Went to dinner with my Brother, nephew and nephew's girlfriend yesterday at 5pm. I made the reservation and would recommend one cause the place gets very busy fast. I had 2 drinks the Ube mojito and Palawan both very good and would get both again. Got apps we did the lumpia, Lechon Kiwai and the crab Lechon. All the apps were tasty but the crab Lechon was my fav. For dinner I got the Red Snapper Relleno super good lots of crab stuffed inside and the Garlic rice 100/100.! Brother got the bone in short rib and it was so big we called him BamBam during the dinner he loves it and it's a bit of a picky eater my nephew and his girlfriend had a pasta dish and a burrito and both said it was good. For dessert we shared HaloHalo and ube pie. I would get both again and already told my brother we have to come back for my Birthday. I don't drive in DC and we live in MD so this will have to be a special treat but it was very good. I would recommend it to everyone. read more

Definitely didn't expect this place to disappoint given the reviews. If you're looking for Ilokano or Tagalog style home cooking, this IS NOT the place for you; and in my opinion isn't authentic Filipino food. Sinigang was spicy, bistek was weird tasting, lechon kawali does not come like it typically does with tomato, onion--it's literally deep fried pork belly--I.e chicharon--chicken was cold. The only thing that was decent was the garlic fried rice and the longanisa. As far as ambiance, it's nice, but the music playing was bizzare. What blew my mind is that 20% gratuity is automatically added on the bill . That's probably why they don't care too much about the quality of the food. They also didn't put something in that we ordered which who cares, we saved our money. Service was good but it doesn't make up for crappy food. Imo, food was horrible. read more

