I was so happy to take advantage of the 2-week intro offer for $45--such a great deal, and honestly the only studio I've seen with something this generous. I came almost every day and really loved it! The space is bright, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with high-quality mats and props that make a difference. The teachers are fantastic--warm, welcoming, and really know their stuff. Some of the classes I took were truly among my favorite yoga experiences ever. What stood out most was the staff. Everyone was kind and greeted me when I arrived, which feels like such a rare and lovely touch in NYC. Why not a full five stars? The only downside was the mat setup--you're expected to use the one from the previous class, which is often still sweaty, and it's hard to reach the fresh ones underneath. Also, the floors could use a bit more cleaning between classes. I had a wonderful time and would absolutely recommend this studio. I'll be getting a membership. Oh idea for you: Put a second bar behind the mats for the used ones. Also reach out to the people who do the first time special and ask them how it went and if they want to join. read more

Great class and great facilities. However, if you sign up for a popular class, expect them to uncomfortably overbook it. Its a buzz kill after you've been sitting, stretching for ten minutes before class and just as it its time to start, some people arrive and you have to make space for them and now you have less than a foot between matts. I signed up for the two week introductory offer and have taken morning vinyasa flow classes with 3 different instructors. So far the studio is clean, they have mats for attendees so you don't have to bring your own if you don't want to. There are towels and cleaner. The facilities are clean and there's a cafe type sitting area when you enter. There's beautiful natural lighting and a calming ambiance. The studio is not cliquey nor is there any type of aesthetic to the attendees (ie you won't feel like you need to look or dress a certain way or bring certain accessories w you to fit in). I took a handful of prenatal yoga classes and they were all great and challenging. The space itself is bright and calming. There are mats and other items available you can use during a class. The instructors all do a great job correcting your form and provide a calming and challenging class each time. In our class, the instructor took it upon themself to proselytize their own political opinion on the current Israel/Hamas war - not exactly a relaxing topic and one that is obviously polarizing. It caused great stress in exactly the wrong setting. Advice: keep your yoga class an apolitical space. It's where a lot of us go to not think about politics, to say nothing of politics related to one of the most emotionally charged and divisive of all topics. read more

I really enjoyed this welcoming yoga studio in Park Slope. I was running a little late to class and got there about two minutes before start time and the staff was super friendly and got me right in. I tried the Basics class with Deidra. As a beginner, I really loved this class. Deidra was knowledgeable, patient, and helpful to everyone in the class. There was plenty of space in the studio and the room was perfect temperature and lighting. I felt like I was learning a lot and challenging myself a good amount. I liked that there was plenty of space in the lobby area to put your shoes and hang your coats and even more cubby storage space in the studio room. I've had the chance to practice at Bend & Bloom Yoga twice on my vacation and have had a great experience. They have a variety of class styles that include your basic flow, power vinyasa, restorative and more for all levels. I also saw a flier that they host yoga in the park during the summer on Thursdays, which sadly, I missed since the only Thursday I was in town was on the 4th of July (class canceled.) It's very easy to sign up online for classes and if you're in town for a week, they've got a great deal for 3 classes for $30. They've got a few rooms where class is held. The back studio that I practiced in was stocked with props, had lots of natural light with a skylight and some small windows and fits about 30 or so students. I attended a Wednesday 9:15 flow class that was 75 minutes and a Monday 12:30-1:30 flow. Both were awesome classes-I worked up a sweat and felt rejuvenated afterwards. I could see investing in a class package if I lived nearby. It's well worth it for the quality of classes, the welcoming staff and the calming atmosphere. Bonus is their spacious front area with cute yoga clothing and accessories for purchase, along with comfy benches to wait on before class. Great community space for practicing yoga. read more

