Took a reformer class here on a Saturday afternoon and it was a nice time! The overall studio is simple and clean. I took the stairs up to the 3rd fl but you can also take the elevator. My instructor was Jack W and he was diligent in complimenting peoples forms, remembering their names, and correcting forms. He also provided alternative moves if it felt intermediate to people. The class was manageable and not overly complicated. However, the reps will get you, PHEW! It's probably dependent on instructor, but Jack allowed a few late comers (~10 min late max). You're provided with wipes at the end to sanitize your station. There are 2 restrooms, a water station, and grippy socks for purchase. If you're early for class, there's a cute seating area. A simple locker area and shoe cubbies are available next to the seating area for your belongings. Simple, open space for this BK Pilates location, located right by Flatiron. Would overall return for another class! read more

Came here a few months ago. Wasn't greeted. Stood around for about 10 minutes before finally having to ask a fellow student where the lockers were located. Started the class, which is extremely low energy, and that's finally when the instructor, who talked incessantly & made cringeworthy trivial jokes, decided to check us in...as we're panting and trying to follow her mediocre instructions. Lo and behold, upon checking me in, I was told that I'd accidentally taken the experienced level class instead of the open reformer class that I'd booked. Maybe I'd have known that if there was adequate customer service to begin with and employees spoke above a decibel of 2. Yet I decided to give this studio a second go at their Flatiron location...big mistake. That class was even worse. I wouldn't bother wasting time with BK Pilates. Well my last review or reviews had been for classes with Sylvia O, a former instructor at the studio and a former instructor that I continue to work with this to this day. Luckily she landed at BK Pilates and I got to meet Marina who is a lovely, sweet, tough woman who has her own business and is a physical specimen if I don't say so myself. But don't be fooled by her beautiful demeanor, she will work you hard to the bone and you may think your arm exercises are over, but two minutes later you're back on the long ropes... Today was a perfect break between all the barre classes I've been taking and the intense leg focused TRX... I love Pilates because it lengthens and strengthens but it is not easy - so when I imply break, I mean just not burning out the muscles like doing barre work and cannot walk after; you lengthen them you strengthen them it's a different workout . No one should attempt reformer classes in MY opinion, especially at serious studios, unless you truly have taken a mat or three classes beforehand. Today's class hard & just two other people attended, so personalized attention! Hello??? It was so personalized and we all were chatting while we were working out it was a really relaxing environment I really appreciated that. A lot of times you don't even connect with the person standing right next to you, meanwhile all of us were chatting about this and that while we were working our abs or or biceps or our quads or our seat... The class went fast as per usual and I have to say Marina the owner is a pleasure to work with. Plus the playlist was on point! I feel like she could be my sister or my cousin- someone you can talk to who wants to know about your life, who actually cares, and she invests in you as a person not just a client. Today was a really good day and I look forward to more great days at BK Pilates. read more

took the reformer express class for my first time and thought that it wasn't as intense as i'd hoped it would be. i only took one pilates class before ( at a different place) so i was a complete beginner more or less, and i felt a bit lost- had to rely on my neighbors for help. i was expecting to be sore the next day but i didn't feel anything( don't know if i did the exercises wrong) overall, nice and clean space. aesthetically pleasing. will come back. read more

Great studio with warm, friendly instructors. The quality of the class can vary depending on who you get (took one class with Marina, the owner, through ClassPass and she was incredible) but for the most part you'll have a good workout regardless. The reformer is really what you make of it (so much fun and way more interesting than normal Pilates, in my opinion) and the instructor makes all the difference here. Classes are intimate (max 8 people) and once again, if you're lucky, there'll be a lot of hands on instruction. Less intense than I expected but good for the body in other ways I'm sure. The studio itself is cozy and clean, with a corner room for smaller classes and a giant open area of reformers for larger. Two bathrooms and both are pristine, but unfortunately no real locker room (a curtained section for changing instead). Prices are on par for most NYC fitness classes. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something new! read more

The teachers are good. The machines are a bit dirty between the cords. Hair on floor. I paid for a Groupon. I am crew. I live in Florida. I was 5 days late with an expiration. I was going to pay the $250 for the month for the unlimited it was a holiday and as she knows my dad passed away. But when I could not book my last one she said could not honor it for me. Who would not be angry? After she heard me start to get angry.. she said she could deduct it from the future payment. If she worded it different that before she said she could not honor it ... I would have done it. There are loads of Pilate places in the city. I have a car. Public transportation. My crash pad is 5 blocks away. She lost out and a long time customer. Because her girls are good. Really your going to Play with one session and loose business. Not to smart. Maybe that is why the classes are not full in BK. A market they need more business. read more

Small but very clean and modern studio. They have the allegro balanced body reformers, which are my favorite. I'm not sure if it was because of the time that went or because the studio is fairly new, but I ended up taking the Pilates level II class with just one other person. I went to my first class at BK Pilates last Friday, and had a great experience! There is both tower and reformer pilates here, which is great as I have zero experience with tower pilates. The instructor was helpful though, and I was at ease even though it was my first time doing it. There definitely seems to be a community here, where the instructor was on first name basis with most - if not all- of the people that were there taking class. There's one bathroom, and I heard that they are hoping to get another one going as well. The cubbies/lockers also can serve as a changing room if there is a need. Lots of different classes at all times on the schedule, and there are two rooms, one specifically for reformer that is smaller (I think there are six reformers) and another that has both tower and reformer that can fit more attendees. read more

