Brittany is awesome! Great energy, calls out what to do and shows us how to do it. Very positive and calls out your name with encouragement. The class will kick your ass. I've gone to one bar method and a barre3 class and neither of them were nearly this difficult. The waiting are is nice and large and they have a back area with lockers, cubbies and hooks for your coats. And that's where your weights, ball and bands are. There are two changing rooms with deodorant, dry shampoo, hair spray, mirror, qtips, and a small towel. There is one bathroom, i didn't use. There is a water dispenser but no towels if you sweat. And you must wear grip socks. Although there were some positions i had difficulty keeping my toes from sliding. If you want a hard workout, this is the class for you. Only reason it's not 5 stars is there are no amenities- no towel or showers and one of the two changing rooms had no light. read more

I came here for a free Foundations introductory class and it was my first time trying Pure Barre. In the past, I have done dance, jazz, and ballet. I received a reminder text on the day of, which noted that grip socks were required. I made sure to wear socks that provided that type of support and the ladies there accepted that without issue, which I really appreciated. The studio is really nice and clean. There were cubbies to put belongings, but I wasn't comfortable placing my purse out in the open like that, so I was given a key to put everything in a locker. Upon entering the class, we were shown where to pick up weights, and then free to choose where we wanted to be on the floor. The instructor, Carly was so sweet and personable. She introduced herself to everyone individually, and asked about any injuries. During the work out itself, we started on the floor, used the weights, then moved on to some exercises holding on to the bar. I think the moves on the bar were my favorite. It was all small movements, high intensity, low impact. Carly was excellent at explaining form and movements. She also came around and made adjustments to our form in an incredibly gentle way. I definitely had shaky legs at times, and felt the burn. I feel like I worked my legs and core the most. We ended with more floor work on our backs, with the final stretches being done in a darkened room. This class lasted a full hour, but actually felt like way less time, which is perhaps the best compliment I can give to a work out. I had a great time and loved the friendly, as well as accommodating staff. I'm not sure I will attend regularly, because $20+ per class is more than I want to pay. read more

I have been a fan of purre for a long time and have been attending class at the Williamsburg location regularly in the past, and became a loyal member because of the Williamsburg location. The last class I attended was back in 2020 before Covid. Ever since then, I have been trying to cancel my membership many times. And yet I am still being charged for $19.9 monthly payments up till today, in 2023, while I do not even live in the States anymore. The charge stop for a while, after I submit my cancelation by contacted the company in 2021, and then it mysteriously started charging me every month in 2022. There is no cancel option available on the website under user accounts, and no option for canceling membership or payment. There is no easy way to contact the administration to report this problem either. I am sorry if this review has brought inconvenience to users is looking for reviews for the performance of the instructors, and other things that are not related to ethics of the company. I always forget how hard barre is - as an avid CrossFitter I like to think I'm pretty in shape but barre is always a surprisingly tough workout on all the little muscles you don't normally work. Small movements instead of the big movements I usually do. Now, the only thing is I have prior been injured from barre - I really hurt my back from it several years ago and I'll definitely say it still did put some pressure on my lower back today too. That said, I told the instructor Shannon this before class and she was sooooo good about checking in with me and adjusting my form all of class. She was a terrific instructor. We did abs, planks, barre leg workouts, and arms. Definitely a solid burn! read more

I was introduced to Pure Barre Williamsburg via the Class Pass app and fell in love! It's a small but cute studio with one room, and they offer consistent classes throughout the whole day, (I even was shocked I was able to go in and "get my relivé on" on July 4th!) which is so convenient! The front desk and the instructors are all so wonderful, encouraging and friendly. I appreciate that the instructors memorize our names and call each client by name to encourage us and gently correct our form. The hands on approach really shows that they care we get the best workout! I also love that they're always switching up the routines and introducing new challenging moves! I would like to have more energizing hits and pumping songs in the music but the soundtrack usually is good. I admit I am a barre addict and I have been to several barre studios using ClassPass but Pure Barre is my go to- it's the only studio I bought a package with outside of ClassPass because I don't want to be limited in the number of times I can visit PB! Not going to lie... my first Barre class was very challenging for me. As I head towards my 40th class, I still find it very challenging! Which is a good thing. The instructors are all great - with clear, easy to understand instructions, very good hands on guidance and also super upbeat. All the things I need when Barre is kicking my butt! I love classes at Pure Barre. If you think having a background in ballet or yoga will make the classes easy then think again! I have always been athletic and have a dance background...my first few classes were so painful afterwards. Pure Barre provides a challenging class that tones your muscles. