken lightly. We did our research and asked around for referrals. I reviewed Puryear's website and I like the fact that 1) they give you ballpark price ranges and 2) they give you an overview of the process. One of our friends also recommended Puryear. We decided to have a consultation. Derek, our representative, was the best! He was very accommodating and explained all of the options. He designed a pool that maximized our yard and incorporated the features we wanted. We received a computer generated drawing of the pool from all angles. Derek provide documentation for the HOA approval and bank financing processes. We were pleasantly surprised with the cost estimate. We called Other pool companies and they were more expensive. When construction started we were nervous, but our construction manager, Guy, kept us informed every day. Anytime we had a question, Guy responded promptly. The workmanship is beautiful. The crews did a phenomenal job. We could not be more pleased with the product and the overall experience. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars, I absolutely would. We recently bought a home with a pool that was built by Puryear, so we decided to use them for our maintenance. What a mistake. From the beginning, we have been given the run around. John came out for our initial meeting and told us that our heater and salt cell were not working that he would have someone come out to diagnose the problem. He also explained to us that someone would come by once a week for pool maintenance, and we would be getting a quarterly cleaning of the filter. Well, after we were charged for the quarterly filter cleaning, we inquired about the shape of the filter and wanted to see exactly what was done. After multiple calls and multiple promises to email us the documentation, we STILL have not received a single thing. We also asked for documentation for the "diagnosis" that they did (really doubt anyone even came out to do it), and have yet to receive anything about that either. But don't worry, they made sure to charge us for it. This company has the absolute worst customer service and communication that I have ever seen. read more

Steve was patient and helpful as our plans (budget) changed. He was really a great guy to work with. He was very helpful in putting the project together by ensuring that everything that we discussed was on the contract. We can not say enough about Charlie. He was awesome. We started out worried about the huge investment...had we made the right decisions, all sorts of jitters. Charlie immediately put our worries to rest. We had total confidence that he knew what he was doing and had our best interest at heart. Fantastic customer service. We love Charlie. We only met Jordan once but he did a great job helping us understand how to use and take care of our pool. He has also been great when we had to call with questions. The only minor change I would make in the whole experience is the weekly calls I got from a very nice woman in the office. I felt like they were redundant, most likely because Charlie kept us very well informed, but none the less, I felt like those calls were pleasant, but not necessary. We will definately recommend Puryear to anyone who wants to have pool built. read more

We are very satisfied with the quality and construction of our pool but would not use them again because of lack of communication, responsiveness, planning and taking responsibility. Examples: I notified project manager a week ahead of our out of state trip in case we needed to make any decisions or plans only to be notified while I was gone that we needed to decide where to pour the pad for the pump and move the fence which had to be redone when we returned home; the electrician moved three circuits in our breaker box and did not tell us they had done so or label the breakers; two days after the electrical work our dryer didn't work so we called a repairman (which is how we found out about the moving of the circuits) and Puryear would not take any responsibility - would not cover an $82 service call even though I spent almost $60,000 on a pool; after completion of the pool, I sent a 14 page letter (very polite 2 page letter plus copies of text messages, etc) to the owner to which I received NO response. We obviously had several issues! read more

Puryear Pool built and serviced our pool. They have poor quality and high prices for their work. Their customer services needs much improvement. When we call them over and over again it can take many weeks to respond. When they serviced our pool, they let all the equipment get in really bad shape and when we would ask them to fix a problem, it could take them months to get someone to fix it after we would call and call. The biggest problem is that when they sold us the pool they suggested we put in a salt pool. Once things started going wrong, and it did not take long, they said that salt pool equipment will only last maybe five years. If you want less stress in your life then do not call Puryear pools. read more

