When you want to step up your game, Solidcore is the right choice. There are many options, but with this workout focuses on some of the weakest areas of our bodies. Even with the most avid gym-goer (who does cardio and weights), Solidcore will take you to your next level. The workout: 50-minutes non-stop firing up your core and stability on a megaformer Pilates machine known colloquially as "Sweatlana." In the style of a typical "bootcamp" class, the instructor talks the entire time from the beginning of the class to the end. So, there isn't a "recovery" time built it. While you can take a break as you need it, the class is designed to take you to "second-stage muscle failure." In other words, to work that muscle until you are no longer able to. Within the first moments of class, you will already feel the soreness of your muscles working hard, a sign of results to come should you decide to continue forward in your journey with Solidcore. The attitude: If you are competitive with your classmates, this likely isn't the place for you. Everyone is on their own personal journey and everyone in this class supports one another in pushing their own limits to the furthest boundary possible. Ending the class with a high-five is the norm, and the only real competition is who can go slower and deeper into a move for a better, personal gain and getting closer to your goals. With a dark environment under a cool blue light, Solidcore provides a relaxed environment with an awesome playlist. You can't go wrong with most of the instructors, but I do have my favorites (Jacob, Sarah, and a few others). It's important to note that they do *not* have showers at any location, so don't expect to go straight to the office or to dinner without going home first, because more often than not you will be soaked head to toe in sweat after finishing a Solidcore class. Solidcore is a SOLID choice to amp up your core work, challenge your stability, and overall level up your workouts.

Thanks to Barbie making me go to the gym all the time, I have a pretty Solidcore these days. Very sexy little gym with a lot of hot young people coming here. I've only been inside once and I think it's good but it's not nearly extensive enough for me to keep my body looking the way it does on a regular basis.

Interesting workout in a nice space. The studio is brand new and well designed. As someone who was a college athlete and works out 6 days a week, I didn't find this to be "my thing." I barely sweated, and when I did, I think it's simply because they pump heat into the room. That being said, I am sore in a few new places. I wouldn't make this a regular workout, but fun when you wanna works some random muscles. The cost is even MORE than a normal nyc class at $40 a pop. Which is outrageous, especially considering the fact that they don't even have showers or a locker room!!! There are just two bathrooms with a sink and toilet. It was fun to try (for free during their first week), but I won't go back.

Truly, this place has become my sole workout spot in the city because it delivers results in less time so it's more bang for the buck. We as New Yorkers live very busy lives to say the least. Also, most of us want to look and feel great and stay healthy but don't want to spend all day having to do so. I learned that through a few weeks of Solidcore, this IS where it's at. I also enjoy techno, dim lighting, loud music, intense workouts and they have all this. Their merch is also super comfy and sexy on all body types. I have tired several instructors and while I have my faves, I think they are all really great. It's not for everyone. You have to crave intensity and you will have to work hardcore. You WILL SEE RESULTS! Instructors are highly motivating and easy to talk to.

I attended one of the preview classes here before the official opening with a couple of friends. My friend, who is a aficionado when it comes to workouts, was very excited for this class since it featured the megaformer machine that makes it possible to work on the slow twitch muscles of the core more effectively. The key component of the machine was a sliding surface where the resistance could be controlled with different combinations of springs. Springs were color coded to make it easy to know which ones to attach to the sliding surface during each routine. Several of the routines involved one part of the body being placed on the sliding surface and another part being placed on a stable surface located at one of the ends of the machine. The core was used to slowly slide the middle surface back and forth. All of the routines were done slowly and actually was more effective than doing the same motions quickly. In this way it was very low impact. Unlike other exercise studios the temperature in this one was noticeably warmer (but not hot like in hot yoga) probably to help loosen up joints. Lightning was black light and anyone wearing white glowed. The instructor was energetic, engaging and did a sufficient job in making his rounds to correct our form when necessary. He did a good job describing the movements to follow and showed us all of them at the start of class, but the format of the room made it difficult to show the movement as the students were on the machines. The room was mirrored which was helpful to look at more experienced students to copy. Playlist was upbeat although it was odd doing slow movements to it, but at the same time the beat could be used to pulse some of the movements. The workout did a good job of strengthening the core as the effects were felt there (but not in the extremities) for 3 days afterward just as was promised in the follow up email. It was a great change of pace compared to other workouts I've done and I'd be willing to return in the future.