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the program's isometric and stabilizing movements sculpt and tone muscles you never knew you had. Shaking is part of the class, and after a few classes you learn to embrace the shake and find yourself able to just zone out. Instructors are motivating without being annoying. I leave class always feeling physically and mentally refreshed. I combine barre classes with trips to the gym, running, and swimming. I've found the classes to be great cross training. My only complaint is the price of classes. I would love to come more than once a week, but the price of an unlimited class package is crazy expensive. Pure Barre is a great workout. If you've visited before, you know what you are getting yourself into because it is always consistent and timed to perfection. When I came in for Adrianna's class it almost felt like I was in a room of robots. Everyone knows how to warm up and stretch prior to class because let's be honest, they can probably teach the class themselves given they've attended so many times. They know when to turn their mats and when to pick up their tube. And they know the exact warm up/stretch/ab/leg/plank routine because it is always the same. I didn't like that the class was so full, especially as a newbie. There was definitely space but being new to the class I could have used a bit more attention to what I was doing. Adrianna did a great job of making sure we were always in line and I give her a huge amount of credit given the size of the class. I haven't visited with other instructors but I can say you are in safe hands with her. I thought they could have a better changing room/locker room situation. It was so crowded over there especially in between classes I practically took my shoes outside to find space to put them on. They could also offer free water - given the class is $30 it seems ridiculous to not offer that. Overall it was a great workout and I look forward to visiting again given I've learned the fundamentals. read more

Pure Barre has been one of my favorite workout methods since 2009. I think this is a great class to integrate into your workout classes. I like to take three times a week! I do all sorts of other training (HIT, Cardio Circuits, Etc.) and this is a method I still love and keep coming back to. It compliments the other classes I take AND is also something I've taken five days a week and seen drastic results! This is a class where you come to get strength, confidence and better yourself! It keeps my arms toned and core strong. It's fast paced and everyone is so friendly! This space is beautiful with a wonderful retail area and the teachers make everyone feel so welcome! I was extremely nervous before my first Pure Barre class because I had never tried barre before and I don't have any experience in dance/ballet. I've now taken 2 classes via Classpass at the Williamsburg location and I'm so happy I took the plunge! The studio itself seems brand new and the staff is extremely welcoming. Both instructors (Adrianna and Allison) asked me about my hip injury (Labral tear) prior to class. Allison said that she actually had the same injury, which put me at ease. The workout itself is really challenging, although I have to admit it doesn't hold my interest like spinning does. Those squats at the ballet bar always have me wincing in pain! I'm immediately sore after class and remain sore for 2 days, but somehow I barely break a sweat during class! Some of the other reviews make this place sound really intimidating, but that hasn't been my experience at all, so definitely give it a try! I'm hooked! read more

I've done several barre classes before at Physique 57 and Equinox to name a few. I was excited to try Pure Barre because A) it's located below my apartment complex and B) its on ClassPass - yay! Checking in was seamless, both ladies at the front desk were friendly and took a few minute to explain the studio layout, etc. Studio is very nice, nearly brand new and the space is comforting. All the equipment was in good shape and there was plenty of room to lock up stuff or use a cubby. The class itself was pretty challenging, there were many times I had to take a quick break from the reps. My body is still pretty sore almost 48 hours later but in a good way - I really feel like I got work done. The instructor Adrianna was great, she came around and corrected my form a few times (which I think is very