I was in DC for the week, and my local friends decided to take me here on one of the nights. And what a treat it was to eat here!! I can't say I have Filipino food often but damn was Purple Patch good. Every single dish was so flavorful and comforting that we had to order seconds. I personally loved the lumpia and the desserts. We walk in and go down the steps. You don't know what to expect but this is the cutest place ever it had hanging little tea lights. Everybody was warm, welcoming and friendly. The Wi-Fi didn't work very well so we needed paper menus to actually read it but that's OK. The young lady who came over to give them to us was very nice. Then we were introduced to Cory, he was great! We ordered some beverages. I got the espresso martini and the young Sabrina, I was with had it also, it was different made with rum. It was delicious and my son got a local brew, which he loved. We chose and shares three different items and every single dish the flavors made my taste buds danced. They were incredible. We chose a variety starting with the fried snapper, the adobe chicken and a steak and salad spinach greens, and the steak was cut up small and tender as can be. The salsa paired with Snapper and it was incredible. The presentations were amazing and beautiful. The sauce on the fried snapper fish was one of my favorites. The adobe chicken tasted out of this world and the chicken was so soft and tender. All of the vegetables included with these dishes, paired so but the flavors, gave it a little bit of crunch, a little bit of a acidity and a little bit of sweetness all of the combinations of this food out of this world. Purple Patch was recommended to me by my coworker and I was so impressed! I loved the home-y, cozy decor - it made our experience feel so intimate. The food was amazing from start to finish. My favorite part of the meal is always dessert, so we tried the Ube Tres Leches and it was a perfect balance of sweetness with the ube flavor really shining through. The chicken adobo was delicious (crispy and juicy), and the bread pudding was sublime (ube ice cream gave it another level). On my recent brunch experience to purple patch I tried their Filipino Beefsteak with a side of salad. I am a Filipino and I understand that their offerings would not be the same as one would get from home. I do respect and appreciate their interpretation and preparation of it. Cool underground bar and restaurant in a lively location. Staff are awesome, Frankie Jose Matt and Bridget took good care of us throughout. Head Chef was hosting a party and greeted us warmly as well. Lechon kawali and calamansi wings make for great apps. The calamansi honey tea is amazing. Tokwa needs to stay in the fryer for a few more minutes. The beef for bistek and alimasag fried rice weren't particularly fresh. Perhaps the fridge broke or some ingredients were stored improperly. This is my favorite restaurant in DC. Granted I haven't been to a ton of DC restaurants, but I really enjoy this one. The food is delicious--I loved the pork sinigang so much that now I want to learn how to make it at home. I also loved ginigaang with spinach. The desserts were really good--I tried a few of them. I spent 2 weeks in DC over the holidays in 2023, and I think I went to Purple Patch at least 8 times. EIGHT. TIMES. Clearly, I liked it, lol. It was suggested to me by my host due to the proximity to where I was staying and also by a friend who is Filipino, so I trusted his judgment on Filipino food. I tried a bunch of things on the menu, but the standouts for me were the coconut-braised short rib adobo, the calamansi wings, sizzling sisig, and the adobo fried chicken sandwich! For drinks & dessert, the ube bread pudding is bomb and the Pinoy Cold Front No 5 is great if you want something espresso martini-adjacent! I would personally pass on the mac & cheese and get one of the more traditional sides if that's what you're looking for. The service was so nice, everyone was so sweet to me, and by the end of the trip, I felt like I was at home. I also got to swing by for their NYE countdown and ate some crab curry and had champagne as the ball dropped in Times Square. Purple Patch has definitely become one of my recommended spots in DC. The server was so friendly and attentive. I wanted a little simple syrup with my unsweet tea and she made it happen no problem, which was super nice. They even go the extra mile and print out and frame a "happy birthday" or "happy anniversary" etc., if you make a reservation and tell them it's a special occasion! This place is a MUST if you are in D.C.! My friend highly recommended this place to me and we ended up going together last minute on a Sunday afternoon. The place was a lot more spacious that I expected (there are two areas which are separated by a mini hallway type of space). There aren't that many drink menus, but they do have a good food menu. I love how they had so many ube dishes!! The Sizzling Sisig was just amazing. So flavorful, well seasoned, and well cooked. I got the ube waffles & fried chicken with ice cream, which was amazing the first couple of bites but the chicken dried up REALLY fast and got pretty hard. I wish they were still tender and a lil less cooked so they didn't dry up so fast. Or else it would have been really good to finish the dish.. I've been to Purple Patch twice already and I'm so upset with myself that I haven't written a review yet. The food is phenomenal and they have something for everyone. I'm vegan and my dining partners (first with my boyfriend, second with my son) are omnivores so it was easy to find something for everyone. They also have gluten free options, which was great when I went during my "try gluten free for a month" period. I tried something new during each visit and there's still more to explore. My first trip I had Laing with shiitake mushrooms and for my second trip I tried the Calamansi Tokwa. Both absolutely delicious and I highly recommend getting garlic rice as a side for everything. Came here right when they opened at 4pm on a Saturday, didn't have a reservation but luckily we were able to find seating inside. Good to know that a reservation is probably better for next visit. Yes, next visit, I'm usually iffy about trying overpriced filipino food but this place is great--they have things on the menu that other filipino restaurants wouldn't usually have and even though they're much on the pricier side, it's nice to be able to splurge on filipino food once in a while. The flavor on everything was great and even had the "something sweet" to drink (not pictured). Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was also great. The chefs are AFRAID of SEASONING and FLAVOR in Purple Patch!! Lol I don't know what's up with this high overall rating, but it obviously reflects individuals who may not have much experience eating at restaurant's with high quality tasting food. I had a reservation for one of my friends birthday and the staff left a plaque on the table that said "Happy Birthday..." This was probably the best thing of the night. The menu has to be scanned with a QR code and a AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity is added to the bill, but we sat for about 10 minutes before out waitress came over. It was pretty packed inside and outside as this place is pretty popular lol. My friend ordered a frozen margarita and it was stiff as a board and tasted like a board; I'm sure it came out of one of those plastic machines that are continuously on, instead of being made by a bartender. When we finally had the chance to order we ordered the short rib, chicken curry, and a house salad. It looked good initially, but all of it, probably with the exception of the house salad had no flavor and they had the nerve to not have salt and pepper at the table! The short rib had so much potential as it was properly cooked, tendaaa, but the gravy it sat in and no flavor and life in it whatsoever. Yes, sometimes you need salt and pepper as a supplement, but the chefs didn't even give it anything to start with. And then what they have a nerve to call curry is disgrace! They're not talking about THE chicken curry, they must have named this dish after Stephen Curry- light skin... If I was blindfolded and asked to guess what was sitting in front of me there is 0% chance I would have guessed it was curry! Curry is made with a host of ingredients that leave the olfactory bulbs tingling for hours-ginger, cinnamon, bay leaf etc., but this had 0 flavor. I guess Purple Patch assumed by naming it chicken curry, it would be a psychosomatic response where people would actually taste it... Naw. Not me! Also, whatever part of the chicken they used for the meat was too much and irregular in size. You can put parsley on top of a dish for face but it DOES NOT hide the fact that this we ordered food isn't worth feeding to a vulture or another scavenger. And you know how usually the waiter(tress) comes over while your stuffing your mouth and asks, "How's everything?" We saw our waitress once during our hour their talking about how bad the food was with each other and begging an employee for some salt and pepper which didn't help. Then we had to get our check from another waiter because our waiter, an older white woman, just disappeared after finally taking our orders. Like we didn't see her after the other waiter brought us the bill, this is my PROBLEM with the automatic 20% gratuity. Then she had the never to ask if we wanted a box. I thought she meant do we wat another box to eat, because that's what we sat there and did. No, no box. Leave the food there and the plaque. This is washed Filipino food and they had a nerve to charge us $83!..... **Update the owner personally reached out and apologized and noted a number of existential crises that have contributed to her absence, but she assured me that she brought these issues up to her crew. She offered dinner on Purple Patch and refunded me for the order. Now that's own accountability works! read more