***********MAXIMUM PARK SLOPE ACHIEVED************ I had a Friday off, so I came in for the afternoon class with a friend. The class was full, and as someone who works full time, I can't help but wonder why other people aren't working as well. When the class was over, I quickly learned the answer to my question. I came out to a room crowded with moms holding babies and a stroller parking lot in the lobby. Didn't realize the class was BYOB (bring your own baby). I don't think it gets much more Park Slope than a yoga studio filled with strollers. All jokes aside, this place is pretty excellent. The location and the facility are great. You enter to find a calm, welcoming environment. They have mats available for you to use if you don't have one. The prices are fairly reasonable for the area. We took the Advanced Flow class. I consider myself somewhere between intermediate and advanced, and I found the class to be accessible with areas that challenged me, which I like, and of course opportunities to make it harder or easier depending on which level you're currently at. I have back issues, so while yoga and core strengthening is important to me, I don't always want to push it. I really liked the instructor and she guided us through some interesting sequences I hadn't tried before. I would like to change my previous review of Bend and Bloom. After my last review, the owner reached out to me and said it was an anomaly not to accommodate a couple of days leeway to use the new student special within 30 days and invited me back for a free class. I appreciated that management took the time to read the reviews and reach out to its patrons. I used my free class to take my son to the family yoga class on Saturday mornings. It was wonderful. The instructor made the class engaging for children with a breathing ball and had dancing breaks when attention spans started to wane. Bend & Bloom is my go-to spot for yoga in Park Slope (and in Brooklyn generally since I travel here from Bay Ridge). They offer a wide variety of classes which attracted me to this studio in the first place - beginner's yoga, open flow, and Forrest Yoga are among my favorites. I came here using the new student special which offered a discounted price for the first 3 classes, but I still drop in when I see a class that piques my interest (the best way to see the schedule is to get the app - very convenient). In the summer, I come here once or twice a week. If you come here on a Saturday morning, be sure to book your spot in advance because Saturday morning classes fill up VERY quickly, especially if you want to do yoga basics. One thing I will point out is that some of these classes get VERY crowded... and by very crowded, I mean you may get the occasional foot to your face (especially in the front room) and the instructor will have a hard time navigating the room, but I deal with it because I like the class variety. The highlight of this studio has to be the boutique-feel and ambiance combined with the master instructors. I took a few Forrest Yoga classes with Denise Hopkins and Rachel McGowan and I am a believer. They are so attentive and caring about their students and just add to an overall great experience. Their workshops are amazing too (about $30 for a workshop but TOTALLY worth it). I wish this place was a little bigger and had showers since it's a pain for me to come from Bay Ridge all the way to Park Slope especially if I am coming back to that neighborhood in the same day, but it's a boutique studio so I can understand the need to conserve space. I also think adding mirrors to the rooms would help, especially for beginners who are trying to perfect yoga poses. All in all, the things on my wish list won't stop me from coming here. I was very impressed with the teachers - I am a yoga teacher as well, so when I learn new things in a class I'm happy to be challenged. I like that the studio provides a variety of classes, and it's very enduring that they cater to pregnant women and moms too. I took off a star for diversity. It's Brooklyn. I shouldn't be the only Person of Color in the space. Especially in these times, and in a yoga studio, I think diversity is something we should all focus on to create a safe space for everyone. read more

I really want to like Bend & Bloom, since options for yoga are weirdly a little bit limited in the Park Slope area. I've been there a few times, and the first three or four visits didn't really inspire me to write a review, positive or negative. Although I guess the fact that the classes weren't very memorable does say something about the studio... Anyway, I went there this past weekend because I was looking for a longer & more challenging class than my usual one. The 90 minute flow seemed perfect for me. But one of my biggest annoyances with yoga studios is when they cram an unsafe and uncomfortable amount of people in the room - especially when they have a HUGE space. And Bend & Bloom took this to the extreme. When this happens, I just tell myself to focus on my own mat, and I usually can deal with it. But the teacher acted as though we all had tons of space. So many of the poses involved stepping way off of our mats or reaching wide to either side. She told us not to feel bad stepping on our neighbors' mats... which is crazy. There are so many reasons not to want someone else's foot or arm on your mat. And with that in mind, I was super uncomfortable about touching my neighbor's mat. But you couldn't properly do half of the poses without doing so. If a class is going to be THAT full, the teacher needs to prepare a sequence that accounts for that. I mean, we couldn't even do cactus arms without touching another person's mat, much less poses with the arms completely outstretched. I was unfortunately in the front row, which meant that I was in danger of banging into the wall every single time I jumped back for chaturanga. The space limitations shouldn't be ignored in the development of a sequence, and it's clear that they were this past weekend. Not only is it annoying, it's dangerous. I would have loved the teacher and her flow in a slightly less crowded environment. We did a really great move at the start of class with the straps, and many of the poses were creative & interesting. But I can't get over the crammed room and my neighbors constantly stepping on my personal mat (and being encouraged by the teacher to do so). My other (much more minor) complaint is that the teacher played bland generic pop music during the class, which was pretty distracting to me. Oh, and there was a child screaming in the hallway during a good portion of the class (they hold "family yoga" at the same time), which was not ideal. This studio needs to seriously consider limiting the class sizes before someone gets hurt. The answer to making money is not to jam pack the room. read more

