Pure barre is little movements/ body weight work out that is inspired by ballet. This type of work out is perfect toning muscles. They classic barre class, cardio based barre (empower) and higher intensity barre (reform). I love Pure Barre Fairfax. I had been coming here for 2 years now. I can definitely see the changes in my body. I love the teachers at PB ffx. They are always motivating us to push our limits. They also walk around the class to fix our form, which is the best. Everyone that works here/ goes here are super friendly. You don't really see that from a lot of other studios. read more

I started coming to PB Fairfax in May this year, and it has been a great decision. With the variety of classes they offer, and the class times available throughout a week, I am able to schedule my workout needs and stay active, per my doctor's orders. I joined PB Fairfax in 2023, 2 months after moving from Louisiana. I joined because I was an avid member of a local barre studio back home and wanted to keep up with my normal routines to help cut back on the shock value of moving 1000 miles away from all Id ever known. I instantly felt comfortable and welcome by both staff and other members. The workouts themselves are intense and effective! I've built muscle and toned so much over the last year. I highly recommend PB Fairfax. read more

I love this studio. I have been coming for over a year and every workout is still a challenge. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

I've been working out at this studio since 2013 and I still love it. Many new formats have been added in that time, though the original classic class remains tough and effective. I was also going to another gym for strength training, but with the addition of Define, I can get that workout here and don't need multiple memberships. It's never boring, and it's still always challenging. The staff is wonderful, and I have made lasting friendships through this studio. read more

I have been coming to Pure Barre Fairfax since 2013. Great teachers and barre tenders. Love the community. I have made such good friends here which makes me look forward to working out even more. Awesome total body workout. Highly recommend! read more

I've been taking classes since the studio opened and it's the longest I've stuck with a particular workout. It's because of the various formats available. I can get cardio, stretching, strength, and the classic workout. And the community is supportive and I've made some great friends! The teachers are helpful and encouraging. All in all, a truly wonderful experience. read more

The studio in Fairfax was incredibly unprofessional. I signed up for an introductory class and they charged me without letting me know they charged my card and without confirming that it wasn't actually a free class. How could a studio advertise a free class online and then go back on their word and they say it's contingent upon a membership? RIDICULOUS. At a time like this where I would love to support a small business but they're taking advantage! Would NOT recommend. read more

Insane cancellation fee $20 -- even as loyal customer they still charge it.....sad..... Rules are fixed, but people are not. In the future, can the owner/manager work case by case and give loyal customer some flexibility? I am sure this way PBF will get more referral. read more

First time at @pure_barre and it's our favorite barre class so far! The intro class we tried the other week was slower pace while working on core and whole body. We were definitely shaking by the end. The cool part is that you could still workout while not sweating to get toned. You learn more from the class than the instructor which was interesting but she was there to help guide you to the right positions. Your first class is free and we tried the @purebarrefairfax location which had very friendly staff(: read more

Pure BarRe Fairfax is a well organized and professionally run studio. I joined in March 2023 and am glad I did. I highly recommend this location for engaging and challenging barre workouts. The instructors are quite amazing. read more

Honestly, I had no idea what Pure Barre was when I arrived for my first class. My friend reccomended it to me, and the company does an amazing job of letting you purchase classes/memberships online. This means, no one pressures you into memberships, and you don't have to arrive early to sign consent forms (all done online). Just a note about this location - it's in a newer shopping area, so it may be a little bit difficult to find. Although technically I don't think you are supposed to park right in front of the studio, I believe most of the students just do street parking out front. However, there's ample parking in the garage behind the studio. Upon arriving late to class (shame on me), the staff greeted me warmly, made sure I had socks on (they also have PB socks, which look pretty cool), let me put my bag in a cubby hole and off I went into class. I was simply amazed by the efficiency, and friendliness of the staff and the fellow students. I was pretty clumsy, but I didn't feel "judged" like in most gym environments. I was also enamoured that someone from the staff must have grabbed some barbells, a elastic thingy, and a balance ball for me - since I didn't know that was needed for class, I was very happy someone helped me out. So the class consisted of an awesome teacher who walked around the room, showing "ballet-like"/dance like moves, stretches, and so forth. There was a lot of focus on toning - the core and thighs - all good things. Side note - All of the students in my classes were women - and that's probably the norm. Some warm up work is done on the floor carpet (having worked out in a lot of places just on carpet, this one felt really clean). There are also some workout moves on a foam pad that students meticulously clean at the end. I'm a stickler for cleanliness and this establishment passes hands down. Anyhoo, I would definitely recommend this establishment to folks who wish to tone and sculpt with very low (no) impact. read more

