When I tell you lol, this class was no joke.... My friend invited me to a class and I was like ohvyesss I'm so down to do heated yoga; Lmao baby, was I WRONG! The class is 60 mins long, so be ready to sweat!!!! Class is amazing. The flow of the class made it easy because I knew some of the moves, so I was able to co trol my movements and flow. The class was very big so it was a variety of people. I am beginner friendly, i was laughing in my head so hard as to why I felt this class would b easy. Definitely halfway through, I felt the sweat take over my body, and that's when I knew I was doing this class the right way. 2 days later, my body has been yelling for more yoga, but shiiiii, I need a break, lol!! read more

I really enjoy modo. Heated vinyasa flow, no musiic for today's class which is always meditative for me. The design of the studio is very modern and clean. Staff is pleasant and attentive. Easy parking. read more

Total scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went there once and had the worst yoga experience of my life, I started to feeling sick in the middle of the class and had to go to the bathroom to be sick. When I was at the female bathroom a male ententered the room demanding I head back to class and that I could not have left. I has almost faighting and had my female privicy complete jeperdized by a disrespectful male. Already unexeptable. I promised I would never go back and never intended to have a membership. I don't know where they got my signature, honestly seems like a scam that I am very unhappy about. I just got my bank statement and had almost $1000 was taken from my bank account, and the emails were sneaky enough to go spam, only making me realize about this membership now. I am so upset about this, more than upset really, I am feeling robbed! read more

Modo is magical from the minute you step in. The studio is bright, clean and it always smells sweet. Walking in here relaxes me and makes me feel blissful. From day one things were marvelous for me. Sasha was a sweetheart and I'm glad that my first experience with hot yoga was with him. All the teachers at Modo are outstanding. They will guide you and help you out if you need help. They do not force poses on you. PLEASE be respectful of the space and of the other people. Make your way tight-lipped around the studio. Do not go in like a savage throwing your mat and blocks upon grabbing a spot. There are people that are in deep meditation/relaxation before the class starts. Don't ruin it for them. They have ZERO tolerance when it comes to tardiness. You will not be allowed inside the class, and you will have to pay the class fee, regardless. Respect the practice and get in on time. If you are looking for a place to practice, don't hesitate to try out Modo. They have a great intro month deal going on. $40 for 30 days of unlimited yoga (phenomenal deal for Williamsburg). You will get free rentals upon your first visit. Afterward, you pay $2ea per mat, mat towel, shower towel, and water bottle. Aside from loving all the teachers and the beautiful studio, I am glad that Modo is eco-friendly. *Be kind to yourself. Namaste read more

The same Modo that I love but in Brooklyn? Yes please. This studio is managed by the same Modo team in Manhattan and classes are taught by the same teachers, as well. It's a total treat to travel a shorter distance on the weekends but still get my yoga fix. This Williamsburg studio is flawless; beautiful inside and out. They really stepped their game up with this addition to the yoga family. The outside is slightly deceptive as the signage is minimal. The front is a very bright, pretty white so when you see that, you know you've found it. It's almost directly across Metropolitan from Nitehawk so keep your eyes peeled for that, too. The studios are spacious and get reeeeally sweaty (woo hoo!) plus have lots of natural light pouring in through the skylights towards the back of each studio. I love the filtered water spigots in the walls. The showers are new and (unlike Greenwich) have hooks to hang your towels right next to the stalls. This location is great. Seriously, just when I thought you couldn't outdo yourself, you go and make me love this BK studio. Ch-ch-ch-check it out. read more

I love love the studio in the West Village, so when I heard that Modo Yoga was expanding to Billyburg, I was pretty excited to see such a great studio have a location now in Kings County. And guess what? They had a grand opening party this past Sunday with a free 75 min hot yoga class and a party afterwards. I can't think of a better way to end the week. I arrived around 3:30pm and the place was swarming with yogis. There was energy in the air! Since I was already a member at the West Village location, check in was very easy. I was greeted by a lovely person at the desk and she pointed me to the yoga mats, and towels that are stored on the wall right behind the reception area. Women's locker room is to the right behind the reception desk. There are water filling stations outside of men's and women's locker room (so bring your water bottle). There are two rooms for yoga practice. The grand opening class was in the top 5 of yoga classes I have ever taken (I have been practising yoga for 10 years now)! This studio was started by Arcade Fire's violinist and Bon Iver contributer and we were so so lucky to have them play live music for the 75 minute class which was a blend of vinyasa and restorative yoga. Mother Nature also supplied beautiful rain and the melody of the music along with the calming pitter patter clinking on the strip of the skyline windows which streamed in the last rays of the winter sunshine made for a meditation session that filled the heart with immense rapture and delight. That was one of the best, sweat dripping 75 minutes of my life. I felt completely detoxified after the class and ready to take on the world. The women's locker room was massive with many many showers (since the place just opened up, there were no shampoo or conditioner readily available yet), hair dryers, cotton swabs and tampons. Lockers have digital keypads, so no need to bring your own lock. And after the yoga class, there was a grand opening party and they served up all veggie delights including mozarella sandwiches, Israeli couscous with mint and kale salad. They were also pouring out kombucha and wine. What a wonderful way to spend Sunday afternoon in a beautiful studio with excellent yoga instruction! I will be back for more! Here's to a Fit and Fun 2016! read more

