I checked the dynamic flow class with linnea on Tuesday at 7 PM. We introduced ourselves and shared where our heart, mind and body are that day. It was a nice icebreaker to get to know everyone. The class was not too intense but definitely strength exercises, breathing, and typical yoga moves. A great balance of everything. I haven't been to a yoga class in a couple years and I wasn't struggling. When you enter your right in the studio itself. Mats and anything you'll need is provided. I didn't use the bathroom, but I presume they have one. I'm not sure if I saw a water fountain so I would suggest bringing your own water bottle in case. read more

I love the Daya community. This studio (v cozy) and the one in Ridgewood (super spacious!) are my favorite places to go for yoga classes. I've taken classes from a few different instructors, and each one has left me feeling like a refreshed version of myself with deeper compassion and gave all the cells in my body a deep breath and big stretch of love. The pricing allows me to visit this studio more frequently, and they have many events and special classes- check their Instagram! Yoga mats, blocks, and blankets included in the class fee. This is what I think of when I think of a stereotypical yoga studio - and I mean that in a good way. Daya smells of incense, they have shrines, art, free tea, candles. It feels well worn and loved in a way the more polished studios in Manhattan haven't thus far, more like a community space than a money maker. The staff also went above and beyond for me. Long story short, I arrived late thinking my class started at a different time. The mistake was totally my fault but they just let me take the next class like it was no big deal, and chalked it up to me having a rough Monday. Really chill ladies, can't thank them enough. I am almost certain my instructors name was Carmelita or Carmen, I feel terrible for forgetting because she was so sweet to me but it's been a bit since my visit. She had a fun energy and kept the class lighthearted but relaxing. At the beginning of class they have everyone go around the room and introduce themselves and say a bit about why they're here or whatnot. Apparently this is something they're known for, and while it's not my jam it also gives the instructor an opportunity to learn about any injuries you may have (which I did), without filling out paperwork. They have a class called Theraputic Yoga which was the one I had intended to arrive for, that focuses less on pushing the body into poses and more on getting comfortable and healing. Extremely valuable resource to offer. While it turns out taking the bus to Bushwick from Queens in the winter is a decidedly un-zen experience, there's a good chance I'll be back once the weather cheers up because they were such great people, and it's a really great space. read more

This studio is straight up bushwick. No frills, just a relaxing spot with a wide variety of teachers and styles. Right now they're offering zoom classes and I highly recommend trying Kishor or Jayne. Kishor and Jess will give you a great, dynamic workout and stretch. Jayne is great at a straight up vinyasa flow. Like any studio, the teachers make the experience what it is and this studio has a WIDE variety of teaching styles- no brand norm. read more

Daya has a really great space with two rooms and a wide variety of classes and instructors. Their community classes two times per week are affordable. I can almost always work a good class into my own inconsistent schedule, so I really love that about it. I do wish there was some way to know which teachers spend a lot of time lecturing at the beginning of class, having everyone introduce themselves, or just getting right into a vigorous flow. It could be in their bios - "I like to share a lot of my own daily experiences and link them to yoga related concepts" or "I provide a strong workout and keep my commentary to a minimum." I know a lot of people seem to really like this studio, so I'll be giving it one more shot this week.... but I want to say that my first two experiences here (two different vinyasa-style classes taught by different instructors) weren't very good. First, the classes were clearly overbooked. It looked way crowded when I arrived for my class last Saturday afternoon, and when I asked a staff member whether there was room for me she said there would be some "rearrangement" which resulted in a really compact mat spacing for people in the back but, yes, room for me. I was between a standing fan and some shelves in the back, and I got kicked in the face during class. Second, the meditations at the beginning and end seemed to waste a lot of class time. For example, during my first class, the instructor announced she was hung over and asked everyone in that overbooked class (!!) to introduce themselves and talk about what they hoped to achieve during the day. (Well, I had been hoping to achieve some yoga flow.) Like I said, I'm giving it just one more try.... The studio is conveniently located for me, it's inexpensive, the space is homey and nice, and I'll have to be sure to get to class fifteen minutes early to avoid being too squished in the back near the shelves. read more

I went to a Yin Yoga class here and was a bit underwhelmed. Also, they charged me to use a yoga mat here (only $2), but I've still never been to a yoga studio that does that before. I wanted a gentle yoga class to ease me into my newfound workout goals, so I thought this class would be a good start. Overall, very chill vibes and small class size, so that was nice too. The yin yoga class is all about the breath, and meditation, more than the vinyasa which is more active. It was really relaxing, and we had our eyes closed for most of the class, but several times when I opened my eyes, the instructor was reading out loud from a book. Then she would set the book down, get in a seated pose, and we'd all open our eyes, and she would act like it was nothing. So odd. Anyway, this instructor/class just wasn't for me I think. Other people seem to love it here so perhaps a different combo would work better. read more