This is a hard one for me to write. We hired Jason Satterwhite to build a custom pool that was finished in early 2008. The job was done very well with great customer service. There was an issue with the concrete where there was an over pour underneath our hot tub, which would have put the hot tub rim at about 8 - 10 feet above ground. Puryear pools went in and chipped it out and re-poured the concrete. Since then we have had them do service on the pool several times - making good suggestions to both save dollars, while still getting the work done. Have been satisfied, but not overwhelmingly so, during 2013. Now to the 1 star - The service manager recently changed from a female to a male and about that time we had an issue where one of the waterfalls failed and had to be replaced. At about the same time we also asked them to clean and seal our coping (flagstone) and the rest of the flagstone around the pool area. The work on the waterfall was completed (the masons that came out left hardened grout in the pool as well as quite a bit of soft grout). When we tried to use our remote to turn the light and the waterfalls on post completion (which worked the day before they started the work) it did not work. The person that came out to clean and seal the flagstone looked at it and could not figure out why it did not work. His comment was 'well you'll have to turn it on manually I guess'. When we looked at the work done on cleaning and noticed a whole section that still had salt/scale under the sealant. Talked to the service manager today - He was dismissive about both the cleaning and the remote. Comment on cleaning - 'we don't normally clean unless there is bird poop on the flagstone' - had we known that we would certainly have cleaned off the scale before sealing it as we now have to clean it off and re-seal it. Comment on the remote - 'I'm not sure why you think we had anything to do with your remote not working now.' - I told him - 'the remote worked the day before you worked on the system and then did not work after you worked on the system, seems logical that whatever y'all did triggered something as there was nothing else done to the pool equipment.' We will be finding another company to use in the future as Puryear takes the money for the work, but does not take responsibility when something goes wrong any longer. Had i written this review in 2008 it would have been a 5 star, but in 2013 it is a 1 star. UPDATE 11/5/2013 - Jennifer (the owner) and I have been corresponding on this situation. She has done everything in her power to rectify these issues. At the end of the day the owners of the company are invested and work hard to provide customer service. After building our new home, we elected to go with Puryear Custom Pools rather than our previous pool installer and we are so glad we did! There were some bumps in the road, but they were excellent at getting all issues resolved and we now have a beautiful backyard to show for it. The warranty department has been amazing! Between John and Jordan, they were quick to resolve any issues that we had. Granted our issues were minor, but they were resolved timely and we are extremely satisfied with the results. Puryear Pools was chosen to do our pool in 2010, after a thorough search through eight other local pool companies. The building process went smoothly, and the pool looked fantastic. We had arbors built at the same time by a Puryear contractor, and they also turned out excellent. Communication was good throughout the process and we were extremely pleased. In 2011, we experienced a long stretch of freezing weather (12 degrees for days) and the coping around the pool began to chip off once the weather improved. The owner of Puryear Pools came out and was extremely concerned since the materials were sold as "weatherproof." My first thought was "Okay, here comes trouble!!" But after talking to the coping company, Puryear came back out and replaced all of it. Problem solved. In 2012, we had Puryear come back to add a wired display controller unit inside our house. Almost immediately, we began having issues with the display---sometimes it would flicker, sometimes it wouldn't respond, sometimes it would be completely dead. When Puryear was initially unable to figure out what was wrong, they brought the manufacturer's repair people out to try to determine the issue. Even they couldn't. I was in constant contact with both the office manager at Puryear and the service manager during this time, and both were excellent to work with. They both assured me that they would figure this out and I would be happy with the result. Eventually, a Puryear service rep found the issue and it now works great. Problem solved. In late 2013, I opted to add the iPhone link to our pool system and I contacted Puryear to do this. It worked for about 24 hours and then went dead. I began to wonder if I was just jinxed. But Puryear's service team quickly found the problem, replaced the unit with a new one, and it has worked perfectly since. The point of my telling about the various pool issues is that Puryear has ALWAYS come through with service after the sale. Several neighbors used other pool builders for their pools, and I've heard nothing but complaints about service problems and these other pool companies either disappearing or not responding. I have not had that issue with Puryear. While I would certainly prefer not to have any service problems ever, real life gets in the way of that. Knowing that the company that built my pool and sold me the equipment will respond to my emails & phone calls quickly has made a huge difference. I highly recommend this company for anyone wanting to build a pool. They absolutely build a beautiful pool! But it's easy to get caught up in the sales process with pool builders--picking designs, colors, etc---so please keep in mind that whatever you build will ultimately need some type of service. And after 4 years, Puryear is still helping to make my pool experience the best possible. I couldn't ask for more. If I move and build another pool, I will go to Puryear again. We just got done with building our first pool and I could not be more pleased with it! We were a bit nervous about what to expect but Chris Brabson our designer was great about walking us through the entire process and expected time frame for completion. Chris designed an amazing pool for us and even worked with us on keeping within our budget. Our builders Guy and Kevin were awesome! We had some unexpected and unique issues when on the dig we hit an underground spring that kept the pool full of water throughout the entire process. Even with our unique issue they were able to work up a solution (without any added cost) and were able to complete the pool in the expected time frame (8 weeks). The finished product was better than expected and we couldn't be more pleased. We would highly recommend Puryear Custom Pools to anyone looking to build a pool. read more

