Making my trip of exploring Filipino restaurants from different regions and I'm glad to have stumbled across this spot. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking, it can get pretty competitive, best to ride share or carpool. Seating: Spacious! They have patio seating, intimate dine-in, bar, and a room for privates! Plenty of seating but this place could get packed, especially in the evening and weekends so be sure to RSVP. Feels: You're in the outter ends of DC but still in the DC area so you do get elements of the local neighborhood and small business restaurants. The place itself is pretty eclectic. Relatively clean with simple nods to Filipino culture such as its decor or the goods they sell at their sari sari setup. The pop music in the background made it feel welcoming. They have a bar area if you want to watch sports or other shows. Great place overall - whether it may be a food adventure, family gathering, or date night. FOOD: Hot Calamansi Honey Tea (Recommend) A good warm starter. Calamansi is basically like a lemon so it felt welcoming with some hot familiar flavors, topped with some honey. Pandesal: Pandan Honey Butter w/ Cheese (Recommend) A bang for your buck. I'm not used to pandesals made like this but I'm glad I am now. I appreciated the wealthy size and the portions (they gave two!) enjoy the caramemlize toast to it, the warm melted cheese and sweet butter. Crab Fat Pancit Canton (Recommend) I love dishes that stick to their roots but also incorporate local themes and flavors. If I could rate this restaurant higher than this app allows me to, I would. There were clear signs directing you where to go due to the location itself being a bit confusing if you didn't know your way around. Three of us were seated immediately on the patio and greeted by our server just as quickly. We arrived at 2:30pm and it was communicated to us that the kitchen would be closed at 3pm but we still had time to put our orders in. Food was served within ten minutes and it was plated so beautifully!! Our server recommended the pork skewers, short rib sliders, and ube pancakes. We ordered the chicken adobo bowl as well. Every single dish was so tasty. The skewers were coated with an awesome sticky sweet sauce, the sliders had a perfect amount of meat in them, the ube pancakes tasted just sweet enough that it wasn't tooth rotting but still enjoyable and those came with the juiciest pork belly bites. The purple patch is a hidden gem in the mount pleasant neighborhood of Washington DC. Serving Filipino dishes with an American flare to it. This place is truly unique and problaby some of the best Filipino food I have ever had. They serve a variety of brunch and dinner dishes. All of the portion sizes here are quite large and generous though. I went with the pork adobo and my fiancée got their fish dish. The fish was incredible served in this cream sauce that was cooked perfectly. The pork adobo was delicious the pork was flavored well and you felt full and fulfilled after eating it. In a week full of fancy tasting menus and wine pairings, a visit to Purple Patch for brunch still stood out as one of the highlights of our trip. We had never tried calamansi before and agree with the server that this citrus makes a stellar mimosa. I was in the mood for pancakes, but didn't want to miss out on Filipino savories. Their ube pancakes with lechon ended up being a perfect sweet and savory brunch. We also enjoyed their sinangag with garlic pork sausage. The papaya salad, tomatoes, fried egg, and garlic was a wonderful balance of flavors. Yes, it's essentially a Filipino bibimbap or fried rice, but it was tasty. We ended on a fantastic ube bread pudding with ube ice cream. This was a gorgeous creation and a unique take on bread pudding. What a delight dining at Purple Patch was! As someone who has rarely had the opportunity to try Filipino cuisine, I was new to most dishes and really enjoyed them all. I highly recommend a reservation! -- Purple Patch serves a large selection of Filipino foods with American influences and possesses an equally as impressive selection of alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) drink options. I dined on a Saturday night, while a private event was happening. Calling ahead, I was informed the wait time was estimated to be 45 minutes to 1 hour for a group of 3. But after arriving in person, I was informed it'd be 1.5 hours for a table and instantly for bar seating. It was a pleasant surprise my party could be seated immediately. However, I suppose I'd have to recommend anyone who is thinking of dining at Purple Patch to make a reservation and/or also call ahead to estimate wait time, or be prepared to wait a LONG TIME for a table. For my group of 3, the bar seating was fairly comfortable, but not ideal. It had high top chair seating and had hooks along the wall for bags. Overall the restaurant is loud and I can see the bar seating being particularly hard to have conversations for larger groups since we had some trouble hearing each other as a small group. The restaurant is dimly lit and because of this, the three TVs and music were a little overwhelming. I appreciated that since there were low bars/signal in the restaurant, that the WiFi was complimentary! The service was A++ in terms of friendliness, conversation, and banter, but a bit slow due to the HUGE volume of guests. Our bartenders doubled as servers and never stopped moving the whole time we were dining. We deeply respected their ability to balance so many tasks and to still make time to chat with us! I ordered: 1) Mama Alice's Lumpia, 2) Crab Fat Pancit Canton, and 3) Ube-Pineapple Tres Leches. We added another lumpia upon recommendation of the waiter, but weren't told it was an extra fee of $2 and didn't see in the menu. So just beware! The lumpia