I was Pilates curious about a year and three months ago (hint: this is how long I've been with Era Pilates now), and was trying to decide which of the listed choices to try out. I was lucky that there was a manageable amount of options to choose from, and the reason why Era initially stood out to me was the individual and small capped class sizes. I remember when I first called, I was so nervous as I said I wasn't a "pilates" body. Mary, the owner, was the one who answered my call, and firmly told me everyone was welcomed to do pilates. I was still a little skeptical, but signed up for my first initial session and was paired with Hali. I remember being intimidated initially by all the apparatus, but Hali walked me through them with ease, but I also remember getting my butt thoroughly kicked by that session. As I enjoyed it, and wanted something physical to my routine, I told myself to give it six months before finding something else to do. It's quite obvious that I love Pilates, seeing how I'm past a year doing this. I have had Hali as my private instructor this entire time, and have faithfully been seeing her on a weekly basis, unless vacations or holidays pop up. From the time I started to now, I know there's a huge difference, one of the biggest being that I no longer have lower back pain. I know my core is stronger since I constantly engage it, nearly automatically, when doing other physical tasks. When I first started, roll ups were something I struggled with, and now, I am able to articulate going back down and up. Every session is a challenge, but I always leave it feeling stronger and taller. I can even say from this latest lesson, I know I've grown. Hali constantly pushes and challenges me, whether I want to or not. She does a great job breaking down what we are doing, to make sure I understand the what and the why. I also appreciate her hands-on approach to corrections and feedbacks, as it's the fastest way for me to understand and ensure that I align myself correctly. I had the opportunity to also take one of Valerie's group classes. While a different style, she was a great instructor providing verbal feedback and ensuring the class was a challenging one. I haven't had the opportunity to follow up with more classes with Valerie due to my schedule, but I hope to visit her sessions when I am able to. I love the vibes and space that Era provides and hope that I continue to practice with Era for a long time! read more

Working with Mary has been such a positive experience during my pregnancy and postpartum journey. She helped me get ready for my birth, which ended up being an amazing birth that did not require drugs, and I was able to have a rapid birth and recover way much faster than my first birth. Now I don't know if that was exactly because of the Pilates and everything else around it but I will definitely say that Pilates definitely had a part in my positive birth and recovery experience. I can tell that I'm bouncing back faster from this second pregnancy than my first. Before starting with Era Pilates, I was feeling sluggish and feeling really weak in my core area. When I met Mary I can tell that she knew exactly what she was doing and exactly what my body was going through. She knew exactly what target muscles I needed to work on to get ready for birth. After giving birth successfully, Mary also helped me with my recovery phase in my postpartum journey and the best part was I could tell my my abs, my inner thighs and joints and everything was slowly coming back together. I even got confirmation that my diatasis recti was pretty much gone. After every workout, I felt like I was having an internal shake. Like my organs were sweating and to me that has always been a great sign of a good Pilates workout. There are times that I go to Pilates studios and it doesn't even feel like I did a work out and sometimes I question why bother going to Pilates next time? Mary's studio is 30 minutes away from me. It has been worth the drive every single time. We have been working together for over one year. To be exact 13 months before and after giving birth. I will say that Mary was a huge part of my pregnancy & postpartum journey. What I love about Mary is her dedication to Pilates goes without question. Her trained team and studio focuses 100% on the true classic of the true Pilates. You see other studios that have the trendy bling bling that surrounds the studio however, her studio is 100% Pilates. If you want to do Pilates you've got to go to her studio because she knows Pilates. She is the most dedicated Pilates instructor I've ever met and believe me I've had my share Pilates instructors in the last 10 years. I don't know where to begin- Pilates has been the greatest thing I've done outside my comfort zone in a minute. I've primarily done weight lifting 4-5 times a week and in January wanted to add some mobility. I've done group trio classes on Sunday's with Jocelyn primarily and it's basically a small class with personalized instructor. Each time I leave I feel revived and dead at the same time. I've also done a private class with Jocelyn and that's just when you go 1-on-1 and you focus on whatever you want- I focused on ass and abs and it was great. YES these classes are slightly more expensive than your general Pilates class but the instructors, owner Mary, and overall individualization is worth it. read more

I attended Era Pilates this evening for the first time and experienced THE BEST personal session ever! A mix of strengthening and stretching left me feeling so amazing and it was the perfect way to kick off the week. I think this was the first time I've ever had a personal workout session and it was so nice. I felt like I could ask questions as we progressed through the one hour class and Mary, the owner and instructor, was so nice and helpful! I feel so thankful that I've found Era Pilates but especially my instructor Rebecca Jacobson! Not only is she fun and just generally awesome to be around she is an absolutely AMAZING pilates instructor! I had been so bored with my fitness routine, and had always been intimidated by pilates. I decided to give Era a try and I'm SO glad that I did! Rebecca is kind and professional and listens to any and all concerns or hesitations you might have. She is incredibly knowledgeable and can accommodate for any limitations that you think you may have. Era Pilates is the best pilates studio in town!!! The space is inviting and comforting. Mary is the best instructor and one of the only people I trust in town! Over the past few months I have been going weekly and am in less pain. I struggle with chronic pelvic pain due to endometriosis. I had a tumor wrapped around my spinal cord and after having it removed I did months of PT to get back on my feet. The work I am doing with Mary is as helpful, and frankly probably more helpful, than the physical therapy I did. The work on the pilates reformer is gentle and tough all at the same time. Mary takes great care in creating a program for me that activates the various muscle groups and stretches things out in ways the help me move with more balance and greater confidence.