important no matter what level you are at) and knew me by name the first class I took. Music selection was good and there was plenty of stretching - I feel like I got a lot done in a little less than an hour. Only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that free towels would be nice (agreed with another reviewer) and there were a couple of times in the class I feel like the moves weren't doing anything at all/hard to tell what the aim of the movement was. Full disclosure: my first barre class. I have to say, my expectations weren't met. I definitely felt the workout, and two days later, I'm a little sore, but not enough to feel that I got all out of the 60 minutes that I could have. The studio is lovely - clean, bright, fresh - and the instructors are very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I honestly was just a bit bored. I practice yoga regularly, run outside when it's nice, and throw in a boot camp class here and there. This was just ... not very exciting. The music was too loud to hear the instructor at times, which I'm used to from boot camp classes, but I felt like it just didn't even match the exercises always. It was a little disorienting. Some of the movements were unique, but a lot of them just seemed like your gym class basics. So the most glaring issue for me was that I felt like I could just take all these exercises home with me after paying attention in one class and do them on my own to my own music rather than pay for the class. The final thing I'll note is that this studio is really lacking the type of community and warmth that most boutique fitness and yoga studios tend to have. read more

I started going to Pure Barre in January and go an average 4-5 days a week. I have noticed huge changes in my fitness, strength and body. I lost 2 pant sizes without changing my diet at all because the exercises are so effective. The instructors are all very helpful and positive. They are happy to see you when you come and always take the time to say hi and see how you're doing. Even though I've been going for awhile, I'm always challenged by the workouts because they're constantly changing. I started going to Pure Barre Williamsburg 2 months ago, this is my 3rd month! I LOVE IT, I wake up at 6 am every morning and commute 1 hr to take the 7:30 am class... I've never been so commited to any workout I ever tried... Its a very low impact workout but still you work every muscle on your body and get to know your body better, it helped me with my posture, my strength and I've lost some pounds too. I think all the instructors are good, friendly, polite and inspiring. Alisson always has a smile on her face and its kinda contagious... Even at 7:30 am. At your first class she'll walk you through the moves and even once it's not your first class anymore she'll help you adjust your body so that you are getting the most of your workout. I have now taken about 11-12 classes so far and I have to say I am really feeling and seeing results! I can't say that about all exercise classes I take. The instructors are all top notch... I'm a former ballerina, so I can't vouch for those who say they've never done a releve before - but this is like ten noches up on difficulty, strengthening and challenge than that of the 45 minutes of barre in a regular ballet class. So basically, no matter your background, these classes are seriously good. First, the studio is so great. The girls at the front desk are always lovely, present and ready to help with whatever you need, especially if it's getting you acquainted during your first class. It's a very peaceful environment - your stuff is safe in the electronic lockers they have, and if you're heading to work like I often do right after class, they have a stock of dry shampoo, hair spray, all those fun amenities etc. in their changing rooms (however, no showers). It also just has a really wonderful vibe that I always feel refreshed walking into; this studio is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. The classes themselves are generally similar to each other. It starts with a short cardio session, arms, planks, seat & upper thigh work, and abs. You really hit, and I mean HIT, each muscle group throughout the class. Your legs will shake, and you'll feel completely twisted in totally different positions, but you'll walk out feeling like you really treated your body to something good. I do personally wish there would be a little bit more cardio scattered between exercises to help me keep focused and loosen up, but that might be the dancer in me wanting to keep moving. It can feel a little slow at times, but that's when your muscles are really working, so I guess it all makes sense. I've been going for about 4 months through ClassPass, and I'll buy extra classes if I run out for the month because it really is so great. For non-dancers / pilates takers / etc, it might be a little confusing or wacky at the beginning (I was pre-professional for 15 years, and even my first class was insanely wobbly) but you will absolutely get the hang of it by continuing to go back. Don't get me wrong: the instructor was upbeat and the moves were certainly challenging (my legs were shaking!), but the workout overall left me feeling quite bored and disconnected. On the one hand, I think barre is good for working muscles you didn't know you had, but I don't find it mentally stimulating. I signed up for a morning class via ClassPass. The studio itself is quite nice since it's brand new. I felt like we were just going through a routine they repeat in all of the classes to the same type of music (a mix of top 40's music), and I checked out at times. I enjoy exercise in many forms, including yoga, aerial yoga, Zumba, bootcamp-style classes, strength training, etc., but I guess barre is just not my favorite. read more