were crispy and tasty, but as they were so thin/ small I probably wouldn't order them again. I really enjoyed the crab fat pancit canton. It was very decadent and velvety. The noodles were a little chewy for me, but I really enjoyed the flavor. I finished the whole thing and would definitely order again. It is the definition of a comfort food! Lastly, the ube-pineapple tres leches was very moist and light. I felt it was far too sweet for me personally, but my party really enjoyed it! Overall, the service was phenomenal in relation to how busy it was. Purple Patch is one of my favorite spots in DC. I remember visiting for a Yelp event when they opened, and have loved it ever since. Purple Patch and I actually have the same birthday, so I have celebrated a few birthdays here, including my most recent. It's always such a fun vibe and the staff is so friendly. I am a chicken and waffle girlie, so I had to get the chicken and waffle here and it definitely did not disappoint. The waffle was flavorful and didn't really need the syrup. It also came with Ube ice cream and coconut syrup on the side. The chicken was perfect and cooked really well. I could order that chicken and waffles ten times over and eat it everyday. Made reservations for Friday during lunch and had no issues being seated. I will recommend that anyone looking to make reservations do it on Resy, because they aren't getting the Yelp reservations. Me and my boyfriend got the ribeye skewers to start and it was so savory and delicious. For my entrée, I got the pork adobe bowl and this was one of the most flavorful meals I've ever had. The broth that my rice was sitting in was very rich, the eggs were perfect, and the pork was extremely tender. I didn't get to try a bite of my boyfriend's breakfast sandwich, but he seemed to really like it. We also tried their Ube mojitos, and I would recommend anyone who likes Ube or is curious about it to definitely get this drink. I personally love the flavor and so I obviously loved this Mojito, and my boyfriend who has never had the flavor, also really enjoyed it as well. Absolutely incredible! Purple Patch has been on my restaurant bucket list for years, and I was SO excited when I finally got to try it. Whether you're visiting for brunch, happy hour, or dinner, Purple Patch is sure to offer a cozy dining experience and top-notch Filipino food. I first visited Purple Patch for brunch in early 2024 and was thoroughly impressed by this Mt Pleasant gem. We were seated at a small two-top nestled in the window bay on the second floor, which made our table feel the slightest bit separated from the rest of the restaurant, making the meal feel a lot more cozy and intimate. We couldn't decide whether we wanted a sweet or savory start to the day, so we split the ube French toast, mushroom sliders, and crab with garlic fried rice. The toast was the level of sweetness -- i.e., not too sweet -- and had a great ube flavor. The shiitake mushroom sliders were phenomenal; the mushrooms themselves pack a huge umami punch, and the atchara and banana ketchup give the dish a hint of sweet, salty, and tangy. The mini pandesal rolls were light and pillowy, and I loved the pickled veggies on the side for a hint of freshness. The star of the meal, though, had to be the crab; it was incredibly rich and fragrant from the coconut milk, and the garlic fried rice may not have looked like much, but it had a great flavor and texture. The dish also came with a generous helping of salad, which helped to break up the decadence of the rest of the dish. I'm not sure what took me so long to pay Purple Patch another visit, but the next time I had the pleasure of visiting was in September. This time, I came with a pretty large group (~15 people), and we were seated outside on their patio. The patio wasn't heated, but we definitely didn't need it for September in DC, and I loved how cozy the space felt with the string lights, linen curtains, and plants. The staff did an amazing job dealing with our giant group, and even left us a little sign on the table welcoming our party to the restaurant, as well as custom menus with a little welcome note. Everything we had that night was absolutely incredible, but a few highlights include: (1) Tokwa appetizer -- I don't think I've ever had such an incredible piece of tofu. These lovely nuggets of gold are stir fried to create a slightly crispy exterior and soft, melt-in-your-mouth center. They're then coated in a perfectly sweet, savory, and spicy calamansi sauce that is absolutely addictive. I ended up taking a box of these home to enjoy for dinner the next day. (2) Red snapper relleno -- unbelievably good. The red snapper was remarkably tender, with a slightly charred flavor from being broiled. The fillet was then coated with a generous helping of lump crab and then coated with a rich, creamy beurre blanc sauce. Everything about this dish screams decadence, but they do it so incredibly well -- it's typically served with rice, which does a great job of just soaking up all the extra sauce, as well as a small salad. read more

Our waitress gave us several really good options to try and was very patient with us. The food was all delicious. Our favorite was the lumpia and tofu appetizer. For dinner we tried the short ribs and they were so tender and flavorful. I wanted to lick the entire bowl. It had a slight vinegar flavor....very very good. We also tried the laing with tofu dish. The tofu was just excellent and the spinach sauce was flavorful. We got the garlic rice with both dishes and it was really good. Finally, we got the i've ice cream with bread pudding. The bread pudding was like a sticky rice and I enjoyed it and I typically don't like sticky rice. The ice cream was hard to describe but our friend described it as honey graham and we all agreed.