I moved to the Park Slope community just over two months ago. As a long time, yogi healing from a serious illness I was looking for a new yogic home. Fortunately, I found Bend & Bloom. I can't say enough about this studio. It is clean, well run and the staff is always friendly and professional. However, as with all yoga studios, the most important thing, in my opinion, is the teachers. Each teacher at B&B is extremely skilled, has a good understanding of anatomy and knows how to be supportive of the students. Given there are many talented instructors it gives students a wide range of choices within the schedule. When I have gone to other studios a class can be the same each time. At B&B the teachers mix it up and it is always different. In addition, the teachers, I found truly go with the flow based on who attends each class. My yearlong search for yoga studio ended once I walked into Bend & Bloom. This place is exactly what I've been looking for. I've taken several classes by different instructors and have enjoyed each one. I like that they all play music throughout the practice. The open flow classes are well tailored to a variety of levels. Last Sunday's 10am class sufficiently kicked my ass in a great, challenging way....and I burned 600 calories! As other reviews have mentioned, the studio is very nice. I love the tea and cookies. The only drawback is that it tends to get all awkward and cramped when classes are beginning. That happens in all studios, I guess. read more

You'll probably understand more about me than I should willingly share with you when I tell you this, first and foremost, about Bend & Bloom Yoga: they have a jar of free cookies in the lobby and after your class you can eat as many of them as you want, along with a cup of tea. Cookies! Now, for those of you less gluttonous, let me tell you about the studio. It's gorgeous. Like really, really nice. The lobby area is really welcoming with pretty wallpaper and the two studios in the back are spacious, colorful and clean and filled with natural light. I took the Wednesday night Basics/Intermediate class and I liked it, though it was a bit more meditative than I personally would like. I like yoga for the exercise and am less interested in the spiritual/awareness aspects of it. So I could have done without the chanting and singing. And yes, we did have to sing. In addition to that, though, the class was good. There was more attention to breathing than some other classes I've done and the friendly teacher was good about walking around and helping you get into the pose. For those who are interested, beginners can get a 3 classes for $30 (which have to be used in 1 month) package, which dramatically reduces the cost of the otherwise $18 class. All in all, a good class and damn did that ginger snap taste good after the 90 minute class. read more

I pretty much suck at Yoga. I'm not flexible, my breathing is always off, and I don't understand why I seem to be the only one suffering from sweaty, slippy, palms during extended downward dogs. After a few classes at Bend & Bloom however, I can feel my strength growing and I'm beginning to believe that the Side Crow may not be entirely out of reach. The Sunrise Express classes with Nityda are a great way to start the day. She is patient with beginner students and offers challenges to those who are more advanced. She gives me extra attention and adjustments when I clearly don't know what the hell I'm doing. And the woman OMs like an angel. The space is clean and serene and the location is perfect for me. I've finished up my yelp! deal classes, but I feel so damn good after those classes that I will be sure to buy a 10 pack and make B&B a bi-weekly routine. read more