Went for brunch on a weekend. Reservation recommended! The food was good, but i want to try it again for dinner to determine if i'd truly go back here. Got the chicken adobo "hash" which was good but a bit too saucy for me. We also got the ube chicken & waffles which were good. The lumpia was SMALL. & the ube cocktail was ..interesting. I love Filipino food, but have only had it at family gatherings or local take out spots, so Purple Patch was an interesting experience. Fair warning-it was incredibly smoky inside. Have been hearing about the popular "purple (ube) stuff" served in this restaurant and finally gave it a try! I ordered Ube pandesal as starter and Ube chicken & waffle+ube ice cream, and a salad. All of them are great. The Ube pandesal is a bit like Chinese stuffed bun, except that it is purple and had mashed ube and cheese inside. This dish had two pandesals and each one was as large as my palm lol. The Ube chicken+waffle dish was even better. Super large portion, and I got syrup and coconut slices as sides. The fluffy waffle was made of ube, which went super well with the ube ice cream (the ice cream was not crazily sweet, so it combines well with the slightly salty waffle). For the chicken was fried in a unique way -- there is no cornmeal of flour outside -- what you get is two chicken wings which had crispy skin and tender meat inside. The restaurant, especially the patio, was not very clean. I hope next time I get there table and floor would be cleaner. read more

Disappointing. I'd been hoping to find a healthier alternative to the fast casual Filipino places my partner likes. We were four adults for a weekend dinner. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees. The portions were small, even the rice. We left hungry and went somewhere else for dessert. The food was fine but nothing special. Not enough flavor or spices. Of the seven dishes we ordered, not one person said, wow, this is good, have you tried this? Definitely avoid: The Crab Ginataang was a bowl of thin, bland coconut milk with spinach leaves floating on the top, more liquid than stew, and with very little crab meat. No ginger flavor at all. The Singkamas/mango salad had no mango in it and was mostly jicama with two thin slices of bell pepper and some carrot slivers. We asked the server about it and they said, that's the way it comes. (IDK but it was flavorless and without dressing or fruit of any kind) Maybe the kitchen was having a bad night, but I won't drop another $200 for a second try. Visiting from Chicago and was honestly surprised to find some good Filipino food in the DC area. We came in on a Friday during lent and was happy to see the variety of vegetarian options. This place is huge with plenty of outdoor seating and two levels. Upstairs there's a small shop selling some Filipino pastries, snacks, accessories and spirits/beers. This was by far one of the biggest menus I've seen and is perfect for a family style meal. I liked everything, the bihon was on the saltier side but the stand out dish was the escebeche-- whole fish! Pricing was reasonable. The only caveat I guess would be parking but walking around it seemed like this was close to a lot of cool bars in the area so walkable location if anything. Service was also amazing, food came out so fast and server was friendly enough to give some recommendations on our trip. read more

Purple Patch has been on my list for a while for their ube waffle and fried chicken. The waffle and scoop of ube ice cream were delicious, but the fried chicken was unfortunately bland. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but had no taste. It was fine once I poured maple syrup on it, but it looked so good, so it was a little disappointing that the taste fell short. My husband loves Filipino food, but we don't get to have it often. When searching for a place to take him for his birthday, without really searching specifically for Filipino food this came up on the algorithm! The morning of our reservation, I got a call to confirm and mentioned it was for a birthday and they made this cute sign! The food: 5/5 Fried pork belly- tender, juicy and flavorful Lumpia ( a classic)- light, crispy and authentic My husband had a sizzling dish that I can't remember the name of, but it had an egg, meat and potatoes, he loved it! I had the eggplant adobo bowl- rice, egg, eggplant, seasonings, etc etc! Absolutely delicious and filing. We were blown away by the flavors. I got porkbelly adobo, which is my preferred meat for adobo (chicken is great too). I opted for garlic rice with my adobo instead of plain white rice which in retrospect would've been better to balance out the saltiness. The dessert options were amazing (I do have a sweet tooth) and the tres leches was dense, moist, and delicious. The dessert options made me wish that Purple Patch would open a sister bakery/cafe to sell those. The service provided throughout was very pleasant. They checked up periodically without feeling intrusive and they were kind and helpful when talking to us. The ambiance definitely feels more American but that's to be expected to some degree from a restaurant in DC, especially since Purple Patch incorporates Filipino and American influences in its menu. Purple Patch is delicious but the "more traditional food" is different than what I'm used to in my opinion. This probably comes down to regional differences in preparing foods, regardless of how modified the recipes may be to better appeal to the American palate. This isn't a criticism but something I had to remind myself of when reviewing Purple Patch. I've nonetheless introduced it to several friends and it's an excellent entry point into Filipino cuisine for DMV foodies who are unfamiliar and want an excuse to go out for some good Filipino food. read more
