I came looking for ideas for my condo that I plan on remodeling. I don't know what I was expecting but it sure wasn't what I found. Definitely wish I had a bigger house to put in an iron door! They sure had a bunch. I was looking for some new floors and cabinets. Solid inventory and variety. They also do free kitchen designs which is a nice plus. I went to their Garland location but went to check out this one since I was in the area. Mostly the same stuff, both stores also had windows and a lot of doors. Date of transaction 10.15.25 Door double patio doors and front door We visited the store on 10.15 and worked with sales person Adam. We explained to him exactly what we wanted and he said we needed a Left handle door..so we purchased the doors and had the contractor pick up the doors on 10/21/25. As the contractors were installing the doors i noticed the door was the wrong door and the door handle was on the right and not the left. The the contractors are now charging 200.00 for them to exchange the doors out . Per the surplus store they can't absorb the cost. It's not my error its theirs as their new employee sold is the wrong door. I would like my 200.00 back . On top of that my front door has 6 in jams and we were sold 4 in jams and the surplus store said they would have to customize the door and it would cost more ...they never asked us about the jams...now we have to pay 220.00 to the contractors to build out the door jams 2 inches Total of 420.00 and the surplus store is not taking accountable. They are only willing to give us the correct door. This morning Tim called and was very upset as I voiced my concerns via the BBB site and now refusing to change out my door...he called me out of my name and hung up in my face. Just purchased a $1300.00 Door, I believe through Eli, cool guy but clearly going through the motions. Picked a door in which they had to cut. We were told we would be called when completed. 5 days later went to check and the door had been done 4 days earlier.. which I originally asked to be done because the contractors were at the house. ( zero communication here..) Checked the door over and on the back side middle hinge, it was chipped bad.. whom ever cut the door damaged it with the rotor. I went back to, I believe his name was Travis that helped me. I let him know of the damaged. As soon as I said damage all the guys that were around scattered literally took off! Eli, the one who sold me the door and took off behind the metal doors. Another guy told Travis, good luck, go talk to your boy ( I'm assuming the guy that cuts the doors ) and than left him. Everyone literally left him with no help. Travis than apologized and said we can cut you another door but it will take 7 days!! Which meant I had to pay my contractors for coming out another day with no work because of this door. I than asked if there was any way to get the door done in 2 days when they come back, which would of been Friday. He said no... I than Came back Saturday to check progress, when I walked in I seen Eli, again.. but Travis helped me again. so I went over this door and the Edges were damaged pretty bad. So he said they had one more door left that was already cut. It definitely was better than the other 2 doors and because by I could not wait anymore due to the contractors literally at my house waiting I got the door. After installing the door, ... again something else... Whom ever cuts the doors needs learn or get a great deal of help... It looks like someone that doesn't care cut my door. The door and the frame match like a square peg trying to go in a circle. Where you put the plates on the inside of the door looks like they used a screw driver to cut it out. Never the less, sadly they have a great selection of doors and it looks to be ran by kids with no supervision. So inspect your doors very carefully as they will not take back any doors or really help you out after you leave. As this was told to me once I signed the paper. This was a $1200.00 experience I don't want again. When the door and the frame can't align up just sucks.. $1200.00 sadly wasn't worth the experience or trouble. The amount of money I will have to pay to fix the problem sucks. read more

Crap. Cheap quality. Don't purchase from here. Bought (4) doors. Regret it. 1. Doors warped, dinged, peeling. 2. Hinge mortise between jamb and door were cut free hand, not straight. On one door the jamb and door hinge didn't even align between the two 3. One door Jamb width 1/2 short. 4. Door stop not vertically aligned/plumb. Door stops don't go all the way to the door bottom and/or measure different lengths between the two sides. 5. Bore hole latches not mortised. Crap. Crap. Crap. Don't buy from here! read more

I purchased a front and back door from them. I installed the front door and and the door and frame holes did not line up. I asked the manager to bring me another door so I would have to reinstall the old door but he wouldn't do it. He said he didn't have to replace the door. And was doing me a favor. Ha! So I had to take the new door out reinstall the old door and drive 64 miles round trip to get another door. Take the old door out again and put the new door in again. It took me all day to install one door. Now on the back door I had it squared and level and I couldn't shut it. The only way I could shut is to make it unlevel. So I've learn a valuable learn an that is to stay away from Builders Surplus. It's been recommended that I go to R.E. Sweeney Co Inc.. read more

Their selection is decent, but their inability to provide prices over the phone can be inconvenient when you already know what you need and just need a price to fit your budget. Additionally, their lack of price matching and absence of contractor pricing options doesn't seem advantageous. When you do manage to find a reasonably priced door, it's not even justifiable to choose them over a big box store, where you get the benefit of a return policy and warranty coverage. read more

