Went for brunch on a weekend. Reservation recommended! The food was good, but i want to try it again for dinner to determine if i'd truly go back here. Got the chicken adobo "hash" which was good but a bit too saucy for me. We also got the ube chicken & waffles which were good. The lumpia was SMALL. & the ube cocktail was ..interesting. I love Filipino food, but have only had it at family gatherings or local take out spots, so Purple Patch was an interesting experience. Fair warning-it was incredibly smoky inside. A solid local spot for daily brunch and solo dining. Love their crab fried rice and the miso Caesar is a pretty good. Service is responsive and kind, my server helped me create a drink with ube and mezcal that was tasty. Love that they have a 2 story set up but also a street patio. The chefs are AFRAID of SEASONING and FLAVOR in Purple Patch!! Lol I don't know what's up with this high overall rating, but it obviously reflects individuals who may not have much experience eating at restaurant's with high quality tasting food. I had a reservation for one of my friends birthday and the staff left a plaque on the table that said "Happy Birthday..." This was probably the best thing of the night. The menu has to be scanned with a QR code and a AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity is added to the bill, but we sat for about 10 minutes before out waitress came over. It was pretty packed inside and outside as this place is pretty popular lol. My friend ordered a frozen margarita and it was stiff as a board and tasted like a board; I'm sure it came out of one of those plastic machines that are continuously on, instead of being made by a bartender. When we finally had the chance to order we ordered the short rib, chicken curry, and a house salad. It looked good initially, but all of it, probably with the exception of the house salad had no flavor and they had the nerve to not have salt and pepper at the table! The short rib had so much potential as it was properly cooked, tendaaa, but the gravy it sat in and no flavor and life in it whatsoever. Yes, sometimes you need salt and pepper as a supplement, but the chefs didn't even give it anything to start with. And then what they have a nerve to call curry is disgrace! They're not talking about THE chicken curry, they must have named this dish after Stephen Curry- light skin... If I was blindfolded and asked to guess what was sitting in front of me there is 0% chance I would have guessed it was curry! Curry is made with a host of ingredients that leave the olfactory bulbs tingling for hours-ginger, cinnamon, bay leaf etc., but this had 0 flavor. I guess Purple Patch assumed by naming it chicken curry, it would be a psychosomatic response where people would actually taste it... Naw. Not me! Also, whatever part of the chicken they used for the meat was too much and irregular in size. You can put parsley on top of a dish for face but it DOES NOT hide the fact that this we ordered food isn't worth feeding to a vulture or another scavenger. And you know how usually the waiter(tress) comes over while your stuffing your mouth and asks, "How's everything?" We saw our waitress once during our hour their talking about how bad the food was with each other and begging an employee for some salt and pepper which didn't help. Then we had to get our check from another waiter because our waiter, an older white woman, just disappeared after finally taking our orders. Like we didn't see her after the other waiter brought us the bill, this is my PROBLEM with the automatic 20% gratuity. Then she had the never to ask if we wanted a box. I thought she meant do we wat another box to eat, because that's what we sat there and did. No, no box. Leave the food there and the plaque. This is washed Filipino food and they had a nerve to charge us $83!..... **Update the owner personally reached out and apologized and noted a number of existential crises that have contributed to her absence, but she assured me that she brought these issues up to her crew. Disappointing. I'd been hoping to find a healthier alternative to the fast casual Filipino places my partner likes. We were four adults for a weekend dinner. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees. The portions were small, even the rice. We left hungry and went somewhere else for dessert. The food was fine but nothing special. Not enough flavor or spices. Of the seven dishes we ordered, not one person said, wow, this is good, have you tried this? Definitely avoid: The Crab Ginataang was a bowl of thin, bland coconut milk with spinach leaves floating on the top, more liquid than stew, and with very little crab meat. No ginger flavor at all. The Singkamas/mango salad had no mango in it and was mostly jicama with two thin slices of bell pepper and some carrot slivers. We asked the server about it and they said, that's the way it comes. (IDK but it was flavorless and without dressing or fruit of any kind) Maybe the kitchen was having a bad night, but I won't drop another $200 for a second try. Not featured in pics are the Lumpia and Pandan Honey Butter Buns that we devoured :) The "Love Bowl" was fabulous. Lemon juice to liven the flavor, but