I like the process but not the wine. We swung by to visit this vineyard and the surrounding lavender farm (which I get to review separately). What I liked was being able to taste a flight of one-ounce of everything they have on hand (to taste). The pours were still on the generous side, and my wife and I comfortably shared one flight. It's good we shared because we weren't thrilled with any of the wines offered. On the plus side, they are only minutes away from a Buc-ee's! It's a chance to at least pick up some jerky that might pair well with some of their lavender-leaning wines. If this were a standalone vineyard, the rating might have been a bit lower. However, the restfulness of the surrounding farm made for an OK experience that we have no desire to repeat. read more

While I loved the ambiance of the space and the gift shop, I wasn't completely taken with the lavender wines. I wanted to like them but the lavender wasn't prominent enough to make a huge difference in the overall taste. A lot of the wine seemed immature. Overall, a lovely place to visit but the wine was not my favorite. read more

Do you like white, red, or lavender wine? If you answered YES!, then this is the place for you. This place is a nice combination of vineyard, farm, and an all-things lavender gift shop. You don't have to like wine to enjoy this place. Nor do you have to like lavender. Lots of seating and tables in a beautiful outside setting. read more

I am totally embarrassed that I did not complete a review for this vineyard sooner. It's been 2 years (8/28/2018) since last visiting but I remember every detail as if it was yesterday. This winery is one of the best ever!! The location is easily accessible from main road, beautiful grounds, impressive outdoor tasting room and perfect indoor store Who knew the scent of lavender could be so divine... Meeee !! That's why I visited people, stay w me here !! Haha Anyhoo, our outdoor tasting experience was handled by Rebecca & Kayla and they were fantastic and accurate w taste descriptions, great personalities, etc. My husband and I tasted several different wines and enjoyed them all. The Reisling and Dragonfly was my 2 favs. There was no way I could leave without a bottle of wine so I purchased a bottle for our friend's who we vacationed w. Just when I thought things couldn't get better, I stepped into the on-site store! This place was magnificent w everything lavender!! I had to negotiate w myself on what items to buy and which to leave! So many items to pick from!! They had novelties, soaps, creams, home decor, condiments, you name it. I left w a lavender candy bar, lavender soap and a lavender body cream. So many pleasant thoughts of this place remained with me after leaving that I look forward to returning back. We make it a point to visit a different winery annually when we visit Massanutten Resort and I think this winery may be put into rotation more often :) read more

This was our second visit to Purple Wolf Vineyard ~Lavender Farm. We went in September 2022 & most recently February 2023 with friends. There is a gift shop featuring samples of lavender coffee & cream. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, however there is an extra fee to walk the farm & see the animals. We enjoyed sitting on the back patio by the fire pit looking at the beautiful lavender fields while watching the animals grazing in the upper fields. The patio is very nice. The beer & wine, however were NOT very good. There were two ladies sitting next to us that commented that the wines were very dry & they weren't enjoying them either. We enjoy a sweeter wine & light Kolsch style beers so maybe it was our taste. The beer was described as very carbonated by our friends who choose not to finish them. Service could've been better too. The staff pour what you ask & never check on you. A little conversation to engage your customers goes a long way. We won't be back. read more

Lavender gift shop was nice with many options from culinary to bath and body. Wine tasting and wines were ok. Due to covid we did not get a one on one pouring experience where each wine was described and there was no chance to ask questions about the wines as we tasted. Instead the wines were poured, we were given a small tasting sheet and sent to another room to taste our wines which really felt impersonal. The wines were ok. Out of 12 wines, we liked three enough to purchase a bottle. Lavender gift shop was a better experience than the wine tasting. read more

Loved this winery!!! Wine was great, our favorites were the wine slushes. I love the lavender scent that is all over. Another hit was I got bath bombs and it was amazing when I used it. I would definitely recommend. Everyone was welcoming and polite. read more

Lavender Farm, Vineyard, llama place. I did stop here and used it as my office for a few hours and am a better (read more relaxed, happier) person for it. Just past George Mason U is a farm, lavender bish place, and winery. Gift shop is the center with all things lavender. Lots of room to sit and work in the afternoon. With WiFi. People were very nice. And it is a lavender winery which is unique and easy to sip. Different experience and very comfortable. read more

Gotta love unique twists on wineries! While the other ones I visited in the area had more scenery (there were big hills and farm buildings around that blocked the horizon in most directions), this one made up for that with a lavender twist! So, Purple Wolf is a part of a lavender farm, so it obviously fills the air! And you guessed it -- some of the wines are infused with lavender! This made them even more aromatic and pleasant than they already would've been! I got to do side-by-side comparisons of wines with and without the lavender by trying a flight. What I found is that depending on the wine type, the intensity of the lavender varied -- sometimes it was an aftertaste, sometimes it dominated the flavor! All in all, this was an awesome experience and if you're a lavender lover AND a wine lover, this is the place for you! read more

This my first time but great experience and very great recommendation. We tried the wine and beer flights and both were amazing. Would absolutely recommend coming for the view and scenery. read more

Very cute vineyard! Perfect atmosphere for relaxing. I really enjoyed the lavender wine slushes.