This is my absolute favorite place for a great workout! Staff is amazing!! Such a hard work that's totally worth it. This is my 2nd year at that studio. Highly recommend read more

I just completed my fourth Pure Barre class this morning. I had never heard of this type of workout before last week. I am always up to trying a new type of workout and this is only 3 miles from my house - score! I am able to ride my bike there and am warmed up for the class. The studio is super friendly and since this is new to the area, everyone is mostly new to a Pure Barre class. The instructors are very welcoming and knowledgeable. The class is a combination of aerobics, yoga, Pilates and super concentrated isometric moves to work each muscle group to exhaustion. I know it has only been four classes, but I already seem to feel a difference in my body. This surprises me as I have been working out for years and this seems to be making a big difference from my normal routine. I am looking forward to seeing how it goes for the next month! I will update my review in a coupe of weeks when I have more classes under my belt. In the meantime, come in and try it! read more

Wow! Reading the reviews here there are a lot of similar experiences to mine. The front desk staff is not welcoming, they lock you out without informing you of that policy in advance. But the kicker for me was the cancellation policy which they clearly use to get money from people. I went to some investigating to try to resolve a charge dispute, and found out that Pure Barre studios are run and operated exclusively by the local owners - so they have NO accountability for their actions or the way they treat customers. Weird attitudes from the instructors aside, this location clearly uses their deceptive contract to get money from people unfairly. I enrolled in a trial membership to try barre while recovering from an injury. After deciding it wasn't for me I submitted a cancellation notice on 11/8/21, accepting that I would pay the month of November despite not taking any classes. The studio owner, Brooke, demanded that I also pay for the FULL month of December because I "did not give cancellation within 30 days notice" of the next billing cycle. It's ridiculous and simply unprincipled to demand people pay for 60 days of classes - despite not taking ANY classes within those 60 days - because of this cancellation "policy". When I tried to resolve with Brooke she was unreasonable and kept referencing her contract, clearly written to squeeze money out of people through this loophole. I even offered to pay a prorated amount, which she refused. Complete waste of time and money, and really sad how this business treats people who were actually willing to resolve things fairly. Really truly do not go here. read more

I've been going to the PB Fairfax studio for about two years, and it's been awesome! The workout is great, challenging and different every time. I love the new empower cardio class as well! The staff is so friendly and helpful and are always willing to answer questions and help with form. It does take probably about 5 classes to get into the flow of class and understand what muscle groups you're supposed to be working. I took a big break between my first and second years, and I can safely say the workout makes a difference. After my year off, I came back and did 3-5 classes a week for six months and was in the best shape of my life! Which was great, because I got pregnant and was able to keep going to class through almost my whole pregnancy. I'm 35 weeks today and still going, albeit makkng lots of adjustments and modifications as I get bigger and slower. I really credit pure Barre for keeping me active and limber through my pregnancy and helping me avoid some of the symptoms I've heard horror stories about! The only reason I give 4 stars is the cancelation policy on empower classes. I have a vip membership and pay the studio plenty per month, plus I buy retail items occasionally. I'm happy to do it because the classes are great and I truly see the value! However, a $20 cancelation fee if you don't give 12 hours notice -- whether the class is full or not -- is a little bit absurd. Almost makes me not want to sign up for those classes. I'm a small business owner as well and understand not wanting to lose money or get screwed over last minute, but the two hour window like normal class is more than enough! read more