Really disappointed in the lack of care and service coming from this studio. I purchased an unlimited month and very quickly (a day later) asked for a refund, kindly, due to the extremely limited classes available. I understand it's virtual. I understand it's a pandemic. But there were zero classes offered for a few days, and I just quite honestly couldn't justify the commitment for $79 based on what was offered. I never attended a class. When I asked for a refund they just simply ignored me, lol. I would have appreciated a response at the very least. This used to be my favorite go-to studio in BK. This studio reminded me of studios I've visited in Western Massachusetts and Vermont. Definitely a more casual hippy vibe going on than the "burpees namaste" style sculpt classes that have become popular in some studios. It has a large, open air room and the place is very casual. I even attended class where the instructor taught while *wearing* her baby the whole time! There were other classes where people were sitting in the curtained off waiting area just chillin', I guess. They also host workshops on things like, "opening your throat chakra" and everyone sits in an intimate circle. So, if that kind of stuff weirds you out, this may not be the place for you. Personally, I suggest giving the studio a chance. The staff seems diverse enough that you might end up finding the perfect teacher/class for you! read more

I've had the opportunity to try a lot of yoga studios this year, particularly in the north brooklyn area. Daya has undoubtedly been my favorite. It has a great community vibe, and offers a more meaningful yoga experience, without trying too hard--and this is from someone who used to prefer classes without any touchy-feely elements. I've really enjoyed the restorative classes there, including the Yin class, which is always packed. At the start of that one, everybody introduces themselves and talks about why they came to class. I've never sought out that kind of practice, but it just feels right the way they do it; knowing how others approach the experience has enhanced mine. This class definitely isn't a workout, but you feel incredible after it, particuarly if you are tight from other excercises. The theraputic classes I have done are also great. They have been more taxing and strenous than the Yin classes--this is not a class to just come in and do some relaxing stretches--but I have felt so good after them. Their new student offers are as good as any place else, which is a nice way to get your feet wet. Also, the studio is super close to the L stop, which is nice. And, while I haven't attended them yet, they offer some other cool programs I want to try. read more

Daya has everything you would want in a yoga studio. Well, at least as far as I am concerned. They have a really great variety of classes, and I think thats one of my favorite things about it. Not only do they have the regular vinyasa flow, beginners and relaxing Yin classes, but they more hard to find options like Kundalini, Hatha, Theraputic, Kripalu, and Power Yoga. For someone who craves variety, this is perfect. But in the weeks when I want to focus on one style, I can easily fill up my week with just those classes. Another thing I love is the treachers. They are all kind, knowledable and accepting. I never feel judgement from them when I can't do a pose or have to take a break. And as someone who has never been athletic and never been very flexible, I really love that. They always seem to know exactly what I should fix in my pose to make it easier for my body or more correct. The teachers frequently offer suggestions for easier versions of poses and are very eager to suggest props. My favorite teachers/classes are: Vinyasa with Kiersten or Lisette, Yin with Kiersten or Yves, and Hatha with William. The feel and look of the studios themselves are perfect for practicing yoga or meditation. Tons of natural light, plants, soft lighting, candles, altars, and sometimes incense. I also have to mention the fact that Daya is really more than a yoga studio. They offer workshops on Thai message, theraputic yoga, astrology, Cacao, tarot, Reiki and more. Oh and alot of free events too like the psychic fairs and clothing swaps. They have such a great community there and I always feel so welcome when I come to class. I highly recommend this place, and even if you don't make it your home studio, its great to experience the vibe here. read more

I've had some really great experiences here with some really really amazing and wise teachers. I hate to be negative, but the instructor Kevin Tobar is probably the worst yoga instructor I have ever had. Seemed very distant from the practice the entire time, kind of had a twangy attitude about his voice, didn't guide students at all through the motions, and was inappropriately flirting with another guy that was in his class while I was there (and by that I mean only fixing HIS positions the entire time). Made me feel really uncomfortable. I've gotten this same feedback from friends that have gone to his class too, so I know I am not alone here. Aside from his class, everyone else has been amazing and friendly, as mentioned. The space has a really great vibe to it too. Would definitely recommend!! read more