We are so happy to be able to write this review for Puryear Custom Pools! Our pool was built by Puryear 3 years ago. Each of the crews that came through were fantastic! Competent, respectful, knowledgeable, and hardworking, sometimes staying well into the evening to get the job done. Our pool is beautiful (just as depicted in our design sketches), and an endless source of pleasure!!! I am writing this review 3 years later, because Puryear Pools just finished the repair of our pool. Soon after the completion of our pool, the ground shifted and our pool "dropped" (not uncommon with the clay ground in this area). Although our pool "dropped" it remained structurally sound, a testament to the quality of workmanship. We were told we needed to wait to make sure the ground had stopped "moving" (numerous tests were performed to ensure the integrity of the pool and plumbing). We were still able to use and enjoy our pool during this time. Once it was determined there was no more movement in the pool the restoration took place. Again every crew that came through to do this correction was amazing! The honesty and integrity shown by this company makes us glad we chose to build our pool with Puryear Custom Pools! We truly feel they went above and beyond!!!! read more

I had my pool built 3 years ago. This is the 4th pool I've had built in a home I've owned, and absolutely the worst experience. Compared to puryear, the other three were superstars. Although the pool is functional, the building process was horrible. I had to stay on my toes to be sure it was done properly because every day when I came home from work, there was another issue! Jennifer is rude and so full of pride that she can't admit when there is an error on their part. Multiple things had to be repaired prior to the completion of the project, but every time, I had to fight for it, and every time, the repair was done, they claimed it was as a concession to me... not because they did anything wrong. Believe me, they wouldn't spend one extra penny on a pool unless they had to. The issues I raised were definitely thier fault! They hired every subcontractor! I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from using puryear. There are so may pool builders out there, why take a chance? ALso, do NOT have them do your sprinkler . Call in someone else. They just don't care at all about the finished product. Only about getting that last paycheck. read more

My experience with Puryear is a tale of 2 companies. The first, which constructed the pool, was awesome. The director of construction, Guy, was incredible. If I owned a business, I would offer him double whatever Puryear is paying him and hire him on the spot. He is great at communicating, explaining, troubleshooting, and assuring. If you are going to go with Puryear, I would demand that Guy oversee the construction. My only complaint is about the various crews who littered my yard and the construction area with their personal trash. Almost on a daily basis I had to clean up their discarded coke cans & bottles, etc. After construction, I unfortunately had to deal with the other Puryear, the warranty and service department. What a nightmare. In that part of the company, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Communication between Puryear and the customer, and between their techs in the field and the office is so poor that it is insulting and unfathomable. My problem with Puryear is warranty work, not the pool maintenance service as I maintain my own pool. It took 8 months and repeated requests for them to finally install a hose to the Polaris cleaner pump so that the device now works properly. I had to have repairs done to earlier repairs, with the second repair crew telling me that the first repair crew did a poor job. It took 2 months for them to finally get the auto-fill to work properly and in doing so they so destabilized the pavers that many are now loose. In early March 2017 I contacted them with a request to repair the pavers. A tech (Jason) came out, looked at the situation, and reported it to the office. Here we are at the end of June and Puryear still has not sent out a crew to repair the pavers. Each time I speak with John in the Warranty department--and I always have to reach out to him, never is the initiative taken on their part to contact me--I am told "next week." That was three weeks ago. Just to follow up, I finally reached out to the owner of the company, Mr. Satterwhite, and the issue was addressed promptly and with courtesy on 28 June 2017. I am grateful to the owner for resolving the issue. I hope that Puryear can correct the complete chaos that appears to reign in the warranty/service department because we were very satisfied with Guy and the construction process and we are very pleased with the finished product. read more