Pure Barre Fairfax is an amazing workout with a wonderful community beside you.  It is the only workout I have been able to maintain consistently over the years and, along with diet, I've lost 20 pounds and become more toned than ever. The people are so friendly and supportive it makes you want to push yourself and get your best workout in. The classroom environment keeps you motivated and accountable, the teachers make sure you have your best form, and the music helps you just forget about everything else and get your self care on for 50 minutes. These people fraudulently charged us after we quit our membership. They have a purposely archaic membership process that makes it costly to leave or adjust your schedule. The classes are wonderful, teachers really good which is the only reason they get more than one star. However, the administration - not so much. So it cost me $159.00 a month, and they have clearly oversold this place on capacity. There is typically a "waiting list" that extends for classes more than a month out, or you can "text Maddie", so she can "get you in" spots she reserves for newbies. This is already annoying. Far too many hoops and way too much thinking to take a damn class. Then if you sign up for a class and God forbid, have a life and can't make it they CHARGE you again for missing a class you already paid for! What makes that even that worse, if you do cancel - say the morning of because something at work or home changed, they still CHARGE you if it is "less than 4 hours notice". This whole racket is set up for the convenience of PureBarre, not for the customers. I sent a text to Maddie to cancel, and the next month I was still charged. When I asked for my money back, I was informed that I have to send an email. So, I send the email, and then am told, please sign a DocuSign to "finalize" your cancellation. I'm so over it. Not only will I never go again, I will make sure to tell my friends, family, neighbors or anyone who asks to AVOID PureBarre and take classes somewhere where they actually treat customers like they are happy to have your business. read more

Ow, my everything! My thighs, my butt, my core, my arms -- it all hurts. Of course, I say that in the best way possible because the soreness that is radiating through my body is the result of my muscles being worked and worked and worked in the Pure Barre class that I took yesterday morning. And post-workout soreness is a "good" kind of hurt. First off, I have to admit that I'm not in the best shape right now, so I knew that this would be challening. But I have never tried a barre class before and was very interested in what it would be like. A Pure Barre workout consists of isometric body-weight resistance movements to work your muscles with very small, isolated movements. You will spend time holding your legs and arms up in a "V" formation to work your abs, pumping your arms an inch up and and inch down. You will spend time squatting on your tip toes while holding onto the ballet barre, tucking in your stomach and squeezing yo' butt. And you will FEEL THE BURN, my friends. My legs started shaking within just a minute of being on the barre. My core was screaming just minutes into the WARMUP. This is serious business, my friends, but if you're looking for an effective way to work your muscles for an hour, I think this is the way to do it! Our instructor, Tanya, was great, and given that A) it was my first class and B) I am an out of shape slob and basically can't do anything, was really great about giving me modifications and extra attention to help me throughout the class. The class is very fast paced, and mixes the movement sets with cool-downs throughout the class, so it makes it feel like the time is passing in segments rather than one long hour-long workout. Overall, I would definitely be interested in going back and doing more Pure Barre classes (after my muscles have recovered, of course!) as I think it was a super effective workout, and after just one class I'm sure I'll have a better handle on how the flow goes. However, I must admit, at $25 a class (less per class if you buy packages/bundles) the cost is admittedly prohibitive for me. I mean, I don't like workout for free, let alone paying an arm and a leg. But, that being said, if you find something that works for you... well, anyway, I guess we'll just have to see how long it takes me to recover from yesterday's monster workout, and we'll go from there! read more

The classes are pretty good, but not great. Not enough instruction, and usually the instructors are on auto-pilot. Out of 6 classes, only ONE time did an instructor actually engage me and SHOW me how to do something. I bought a Living Social deal, but once I use those up, I will not attend any more classes. The classes are so overpriced, it's not even funny. The biggest turn off is all the policies and restrictions. I just received an email stating class participants should not talk or show their midriffs. Neither of these are an issue for me, but I'm (technically) an adult. Not a high schooler, and I don't appreciate being micro managed, especially when I'm paying to be there. read more

Interesting, very interesting! More of a 3.5 star. A friend convinced me to get the living social deal for Pure Barre Fairfax. I had never heard of the concept before so i was intrigued to find out how this would be beneficial, so i gave it a shot. My first class was on a Saturday afternoon and it was offered by Emily. Mind you i am completely new to this, so i had no idea what to expect. Lets just say this course is not suited for beginners. The class began very quickly, with little direction. I was LOST! Emily's music was great, it really allowed you to get lost and not thinking about the difficulty of what you were doing. My troubles lied in the fact that i didn't know what some of the moves were and how to "tuck" properly. So i didn't find the movement beneficial. It was not illustrated per-say, so i had to just watch what others were doing and assume i was doing it correctly. The class was very challenging and it certainly burned during and after, but i think they need to work on the introductory piece of Pure Barre and the concept. I've been to two classes since as part of my deal, and am beginning to figure out how this is supposed to work. What i enjoyed during my second class is that the exercises were different from the first one. Each instructor gets to design their own workouts and that was cool! read more