Awesome yoga studio with many excellent teachers. Have seen a huge improvement in my practice by regularly attending classes at Daya. My body is literally improving every day - getting leaner, maintaining better posture, flexibility and breathing, and my mind is so much clearer. They have a solid schedule with a variety of classes throughout the day. I recommend trying a variety of classes to find your favorite teachers and styles. Only negative would be that some classes can get very crowded which can limit your range of motion. read more

Had my first class at this studio last night for candlelit yoga. It was AH MA ZING. The studio was a bit hard to find, since that street has yet to be taken over by hipster business owners, so it's pretty much one of maybe three businesses there. But once you walk up to the building you can't miss the Daya logo plastered on the building wall. I was panicking on my way here because my phone died, I missed my bus, and I had 15 mins to speed walk to class in the freezing winter cold. So, yeah, I kind of needed this. I arrived exactly when the class started and lucky for me everyone was just starting to settle in. My immediate impression was how the loft space is divided into two. The check in desk, shoe cubby, and coat racks are up front and behind floor to ceiling curtains is the yoga space. I was worried a lot of noise in the reception area would carry over but once class started everyone cleared out there and there wasn't even a peep. The class was gentle, relaxing, freeing, just perfect. It also smelled wonderful, like lavender. This intro class was exactly what I needed. I'm back again tomorrow. How does this place only have NINE reviews??? Okay I need to rectify that. Why I started going: I've been coming to Daya since January 2016, so that's nearly 6 months straight for 1-2 times a week. I started coming here because it was 4 blocks from my previous apartment and one of the yoga teachers is one my classmates in school and she's pretty much an amazing person. Now let me preface this review with this: I am telling you about this place from the perspective of a person that barely works out, that has little to no connection with their "spiritual" side (and is not particularly inclined to do so), and experiences some moderate anxiety in group fitness classes. So if you're my variety of strange, this review is for you. - yogi stuff (skip if you wish) - I began coming to Daya during one of the most stressful periods of my life. I came here every Sunday morning like clockwork for almost six months. The practice of yoga at this studio with these teachers transformed my understanding of my body and my body's responses to daily stress. I have taken classes with many of the teachers in this studio and I have found that the common thread running through the teachers is an understanding that the body practicing yoga cannot be separated from the mind or the spirit. That relationship between body, mind and spirit informs the structure and approach the teachers have. Daya, and its teachers honor the interplay between all these parts of who you are and work to highlight, challenge and accept wherever you are when you step in the studio. So yeah, I just went a little hippy on you but trust me you'll get it when you go. - yogi stuff over - I would love to give you a detailed summary of what every class is like but I can't. The teachers are very receptive to the needs of the students and tailor their classes. What I can tell you is the outcome of my practice since January: I gained a great deal of flexibility, strength, improved my posture, lost weight, eat healthier, stress less, and started meditating. I challenge myself a little more every class and I absolutely love it. I highly suggest Sunday morning classes with Maggie for a wake up and take on the week class. For a my spirit and body isn't right and I need to get it together class take Meghan's class with live music. For I need to find out where is my mind class take Liz's class. As a former bartender, I never write yelp reviews - but this is a wonderful studio. Took my first class here today and it was totally unique from any class I've taken. In addition to teachers who really teach, the studio is spacious and airy, with blocks, blankets, and pillows to use during your practice - and even a lavender spray and clean towels to wipe down your mat. I really wanted to expand into some breath work, work on my form, and get out of my head somewhere that had soul but wasn't just spewing empty rhetoric - this place is it. Authentic, welcoming, clean, and adorned really beautifully with altars and instruments. Absolutely recommend and it's $50 for an unlimited 4 weeks which is a total steal. read more