We bought a two year old home that had a Puryear pool. For the most part it was a decent and attractive pool. At about year three though we had two tiles pop off, no big deal, I'm sure it happens. Over the next few weeks we had a total of 11 tiles pop off one at a time right in a row. Our trusted pool guy in our area (Wylie) took a look when we needed to fix it and noted that the workmanship behind the tiles was shoddy and wasn't properly done hence the continuation of tile after tile in a row popping off. I contacted Puryear as I felt like the 11 tiles that came off (with more loose on either end of the missing tiles) was excessive after only three years- less of a fluke and more of a serious issue. I understand after 10-15 years a pool may have to be retiled, that's part of being a pool owner, but three years with this kind of issue didn't seem right. The guy I spoke with at Puryear said since we weren't the original owner there was nothing he could do. I understand that the warranty ended with the original owner however if it were my business and that kind of poor workmanship was done by one of my contractors I would want to stand behind it. Meh, not so much with Puryear. So overall, our pool was pretty but I would say that you should plan on a higher probability of costly repairs with their workmanship compared to some of the other pool companies in the Metroplex. read more

If I were to write a line about every issue/problem we have had during our pool building experience, this review would so on for days, so out of respect for my fellow reader, I will try to summarize to the best of my ability. I would NEVER recommend Puryear Custom Pools to anyone! Our sales person, was great, UNTIL he had a signed contract in hand. After that, getting any kind of response from him was painful. He charged us an extra $2500-$3000, by misrepresenting their ability to access to our yard and using the smallest equipment they had instead of using the larger equipment to save time and money (they built a pool two houses down from us weeks after they finished ours and entered through the city land he told us they couldn't use). He didn't follow through with any of his responsibilities or promises. He put in "place holders" for colors because he didn't have samples, but he failed to tell the foreman they were place holders. Because of this we did not get what we wanted. When we asked that it be redone, the foreman fought us saying that it was too late and wouldn't be any better. We had to go above his head just to get it and even color (still not the color we wanted). The salesman also failed to submit the correct paperwork to the city for our electrical work and we failed the inspection. They had to come out and undo all of the electrical work for a new inspection and this put us behind two weeks. There were so many instances like this where things went wrong and no matter who you talked to, they found a way to blame someone else. Puryear has no internal communication and no one ever know what anyone else is doing, much less informing the customer of what is happening. One of the reasons we chose them was because the salesman told us they didn't use sub-contractors, giving them more control over the jobs. What he failed to mention was that was only for digging the pool. Everything else was sub-contracted. I understand that this is how most companies do business, but most don't lie about it. The company they hired to reroute our sprinkler showed up 4 hours late than sat on our front lawn for an hour doing who-knows-what. They finally started working and after about 20 minutes it started to rain. They stopped and left and didn't come back for a week. When we complained, Puryear's foreman said "we can't control the rain." My point was it took them about an hour to reroute the sprinkler system (incorrectly, by the way) they could have been done before the rain, if they hadn't sat in the yard laughing and joking, after being four hours late. Although, there were many, many more issues that came up during this process, I won't drone on about it, but I will say that if you are considering using Puryear Custom Pools...RECONSIDER! This was an incredibly painful process and most of our issues could have been avoided or at least remedied easily, but Puryear couldn't be bothered. read more