Had a pleasant experience here. Did a flight of their sweet wine. Also tried their blueberry ice cream. Everyone was pretty nice... LAVENDER EVERYTHING! So if you're about lavender definitely check this place out! read more

4 stars because they are exactly as they advertise. If you're not a fan of lavender-infused wines, this won't be the place for you. But if you want to try something different, then visit here. Purple Wolf is co-located with White Oak Lavender Farm; it's a two-for-one deal. The grapes are from Cave Ridge winery (who also makes the wine). Not all of the wines are infused with lavender, but several are. Cave Ridge is an excellent winery which does custom-crush for several places. But when it came to the lavender infused wines, the wines that were the most aromatic were definitely the ones that mixed well with the lavender. 2014 Viognier: Very aromatic; not usually not a fan of this grape and this didn't change my mind. 2015 Traminette: This was NOT infused with lavender, although from the nose you'd swear it was. 2014 Riesling: Off dry. Nice, crisp. 2014 Imperial Gem (Chardonnay with lavender): My first lavender infused wine. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised the two worked well. I also enjoyed the oak on it. Chambourcin (not sure what year): Jammy & fruity. I'm not a Chambourcin fan either so don't take my dislike of it as the wine was bad. Pardon My Purple: Another lavender infused wine, this time with Chambourcin. Not bad. 2012 Cabernet Franc: Just OK. Rose: My notes fail me but I don't drink roses. Royal Velvet (desert wine with Traminette and lavender): Actually pretty good! The lavender plays well with this grape. read more

Purple Wolf Vineyard - Garden area - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Harrisonburg, Virginia

About 2 1/2 hours from DC is Purple Wolf Vineyard, which is connected with White Oak Lavender Farm. It's a great spot to visit in Harrisonburg not far from the main part of town. We initially stopped in because we wanted to pick lavender. Unfortunately we were a few weeks early and the lavender wasn't ready. There are other things to do such as take a tour of the farm, explore the shop, and visit the winery. We decided to split a wine flight of 4 wines. They offer a mix of red and white wines, but they also offer wines that are infused with lavender. If you're not a lavender fan you will not like the wine. We tried four wines, two of which were infused with lavender. The lavender infused wine was interesting and shifted the wine to the sweeter side. Staff was friendly and accommodating during our visit. They are dog friendly, including in the tasting room which was great since we brought our pup along. Great spot for a picnic too, the views are lovely. read more

Purple Wolf Vineyard - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Harrisonburg, Virginia

I absolutely loved my visit to the Purple Wolf and lavender farm this weekend!! Being an avid horse lover, lavender scent freak, and city girl devoid of scenic views this is heaven. *While it is not peak season and there was no lavender to pick (hence why I'm reviewing the winery and not White Oak Lavender Farm- which I hope to visit when its in its fully blossoms glory)* I throughly enjoyed my visit, particularly the wine tasting portion of the farm. I would definitely recommend this location as the weather gets warmer! I will be returning in early May-late June when the lavender is in full bloom and I highly suggest you do too!! There is ample seating for larger parties, or cozy books for couples in love. They have huge checker boards and life size connect four games. The winery is central offering wide views of the estate or you can sit outside right next to the pony area! We started with a flight of a few wines. It was nice to be able to sample whites, Rose, and reds. They range from dry to sweet desert wines and I made sure to try all ends of the spectrum. For $12 you can get a good little pour of 4 different selections. We added some cheese, crackers and salami to make the experience just perfect. My favorite was the Royale Velvet sweet red wine!! So full of flavor, I wish I tasted more of the lavender infusions in the wines however. I can't imagine anything more serene and beautiful than sipping some new and exciting wines with ponies in the paddock within sight. It's breathtaking, and keep in mind not full bloom yet. After some tasting, make sure you do the farm tour with cage free chickens following you around for $3 a person, and check out the gift shop! read more