the crispy chicken, cooked shrimp, green bean and noodle were a scrumptious party of flavor in every bite. The sizzling sisig was succulent, savory, and satisfying. Pork cooked to perfection and the egg throughout helped to keep the meat juicy. We finished with their ube ice cream and bread pudding, which was TOO GOOD, I would have taken a picture but we kept "tasting" it until there was only purple Ube stains on a dish.. What a wonderful meal! The food is amazing, the staff are amazing, the drinks are good, and its not overpriced! What more could you ask for? I visited purple patch on a weekday about an hour before closing time. Its housed in one of the row house type buildings which gives it homey vibe. There is a bar up front that can't seat a dozen or so. Towards the back there are tables that could probably accommodate 40 people. The kitchen is upstairs I think. We had the bone in shortrib bistek, the lump crab fried rice and the fried tofu. The shortrib was huge and savory and delicious paired with the very slight sour from the crab fried rice and I was in heaven! The fried tofu was a little reminiscent of general taos to me but it's different & delicious. The only reason I finished all this food is because there was two of us. As good as the food is the service is even better. We got to meet the owner and she was so nice. Food came out quickly as well. read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. The food here is always fantastic, it's well presented, great flavor combinations. The staff is kind, congenial, and food comes out pretty quick. Although the outside seating is lovely, we sat the the end of the indoor space, sort of cozy and still lively. It's amazing what can be done with a basement! We got the tofu appetizer, Filipino -American breakfast, eggplant bowl, chicken &waffles and a side of ube pancakes because you simply must. And the only reason they're losing a star here was due to some technical difficulties that made getting a table pretty challenging. A friend of mine came a few minutes ahead of time to get a table and had a lot of trouble with their hostess and their connectivity.. seems like their whole system might have been down? Wow do I dream about this brunch everyday. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in DC because I have an unhealthy obsession with ube and there are so many items on the menu with ube I am literally in heaven. Also, the restaurant itself is super cute with some of the friendliest employees on the planet! Onto the food! We got the Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich, the Ube Waffle and Filipino Fried Chicken with Ube Ice Cream, the Ube Pancakes, the Bicol Express Pork Ribs, and the Chicken Adobo Hash. The Breakfast Sandwich featured a creamy soft scrambled egg and a delicious Filipino sausage called Longanisa. The Longanisa was so juicy and had almost a sweet flavor that was incredible. Put between two soft pieces of bread and garnished with a delicious crunchy coleslaw, I was so impressed. The Ube Waffle and Filipino Fried Chicken was a unique spin on a classic brunch entree. The waffle was melt in your mouth and the chicken was fried to perfection. The scoop of ice cream was a nice touch and was so creamy and delicious. The Ube Pancakes were so soft and fluffy and had a rich ube flavor. Just wow. The Bicol Express Pork Ribs had meat falling off the bone and were in a delicious sauce. They were a little salty if you are sensitive to that though. Lastly, the Chicken Adobo Hash was packed with yummy flavors, mainly from the perfectly seasoned chicken. I could not resist and ended my meal with another scoop of ube ice cream-- it just tasted so heavenly and creamy. My taste buds were seriously dancing on my tongue after this perfect meal. Come here if you want unbeatable prices in the city (for the quality of food you are getting), excellent service, and phenomenal food with generous portions. I got porkbelly adobo, which is my preferred meat for adobo (chicken is great too). I opted for garlic rice with my adobo instead of plain white rice which in retrospect would've been better to balance out the saltiness. The dessert options were amazing (I do have a sweet tooth) and the tres leches was dense, moist, and delicious. The dessert options made me wish that Purple Patch would open a sister bakery/cafe to sell those. The service provided throughout was very pleasant. They checked up periodically without feeling intrusive and they were kind and helpful when talking to us. The ambiance definitely feels more American but that's to be expected to some degree from a restaurant in DC, especially since Purple Patch incorporates Filipino and American influences in its menu. Purple Patch is delicious but the "more traditional food" is different than what I'm used to in my opinion. This probably comes down to regional differences in preparing foods, regardless of how modified the recipes may be to better appeal to the American palate. This isn't a criticism but something I had to remind myself of when reviewing Purple Patch. I've nonetheless introduced it to several friends and it's an excellent entry point into Filipino cuisine for DMV foodies who are unfamiliar and want an excuse to go out for some good Filipino food. read more