Pure Barre is a great barre class and I like that they isolate parts (core, arms, legs, glutes). This is not a cardio exercise so if you are looking to get your sweat on, this isn't it! But it's great for building strength (hello 90 second plank!) and work little muscles in your arms and legs you didn't even know were there. I've been to PB in various cities and this one has a great changing/bathroom area that I appreciate. The workouts here don't vary quite as much as in other places (like Palo Alto), but they do the same type of routine so you can follow along and not get lost with changes all the time. Class is just about the only 50 minutes I get to myself on a daily basis and all the ladies at PB Williamsburg make it worthwhile. I've taken classes with the majority of not all of the instructors but frequently find myself in Kimmi, Sarah, Beth, and Reisa's classes as I'm a creature of habit and usually book the same times weekly without fail. I love that the choreo changes up regularly so just as I start to get used to a routine, I get hit with a new challenge. So, I had never tried barre class and really wanted to since I did ballet in high school and have always loved the idea of a class using some similar techniques. I purchased a deal off of Gilt for 5 classes to give it a go. First off, the Studio is really nice--it's clean and the girls at the front desk are quite friendly. Here is my issue with the classes--one, if it's your first class you're basically lost the whole time. The instruction is given so fast and only half of the room can see the teacher at all times. My first class was with Alex and there was no acknowledgement of the fact I had never taken the class before (although I was told she would come give me a quick rundown from the front desk lady) and I literally had no idea what I was doing. I spent most of the class trying to mimic the other people around me and by the end had spend 55 minutes teaching myself a whole bunch of nothing. If I had spent $33 on this class, I seriously would have been pissed. I came back a second time and took class with Jess. Jess, is by far the hardest teacher, but she's nice, approachable and takes the time to fix your posture and positioning if it is wrong and she's in your area. I could barely walk after her class, but I was excited to take it again. I took her class 2 more times in my Gilt package--and each time left feeling like I actually had worked my abs and legs. I also took one class with Christina, she is super friendly and takes the time to introduce herself individually to everyone before class. I super appreciated that. These classes can be really awkward if you're new at them and she immediately made it a comfortable environment. Her class was also a good workout. I think the difficulty here is that every teacher has a different style and they change it up quite frequently--so you're not always in the know for what you're getting yourself in for. There are no stages of advanced, beginner ect--so you can end up taking class for a week with different teachers that all focus primarily on your arms or thighs and then get no Ab work in. It's advertised as a full body workout, but it really depends on who you take class with. I think it's quite expensive and because it's so hit or miss with who you take class with and what the schedule is that week, I'm not sure it's worth the hefty price of $33. You can get personal, actual individualized training for that price some places--and you can spend a full barre class doing everything wrong and not get corrected if the teacher isn't facing your way. It's also very hard to get an evening appt, people book 2 weeks in advance (you can book up to a month in advance I think) so it was annoying that I was constantly on a waitlist until last minute when someone decided to cancel. If it was cheaper, I would probably go back and give it another try--but the ambiguity and lack of really individualized attention for that price point doesn't do it for me. I've been taking classes at this studio for over a month, and wanted to wait to write my review until now so that I could accurately report the benefits of the Pure Barre workout (as they pertain to me). First, a little about me: I love exercising, and love a variety of exercise to mix things up and keep my muscles guessing. I've regularly attended spinning, bootcamp, dance, pilates and yoga (hot and room temp.), and weight lifting classes. I've worked with trainers. And I've always aimed to exercise 3-5 days every week, no matter what my insane advertising job schedule demands. And