I am so glad I joined pure barre!! With the pandemic going on I have been very cautious of my whereabouts and the studio makes sure to ensure safety to the fullest extent. I'm seeing results already and this is a great way to work your body if you are looking for high intensity and low impact workouts. Virtual classes are a plus too!

Got to love being the first to review and better yet when it's a five star review. First and foremost, I rolled into here looking and feeling like death. It had been a few weeks since I'd worked out regularly so I was in desperate need of some quivering thighs (get your head out of the gutter- I'm Referring to the Pure Barre kind, ya know, "lift and tuck"). This studio located on west Michigan Street just east of the canal and next door to the new-ish Marsh was exactly what unneeded. For staters, this crew was very welcoming and non-judgmental. Better yet, I felt like my classmates were down to earth in the "let's not take ourselves toooo seriously here" kind of way. My former Barre classes left me feeling 1.) like I was lost and actually in a pro ballet/tight butt committee meet-up - everyone was so serious that the studios lacked the communal feel I found elsewhere and 2.) I loved that at this new location the teacher corrected my terrible posture without making a big deal out of it (shout out to Lacy- she was top notch!). Whereas, elsewhere I felt like I was throwing off everyone's groove by doing the moves incorrectly. Last but not least, they currently have an opening deal of $99. I purchased the $89 opening package back in December and look forward to kicking butt with you all over the next few weeks (and beyond!).

Pure Barre is one of the most effective workouts I've ever found. Each class follows the same general pattern with a stretch, core work, arm work, thigh work, seat work, core again, and a final stretch. All of the instructors do a great job of keeping the workouts fresh and mixing it up every class. Everyone is willing to help you learn what it takes to become more comfortable and successful in class. I joined in January and have become a Lift, Tone, Burn loyalist because of the physical changes I've seen, as well as the welcoming group at the downtown Indy studio!

I have never been able to find a workout I can stick to. I also never thought i'd be willing to pay more than $50 for a gym membership. Here I am a year and a half later fully invested in Pure barre. I love it and I miss it when I can't get there for a few days. The instructors are amazing, fun, kind and helpful. The cost is worth it. If anything it forces me to go to make sure i'm getting my money's worth. I've seen better results with this than any other gym class or running miles upon miles. And it's a great way to meet new people too! I always see familiar faces in my classes and they do tons of fun social events! Just take a class and you'll be hooked!

Invoke has been such a blessing throughout this second pregnancy. Between the reformer classes and prenatal yoga, I feel physically better (and more prepared) than I did for my first kiddo.  I especially want to thank Rachel Weigler for the modifications she offers in her reformer classes. She is very knowledgeable in what to avoid/modifications, etc. for pregnant women and it's clear that other pregnant women have taken note as I often find that I am not the only pregnant individual in the intimate four person classes.  I'm two weeks out from baby #2 and grateful to know that "on the other side" there will be monthly "mama and me" yoga classes and postnatal pilates classes to get me back on track and feeling strong. I already have a note in the calendar to sign up once it gets closer. ;) Feeling incredibly lucky to have this studio walking distance from home in the Old Northside. PS: did I mention Mantis Massage operates under the same roof *and* that they offer prenatal massages? One stop shop!

I have been practicing yoga religiously for almost 18 months, but I had never experienced an outdoor yoga class. It was time! I'm so glad that my first outdoor yoga class was with Invoke, because the instructor who led us (Jill) was so amazing. She challenged us and encouraged us, and she also adjusted my poses a couple of times and it helped me a lot. One of the adjustments during savasana helped me to relax deeper and release the tension I was holding in my shoulders that I didn't even realize was there. The outdoor yoga class was held at the marina in Eagle Creek. It was a beautiful spot to gaze out onto the water and into the trees as we breathed deeply and moved our bodies. Be prepared to deal with some goose poop and ant hills, though. But that's part of being outdoors, right? We, the people with yoga mats, are invading the space of animals and wildlife -- we are the interlopers here. If you take an outdoor class, I suggest bringing a big towel to lay on the ground underneath your mat. It will help. After this class, I now want to practice outdoors more. It was so nice to be in a plank pose and see a roly poly wander near my mat, and gaze at the clouds while in sky archer pose. I also want to visit Invoke again (maybe during one of their indoor classes) because I felt so welcomed and left super smiley and centered.