Decided to try out Pure Barre Fairfax when Mirela T. and Saara Z. invited me to join them via a Living Social deal. Needed some accountability and motivation to get back in shape and not totally forego my resolution in the first month! I've been to Bar Method classes in Chicago previously, and this doesn't compare. While the studio was nice and the parking garage made things easy, our instructor (Emily) didn't give much instruction throughout, and I often found myself looking around the room trying to figure out where she was so that I could watch her and do the moves correctly. More often than not, I couldn't find her, and settled for watching some of the other people in class who looked like pros and were in my line of vision. I was a little less lost on the "tucking" because of my Bar Method classes, but it had been years, so a refresher would've been nice! I would've been really lost if I had never done a barre class before. The class itself had more arm and upper body work than Bar Method classes - lots of push ups, tricep work, and planks. Definitely felt it most in my shoulders and arms the day after! Though many of the moves were tough, the 60 minutes passed relatively quickly, and I can see why the routine can be addictive - challenging but not so tough that you feel totally demoralized after class. The studio itself was clean - they require you to wear socks and ask everyone to wipe down their equipment at the end, which I appreciated as a germaphobe. Signing up online is easy, although many classes are now totally full well in advance, so it's wise to sign up for your classes as early as possible. They have penalties for not cancelling a class you can't make before 90 minutes of the start time, though. I'll be back to finish up the remainder of my classes through the deal, but don't know that I would pay full price (and make the considerable drive from Arlington) otherwise. read more

"Meh, I've experienced better," is exactly how I feel about this place. Thanks for summing it up, Yelp star system. Basically, I wanted to workout while staying in Centreville for the weekend and decided to try this place out. The intro video they sent via email looked cool and the moves resembled the barre classes I enjoy at my local studio, Mind the Mat. Unfortunately, this just wasn't for me. The instructor turned on very loud music and though she was wearing a headset, it was impossible to understand what she was saying. I had to look around the room to figure out what to do almost every single time, and 55 minutes later I felt like I had barely worked out. Also, the carpeted floor threw me off, I feel like you'd be able to do more varied movements with a smoother surface. read more

I've been to this location three times now and don't really have anything to complain about! They are great about starting class on time, the instructors are professional, yet friendly, and the workout is pretty enjoyable! While barre is not a very strenuous exercise, I think it does exactly what it advertises. "Lift. Tone. Burn." More that that, the workout makes me feel really zen because of the repetition, music, and stretching. Pure Barre Fairfax is great! I just wish I lived closer! This whole review is caveated by the fact that I purchased a very reasonable package via livingsocial. At regular price, PB is - in my opinion - very over-priced. For the amount they charge you for ten classes, you may as well get a very high-end gym membership that comes with lots of frills. read more

I love this place! I'm honestly surprised by some of the negative reviews, because I know that they make the cancellation policies regarding no-shows to classes very clear from the outset... They are most definitely not "shady" about that. Anyway, yes, it is a pricy gym, but Pure Barre has been life-changing for me, and has helped me fall in love with fitness all over again! I came from a CrossFit background, but became unhappy with the way my body looked from regular CrossFit classes. I've been a member for about a month and a half now, and my body is already starting to lean out in the places where I had become bulky from lifting heavy weights. Also, I have no balance or coordination at all lol, and the atmosphere feels very inclusive for beginners. Super recommend. read more

Purebarre is the best workout I've ever had. I've battled with my weight for years. I've tried multiple home workouts and nothing compares to this studio. You are lifting, toning and burning with everyone around you. It's a fast 50 minutes of focusing on my body and pushing it to the max. I love that it's low impact and yet keeps your heart rate up the entire time(die fat die!). I am on my 3rd month and have lost 15lbs, with minor diet changes. I love all the Barretenders and how they will say "Nice flat back Mai", or "Awesome energy Mai". Those personal shoutouts definitely add purpose to my moves or help me hold a longer plank. The workout is always evolving too, unlimited fun ways to find that "magical shake". Indirect benefits I've noticed, my reflexes are much faster, i am more focus at work, and I sleep much better.
