Time to work out---the Pure Barre method
    Johanna B.

    1. Are you looking to get beach body ready? 2. Do you want to strengthen your core as well as muscles you've never used? 3. Does the idea of a fun class with a great instructor and music that includes the above two appeal to you? If you answered YES to all 3, then Pure Barre is worth checking out. An independently owned franchise, Pure Barre in FiDi was offering a free class to check out their method. Being a yoga practitioner only in terms of exercise, I decided to check it out. I spoke with Alexis on the phone and she instantly put me in the system allowing me to redeem the free class today at 1 p.m. Just 2 hours before class time! She was very helpful and it was a pleasure to meet her in person. She walked me through which props I needed and what to expect. The entire facility/space was immaculate and I was anxious to get started. FYI, I signed up for the Pure Barre Classic which was accommodating to newbies like me. Once I was settled in the spacious classroom, I met the instructor, Melissa who ran a few terms by me, and then we all got started. Melissa got things pumping and motivated every individual in that class. As this was my very first experience, I fell way behind everyone else and realized I need lots of core/muscle strengthening and reinforcement. Rome was not built in one day and I'm sure over time, everyone can benefit and reap the rewards of the Barre method. I'm still sticking with my yoga but will definitely ease into Pure Barre by taking more classes in the future. It is a total body workout. Consider it high intensity. I think I will treat myself to some chocolate later. I earned it :) Check it out.

Low-impact but high quality workout. Great class, my legs were two leaves shaking at some point. Looking forward to my next class.

Classes move fast with high reps that really make you feel the burn, targeting all major muscle groups in the upper body, lower body, glutes, and core. One thing I really like about Physique 57 is that the instructors do a good job of integrating rhythm/musicality into the exercises and maintaining an upbeat atmosphere throughout class. They're also great about providing individual attention and correcting form when necessary. In terms of the studio, I've visited all 3 studios in SoHo, UES, and NoMad. The NoMad location, which just opened a few months ago, is extremely new and by far the most gorgeous and spacious of the three!

I think they've been doing well with this and continuing to clean between classes. Masks no longer required in class. They've recently had a lot of new "deals" which is nice for regulars like myself. I really miss the annual unlimited, because I am paying so much more lately to take fewer classes. Thankfully, they're doing a summer three month unlimited -- I hope they continue something beyond that. More recently, I've been interacting with Brigid, their customer experience manager. I can really tell a difference in the quality of customer service since she's come on board -- she is very responsive and so pleasant, and she is extremely client oriented. For example, they transitioned from one fitness app to another to book classes, and it's been a problematic transition in so many ways. Not only did Brigid fix the issues, she also gave me some extra classes for the trouble. I finally feel valued for being a loyal client (there was a point in time when I wasn't feeling such a way). When there were some further issues, I reached out to her and she's been working through all of those issues with me. Can't say enough positive things about her. My only reason for dropping a star is that showers are still not back. I understood this immediately post pandemic (and they had to consolidate four studios' worth of belongings into one), but it's really difficult to schedule your day and get around the city without a shower option. I understand that times are tough, but class prices are higher than before, yet we also lack the amenities that we had before (showers, towels). Showers seem to be back at most other fitness studios. If the showers came back, I would definitely be more encouraged to take additional classes. The scheduling game is more of a challenge with this.

The workout is as easy or challenging as you make it, and modifications are always provided to make movements more accessible, with instructors providing detailed guidance on form. The mindfulness/breathwork section at the end of very class is also very rejuvenating. I usually take their Signature60 format, but enjoy taking the B3 Strength and Mindful Flow formats every now and then as well for some variety. The studio itself is beautiful and very spacious, with tall ceilings/windows and plants/cute decor displayed throughout that make the studio feel very cozy. I'm a perfectionist, so it's a nature of mine to be very picky when it comes to ballet class (I've tried so many in Manhattan but...). After the first one with her I can tell, she's so wonderful and professional and make the class well-organized. She put her heart into it, and it worth the time and paying. Every class I make progress. Tips from her are extremely helpful that in my weekend classes teacher can tell the difference. This is amazing!!! This place is highly recommend. And I'd like to add several points brought up by others: 1. 5th FL Yes, you need to walk all the way to 5F since there's no elevator. But 5 floors can't be a big deal to a dancer unless having injuries - If you are, better look for sth else till become strong enough to do ballet. 2. Neighborhood It's in a safe, pleasant neighborhood along Broadway St. Chinatown is large. Also as a common sense, not every place is dirty - There are a lot of "hidden treasures" around this area. Plus I have no problem walking along the street after class. 3. Classroom Having experienced a number of doom, slippery, compact rooms I really like this one: High ceilings, plenty of bare space, large mirrors, and wide windows with beautiful night view. Floor's nice, too, good for flat shoes, pointe shoes, and also socks. The best part is the atmosphere. Other than Tiekka is so enthusiastic and always selects the best music, everyone is friendly. Nobody will judge you, and everybody gets corrected during each session. You will love this place

From day one after trying it out via ClassPass- I was hooked. Although I kept my ClassPass membership to do other things (boxing, HITT, etc.) because I was nervous, I wouldn't stay in shape if I only did ballet. WELL, I WAS WRONG! I learned the more ballet you do, the more it works for you! I had an emergency surgery that required me to be off from all workouts for six weeks. When I was ready to exercise, my body was too fragile to take on anything that strained my body. My husband suggested only doing ballet for a month until I was back on my feet. Fast forward three months, and I'm only doing Everyday Ballet, and I'm in the BEST shape of my life. The best part is I love being there. I never have the tread of getting in the right mental place to go because it's so fun. Tiekka, the other instructors, they all have such a great passion for dance. You see it in their smiles and how they engage with the class. My only regret is I didn't become an unlimited ballet student sooner. GO! Get off Classpass and go 3-4 times a week, and you will be amazed by how you feel, physically, mentally, and spiritually. You get beautiful music to enjoy, a toned body, and ballet training from professional ballet dancers and a principal professional ballerina!!