In the month that I practiced at Daya, it quickly became my favorite yoga studio. I enjoyed every single teacher that I had, they are committed to providing yoga in a diverse and safe environment, they make it a space where you can practice freely and not only do they make sure you get a good work out, more importantly, they get that yoga is used as a tool for growth, relaxing, and just feeling better by the end of a class. They have fun! I was able to get 4 weeks of yoga for $40, which is an amazing deal. Many of the other studios in the area have the same deal. I mostly took evening classes, vinyasa, lunar vinyasa, candlelight lunar yoga with live music (highly recommend) and yin yoga. All of these classes were great! I did take one inversion workshop and a Hatha class. Each class is opened by going around the room, introducing yourself and saying how your day was or what you looking for. They also ask if you have injuries, which is important. Across the board, the classes start slowly with some deep breathing and warming up the breath but they do speed up. I liked how each teacher tried to focus on something, whether that be the core or grounding. It showed that the teachers and classes were diverse in their practice and was never bored, even after going to a class with the same teacher five times. I recommend the Hatha class. That was so challenging but I felt like my practice improved imensly after that class. I didn't get to go to a class with every teacher, but my favorite teachers were Carmina, Linnea, Kiersten, Lisette, Kevin, and Ania. I am sure all the other teachers are great too. Located on Jefferson, Daya takes up a warehouse space, which is huge. There is a seating area, where you can take off your shoes, check-in, get some water, or just chill until your next class. There is always tea and water available. The first studio, along with being for class, is also used as an office and little shop filled with holistic goods. The area where the class takes place is great with a shrine, plants, singing bowls, etc. There are plenty of props and you can rent a mat for $2. The bathroom is also located in this space. The second studio is way bigger and is where mats are stored, there is a bathroom, piano, plants, etc. Daya also seconds as an acupuncture clinic but this is separate from the yoga. If I didn't move, I would definitely get a membership to Daya! read more

Absolutely love this place... DAYA, the space that enlightened me to start a practice & give yoga a chance. Yoga is definitely a investment of time and money, but Daya made it worth it everytime. The instructors are sweet, welcoming, and amazing to practice and talk too. Unfortunately, i haven't been in a while and I can say that my thoughts and good vibes are always sent to Daya. I speak to many about how awesome it is here. They are professional and willing to realign as well as give space to learn each movement yourself. I feel a added bonus as I always left with a insight to my spiritual, emotional & personal self. This studio is beautiful. They did a really amazing job at paying attention to the details and turning a warehouse into a zen paradise. I usually practice Vinyasa, so Ashtanga yoga was a little new to me, but the instructor was great at explaining and cuing you up for the next move. I took a Power Yoga class, but it felt more of a nice relaxing class to me -- maybe that's the style of Ashtanga though. Really great power moves and gearing you up to achieve more advanced postures though. The mats they have to borrow are a little slippery, so I'd recommend bringing your own. This place is on ClassPass and near home so probably add it to my rotation now. :) read more

Hands down my favorite yoga studio! I am bi-costal and go to this studio any chance I get when I am in New York. Most yoga studios feel like McDonalds/Walmarts of yoga, Daya feels like true yoga. If you are looking for a workout class take a workout class, if you want yoga come here. I always leave the studio feeling better than when I walked in. My only complaint is sometimes the classes are a bit crowded, other than that it is pure magic! read more

Recently they have have been overbooking the space they have. The last four classes I have had at Daya have had more than 21 people in the front room. It sits 18 comfortably. Because students are moving and accommodating late comers, we have been skipping check ins. Which I believe is what makes Daya special. Hopefully management caps classes at 20 or stops late comers from ruining the experience. Also, I wish the instructors were slightly more hands on. I have been practicing her for two months, and I have never had an instructor correct my posture. read more

I started coming here after purchasing an unlimited monthly intro package. Though I enjoyed some classes more than others, I did not love the place overall. I am not a fan of music being played during my yoga sessions, nor do I like being in very dark rooms when I practice. Everyone here is very nice and welcoming, as can be expected from any yoga studio, but going around the entire room and introducing ourselves and checking in at the beginning of every class, was not something I felt necessary for my practice. At the cost of sounding racist, there was definitely an overall "white girl" vibe to my experience here. Not bad, not great, definitely not for me. read more

I am officially addicted. I cannot get enough... The teachers are so wonderful and inspirational and inclusive. I hesitated writing a review for Daya Yoga because I love the studio so much I don't want it to blow up and get too crowded. But now that I've overcome my selfishness, I have to say how wonderful this place is. A wide range of class styles with exceptional teachers, who seem to truly care about your benefit and what you can take home from this practice. Every class I have attended has successfully placated me back into a calm physical and mental space. I always leave glowing from the workout and from the encouragement and sweetness of the staff. Hands down my favorite yoga studio for body meditation, so far. Really amazing space - it is so beautiful and big. They just added another studio next door which is a little smaller but gets a bunch of sunlight - perfect for bright morning yoga or yoga at twilight. The other room is cooler and darker. I wish when you booked online they told you which studio you were in. That would be awesome. I did 9 classes here and loved almost every one of them. The teachers are great - except the ones that just graduated from their teacher training course. They are a bit rusty - qualified for sure - but not as mind warping as the more experienced teachers.