What took me so long to try this place !!! Evelin asked me to try and I waited like 3 weeks?!... I lost 3 weeks without experiencing this amazing place! My first time doing Yoga, it over exceeded what I thought it was going to be. The room is heated at anywhere from and about 98 to 108 degrees which made me sweat off all of my body toxins, is like getting the perfect work out minus the heavy physical work that I have to do to be able to sweat that much. lol The Modo Yoga is excellent, like I said there are poses being done at a perfect speed rate and sweating makes my body and mind feel completed and rejuvenated. The classes here are excellent by very professional teachers. I didn't know that doing the Yoga posses was such a challenge, the first time, it was difficult to pose and get my balance, it was fun ! by the 2nd class, I did better, I even took my t-shirt off for the class. This environment is great, highly professional and Yoga focused. Wearing a sports bra is the best for this classes, the sweating is quite intense. I am addicted to this, more please !...I got the unlimited 1 month for $40.00. To do this, you must be able to handle the heat, I do, I love the heat. The place is very clean, you must arrive earlier than the scheduled time to set yourself in your Yoga mat. The school is very clean, the bathroom has Shampoo and Conditioner in all the showers (big plus) first time I visit a place with nice conditioner available for my hair :) Please be silent as you walk in the room, so you don't interrupt the other students who are in meditation mode getting ready for the class. Just when I thought I had done it all, here comes Yoga and teach me more :) read more

I am SO so happy Modo Yoga has arrived in my neighborhood. I religiously frequent the location in the West Village and the Williamsburg is a much needed upgrade and a much welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The biggest improvement is the bathroom/change areas. It is massive! And beautiful. Huge stone showers...5 to be exact. The ceilings are high and makes the studio feel so spacious. Each room can hold about 60 students. Here are a couple of tips that will make your experience at Modo Yoga a much more pleasant experience: - There is only soap in the showers. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner if you plan on washing your hair. - Bring a plastic bag for your rank, dirty, sweaty clothes. I don't know why they don't have the produce bags that they had in the West Village studio. - Modo Yoga is mainly a vinyasa based practice. It is nothing like Bikram. The teachers are SO amicable, helpful and kind. - Bring a friend with you!!! I would love to see this studio grow and flourish. Yes Modo is a chain but they never make you feel like you are in one. A++++++ and Namaste. read more

Fyra Yoga - Opening weekend! - Yoga Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

First off - I've loved doing Modo Yoga on and off for the past two years. After destroying my body doing Bikram religiously for three years and, gotten tired of it, Modo seemed like the perfect downgrade (or upgrade depending on how you look at it). Way more enjoyable, less stressful, less shame (never encountered teachers who berate you for not pushing yourself hard enough) and an overall clean experience, while still getting the benefits of a great work out. Modo, unfortunately, only has two locations - which are rather geographically inconvenient for me - this location in Williamsburg and another all the way in the West Village. Both places have been incredible experiences. It just irritates me that I have to make so many transfers coming in from Queens and dealing with the crazy L train crowds. The facilities here are clean and open. Plenty of space out front to chill and read while you wait for class to begin. Reception is a little cold at times and could be friendlier (after all, we're in Williamsburg, people!) The rooms are HUGE! And heat is well-regulated. No complaints there. While teachers are much nicer (than places that teach militant yoga like Bikram for example) and more encouraging, they adopt an almost too casual approach to the classes and appear somewhat disconnected with students. It's also hard to hear them in such large rooms while switching between postures and would help if they had microphones on. All areas for improvement. read more