Pleasant and clean studio, with a nice reception area and staff, and instructors are generally skilled and helpful. Housed in the bottom floor of a floor through and there are two studios, and cookies and teas out after class. There are two price points for 1 hour (express) or 1.5 hour classes, as well as the usual bulk discount and unlimited packages. As nice as B&B is, its not my regular studio because it is a little more chant-y/ yogi-core than I personally like (three OMs the limit for moi). The morning and evening classes are packed and the instructors let people in way after class has started. Some evening classes you are lucky to be two inches away from the next yogi. The schedule also is packed with many different classes - which sounds great but its almost too many. It make things unnecessarily confusing at times - like do I want to go to open flow, forrest yoga, dynamic alignment, sweet relief? Ironically, the variety has often stopped me from going when I only could make it at a particular time on a particular day because I wasn't thrilled about the class offering. Lots of kid-centered classes, and mommy meet-ups during the day too. Personally, its good for a drop-ins in a crunch, but not quite the right fit for me. read more

Yes, they have ~really~ pretty wallpaper in the reception area... that's not usually what i look for in a yoga studio but there it is. If i ever buy my own apartment i fully intend to go back and ask them where they bought it from... Wallpaper aside, i took their yoga for labor class and will let yelpers know if it actually helps me out on my big day. Overall, i was happy to find a class where most of the women were more focused on trying a natural birth (as opposed to the childbirth instruction class i went to elsewhere that made me feel like some dated counter-cultural hippie extremist). The instructors were patient, entertaining and generous with the handouts and instructions. One of them happened to be the spitting image of anais nin. Also, the tea in the lobby was delicious, i will probably ask what kind it is when i go back to find out about their wallpaper. read more

RUNNERS DREAM So I'm a runner and have has a tight itband issue for the last three years which has increasing affected my posture my breathing and has been frustrating. I've gone to physical therapy to help but its reoccurring because I'm active, don't stretch enough, sit all day, and am getting used to the tension so feel like it's an everyday part of life. I signed up for the align your spine yoga and rolling class. The instructor (Jason) was very nice. I was 10 minutes late and was not shamed. I felt more than welcomed. He was very friendly in an up beat way but not overly talkative which is a blessing for a post-work class. The class helped stretch out the winter tension caused by scrunching inward to preserve heat. We most postures from the floor which helped isolate the sides the back and the arms. I loved it and feel like my chest is less heavy and my bank and hips feel amazing. I'm going back next week read more

Best yoga classes so far! I went for two basic classes with Marisa. She's a great teacher, very helpful and open to questions. I really appreciate the advice she gave me after class about the stiffness in my neck and hip muscles. The studio is a short walk from the subway and easily accessible from either Brooklyn or Manhattan. Its clearly very popular because both the classes I went to were packed. I've been doing yoga in Brooklyn for the past 15 years, and I'm so happy to have discovered Bend and Bloom 3 years ago! It's by far the best yoga center in Park Slope. I love so many of the teachers: Lindsay A, Amy QS, Kate R, Saysha, Jason O...) they have all helped me with alignment, breath and strengthening my ailing back. I had only one negative experience with a teacher here, and that was with Julie Dohrman who was verbally aggressive with me in front of the class, and pulled my pony tail to indicate I should be holding my head up a bit higher. Not sure if this was on off day for her? But it definitely stayed with me. Bend and Bloom's studios are quiet, clean and have excellent air quality compared to many of the other studios I've been to in the area. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and efficient. The waiting room offers tea and ginger cookies, water, and you may peruse the rack of cute clothes and yoga books for sale while you wait. Bend and Bloom offers Yoga in the Park for free in the summers which is a dream, and their retreats are awesome! I love this place. read more

I have been here four or five times over the last few years. I mainly go when I have mild injuries at work and need yoga for physical therapy. The best yoga places, for me, are the ones where you are learning a skillset - the intricacies of exactly how to pose and breathe, and how to relate spiritually to the process. I think this place strays just a bit too much into the 'and one and two and three now switch' territory. Yes, I get a good instructor-led light workout. But I only rarely have the sense that the instructor's knowledge goes any deeper than 'how to be encouraging for an hour'. read more