Each and every time we have received excellent service, however today we feel that JOHN, went above and beyond to help us find new doors for my daughters house. We purchased both the front and the back with hardware. I am a customer that needs guidance and suggestions. John took the time to show me what are some of the best sellers and yet, listened to what my daughter wanted for her house. Picked up the doors and of course John was there ready to help load the doors. We also need another set of doors for our office and would never consider the "big box" stores. You have to be careful what you get. Bought a door a while back and the edge was damaged. They won't take returns or swap it out. They won't give any pricing over the phone. And to top it off, their prices are the same or sometimes more than Lowes or HD. Used to spend thousands of $$ a year with them, but the last 5 years I walk out without buying anything. I went Builders Surplus on 02/18/2022 and it was as if I was an employee, not a customer. I had to nearly beg for help while 6 to 7 of the staff members stood around shooting the breeze. But, one employee stood out to be down right NASTY, HATEFUL & lacked in any sense of the word helpful or courtesy. He was EXTREMELY RUDE! Even though I was so treated so horrible at this facility, I spent close to $400 and I hated myself for doing so. I felt threaten and was quite shaken upon leaving this establishment. One employee/Cashier (A. Comerford & John) who was quite nice and apologetic for Chester's behavior. He had to several times tell Mr. Chester to be quite. I was in great need of the items I purchased, but realized that I could have taken my business to Lowe's or Home Depot. I pray to God that I NEVER have to patronize this company EVER AGAIN!...By the way, the NASTY, UGLY ACTING EMPLOYEE name is CHESTER! An honest review here...I came here to get my flooring because I liked the pattern best out of everything I had seen. It was not cheaper than in stores by any means. Antolin helped me on both Saturday and today and was BEYOND AMAZING. The man deserves a raise. He is literally the only reason I didn't back out of my $4600 purchase when the following happened: When I walked in today with two small children in tow to make the final purchase and pick up on my flooring, a woman named Melissa asked me if I had a mask. I told her no. She said, "We have some here (pointing to a box) if you would like one." I told her no thank you. Now, let me be the first to say that while I don't desire and won't wear a mask if not mandated, I have no problem respecting the rights of small business owners and will wear one if told that this is the expectation. However what followed my decline of a mask that was only offered, never told that it was expected was this: "Well, honey, I make the rules, and you can either wear one or leave." (insert head shaking, full RBF, and attitude). I told her she didn't have to be rude and sent my kid to get a mask. She replied that she wasn't being rude but she made the rules. After I picked up my flooring and was checking out with the same lovely woman, Melissa, I asked her her name. When she told me I said, "Melissa, can I just say that kindness goes a lot further than being rude and had you let me know that it was an expectation I would not have had a problem, but calling me honey in a condescending way and telling me you make the rules is extremely rude and unnecessary especially considering I'm about to spend over $4,500.00. Her response that she didn't say that was followed with her telling me that she didn't have to put up with me and literally leaving her register. She just walked off leaving me and two other men unattended. She didn't return and no one came up to replace her. I had to seek someone out on my own after several minutes went by. While loading my flooring, I looked over and Melissa was back and was staring me down. Seriously, she wouldn't take her eyes off of me. Avoiding my first instinct to show her my favorite finger, I blew her a kiss and continued what I was doing. She then started yelling things out the door of the store at me! This woman is completely unprofessional and possibly slightly menopausal or bipolar. She is a very poor reflection of a business that also has amazing employees like Antolin. I would think that the business would want someone that was the first and last face patrons to their business see to be a professional with manners and a smile, not a neurotic egotistical Karen on a power trip when she really has no power at all beyond pressing the buttons on a register. While I still have about $10,000 worth of renovations to go, I won't be returning solely based on my experience with this one employee. read more

Figured since I was here I'd talk to someone about new kitchen cabinets and granite counter tops. Jaimie was awesome and helped guide me through the process. They had a good variation of colors for granite and quartz. Pretty strict return policy though so make sure you know what you're looking for. read more

If there was a zero star review I'd leave it. The customer service at this place is disgusting. I purchased 18 interior knotty aldar doors. I came back 2 weeks later to purchase one more. The door was marked $344.99. At the register, it rang up $572. The girl said she could probably still sell to me for $344.99 but would need managers approval. I told her I'd just bought 18 others that were the same door for $344.99. Manager came back and said "sorry the new price is $572, we just haven't put new stickers on anything" he could of cared less that I just spent over $8,000 on the other doors and miscellaneous items with them. Had to edit this review after sending my dad over to pick up the door that I looked at yesterday and was quoted a price when he gets there only to find out the price is over $100 more. Talked to the manager Darren who didn't care. Knew who the employee was that quoted me. But oh well lesson learned. Buy it then or you're not gonna get that price. Customer service is trash. Boy do they have a BUNCH of stuff here. We were looking around for a few things after shopping at some of the big box stores. Buyers BE AWARE (not beware but be aware). It's not that the quality is bad or the service they are actually quite good. It's the prices. Some of them are a good deal but others were way out of line with the competition. I have shopped this location (Haltom City, TX.) before and had good service. Today I had a "Great" shopping experience. I was trying to meet a dealine with my contractor. I desperately needed a pre-hung door by the end of the day. The policy is with an additional charge you can have it by the end of the day. Mgr. George Devereaux took the time to have the door done within an hour to satisfy my needs. He and his team went above and beyond to make sure that I had a "Great" shopping experience. Buyer BEWARE. They DO NOT DO REFUNDS. All of the business I do business with will refund your money within reason. I bought some door knobs that I found I did not need. I returned them as they left the store in the original packaging within 3 weeks. When I returned them, I was told they DO NOT DO REFUNDS. It is printed up on the wall about 20 feet above the cash register that they DO NOT DO REFUNDS. I never saw the sign way up there, not very obvious. I talked to the manager and was told NO REFUNDS. They gave me a store credit on a receipt that will fade when placed in the sun. read more