Everything you want from a hot yoga studio plus tea. Clean Comfortable Meditative Exhilarating Safe Challenging-- the words that come to mind when I think Modo Yoga. I really like this place. The studio clearly built to be a yoga studio (e.g., not an old office space converted into a yoga studio), and the space is fantastic. I like the very minimal look of the yoga studios (very future looking and relaxing with nice discrete overhead lighting). The best indoor yoga studio I have ever seen (here thinking that an outdoor yoga studio in Hawaii or Peru might be better). I took a class here nearly every day I was in the area. About six classes I think. Each teacher very good. The room was generally as hot as I like (hot, but not Bikram hot). Lots of classes and so easy to find a time to come. Nice locker rooms and showers. Wish there was a place like this near where I live. read more

I had dabbled in bikram hot yoga years ago but never really got into it consistently. I tried Modo through classpass and really loved my first class. Like everyone says, the studio is kept extremely clean and it is such an open and inviting space. The $40 unlimited month for new clients is an amazing value that I took full advantage of. I am a beginner and look forward to strengthening my practice at modo 11/13/17 update: please come back to classpass!!!! read more

Nice, clean and spacious. You are greeted warmly and genuinely as soon as you come in. It's wonderful to not have to do yoga on top of people. I have been here quite a few times now. The first month is $40 for unlimited yoga, which is an amazing deal. Definitely a great experience! There are always clean towels and showers are usually not all taken. They have little shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in the showers. There are compostable plastic bags for your sweaty clothes. The showers relatively clean and there are a couple of hair dryers by the sinks. Rentals are $2 each which, if you don't bring your own towel, mat or bath towel. They don't sell water bottles but they let you rent one for $1, which is eco friendly. The process is seamless here. You can easily book a class online and in-app, which is very comfortable. You can cancel up to 30 minutes before class starts. They show the number of available spots and they have waitlists. I have never seen a completely full class at this location. There are 2 very spacious hot studios and each can fit about 60 people! Cleaner than most studios that I have visited. The busiest classes are definitely Modo Flow ones, and you will definitely sweat like crazy! Modo is more chill and more of my thing. Hot Yin is awesome - if you are in dire need of a deep stretch after sitting all day at work. Yang Yin is the perfect balance of Modo and Hot Yin. I liked all the instructors so far. They are all very willing to help and no judgment at all. This place is great. You can really do yoga, focus and relax here. Have a cup of tea on your way out. I will definitely come back after my summer vacation. Awesome hot yoga studio. read more

The best present you can give your body and mind is coming to modo yoga. These classes have helped me heal an injury I've had for a year now, it's like all my pain washes away with my after class shower. And thank you for being understanding when I have to modify, and allowing us to listen to our bodies. Both locations are wonderful. read more

I purchased a 1-class deal, so I could try the place before getting a membership. It was $17 or $18 instead of the normal $20, but due to me running behind, I wasn't going to make it by 4 and didn't want to interrupt the class. I called and explained, asked if I could try the same class at the same time on Wednesday instead (keep in mind, I'm a prospective member) and the girl said, "No, you just lose the class, I'm sorry." I said, "That's not a whole lot of incentive to come try you again." And she said, "Yeah, but that's how it works. Have a good one." and we hung up. Look, I know they have a business to run, but only 9/60 spots were filled and I'm just trying the place out. Working in sales, that's a pretty big area of opportunity, especially when classes are only 15% full. I can't speak to the yoga, because I'm not paying another $20 to try it out. The unlimited intro month is $40 and I will have paid that just trying to take a trial class, which is super disappointing. You can keep the $17 or $18, but it seems an awfully low trade vs. the $160 per month that was on the table. read more