Magda is a fantastic pilates instructor who truly cares about ensuring that everyone in her classes get a great workout that is suitable for their level. I discovered this studio through her online platform when studios were closed in NYC due to the pandemic, and have been taking group classes, privates, & duet sessions ever since. I've tried many other Pilates studios in NYC, and can say without a doubt that Magda's classes are the best if you're looking to strengthen your core, mobility, and overall fitness. I highly recommend for everybody - I've brought my best friend, my fiancé who had never done pilates before, my sister-in-law.. and now they don't go anywhere else. Also - don't sleep on the online platform on their website - the workouts are extremely effective yet doable. You get live feedback from an instructor who corrects your form. If you prefer live workouts (who doesn't?), the studio has a great variety of Pilates apparatus (reformers, Cadillac, chair, ladder).

The new studio she designed is stocked with brand new top-of-the-line equipment; Sylvia spared no expense and you can tell. From sleek reformers that turn into fuller towers with the addition of a panel, her classes now have no limitations. She thrives on creative moves, mixing things up and continuous learning and training. The studio is bright and airy, with almost floor to ceiling windows and just some plants in the window sills with props for working out everywhere else- there is no clutter or mess and it is all about pilates. You enter into a perfectly angled sitting area with a shoe & coat rack, and two curtained changing areas behind. There are socks for sale if needed (a must have as per studio policy), and a water cooler if you bring a bottle. I have been a student of Sylvia's for over 4 years and she has become a friend. She is a generous instructor, giving her all to her clients and not letting them slack- you do not go to her class to 'take it easy.' You go to get your ass kicked, and EVERYONE in class knows and wants that- prior experience necessary! Through class, Sylvia always makes sure the room temperature is comfortable, which is very unusual I find, but much appreciated. Obviously as you work out it gets warmer- most instructors never take this into consideration, and I think it shows a lack of awareness about their clients experience. Additionally she is hyper aware of everyone's injuries & limitations, as most clients are regulars- but if there is someone new, it is definitely the first question she asks...well, maybe after "you have done Pilates before, right?" With a giggle...... This too I find is not as common as it should be in other Studios and demonstrates to me even more the care she has for her clients well-being safety and overall health. Today was my first class and it will not be my last, we did a serious ab section, tons of quad and glute work, as well as a lot of work on our lats and our triceps. The hour flew by as it always does with Sylvia, and I was sorry to leave. I'm scheduled to come back already this week so I'm looking forward to getting my butt kicked once again! Glad you are back!

It doesn't have a particularly catchy color scheme, the most outstanding thing about it would probably be the exposed brick wall. The studio has super calm vibe, no music which sometimes combined with the super chill vibe made me very sleepy during class. The studio is not a trendy one at all, its clientele consists of a lot of older people who go there for private sessions and people who live around the neighborhood. But realistically speaking, if you are going to get an amazing workout who cares if celebrities and beautiful people are taking class with you. You do see the occasional Lululemonite but that also has to do with the fact that the studio is in the heart of Chelsea. The staff is super knowledgeable and most of them have been teaching Pilates for over a decade. My favorite instructor is Benjamin Oyzon who is a former dancer/burner who now teaches pilates while simultaneously sharing Burning Man and other festival stories. That might actually be the reason why I like taking his class so much. They only have 5 reformers so even if you take a group class it feels like a private because the instructor gives you a lot of personal attention. I only took reformer classes but they also offer Gyrotonic, Tower and Cadillac classes. In the studio they also have a lot of props (bumpy balls, blocks, rings, resistance bands, etc.) to help you position and align yourself for different movements. Overall I was very satisfied with my experience at Chelsea Movements. I took about 15 classes in the studio and definitely saw improvement in my body and posture. The no sweat factor was also a big motivator to take more class and I can confidently say that this is studio offers unpretentious Pilates, which in New York City is very rare. Most people at the studio are regulars which I think says a lot about the studio itself. I also learned that reformer is not just laying on a bed chilling and pulling a bunch of ropes, the class is HARD and the fact that you don't sweat doesn't mean you won't sweat your ass (or abs?) off.

There was one instructor that I had that I didn't feel paid enough attention to the movement of the class' bodies and that I noticed kept looking at the clock. This really bothered me because pilates is all about doing movements correctly, you can hurt yourself if you do things too incorrectly. Overall, I just had one bad class, which wasn't even that bad. I'm going to go back but stay with the instructors that I generally use.