We came here with a large party and were given a huge offering of food and drink to choose from. We were seated in a separate dining area downstairs. Despite some allergies and dietary restrictions in our group, the staff was really accommodating and provided something for everyone. My favorite by far was the ube ice cream. It was sooo good! I could've eaten three more of those. The drinks were absolutely delicious too. I would come back in a heartbeat for those tropical tasting cocktails. my friends took me to this restaurant for the first time in 2021 for my birthday. i recall loving this spot because they had the traditional filipino dishes that ive missed out on since becoming a pescatarian almost 20 years ago. visited again just last week for a friend's surprise birthday kamayan and O M G was this such a good time. patrice and her staff were so gracious to host this special event and were so friendly from the beginning to the end. we had 3 folks out of the 10ish? people we had at our dinner with special dietary needs and they let us know in advance that it would be easier if they sat together for the kamayan to flow smoothly. i am a second gen filipina american and this was my very first kamayan! a lot of the foods and sauces they served i was very much familiar with but again, being pescatarian, i had missed out on a few traditional foods over the years. but damn! this dinner really brought back some childhood memories. we started off with an introduction from patrice the owner. she shared her and the restaurant's story and background on what a kamayan was and what kind of flavors she wanted to represent. soon after that a bunch of their staff were prompted to prepare the feast right before our eyes!!! next thing you know there are mountains of food and we were ready to grub! i'll tell you, even with 10 hungry full grown adults, we had so many leftovers! maybe 12 boxes worth of food to take home. they dont play around with the portions at all! ended the dinner with individually sized halo halo and the staff was gracious enough to bring out the birthday cake we bought for our friend and even presented it with lit up candles (super appreciated that) street parking can be a lil tight. most of us didn't have any cell service upstairs of the restaurant but they do make their wifi available for their customers. restaurant itself can be tight when walking towards the bathrooms... be careful walking up and down the stairs too, it can get dark in there. 100% highly recommend this spot for any occasion: casual dinner, out for cocktails or even a kamayan read more

The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was very meh. Loved the fried eggplant and the sizzing sisig (which it seems like a lot of people get). Portions are quite large and an entree can definitely fill you up. But skip the cocktails. The service, well, it was a bit of a mess. You check in, but we came during the dinner rush and the check in line was super backed up and there was nowhere to wait in line to see a hostess without getting in the way of other people. There was also a lot of confusion about what the line was for (they say you check in at the pineapple lamp but you can't actually see the lamp because it's hidden by the people). Our waiter also seemed like he hated his job. I asked which cocktails are less sweet and he said nothing on the menu except one drink was sweet. I'm always doubtful when they say this so I then picked one drink (not the one he said was sweet) and asked about it, and he got annoyed and said it wasn't sweet. I then asked for less of the liqueur in the drink and I swear to god he rolled his eyes. Well the drink came and of course it was super sugary. He also never even bothered to check in after taking our order. Delicious Filipino food! I've been coming to Purple Patch for a while because the food is very good. Their best dishes I've had are the beef adobo, chicken adobo, sizzling sisig, and (my favorite) tocino with garlic fried rice. The adobos are delicious and perfect if you want a warm, slow cooked and stewed meal. The broth is rich with a lot of depth. The sizzling sisig is quite the presentation - a fried egg on top of crunchy bits of pork belly served on a sizzling-hot cast iron skillet. And if you've never had tocino before (a filipino classic) you need to get it. If you've had it before, you still need to get it - it's amazing. Slightly sweet and very tender pork with an amazing garlic fried rice. Also, if you're looking for a great appetizer, get the lumpia. Don't get the burrito. It's terrible. The burger and steak are okay - and just okay. I also don't recommend the calamansi tokwa: a fried rice and tofu dish that is way too sweet for me. The spicy calamansi margarita is delicious! Having lived in Guam for a few years (where calamansi also grows), I could not believe I never had one before. I get it every time. Finally, the service is great. Very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Extremely professional. Definitely will come back again. And so should you. read more