So my friend and I decided to try to find a yoga place around us and we ran into this while looking. First off, I am by no means a yoga expert or anyone who is in shape (though I am trying!). So, I started off feeling really intimidated and really insecure. The guy at desk (sorry, I forgot your name!) was really soothing, calming and welcoming. The facility was very clean, very hip and very welcoming. They have a tea of the day in the front, which is cool since I like tea. So, if you like tea, then that aspect will be for you, too! They provide you with yoga mats, yoga mat towels (since you will sweat like a greased pig) and a showering towel for $2 and you can give up your ID as collateral for one of their water bottles, if you don't have the water bottles that can keep your water cold. I forgot mine in my car but their water bottles are wonderful in keeping water cold while in the room. On to the class - We met the instructor (Michael) beforehand and he was very calming as well. The room was heated to about 96-100 degrees, if I saw the thermostat correctly. My friend and I were the first ones in the class. I started to feel anxious but I just closed my eyes and and sat cross legged as people were starting to come in. You're not supposed to talk but some people noticed that my friend and were new and they just nodded to welcome us which was very nice! Michael was very gentle and really helped me with my form on some of the stretches and poses throughout the class. We may use yoga blocks (provided in the room) for assistance (and I needed a lot of it!). Don't worry if you need to stop and take a break, they don't mind! I had to take a few breaks midway through. You can just lay on your back, or do some pose that you feel comfortable in, or just sit down and sip your water. This was one of their longest classes at 1 hour and 30 minutes (Saturday at 5 PM) and I stuck with it the entire way sweating like a greased pig. We were given time at the end to wind down and lay back and breathe and it was really soothing. We came out of the room and Michael was there to greet us (my friend has done yoga before and he loves it too!) and to tell me how awesome I was for my first time. One woman really thought that I wasn't a beginner since I was trying to keep up and I didn't leave the room. My friend and I went to take a shower and they thought of everything - They give us little baggies for our soaked clothing. Note to self: Don't wear a cotton t-shirt to hot yoga! We stuck around to talk to people and it was a really awesome experience. Honestly, before the class started, I thought after class, I was going to book it to my car and turn on the AC full blast. Except, when we walked back outside, also to 100 degree weather, suddenly, it didn't seem so hot anymore....Haha. I honestly felt reborn and felt as if I sweat out my demons from the week. You've got to come to this place! read more

Modo Yoga is the BEST yoga studio you will find! I have been going to the west village location for 9 months and go to the Williamsburg location on weekends. Overall, great workout, chance to meditate, beautiful space, great prices for yoga, amazing community and instructors I prefer Modo to Bikram since Bikram is so rigid. Modo is usually around 95-100 degrees, so it's not as hot as Bikram. Second, the studio is beautiful. It is full of light and is spacious. Just going here gives me peace of mind. When the weather is nice, they open the front glass doors, so you can sit in the front room and enjoy a cup of tea after practice. The prices are great. It's only $40 for an intro month. The monthly prices after are really reasonable compared to other yoga places in New York. Fourth, the instructors are amazing people. They get to know students and encourage everyone to try new asanas. They are also very easy to ask questions to, so if you have injuries don't be nervous about practicing. Couldn't recommend this studio more! read more

We came here for the grand opening today but unfortunately the room was already full to capacity so we didn't take the hot yoga class :(. the place is very clean and the stuff very attentive, they gave us a complementary hot tea and FOUR free class passes for the next time so we definitively will come back! read more

There is literally nothing not to love about this yoga studio. When I first walked in, it feels like a spa. Everything is so clean, so spacious, the front desk people are always nice and polite. The yoga class itself is pretty darn awesome. The instructors are very knowledgeable, a couple of my favorites are Frantz, Valerie and Sioban. This is one of my favorite yoga studio I've been to, hands down. I've also been to their West Village location, I truly prefer the williamsburg location, but of course it tough to get to on a weekday after work if you work in Manhattan. The West village location is always so f#$%ing pack. There are a few times where I lost my zen b/c the person next to me is all up in my space (not really their fault). Maybe reduce the class from 60 max to 50max in the bigger room?? It's just way too f#$%ing crowded. So in conclusion...Williamsburg location wins!! read more

Great studio, super clean, friendly staff, awesome teachers. Notice that the negative comments here are by someone who arrived "right on time." One of the many things that I like about this studio is the fact that they don't let latecomers into the room as I find it incredibly disruptive and distracting. If you show up a little early, get your spot and get settled in you'll have a great experience. My only minor complaint is because of the fact that the studio is so inclusive and class pass friendly, you get a lot of people like the aforementioned poster who don't know yoga etiquette i.e. will talk in the room before class and drop their mats on the ground super loudly while people are in shivasana but the teachers always do their best to address this in a kind way and the cleanliness here is mind-boggling by New York standards! read more

I went to Modo in PDX while living there and decided to give their Williamsburg studio a try. I was not disappointed! They have a great variety of classes from beginner to expert, and it's usually not hard to get into a class (except noon on the weekend). The studio is always super clean and the staff is awesome - all very friendly and accommodating. The $40 intro month is truly a steal! The normal prices aren't bad, either. The teachers, wow. A diverse and wonderful group of people. Shout out to Zoe for being an incredible teacher - the first class I took with her was intense but I felt confident and so trusting through her instructions. Another class I took with Leigh was very renewing - her adjustments were spot on. Again I left feeling confident and inspired to continue with yoga, which surprises me as I haven't been historically into yoga. Keep it up! You have a new Modo advocate! read more

