So many good reviews I thought long and hard before posting this one. Both my wife and I thought the server was rude. Maybe because we're not from around here, but they had that 20's or millennial chip on their shoulder that I really wanted to knock off. Specifically, my latte wasn't super hot and when I went back to kindly ask them to make it hot, she said she wouldn't do that because the almond milk would curdle. If the customer is always right, this is certainly the perfect example. I quipped back in a jovial manner that I've been steaming almond milk longer than she's been alive, and basically begged her to do so. By the third appeal I told her that I would accept whatever condition the almond milk turned out to be after being heated up. But she dug her heels in and said she would not make the drink hotter. She offered to add hot water, which she did. We're here all week and we won't be back, we're trying other places. I'm sure this place deserves the five star reviews it received from others, but they definitely deserved not more than three stars in this case, probably less. But I'm in a good mood! read more

Truly the most amazing coffee I've ever had. I normally get unflavored lattes and at any other place, I'd need to add sugar because the coffee tastes burnt! Not here!! I do love their flavored lattes too, especially the Cardigan. The cortado is a concentrated espresso/milk mixture which is also delicious! And if you order it to stay, you get some sparkling water to cleanse you palate. Even the basic coffee is good (I normally don't drink regular coffee). They provide a description of flavors present in the coffee and it actually tastes like the description! Head down to Lost Cabin later in the day to taste their Smokewagon beer which is made with Pure Bean coffee!! Love this place and their friendly staff! read more

Absolutely phenomenal. It's a blessing to find a true speciality coffee shop when I'm back visiting family in South Dakota. I was immediately impressed when I looked at their machine, I was blown away when I ordered a breve macchiato "a little wet. In between a macchiato and a cortado" and got the perfect wet macchiato, complete with a perfectly extracted ristretto shot and flawless micro-foam. I ended up talking coffee with these guys for fifteen minutes. They know their stuff! I truly couldn't be more impressed with this place. If you're the type of consumer that has strong opinions about the measuring of coffee using the volume versus weight technique and you'd love to have a conversation about the benefits of air roasting over barrel roasting, you've found the right place. If you want a sweet tasting coffee they happen to do that as well. I recommend the honey lavender latte. read more

I ordered a cappuccino, which was great, and a blueberry tart on the side. The blueberry tart was a weird combination of flavors (in a good way!). The space is also really interesting, it seems to be in a former creamery. It's a cool place to hang out, relax, and get a bit of work done. read more

We went several times and tried the French press, latte, and cold brew. The coffee is great and is strong but not too strong and the cold brew was sweet enough but not too sweet like at some places. read more

We stopped here on our way through rapid city. I avoid Starbucks at all costs so was happy to find this place. I ordered our iced caramel lattes and impulsively got 2 scones. The lattes were good but holy cow the scones. The horchata was good but the chocolate cardamom was amazing!! I stopped again today on our way back home just for this scone. BEST COFFEE ever! I had a cup of Pronghorn, and I have to tell you, in my 71 years, I have never had a cup like that. Unique: strong with a HINT of cranberry! I like my coffee plain--no vanilla or other garbage, but this was a trip to coffee heaven. Wish I could move you to California. read more

This review is for the Pure Bean Southwest location off Catron and Sheridan Lake Rd. I was in Rapid City for a family event and needed a coffee shop to work from. I tried a few, but Pure Bean really had some great coffee and a great staff. Hailey and her team made me feel welcome and provided a welcoming experience. I was happy to have some fantastically roasted selections and some alcoholic options when work was done. A legit coffee roaster and bar. I'll definitely come back when I am in the area. read more

As a native from Rapid City (I've lived in Texas for 17 years) I was so thrilled to find out that the sweet Creamery Mall was upcycling! But I was truly blown away when I walked into pure being. Everything about the space was incredible and so finally detailed. The furniture, the different levels, the area with the piano, the light fixtures, the signage... all awesome!! Great building, great atmosphere. The coffee was ok, nothing special and definitely not "third wave" or specialty by any means. The staff was sort of knowledgeable about their offerings and products but couldn't tell me more about the roast date or roast level of their coffee blends. Smooth, but nothing special. Got the impression from the man working that I didn't know what I was talking about and couldn't afford the hand made mug I was trying to buy. Left with a bag of their 605 blend, handmade mug and sticker. Wanted a pour over but could tell the man didn't want to go through the process pour over requires so I opted for the house blend from their batch brewer. Was happy to see a siphon pot but with the reaction I got from asking for pour over I didn't dare ask for a coffee brewed from the siphon. Local version of a Starbucks. Wished had more knowledgeable staff about single origin coffees and wished they had more of a selection. Will return for an espresso and to try out the food. read more