Do NOT work with Puryear Pools. I am beyond disappointed with their service. Three times my pool has been delayed due to their ineptness and three times they have not taken responsibility/accountability for their mistakes and have repeatedly blamed the Town of Flower Mound for the issues. The last conversation I had was with Jen, the owner. It could not have been a more rude encounter. Her "apology" was not an apology but yet another "everyone makes mistakes" excuse and we need to move on. While I tried to talk, she interrupted me and then when I asked her to stop interrupting me, she told me that she was not a 5 year old and I was not her parent...yes...she actually said that. So, instead of getting to the bottom of the issues within her company, she basically just called me to "smooth" over what had taken place with NO evidence that she had actually figured out what went wrong, how to fix it going forward, or anything. Our contract was signed end of February 2016 and the pool is still not done and it is Aug. 26th. No back to school party, no 6th birthday pool party. The last issue was that they poured the deck over our weep holes and it clearly states that it shouldn't be done on the plans. That was 2 weeks ago and today is when the sup came out to finally look at it. Now my husband has to set up an meeting with the inspector and the pool company (because he doesn't trust them to do anything right) to figure out what to do. The funny thing is that she said they were not taking any more contracts in Flower Mound for pools because the town was too hard to work with. I say that's a good thing for Flower Mound. Good Riddance Puryear! UPDATE: Now it is 9/22 and still no pool. In addition, the deck was poured over the weepholes and they had to dig out a portion of it and had to repour it. Now it doesn't match the rest of the deck which of course they can't do anything about. Our in-laws are in for a visit from OH and I mentioned this to them last week to see if they could pull up the plaster date and they said no because they had people in front of us...WHO COULD POSSIBLY BE IN FRONT OF US...people who signed their contract in 2015??? They give you a couple of days notice when your money has to be in their hands and my transfer from my fund account couldn't be completed in time. So I call the owner to see if he could make an exception after all the CRAP we have been through with them and its now 7 mths and he says "Since I posted my negative review on-line that he would leave the contract as is." I said if his company had taken some accountability and hadn't screwed up so many times, maybe I wouldn't need to WARN everyone to stay away from his company. Well, that's where we are....So maybe when its 50 degrees out, our pool will be done. read more

I would have to say that if you are planning to build a backyard oasis look no further. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. From day one of the planning when Brandon came out and was excited to do our design, which I must say he nailed it! To the construction, which was handled by James Antonio, we were always kept up to date with what was happening and when it was going to take place. I was home most of the time during the build, so I was able to witness most of the work that took place, and I must say that it was top notch. The workers that came out were genuinely happy to be there and the quality of work showed their happiness. It isn't very often that you get to hear from an owner of a company, but they called us every week to see how things were going. You just don't see that level of service from to many companies these days. If you are looking to have a slice of paradise built in your back yard give these guys a shot, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!! read more

Oh if I knew then what I know now...I can assure you that we wouldn't have gone with Puryear Pool when we decided to build our custom pool. While the construction process was slower than we had hoped for (when isn't that the case) in the Texas Summer, the after the completion phase has been ridiculously disappointing and down right infuriating. After spending more than we should have on a pool, part of our decking and retaining wall began cracking within a year of having it completely. After contacting the pool company to have someone come out to simply inspect it, more than two months have gone by with nothing but empty promises and no shows. Spend your money elsewhere...there are a lot of good reputable companies out there that actually care that they do a good job and stand by their work. This may be one of them, who knows...can't get them to show up! I'd swim in the sewer before I'd recommend Puryear Pools! read more

I'm not the type of guy that enjoys doing business with many people, but Puryear made it an enjoyable experience. They treat you with respect no matter how small your pool is. Puryear Custom Pools turned my backyard into a beautiful oasis! I first saw a Puryear Pool in the Fort Worth Texas Magazine Dream home and fell in love. When we were ready to build our pool, Puryear was the first and only company we contacted. We met with Bill, who came out to our house to meet us and assess the area where we wanted our pool built. He talked with us at length about what we wanted to use our pool for and what we were looking for. Surprisingly, my husband and I had very different ideas on the whole thing, but Bill listened and took notes and designed us an amazing pool and cabana that we both immediately fell in love with. Our builder Kevin was then with us from breaking ground to the final touches and was always there to accommodate when we wanted to tweak something or add something. He even found a way for me to build in a beautiful wooden cabinet I had to have, a custom beer bottle chandelier and of course, the Big Green Egg. The rock work is impeccable. The guys were here working non-stop daily cutting and chiseling each piece of rock by hand, despite it being the hottest summer in Texas ever! Finally, once our pool was filled, Brandon came out to teach us how it worked. To our surprise, the pool basically takes care of itself. Our Jandy equipment does all the work. We simply test the water and adjust the levels on a wireless remote control and we're done. No pouring in acid, vacuuming or backwashing. Brandon has been available every time we've had a question. He's prompt in coming out to check on us if we think there is a problem or can usually just answer our questions over the phone. We could not have asked for a better experience.