I've frequented Purple Parch so many times, I don't know why it took me this long to actually right a review! Purple Patch is hands down one of the top Filipino restaurants in the DMV. I've tried so many of their dishes and have never been disappointed. Pre-covid I set up a large Kamayan feast for my boyfriend's birthday and, to this day, that was one of my most memorable meals. I reached out to the restaurant to request a Kamayan for my party and they took care of the rest. The Kamayan consisted of a delicious welcome drink, fish, lechon, shrimp, beef, bok choy, eggplant, and so much more! We finished off the meal with a halo halo, my favorite. Aside from the Kamayan, their entire menu is delicious. Most recently we ordered lumpia, pandan honey pandesal, ube pandesal, the family style pancit, sizzling sisig, and the red snapper relleno. I was looking forward to this restaurant the most on my D.C trip. Although the food was good, the service left a bad taste. Restaurant is located in the basement so there was no cell service, and we couldn't connect to their Wi-Fi either after trying on multiple devices; ended up asking for a paper menu. Our server girl was so bad. Just so unhappy, snappy, barky, and unwelcoming. Couldn't look at their online drink menu since they don't have a paper menu of it, and her best suggestion was for us to go outside to try to connect to their Wi-Fi. She had a computer to take our food order so perhaps she could have listed some drink options that way? Or maybe be knowledgeable enough to make some suggestions? With the automatic 20% gratuity, I felt like she slacked off. Anyway, the ube waffle was delicious. Together with the coconut and ube ice cream, it was so tasty! Very cute Filipino restaurant! It was my first time here in DC and we found this spot after going to the zoo. They have pretty good service and our server was really nice. The Pinoy cold front no. 5 was a deliciously dangerous espresso martini. It's small, but hits the spot pretty quick. The Ube syrup and dust is such a nice touch. My favorite food that we tried was the lechon kawali, so good and crispy and the pork adobo was so yummy. We got a scoop of Ube ice cream at the end which is always the best, but then I wanted to check out the little market upstairs and they had a ton of desserts that I wanted to buy. We got an Ube pineapple tres leche slice and omg it was so good. If I bought a whole cake I would be so tempted to eat the whole thing. Came here for brunch. The food is kind of hit or miss. Pork belly sandwich had some pretty tasty pork belly. The slaw that topped the sandwich was not to my liking. There was also a huge serving of scrambled egg on top. The bread is soft and may have been great in isolation, but it's softness makes for a difficult medium for holding a hefty sandwich. The best thing on the menu is the sizzling sisig with a side of garlic rice. It's super savory, the aromas are fantastic. The service was friendly and appreciated while the food came out in a timely manner. The purple patch sliders ($10) and Mama Alice's lumpia ($10) were ordered to start. The shitake mushroom sliders were chosen as there was a choice between that or chicken adobo or beef. They came with banana ketchup and an atchara papaya salad. These were okay. I liked the salad, but the mushroom did not do it for me. I did not like the texture. The lumpia consisted of five fried spring rolls with beef and pork with banana ketchup and spicy vinegar. These were great. The spring rolls tasted very fresh, and it seemed like it was handmade just by the look and appeal to them. The banana ketchup and spicy vinegar improved the overall flavor. This was my favorite dish I tried. For an entrée, the ube waffle and Filipino fried chicken with ube ice cream ($18) and the longanisa fried rice ($13) was ordered. There were 2 pieces of fried chicken braised with soy and vinegar on top of an Ube waffle with a scoop of Ube ice cream. The chicken pieces were small, but the crispiness and flavor made up for it. The ube waffle was one of the best I ever had. It was just so light and fluffy with a slight crisp on the edges. The ube ice cream was a nice addition when combined with the waffle. The fried rice came with garlic, carrots, onions, and the longanisa which was Filipino sausage. There was a ton of this, and it was excellent. The sausage had a soft texture to it but was good. Came to DC for a conference and attended a meet up with a local organization; I was impressed by what Purple Patch had to offer! FOOD: Our group was considerably big (about 20 people), and we ordered a good amount of the following dishes (and ate these huge portions of food with yummy garlic rice!): - Sizzling sisig w/ eggs (5/5, this was hands down their best dish; the flavors and textures did what they had to do) - Fried calamansi wings (5/5, this is my personal favorite because it was sweet and just a little spicy, yet packed such a punch with the flavor!) - Fried miso wings (3/5 pretty solid in flavor) - House salad (3/5 decent and fresh, did the job as green should do!) - Bicol Express (4.5/5, absolutely creamy and flavorful; so good with garlic rice!) - Arroz caldo (2/5, needed ginger and more citrus... and chicken!) - Lumpia (3/5, not