BK Pilates is a solid choice for reformer Pilates. The breakdown: A challenging reformer class where you will feel sore for days. They used to be on 25th street inside a spa but recently moved to 23rd street in Jan 2018. The new place is gorgeous! My review will be based on this new studio and not the old one. I've been to several Pilates classes around the city and I keep coming back to BK! Pros: - Marina, the owner is friendly and helpful!! I love her classes too. She's my go-to every time! She pushes you in the best way possible. She also remembers you and chats with you in class so it's like taking a class with a friend...a friend that kicks your butt. - There are two bathrooms and areas to change - Very clean and new equipment - Great instructors! I've already sung my praises to Marina already but I also like Allison, Jamie and Tanya's classes. Routines are consistently different every time I go. - On ClassPass - Location is convenient for all train lines on 23rd street Cons: - No lockers with a lock. There are cubbies available and it's the honor system--but then again it's also NYC so leave your valuables at home. - No showers. Not a big deal for me personally because I live close to the flatiron location. But this is good to know if you plan on doing a morning class, sweat like a beast, and then need to head straight to work. The takeaway: - BK Pilates is consistently great and I highly recommend giving it a shot. There are some better instructors than others imo so try a few to see your fit. If you're a complete beginner to Pilates, I recommend going to a level 1 class with Jamie or go to Allison's classes because she's very smiley, funny and nurturing. I purchased ten classes from Gilt City because the studio is close to my office and I knew Pilates would be the thing to help me loosen up and feel strong again. Over the past month, I have taken classes with three different instructors (two Allisons and Tanya) and they were all great- nine classes in and the workout has been different every time, continuously challenging my body. The instructors have made adjustments but I don't find them to be super hands-on and the verbal cues are great. The studio is clean and relaxed and on-time so be ready to get started at class time! I am hooked on BK Pilates and already plan to buy more classes once my current package is up and try a private session. I've been going twice a week and find the classes to be the perfect antidote to sitting all day. Try them out- the classes are great, the environment is friendly and not intimidating and you will feel stronger and better in your body! read more

I was visiting NYC from Chicago and found this studio through the mind body. I booked a private session with an apprentice instructor, as that was all the studio had available. The studio itself is very nice with lots of equipment. My session left much to be desired, it was essentially run like a group scripted reformer session with no hands on adjustments and minimal verbal cues for adjustments. My instructor was very nice, but the session was not worth my time or $ ($5.00 less then a regular session price listed on MINDBODY).If I wanted a scripted non-individualized session, I would have booked a class and not a private session. When I booked, I was told the apprentice instructor was fully certified, but she just needed her hours. I do not recommend booking with an apprentice instructor for a private session if you want a individualized session. read more

In the past month, working out here as strengthened my core, improved my flexibility, and helped me balance my form. Rachel is a great instructor and I highly recommend her. Her instructions are easy to follow even as a beginner. The studio is small but has some changing areas and a couple of bathrooms. The equipment is clean and well-maintained. Marina, the owner & instructor is a pilates ROCKSTAR in my book. She motivates you to move beyond your preconceived notions of how strong you can be. Pushing you to go farther with each workout routine but never to the point that could cause injury. I like Alison's class at this location too. Lots of stretching & a great workout on a Monday night. I'm so glad to have an option in this neighborhood. FYI, no changing room or showers here, but the bathrooms adjacent to the studio are large enough to change in and out of your gear. I was super excited find out that my favorite studio in Brooklyn is opening another location. This Pilates studio is truly a unique gem in a middle of midtown. Because the studio shares it's space with a spa, the minute I walked through the door -- there was an immediate relief from the busy hustle of the city, exactly the change of the beat one would expect after a day at the office. Relaxing music, scent of burning candles, dimmed light.....perfect. The studio space is great - cozy, high ceilings, good equipment. The class was amazing, the instructor was great. She made sure that everyone was challenged but comfortable, she adjusted the resistance levels I ensure they were appropriate for our abilities (first place anyone has ever done that) Super effective workout. By far this is the best workout!!! I feel like I'm using muscles I didn't know I had, and every session feels like a new workout so I never get bored. Marina is a great instructor with amazing energy and personality!! A class can be completely full but you will always feel like you're the only student there as she makes sure to give everyone personal attention. The studio itself is really nice and has with all the latest equipment. The location is extremely convenient, being right by train. The Brooklyn location is also beautiful and has all the latest machines!! Both studios have a wide variety of class time, making it available to fit into just about anyone's schedule and being able to book classes online is also extremely helpful. Came here though an online deal and it has been a great experience. All of the instructors I encountered are all very knowledgeable and friendly. The facility is tucked behind a spa, don't let it throw you off. Its almost like a speakeasy of Pilates classes. Walk straight to the back and you will walk into an intimate room with 5 reformer machines, NY makes the best use of their spaces. All the machines are all in great condition, and cleaned after every class. They also have a number of different props the instructors incorporate to help better your Pilates experience. Instructors know what they are doing and they enjoy doing it. Another thing j appericate about the classes is that they will ask the class what they want to work on, so its almost like a customized class. Your body will feel the burn after every class! I was feeling super tired and drained before my reformer class at BK Pilates and wanting to cancel, but am SO so happy I got a second wind and took the class. Alison was the best instructor! So goofy and fun, but definitely knew what she was talking about. She even gave us tips about how to get free/discounted classes at other studios. I was kind of confused when I first walked in- the pilates room in the back of an aroma therapy shop. There are no lockers, just cubbies and rocks to hang your coat. So don't bring valuables if you don't have to! But I got a really safe vibe from the place, and there are only about 7 people in there at a time, as the classes are so small. read more

