Pie slices come out in pieces parts, which we have never seen anyplace else. Not sure how they fail to cut and deliver a full slice. Pay at counter and get pie/ice cream at counter. Cashier was ready to check me out at the counter, then took a Lonnggggggg phone call instead as I stood there with melting ice cream over the pie. So I am left standing there insetad of being served and cashed out. Horrible decision. Ask the person on the phone to wait and take care of customer at the counter. My checkout would have been less than 25% of time of the phone order. We will not return because of the cashier's poor business practice. read more

The "Rhubarb-Raspberry-Jalapeño Pie" alone could earn this restaurant 7 stars if they served that and nothing else. I was really impressed with most of their pies. I found that they weren't loaded with extra sugar, letting the sweetness of the fruits do the talking. The crusts on all the fruit pies were served warm, were flaky and rich. Pie Ranking: 1. Rhubarb-Raspberry-Jalapeño (actually bought another slice after finishing all the others, it was so good ) 2. Bumbleberry 3. Blueberry 4. Apple 5. Chocolate Cream Pie (I'm sorry, pudding on a crust is not a pie) So the reason I'm docking a star is because the other menu items are very average. The "Grilled Cheese" has some good Texas toast, but the cheese was krafts singles. The "Caesar Salad" was so basic I could've made it at home; it was just lettuce, cheese and croutons. The "Mac n Cheese" similarly had no pizzazz. I was disappointed they took their vegetarian options off the menu. What's more, they couldn't even make us the "Chicken Caesar Panini" without the chicken because it was all mixed before hand and pre-made? That didn't seem right to me. This place really catches your eye as you drive towards Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Make sure you don't get ice cream of you come here, it's just average at best, very similar to thrifty style, and over priced. I got a scoop of mint and a scoop of huckleberry ice cream, and was decidedly underwhelmed. Make sure to get a pie...the bumbleberry pie was fantastic! One of our friends told us to be sure and stop by the Purple Pie Palace since we were going to Custer State Park. We are so glad we did. My husband had the pictures peanut butter pie and I had the bumbleberry and we shared a chocolate shake. (Go big or go home.). Everything was delicious. The staff, which may have been the owners, were very friendly and engaging. Our only disappointment is that we had already eaten lunch because we didn't know that they served it here. Woooow. My wife and I shared the Blackberry pie and it was amazing. Just the right amount of delicious icecream to go with it. It was closing time so we were glad we snuck in right before the "open" sign got turned off. Because of that... I decided to try a couple of pies and i sure am glad i did. The Strawberry Rhubarb was the best, and the blueberry was a close second.

Chicken Pot Pie was great! We also ordered the Turkey Breast sandwich (it was okay) and Chicken Salad sandwich (pretty good). We came during the dinner/dessert rush on a Sunday evening. Two people ahead of me and the clerk (maybe owner?) was arguing with the first person in line about something. Then he waited on the person in front of us very curtly. When I got to the counter I said "Are you always so grumpy?" and he said no and continued to be grumpy. When I ordered the pie of choice he said "we're out". Got the other kind instead ($5.26 for a slice) which was plopped down in front of me. Then we left. The guy was "content" with us, as guests, being there. One girl was even/average and the other wearing a Tupac shirt (yes) was flat out annoyed that we were there. We arrived at 7:50p and didn't sit down to enjoy our ice cream until 8:16pm. 3 people working and 14 people in front of us. You do the math. Probably the worst place ever. 1st we wanted a sit down meal. We came in and stood around for a few minutes waiting to be told where to go. No one even glanced at us. My mother finally asked where to go. We were told to go back there (with a general wave of the hand). And sit down. So we went and sat down and waited, and waited, and Waited! 15 minutes later mom (86 years old, I'm 60) got up and chased down a waitress to get menus. The young lady came over, gave us menu's and took our drink orders. 10 minutes later she came back with our drinks. She took our lunch order and left. 45 minutes, no exaggeration, I was timing her, I got up and went looking for lunch. I found the waitress and asked about our food. She looked into the kitchen and said that our food had just come out. I sat down and it took 5 more minutes for her to bring us our COLD food. By this point I'm starving, so I ate it anyway. I had a French Dip with provolone. Brought it without the cheese. Took it back, threw a piece of cheese on it, slapped it down and left. The bun was the consistency of white bread, the meat was cold. Moms sandwich was soggy and tasteless. Like I said, we ate because we were both hungry by then. Another 20 minutes, the waitress never checked on us. Didn't ask if we needed anything. I had to get up and chase her down for the bill. $30 for 2 sandwiches with a bag of chips each and a drink. Horrible service. Lackluster food. Too much money for the food. Skip it. Raspberry Rhubarb Jalapeño with a side of ice cream. Crust was nice and flaky and served warm it was worth the stop. It was warmer inside than outside so we opted to sit on the patio. We stopped here in 2020 during COVID and it was a great experience. We stopped again here yesterday 7/5 and again was amazed with the great food, pies and ice cream. We just had a very disappointing meal. My wife and I both ordered the chicken pot pie. While my serving had three pieces of chicken, my wife's only had one. There was a crust type on the top and bottom, but it was not an enclosed pot pie. Pretty pricey for a small portion at $13.95. We did order a piece of pie at $5.99 and by the time we were out the door, it was over $50. While the initial service was very fast, it took a long time to get our check and leave.