I picked the candle hot yoga at 8pm because I wanted a soft feel but when I tell you this stretched me out I had such a great night sleep. I burned 362 calories in an hour. Make sure to bring a mat, towel, and water. They have available mats and towels for you to use. Such a great experience and the staff! Hot Room, Cold Welcome-…read more I was invited (key word) to a Pilates class here at the last minute. I live close by, so I figured, why not give it a whirl? I roll up at a rebellious 7:36 PM, since class started at 7:30, only to find the door locked up like they were hiding national secrets inside. Two women behind the counter looked at each other, then at me, like I was a raccoon trying to break into their trash cans. One slowly came over, cracked the door open just enough so that her body had enough room, she stood at the door and said, "For safety reasons, we can't let anyone in after 5 minutes." Mind you there is an entire lobby and boutique that I could have been invited into. I blinked. "Safety reasons?" She explained it was because of "the weights." Ma'am, it's Pilates, not a WWE SmackDown. If a stray 3-pound dumbbell is all that stands between me and bodily harm, maybe you should consider issuing helmets. I mentioned it was my first time. She gave me a pity "awww" and told me to come back Saturday. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town, but even if I wasn't, I wouldn't return. They treated me like a Jehovah's Witness at a front door: cracked entrance, fake smile, no eye contact. Girl, I'm not here to sell salvation. I just want to stretch. Also, tiny detail, but I'm 98 percent sure it's illegal to deadbolt the door of an open establishment. If the hot room gets a little too hot and catches fire, how exactly are the Pilates faithful escaping? Through interpretive dance? If they had simply welcomed me in, explained their policies like normal humans, and offered to help me reschedule, I'd probably be writing a very different review. Instead, I got passive aggressive doorkeeper energy. As someone who is literally a news personality, it took everything in me not to blast them on social media. But I try to wield my sword wisely. So here we are. On Yelp.

I was Pilates curious about a year and three months ago (hint: this is how long I've been with Era…read morePilates now), and was trying to decide which of the listed choices to try out. I was lucky that there was a manageable amount of options to choose from, and the reason why Era initially stood out to me was the individual and small capped class sizes. I remember when I first called, I was so nervous as I said I wasn't a "pilates" body. Mary, the owner, was the one who answered my call, and firmly told me everyone was welcomed to do pilates. I was still a little skeptical, but signed up for my first initial session and was paired with Hali. I remember being intimidated initially by all the apparatus, but Hali walked me through them with ease, but I also remember getting my butt thoroughly kicked by that session. As I enjoyed it, and wanted something physical to my routine, I told myself to give it six months before finding something else to do. It's quite obvious that I love Pilates, seeing how I'm past a year doing this. I have had Hali as my private instructor this entire time, and have faithfully been seeing her on a weekly basis, unless vacations or holidays pop up. From the time I started to now, I know there's a huge difference, one of the biggest being that I no longer have lower back pain. I know my core is stronger since I constantly engage it, nearly automatically, when doing other physical tasks. When I first started, roll ups were something I struggled with, and now, I am able to articulate going back down and up. Every session is a challenge, but I always leave it feeling stronger and taller. I can even say from this latest lesson, I know I've grown. Hali constantly pushes and challenges me, whether I want to or not. She does a great job breaking down what we are doing, to make sure I understand the what and the why. I also appreciate her hands-on approach to corrections and feedbacks, as it's the fastest way for me to understand and ensure that I align myself correctly. I had the opportunity to also take one of Valerie's group classes. While a different style, she was a great instructor providing verbal feedback and ensuring the class was a challenging one. I haven't had the opportunity to follow up with more classes with Valerie due to my schedule, but I hope to visit her sessions when I am able to. I love the vibes and space that Era provides and hope that I continue to practice with Era for a long time!