My boyfriend and I had a Saturday class with the lovely Jase. He was nice, patient, and very enthusiastic about the practice. He welcomed us with literally open arms. The new facilities are great: everything is new, modern, yet still have the charming feel to them. The owners made really smart design choices. The restroom are clean. The practice rooms lack that distinct sweat smell which is great for us Manhattan dwellers. Everything is roomy, open and fresh. There's free tea with different flavours if that is your thing. Overall, awesome studio. read more

Came for a 9am class, arrived right on time and checked in with the receptionist. I looked into the class room, everyone seemed to be in shivasana, so I assumed it was the previous class and waited. Turns out that they started class already (in shivasana) and when I approached the receptionist she insists that now I am not allows to go in, that I would be interrupting class, when she was prob the one who should have told me before that this was the rule of the studio when I first came in. Extremely unfriendly, terrible attitude from receptionist. Wasted trip to the studio. read more

I've dabbled in yoga for years, trying multiple studios and types of classes all around the city. None ever had the welcoming, inspiring warmth like that of Modo, which keeps me coming back for more. Not only does the studio have a gorgeous spa-like quality, but the teachers and crew have healing-like qualities - all very kind and considerate. A haven of relaxation, peace and a hint of sweat in crazy NYC. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, friendly and peaceful. The teachers are always around after class if you have any questions, which I often do because I have a lot to learn, and I don't feel silly asking. I've been inspired to come as often as possible and really get into a routine. I think this is the first time I've ever stuck with a new years resolution :) The music classes have well curated playlists as well. I'm excited for every class and leave feeling energized and refreshed. Thank you Modo for helping me heal, grow, reset and recharge. Namaste read more

I'll start by saying this studio is GORGEOUS - very spacious, beautiful design, warm, and welcoming. Free tea to enjoy as well! The yoga room itself was again very spacious and I had plenty of room to flow at my 11AM Saturday 'Freestyle Flow' class. It is pretty hot in there, and there are humidifiers placed throughout the room. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the class didn't really seem to be 'Freestyle' - it seemed like a traditional vinyasa style class with various sequences and time to do a few modifications of your choice. Maybe I'm not as experience to know the difference but I will absolutely be coming back here to try more of the options - it's great to have 60, 75, 90 min etc. times. read more

I hate giving this studio such a low review, especially because it has some of the best yoga in Brooklyn. Great teachers and classes, beautiful yoga rooms. But the studio hygiene is unacceptable. Rental mats here smell PUTRID. They're often still wet from previous yogi sweat. Because all classes here are heated, once the rental mat become wet, it smells like moldy flatulence from the scores of sweaty yogis who've used the mat before you. Not only is this disgusting, it's also distracting when you are trying to focus on your breath while trying not to gag from the odor. Child's pose is often an exercise in how long you can hold your breath to avoid inhaling the ROTTEN smell. The studio has a terrible system for cleaning mats. Each student is responsible for spraying their own mat with this citrusy "mat spray." It's like an honor system for studio housekeeping. I've seen students give a single spritz and walk away. There are fans in the room where the mats hang, which presumably dry the mats. Than, as far as I can tell, the mats are rolled back up and used for the next class. The mats must be laid out and scrubbed between each use! And properly dried! This process must be supervised by a full-time professional! Like many other yoga studios around the city, Modo seems to employ students as maintenance staff. Low/no wage in exchange for free yoga. These are not professional cleaners and the rest of the studios cleanliness reflects this. Bathroom floors during peak hours are soaking wet. The showers and bathroom often also smells of mold. The special (cork?) floors of the studios are warped from the heat and are often wet at the beginning of a class. When possible, I bring my own mat, but sometimes I travel directly from work and need to rent one. This is always gross. Again, I'm bummed to write this review, especially when I like the rest of what the studio has to offer. I'm more forgiving of a studio with inconsistent cleaning policies if it's donation based, like YTTP. But YTTP is cleaner than Modo usually is! For a place that charges $20 for a drop in and $4 for a mat +towel, the cleanliness is unacceptable and must change! read more