This place was fabulous and worth the drive from DC! From the wine to the scenary to the customer service...they were amazing!!!! Taylor did our wine tasting and she had the best personality for our group of three! We did 12 tastings for $10 and also purchased a cheese and meat tray along with lavender honey and jam which was to die for. They also have an option for you to purchase U pick your own lavendar and cut your own lavendar as well as to participate in your own self guided tour of the farm. I left with an additional 2 bottles of wine and a very happy tummy! We forgot to purchase the lavendar ice cream on our way out! It was a great time and I can't wait to go back! read more

I loved everything about this place! It's a vineyard that shares land with a lavender farm, so be prepared to drop some money on lavender-related things. The buildings are all painted purple and the space is so cute. There's space to sit inside or outside, and a little open air building that can be rented out for private events. On the property, there are also live animals: horses, ponies, llamas/alpacas (I can't tell the difference from far away), and goats. They've got a giant sized (purple/lavender colored!) Connect Four and corn hole games outdoors too. They offer 10 tastings (5 whites and 5 reds) for $12. If you buy 6+ bottles of wine, your tasting is free. The tasting sheet had pictures of lavender next to it if the wine was infused with lavender, which was such a unique experience of tasting wine. I ended up buying 2 bottles of lavender wine there: Royale Velvet (a red port style wine) and Dragonfly (blend of Traminette and Chardonnay). I also purchased 2 lavender satchels and a lavender scented stress ball from the gift shop because I work in counseling and the smell of lavender is so calming and great for working with students with trauma. The things in the gift shop are a bit pricey, but still a fun place to peruse! read more

Cute vineyard. 12 wines for 12$. Mostly dry. Did have yummy wine slushes. Kids got the ice cream, 3.50$ for a small container. Kids also went to see the animals 3$ each. We brought our own snacks and enjoyed a bottle of wine. Gift shop was also cute, purchased some lavender spray Very nice family atmosphere We would return read more

Aesthetically this place is very pleasing. They really adopt the idea of purple into all of their furniture! I sampled a few of the wines but was not super impressed. I would have been more inclined to try some of their others and even buy one but they charged for their tasting so I did not. It is not a big facility but what they have is quite nice. Had I liked the wine/gotten to sample one I liked I would've been more inclined to give a better rating. Overall not bad but not a lot here either. read more

Im not 21 so I only went to the lavender store, the cashiers were delightful and I got so many relaxing products. For example a lavender scented bag to put under my pillow and a cute basket. The cashiers seemed to genuinely care about the business and the place in which they lived. The outside is beautiful so I got quite a few good photos of myself with the lavender field. I didn't spend long here but I very much so enjoyed this place. read more

I'm not one to usually post reviews but I believe the Purple Wolf deserves it. The wines are interesting with lavender infused in both whites and reds. My wife and I agreed the lavender works better with the reds. However the main reason for my review is not the wines per se which are pleasant , but in the way the winery is run. You can get a full tasting of 12 wines for $12 or a wine flight of several wines, or a tasting of just whites or just reds. It's nice to have several options to choose from which I find to be pretty unique. In this era of covid, they have they have little shot glasses of the wines already prepared with a handy carrier along with an educational video you can watch on your phone as a substitute for guided tastings. Very creative. Lots of outdoor room to sit with more to come. A very nice experience. read more

We were here in May 2019 and again now in May 2021. Great location from Massanutten. I enjoyed the lavender infused wines but my husband did not. Unique vineyard but not impressed with their current flight pours. If they are going to drastically reduce the pours, maybe they should reduce the cost as well. Not worth it. With all the other wineries/vineyards in the area we probably won't go back during our future visits to Massanutten. read more

Super rude staff. Guys behind the counter feels the need to make sure people know he's in charge. Seriously awkward.

This is one of my favorite places to visit. The owner's daughter works there and she is outstanding. Very beautiful and picturesque and the wines are just so lovely. We fell in love with this place and the beauty of the purple lavender fields, barns, buildings and tapestries just add to the ambiance. The wines really are unique and so much fun to try. My son loves to come with us to play the games and indulge in the variety of lavender ice cream. A total win. read more

This is a very cute Winery, and its wine tasting prices are pretty decent. However the cost of the wines at $24 for a mediocre wine. Also if you want to do the petting zoo don't bother it's a waste of money. You're only allowed to touch the pigs. none of the other animals want anything to do with you. read more

Went to this vineyard on my birthday and loved it! The woman who assisted me, Katie, had an absolutely sparkling personality. I did the $12 wine tasting (they are quite generous with their portions) with two white wines and two red including two dessert wines (one port and one white dessert wine). I liked most of the wines as well as the selection of European cheeses they had. They allow dogs at this winery which is great because I got to pet one as well as see some of the farm animals they have close to the tasting area. Their gardens are also exceptionally beautiful.