My first review on Yelp... I just completed a month of Bend & Bloom's awesome "Brand New Beginners" introductory class with Kate R. It was great! The studio is clean and bright with natural light. The front desk folk are always friendly and warm, and the studio has a nice entry foyer where you can sit down, take your shoes off and chat with your teacher and classmates before and after class. Kate ran the class itself with skill, care, and self-deprecating humor. I always felt comfortable and interested in what was going on. We laughed a lot -- it was a ton of fun. Every week I looked forward to the next class, and I'm not your typical "yoga type" at all. My absolute favorite studio, where I've been practicing for (gulp!) almost a decade. Some truly excellent teachers, with quite a range of different styles but all extremely thoughtful and experienced. It's such a pretty space, easy to sign in online, and has friendly desk staff who will learn your name and make you feel welcome. I love that there are different length classes at all times of the day, as well as all ages and genders and sizes and shapes of student. Literally not one bad thing to say about Bend and Bloom--except that it's raised the bar in what I expect when I do yoga in other places! Bend and Bloom leaves little to be desired. I've been thrilled with most of their teachers and the entire studio is quite nice on the eyes. They offer classes at every skill level however you would need to have taken the teacher before in order to gauge how difficult their practice is. That being said, don't hesitate to take an unknown teachers' class because modifications are offered across the board. Classes taught by Angie, Summer, Lindsay, and Marisa are of exceptional quality. They are intelligent about anatomy/alignment and their sequences are innovative. *I haven't taken every teacher and those that I've mentioned are probably on the more advanced side. read more

After a long day navigating my way around NY, a Yoga session was just what I needed to finish of my day. I was truly impressed with the knowledge of the instructor and her ability to communicate the postures. Ive taken a lot of YOGA classes of all kinds and I've gone through the process of becoming a instructor, although I do not teach. I have to say that Marissa (Tonight's instructor) was an exceptional teacher. Probably one of the most impressive teachers I have ever encountered. Marissa's light adjustments and ability to pin point small changes in your personal body, in order to make the postures even more beneficial, was just perfect. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars was because the room was super small, it did not have any mirrors (I prefer to see myself in the postures for corrections) and they do not heat the room. read more

I have been a part of the Bend + Bloom community for over 2 years, and have loved both the knowledgable teachers and the peaceful energy of the studio. I moved to the area, and found Bend + Bloom after suffering a back injury. At that point I had been practicing for years, and in various cities all over the country. What I liked most was the focus on alignment (not just flowing to flow), and the variety of classes offered at the studio. You can choose to go to a more alignment based class (which can be slower paced, but still very challenging), flow classes, or even a Forrest Yoga class. Each teacher is unique, and I feel like the owner really takes care in who joins her teaching schedule --it shows. I read one review that says teachers "phone it in," here for a paycheck. After coming here regularly for class for years (and trying other studios around the city too), I couldn't disagree more. I found teachers who were able to respect my processes and help in furthering my practice, from a back injury all the way to more advanced classes. If you are new, I would give the studio a few tries to find teachers that resonate most with you -- because there are a variety of classes it can take a moment. Thank you Bend + Bloom for creating such a welcoming environment to further my practice. Also! I noticed they started capping there classes at a certain number for the busy mornings, and added "mat markers," for the crowded weekend classes. I've been to a few studios through class pass but bend and bloom is definitely on the top of my list. It's not the closest studio to me but I'm willing to make the extra trek for classes here! One of my favorite things about it is the space. it gets a good amount of natural light from the beautiful skylight (and two windows). It feels spacious even when it gets a little crowded. Also when the weather is nice outside, they leave the windows open so you can enjoy the fresh air. I really like all the teachers here. I usually take the sunrise flow class and it's a great way to start the day! I haven't had a single teacher more than twice here yet but I don't think you can go wrong. They all seem to have a similar style here. It seems they've figured out the key to creating a soothing practice (and challenging if that's what you're looking for). read more

Classes were good but beyond crowded, especially for the prices. After a whole day of work, walking in the crowded city, and being packed into the subway cars, I'm not a fan of being just 7 inches away from people on either side of me. I couldn't fully extend anything, and I'm only 5'3". Assuming it wasn't crowded, I would have given this place another star.