even so, it's because of my 10+ year advertising career that I've developed serious back problems. Sitting at desks for hours on end, long days, and late nights have given me two extruding discs in my lower back which have left me physically incapacitated on more than one occasion. To make sure I don't experience another episode like that, and to attempt to get the discs back where they belong, I went through a rigorous physical therapy program which changed the way I sat, moved, and exercised. I needed a stabilizing workout that would help strengthen my core, hips, and glutes, to help improve my posture and take pressure off of my lower back and those problematic discs. That meant I couldn't do the bootcamp, lifting, and spinning classes I'd always loved. I needed a class that would help me develop those muscles to protect my lower back, but I still wanted a program that kept my body guessing and left me feeling fit, strong, and happy. And then Pure Barre came to the neighborhood. They say you'll see results after 10 classes, I saw a difference after two. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the program's isometric and stabilizing movements sculpt and tone muscles you never knew you had. You'll feel the burn and shake too, but stick with it, it's worth it. I've taken classes almost every morning for 30 days and not only am I stronger and more toned, the classes are varied slightly depending on the teacher, so it keeps my muscles guessing. Also, and most importantly, I have more range of motion and flexibility in my back than I've had in over a year. I have no more pain and stiffness, and the continuing change of my muscles and body keeps me coming back for more. Every teacher at the studio has been incredibly helpful and encouraging--helping me modify exercises in the beginning, that now I can do fully on my own. The owner, Becca, has helped me in my progress as well, and I feel like I have the entire Pure Barre Williamsburg team to thank for my newfound strength, flexibility, and pain-free lower back. I loved taking classes at this studio - extremely clean and they provide basic amenities like spray deodorant, moisturizer in case you forget yours at home. The lockers are the digi locks so you don't have to lug a clunky lock with you. The ladies teaching the classes are healthy and I really appreciate the positive body image they depict- you see toned arms, flexibility etc. The classes are intense - just when you are ready to drop the instructor says "let's kick it up a notch" because they know! If you've taken these classes you'll be familiar with comments like "You're stronger than you think" (you'd have to be) and "The shaking means it's working" More than once the class was given the option to stand to come to the center of the room and the whole class crawled. No one was ashamed. What I loved- the teachers correct your form regularly. You will improve immediately- I have done weight lifting, cross fit, boot camp, kicking boxing, ballet etc throughout my life and I was shocked by how difficult and effective Pure Barre has been for me. No workout I have done previously made these classes any easier- you have been warned! The classes change a bit all the time so you won't get used to them. It's highly recommended you get socks with grips on them- I picked up yoga socks via Ebay for $2-3 so worth it. I definitely got a better workout. You really want to cover your knees too. I heard of this site via a gilt promo and decided to sign up for 1 month of unlimited classes for the great rate of $150. I challenged myself to do 30 classes in 30 days. I didn't realize how painfully intense micro movement could be and with my crazy schedule a few times I had to do 2 classes in 1 day to make my goal. I did meet my goal and after the 40 classes I dropped 2 sizes, gained flexibility, strength and improved posture. Absolutely recommend Pure Barre esp if you are recovering from injuries like I am - I had surgery on my hand and still don't have full mobility. These classes are very low impact. You will improve, you will get better, it will not be easy. The best advice I received in Cross fit was "It will never get easier- you will get better" I find that true with Pure Barre. I did have a negative experience with one instructor and it was addressed immediately by the assistant manager- she helped me and spoke to the instructor. Things are always going to happen but addressing it immediately and effectively is how you run a business. read more

I'm been doing Pure Barre for a little over a year now and when I found out that they were opening a location just a few blocks from me, I was ecstatic. The convenience got me in the door but the cleanliness of the studio, the friendliness of the owner and teachers, and the awesome energy of each class has kept me coming back. I've had each of the six teachers and they are all great. They are excited to be there and happy to chat with each client. As for the workout, I think it's the best full body workout out there. It's extremely intense and I still feel sore after each class. Arms, abs, thighs, and your seat are all worked and it keeps everything nice and tight and toned. Love it here! read more
