My friend and I recently attended a Reformer 1/2 class with Nancy Bright and left feeling humiliated and embarrassed. She was aggressive and dismissive, especially toward students unfamiliar with classical pilates, but familiar with contemporary pilates, which she deems as "not real pilates." Instructions were not explained, and solely used terminology. When we didn't immediately understand, she scolded us, showed frustration, and PHYSICALLY FORCED our bodies into the positions she wanted. These positions were often uncomfortable and borderline painful, with no attempts or offers of modifications. She even made a remark that she knew she was "manhandling" us. Egregiously, when she was unhappy with my plank and was frustrated, I did not understand how she wanted me to fix it, she SLAPPED MY BUTT REPEATEDLY and repeated what she wanted me to do as if that would suddenly make me understand. She even admitted to slapping previous students' butts to "get their attention." As someone new to Pilates, I felt unsafe, embarrassed, and extremely humiliated. I had high expectations based on positive reviews, but this experience has left me so unsettled that I will not be returning.

I first gave it a try when I was in severe pain and almost couldn't walk. Carla had me work with Diane and she helped pop my pelvic bone back into place. I continued with private lessons and was amazed at how quickly my entire body strengthened, and more importantly how much better I felt performing everyday tasks with my brand new pilates body. Every instructor I've worked with at Studio Be is super knowledgable and focuses on what you (their client) needs. Classes are small enough that you get the proper attention from your trainer, which helps get great results. My posture has been amazing and the pain in my back is much less. Unlike a big corporate gym, this studio has a great atmosphere, it's clean, the ladies are fun, and it's a place you'll love to get your workout on at!

I love their staff and how hard they push their students to grow and dig a little deeper while still focusing on proper form. I love the wide variety of classes they offer and the fact that they have the occasional special and even offer some free classes on the plaza. I love that they hold community events and seem to genuinely care about their students. To be honest, I haven't ever found such a feeling of community at any of the other Pilates or Yoga studios I have been to. Fairfax is very lucky to have such a wonderful studio and I am very glad I stuck it out through that first barre class. Since then, I have had so much fun going through the intro equipment classes, getting to know different teachers, fine tuning movements, and getting pointers on how to take my practice to the next level. I have also thoroughly enjoyed taking advantage of the Dog Days of Summer package they offered in August and taking unlimited barre classes. A+

I have to say…read moreI am picky as a ballerina for 16 years of my life and not at all used to or interested in classic workout options like a gym membership I really struggle to keep motivation and interest and choose to invest in a work out that felt right for me. I also had some prior injuries like plantar fasciitis and shin splints from my dance career. I didn't like feeling the discomfort of cycling or just hitting the ground running. Pilates really helped me stretch and warm up my muscles and cool down at the end, and really challenge myself while also offering customizations in case you suffer from any injuries. Pilates is simply it for me. I started with the eight class a month membership which I believe is one of the cheaper options. I also qualified for the student rate highly suggest taking a vantage of this. If it applies to you within the last week I have upgraded to my unlimited membership so that I can continue to see progress and remain accountable to my Goals this year! I have encountered truly amazing instructors, smiling people in my classes with me great playlists to do cardio with and just a new way of feeling and looking at a work out. I have had zero negative experiences at the fair Oaks location. The crew of instructors are so attentive and educated in Pilates. I have to say when I first signed up, I was a little apprehensive and concerned about the waitlist option of course with Pilates there a certain equipment that takes up a lot of space so there is a cap per class and certain levels that are available to you as you continue to progress in your practice at times you can sign up for a class and not make it in and remain on the wait list. Not ideal, but completely work-around-able. If that's a word. The moment my classes are unlocked on the date of my pay. I quickly take to my planner and plan out for the next month so that way I have options and back ups and secure my spot as soon as possible. I would say I've only been on the waitlist a handful of times, and have already taken 50 classes. Thank you Club Pilates for that first free class that quickly jump started an obsession! If you are considering giving it a try, please do!

The coaches are super encouraging and do a great job guiding you through the slow, controlled movements that make Solidcore so effective. The Mosaic location is also a huge plus. There's ample parking in the garage, and it's free for a few hours, which makes getting in and out stress-free. After class, you're right in the heart of Mosaic District with tons of great spots to grab a smoothie, coffee, or a full meal--perfect for a post-workout reward. Highly recommend this location for both the workout and the convenient, lively atmosphere around it!

I love the coaches in the Mosaic location (I haven't been to other locations). I am a total beginner to pilates-like classes and the reformer machine. I took ~3 foundation classes to get started and I felt like the instructors were all so great at helping me improve my form to get the best workout possible. I feel pushed but not shamed into challenging myself. They sell towels and water if you happen to forget to bring either. I feel like a sweat a mild-moderate amount and I don't think a towel is absolutely necessary. Water is probably a good idea - but the class is pretty fast-paced so not a ton of time for water breaks anyway. Now that I'm hooked, I typically do ~2 classes/week. I like the early AM classes (but they fill up fast!). I feel like this gym is clean and compact. I get exactly what I need out of it. There aren't showers so plan accordingly if you have plans afterwards (it's a good sweat!) I like their Public Goods toiletries and have even bought some myself after using them at this gym. Awesome location, awesome coaches, and awesome workout :)!
