This is a review for Kinected's PT services. I have done many rounds of PTs in recent years. I am fully committed to exercise and do the PTs' prescribed exercises. Unfortunately, the 6 rounds of PT I have done w/other professionals in the past have been a waste of time. My Pilates instructor (who works at Kinected) recommended Elliot Fishbein very highly. While my partner was unemployed, I was unable to try him out, since he does not accept insurance. This year, I was fortunate to find the time and resources to work with Elliot. He has been instrumental in helping me live a mostly, relatively pain-free life. He started by making common sense recommendations regarding my supplements, medications, and exercise. Then he worked on getting my bones back into alignment. He gave me discrete but impactful exercises along with personalized videos. I started to see real improvement after just a few sessions. He has been the only bodywork specialist who has been able to help with some tough-to-heal areas of the body. Going to Kinected and being able to see Elliot have definitely been worth it. I feel very fortunate. The staff at Kinected are very professional, and they are very skilled at scheduling and processing superbills for insurance. read more

Can't recommend Kinected PT enough! Jinny McGivern completely Re-educated and re-connected my entire body. The other therapists I've seen treated the pain whereas Kinected focuses on the body in it's entirety to get to the source of the pain. I've felt better in 6 months with Ginny than 6 years with other therapists. read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! Fantastic for prenatal, if you're looking for a Pilates studio. :) Truly, I cannot even say enough good things about this studio!! I'm so glad to have found it and I'm borderline obsessed. Starting from my very first interaction, the front desk team was absolutely lovely and on top of everything. From rescheduling, to checking you in (somehow they know my name already!), to helping you figure out the right instructors for you. Honestly, they are exceptional. And the instructors couldn't be more incredible. Kristen B and Shira in particular are absolutely fantastic!!! Thoughtful, thorough, take time to explain everything, and laser-focused on good alignment and form. It's been nothing short of an outstanding experience from start to finish. I have just started Physical Therapy with Travis - and I can't begin to tell you what a difference it has made! I have had chronic issues for about 15 years - I have had MRIs, X-rays, seen specialist including orthopedists, sports medicine doctors, acupuncturist, and chiropractors. ALL with no results. After practicing Pilates at Kinected (the only thing that has helped me feel aligned) - My instructor (Benaldra - she is AMAZING!!!) said I should try their Physical Therapist. I made an appointment for the next day. Rather than just treating the pain - Travis listened to my history, performed a number of evaluations, and diagnosed that my problems with my shoulder, hip and jaw all stemmed from my spine. So we started there with alignment. After just ONE session I could feel my whole body moving more freely, and thing starting to sit where they should. I never thought I would be able to fix this. With all of the other Physical Therapist I have seen - they would treat each limb as it's own issue, and treated the pain - not the source. Here - you also get the WHOLE hour one on one with the Physical Therapist. At other places they just work on you for 10 minutes, show you an exercise and then pass you along to an assistant. I can not recommend them enough. I have been telling anyone that will listen, and who has suffered from chronic pain and feel that nothing has worked to go! read more

I saw a flyer at a running store advertising a runner-oriented pilates class at 8:30am the next morning. The flyer said to e-mail an RSVP, but I asked the guy at the counter if I could just RSVP there. He called Kinected and asked if there was still space in the class, and they said, "No need to RSVP- just show up tomorrow morning!" It was about 7pm. When I got there, no one was there, and no one picked up the phone! I live in Brooklyn, so it took me an hour to get there. I was livid. I had confirmed the class and my place in it only half a day earlier!! If there was a chance of it being canceled, they should have at least mentioned that over the phone. read more

I've done pilates at lots of studios in the city, and I've never walked out of a mat class feeling like crap, but I did after this one. I only took one mat class there, with one instructor, so I'm referring to this particular experience. Others may have taken classes there and felt it was fine, perhaps it's with another instructor. Here are a couple of things that made this a bad experience: 1. Liberal use of anatomical terms: I don't know about the other students in the class, but I had no formal education on anatomy and I've never taken a pilates class that requires me to know more than the basic terminology. For example, I know what "Gluteus maximus", "hamstrings", or "lumbar" are -- just the basic stuff. I think it would have been much better to use terms that the average individual understands. Jargon is confusing especially for new students (either to pilates or to this studio in particular), and during introductions, I knew there were 2 other students that were new to this studio in my class that day. 2. Unnecessary roughness: The instructor was overly forceful when she tried to correct my form. To make it clear, I don't mean that she was being tough on me/pushing me to do my best, I mean that she pressed hard into my stomach to "correct my form". She pressed down on my stomach so hard that it was painful (pain is entirely subjective, but for me it was at about level 6, moderate pain, on the pain rating scale), she also did this to my right rib cage. (p.s. I don't have a low threshold either, I've taken pretty serious falls while speeding on a bike and gotten back up on the bike moments later.) The highlight to all this is, she's actually an instructor to new pilates instructors! Our class was being observed by two new instructors, but I simply don't know how I feel about having her teach and influence future instructors. Kinected needs to reevaluate their instructors. read more