BK Pilates is one of the best pilates studios in the city. Every instructor here seems to really know their stuff and there's a level of consistency here that translates to everything from their customer service to the experience of each class. It really is much appreciated. There are a wide variety of classes to choose from, depending on your experience level, and classes are either an hour or 45 minutes. They also have great deals every so often so be sure to get on their mailing list. I want to especially S/O the Express Pilates class I took last week with Kasey R. She was easygoing in demeanor but the class she put together was effective and challenging. I was already sore from the a workout class from the day before, BUT her class left my inner thighs and derriere shaking and sore. Highly recommend her but the studio in general. Just an FYI: There are no showers at the studio, there are changing rooms at the front where you can keep your coats and bags and there's a big restroom close to the end of the studio. read more

Beautiful studio and looks like it's well maintained. I liked the set up of the cubbies and coat hooks. Now for the not so great - I took three classes with three different instructors and they were all great except for Jamie. She seemed to be frustrated when people were confused or did the wrong thing in her class. She did much fewer adjustments then the other instructors that i've had and her voice wasn't cheerful or upbeat at all. With plenty of pilates reformer options in the area I will unfortunately not be coming back. read more

Yunny knows how to challenge you to your max potential while providing hands on adjustments to ensure proper form. BK Pilates (specifically Allison's class) has quickly entered my Pilates rotation as I find it one of the best classes for Pilates on ClassPass. The classes I've attended have been entirely reformer-based, so no switching to cadillac halfway through like at Sal's or other studios. The closest comparison I can make is that the class cadence and instruction is similar to Body Evolutions and some of the New York Pilates classes (Level 2), and it's taught on the same white/grey reformers New York Pilates has. The classes are small and it usually has a semi-private feel, which I really like. The studio itself is small and clean with new equipment. it is in the back of a spa which can be a little confusing but works once you figure it out! I look forward to these classes whenever I can get in :) read more

Love this place. Everyone is nice and you get an insane work out. I've been going for two months now, and I can really see the difference in my body. From skinny-fat to lean and toned. I also noticed an improvement in my strength and stamina. I just started BK pilates about a month ago and it has by been one of the best studios I've been to in the city. I had been looking for a permanent pilates studio for awhile and BK pilates is definitely the place. It's a very cute studio that's in the back of a spa. The level 2 classes are such a great workout and are much more challenging than other pilates classes which is exactly what I was looking for. I felt sore the next day. I have taken classes with Marina and Elizabeth who are both very nice and awesome instructors. The instructors know exactly what they're doing and will give help/accommodate for any injuries. Never having been to a Pilates class, my friend and I decided to try it out. After one we easily decided to do the 10 class package. In comparison to the large yoga classes or fast pace spin classes, Pilates is a good 1 hour muscle work out that is also very calming. The studio is small. I have taken a couple of classes here through Class Pass and I enjoy the classes. I am new to reformer classes so I like that the classes concentrate a lot on technique. It's a challenging workout (harder than other reformer classes I have gone to) and I always feel like I got a solid workout when leaving class. It targets all muscles leaving you sore the next day (which I love). I also like how there are only 4 or 5 people in each class. My only complaints are that there has been a sub for the majority of classes I have been to and it's hard to book a class through Class Pass because they get reserved pretty quickly. While I don't care about who teaches the class, I would not feel confident in signing up for a class if I wanted to take a particular instructor's class. read more

I really wanted to like this studio, given how convenient the location is and how much I love pilates. I can only attend morning classes which is when Marina, the owner, is the instructor. It's obvious she knows what she's doing but I found her to be a pretty bad instructor. I went to 7 classes (part of a Gilt deal) in total and she was both a distracted AND distracting teacher in each class. She would often sit on the floor and check her phone for minutes at a time in the middle of class. Sometimes she would spend the whole hour speaking to a single person in the class while ignoring everyone else. She often expected you to start doing an exercise she hadn't bothered explaining (too distracted!). I found the whole experience to be rather dissatisfying and quite frustrating. I will stick with Sal Anthony's movement salon, which has substantially more options and more attentive instructors. read more