oily which was great!) - Pork sinigang (2/5, since 95% of our group was Filipino, we all agreed that the soup was a lot more sour than it should have been) - Laing (4/5, this was yummy and creamy - the amount of chilis used was also great!) - Pinoy Cold Front No. 4 Cocktail (5/5, DELICIOUS; I loved the contrast between the ube powder, coffee flavor, and alcohol!) - Rainbow Kisses Cocktail (5/5, sweet and refreshing! Such a dangerous cocktail that does the job right!) - Halo Halo (2/5, decent, was missing some components but did its job as a dessert) SPACE: Love how big the space was! There's plenty of room inside and it includes a back room for private parties as well! If you were walking on the outside it would be an unsuspecting little place for huge groups to congregate! Seats are comfortable and decor is so cute and colorful. There were peacock designs on the walls of the back room which gave plenty of character to the space! There's also a shop upstairs that sells Filipino treats and trinkets! They really do it for the culture here. SERVICE: Service was solid; staff were welcoming and worked fast to serve our huge group of dinner attendees. Very grateful they were able to give our party good attention as well as accommodations! This is absolutely one of my favorite dinners on my trip to DC. My best friend growing up was Filipino and eating here took my right back to meals with her family. So much incredible food, different flavors and colors in every single dish. We were a big party of about 12 and they had a long table in a private room for a ready to go. The restaurant is much bigger than you'd think from the outside with two levels, some outside seating, a couple bars, etc. Even with all of this space, it is so cozy and intimate. It was a set menu so after drinks we had no decisions to make. Seriously, we just sat back as plate after plate (after plate after plate) came out. We all tried a couple but I recommend asking your waiter what they recommend and I don't think they will steer you wrong. Our very big set menu started with Mama Alice's Lumpia (fried spring rolls), crispy eggplant (one of my favorites of the night), and calamansi chicken skewers. Everything was incredible and I had to keep reminding myself to save room for the actual entrees. As if it couldn't get any better, our entree was a tasting of the red snapper relleno. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly and was served with lump crab. I ate so much more than I actually had room for because it was just so good. We also got the short rib adobo and pancit bihon (thin rice noodles). Everything was incredible. I firmly believe you can not go wrong when ordering. For dessert, we got the ube bread pudding and I am a sucker for anything ube! So delicious and the dollop of ube ice cream on top was just what I wanted after such a big meal. Purple patch is a fun neighborhood spot. They have good ambiance, food, and delicious cocktails. It's a nice place to meet friends for drinks, dinner, or even brunch. I was looking for a place to get Sunday brunch on my way out of town, and decided to stop here. I'm very glad I did! Their outdoor covered seating was all full, but we were able to snag a table inside and got seated right away. The menu was a mix of Filipino classics and other more modernized/westernized dishes. My wife ordered the sizzling sisig and I went with the pork adobo bowl. The pork adobo bowl was delicious, very garlicky, which I enjoy. Fortunately, my wife was kind enough to share some of her dish which was definitely my favorite of the 2. It was served to the tabling still sizzling loudly with a freshly cracked egg on top. I was so impressed by the presentation. My wife then mixed the egg in with the rest of the dish and it scrambled up right on the table. For dessert, we shared the turon with ice cream. It was a perfect sweet ending to our savory brunch entrees. Overall, this restaurant a great experience with both the atmosphere and menu. I enjoyed watching sports on some of the large TVs that are mounted to the walls. Music volume is just right and not too loud to make it hard to talk. Definitely stop by for brunch or any other meal if you're in the area! read more

5/5! This place is absolutely delicious! I've yet to have Filipino food in DC, so when I had a chance to do so with some friends, why not! Upon walking into the restaurant, you can instantly smell the delicious flavors from the food. The Food: For dinner, I went with the Sizzling Pork Sisig. I was not disappointed at all with this dish. The flavors and texture of the meat were tender and full of flavor! The dish comes out sizzling on a hot plate and that instant aroma you get is to die for. Paired with some rice t o soak up all the sauce, its a killer dish. The Service: The staff were very friendly! They answered all out questions we had about the menu and orders were brought out in a timely manner. We had a large table during a dinner rush and we didn't see a drop in service at all. They do include a 20% service charge automatically, but service was great anyway. There was plenty of eating as well and the restaurant as a whole was nicely decorated and clean. Overall, a 5/5!