I visited as a physical therapy student and was extremely impressed. My previous exposure to pilates (not much, I'll admit), left me with a bad taste in my mouth and unsure of the clinical relevance...I thought maybe all those wacky machines were just for show. I'm so glad I was able to experience otherwise! Matt and the team at Kinected are very knowledgeable about how anatomy & kinesiology are related to pilates, both therapeutically and in terms of conditioning. This is so important, especially when it seems like many fitness "experts" are more focused on a specific exercise theory or practice than how the body actually works. I trust these guys, and they're down to earth to boot. Would love to come back for a class. read more

I love being a student at Kinected! An amazing space with amazing energy.

I took pilates+ with Jamie on a Friday. They were nice enough to accommodate me on the day-of, but the class itself was not that great. The instructor didn't really correct form and the workout was neither traditional nor contemporary pilates, but seemed to rather be just moving around with props on a mat. It is nice that mats are available at the studio for free (but they're also not as nice as the mats available for free at other studios, like re:ab or core pilates). Maybe I'll try the other mat class to see if that instructor is better. read more

Kinected has great energy.It is worth the trip from anywhere in the city. The instructors work well with your injuries and most of the instructors, if not all, are dancers or athletes.You are welcome here whatever your level.You do not have to be injured to come here. you will bring your sports to a new level, dancers and runners will be more limber, golfers more flexible. The instructors here have done great things for all kinds of athletes, open up/loosen up your back .Help in recovery for many injuries shoulders, knees, back and strengthen your core for everything! Since I was 18 I have suffered from spondylolisthesis. I have to strengthen my core and stretch everyday in order to function without discomfort. To facilitate this I do workouts at Kincected six days a week. You can be sure Matt and his entire staff will give you a thorough and comprehensive work out. The standards at Kincected are very high; and I am constantly impressed by the disciplined and thorough training every staff member receives. Leave your ego at home. read more

I am not a newbie to Pilates... I have been doing Pilates since I was 8 and am a retired dancer. Kinected is such a special place. The classes are designed very well... the instructors really know how to set you up to properly engage your muscles and stay within proper alignment, which gives you the most "bang for your buck" and prevents injuries. Everyone here truly knows what they're doing. I travel more than 30mins to get to the studio, even though there are at least 10 Pilates options within 10 blocks of my apartment. The real deal, which is getting harder and harder to find. read more

The entire studio was unheated in the middle of winter in 31 degree weather. (All heaters were cold to the touch.) Insane, dangerous, and exploitative. It's crazy that the studio owners think this is acceptable! Never coming back. read more

I love the reformer classes at Kinected. They're small (4 people max) and each class/instructor is a little different so you get to mix it up. It's a small studio and everyone is friendly. I'd never done Pilates before trying Kinected and now I'm hooked. read more

Truth be told, I've only been here for prenatal classes. That said, the instructors Stephanie and Dianne are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, and Kelci seems to know everyone who walks in the door. I've mostly gone for mat based classes due to my schedule, but the reformer class is also quite good. I always leave feeling better than when I went in. They're awesome! read more

This is a spectacular school run by mostly dancers and health professionals who focus on teaching body mechanics, core strengthening and in some cases, rehabilitation from injuries. I have been going for several weeks now to one of their Restorative Pilates instructors, Ashley. She is simply a magnificent and healing teacher, very professional and kind. The school uses reformers, machines, props, balls, and various objects to customize your body's balance, alignment, structure and especially core strength and focus. If you have any kind of neck, back or spinal problems, if you sit long hours at a computer and desk, if you are a dancer or actor and need work on your grace and movement, or if you carry heavy bags or laptop briefcases (hell, isn't this EVERY New Yorker??) then you can benefit from this school tremendously. It is expensive, however, but some amazing insurance plans will apparently cover it. Not mine. It's worth it anyway. read more

I'm a relative newbie to Pilates, so I can't compare it to other schools, but I have to say that Kinected got me hooked on Pilates. First, it's awesome because they offer great one-on-one deals with apprentice teachers, so you can try a couple sessions to see if you like Pilates without dropping hundreds of $. Second, the space is great -- the high ceilings really bring a great atmosphere. Third, everyone is so nice and welcoming -- the teachers learn your names, the staff welcomes you warmly every time you stop by -- it really makes you feel like you're part of a community. I only wish that they had later evening classes and/or early morning. read more

yo this place is the shit. they know everything and they are briliant and beautiful. i got certified to teach pilates here and i wish i could go back and relive that experience, like, yearly. it changed my life, and for the better. i recommend it for anyone who's interested in learning more about the body, their own body, how to talk to people, how to move, how to rehab, etc. etc. Kelly and her staff are incredibly gifted. thank you kane school! read more