First off, some guy name "GREG D" https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=faqAc9Ji993yFzWvqwaFRg" is harassing me on my messages and mansplaining saying that there is something is "effing" wrong with me for writing my review. I don't know if he is from the studio or not, but based on his messages, I think he is. He is awful and he writes reviews about owning vespas and houses in SF and shit so he couldn't possibly understand how someone with middle income would be upset about being duped out of 20 bucks. My messages from Greg D exhibit the williamsburg elist douchery that is preventing my rating of 5 stars to this place. Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines, not about people trying to gain something on someone else. I have lived in NY for 18 years so I am confident in my abilities to arrive somewhere on time despite the MTA's inconsistency. I am also a teacher myself so I can differentiate between fair and unfair lateness policies. Anyway, so I was delayed because the L train suddenly went express to 14th street U sq from deep Bk without alerting the riders. When I made it in to explain, the woman at the counter was very rude to me and refused to let me transfer my 20 dollar payment to the next class that was not full yet. She was actually maybe lacking in intelligence because she let me in the bathroom and I could have just walked in. (duh.) It was about 15 min after my class began because I now had to come back to Bedford ave from union sq and she wouldn't let me just go into the next class in 15 min that wasn't full!?! Why not? I payed the 20 already. I emailed the manager and he gave me a free class, which was great. I am not giving the studio a full 5 stars because someone from this business is possibly harassing me on message greg d, now blocked) and the woman who checked me on that day was very unkind and incompetent. Other than that I give 5 stars. read more

I signed up for the 30 day trial pass ($40) at Modo's Williamsburg location, and went three to four times weekly throughout the trial. Overall, my intro month at Modo was a great experience-- so much that I've introduced friends to the studio and had one of them sign up for the intro month as well. The space is beautiful, the lobby is nicely arranged and the staff were all very kind. However, as a new studio I feel they still have some kinks to work out, which I would like to address. The Classes: During my trial, I've taken primarily 9AM or 10AM Modo or Modo Music classes. I've had many instructors (Lauren is my favorite) and several different teaching styles. My main issue is the inconsistency in the studio heat. Some instructors keep the room very, very hot to the point where the walls precipitate. Other instructors, like Randy, keep the room at a hot but nicely manageable temperature, with considerate use of the cooling fan. Even though "Modo" and "Modo Music" are essentially the same class, I found myself having very, very mixed experiences with them. Sometimes I would be left feeling almost ill, lightheaded and dehydrated-- other times I felt great afterwards. This is interesting considering all instructors utilize the same poses for the most part (although some like spending time on slightly more advanced poses like Crow's pose, etc) but the heat level and frequency of fan usage greatly impacted my practice. The Changing Room/Restroom (Women's side): The restrooms at Modo Williamsburg could use a bit of help. First off, none of the stalls close properly and tend to swing open while in use. Modo also offers no flushable toilet seat covers like other high-end studios, so girls either have to line the seat with toilet paper (which is occasionally not stocked) or be in "chair pose" taking a pee. Keep in mind that the restrooms are shoe-free, so standing near a toilet and squatting to pee while holding the door shut can be a bit of a challenge. Next, Modo offers organic applicator-free tampons which is wonderful in theory-- however, there are no paper towels near the sink to ensure properly cleaned hands (or open/close the stall doors) and the lack of properly closing bathroom stalls makes inserting an applicator-free tampon both unhygienic and nightmarish (sorry for the detail here). Lastly, Modo should put a scale in the restroom-- it's important in helping monitor water weight loss and calculate how much water one should drink after practice. Please keep in mind that I really do enjoy Modo, and may continue my membership once September rolls around. I hope the staff can review my thoughts and hopefully make some changes. read more

I had a really great class with Jeremy today his instructions were clear and the flow of the class was challenging for me but relaxing too which I loved, the entire experience from checking in to leaving was welcoming, and friendly, I always have a positive time here, thanks Modo! read more

Enjoyed this quaint studio. Quieter than the west village location. Plenty of lockers in the bathroom. Great staff of course. It was very similar besides the painting of the elephant on the wall to the west village location so I'll just say: Modo heats perfectly has a perfect variety of classes and is reasonably priced. read more

Modo Yoga is just perfect. I've already been three times in the last month (which is actually a lot for me since I also see a personal trainer 4 x / week and work 50 hours / week). I have also referred three friends and my boyfriend to this studio, and I'm headed over in a couple of hours. I've tried literally all the yoga places from Laughing Lotus to Jivamukti to Atmanada and many more. I can hands down say Modo is the best. What I love the most: - They actually live their values and are striving to go "zero-waste" meaning unlike other studios that brag about being cruelty-free and vegan yet serve processed fake-healthy vegan food packaged in single-use plastic and $10 juices in plastic bottles, this place does NOT offer plastic water bottles. Finally, an authentic yoga studio that is staying true to the planet! I love the bold bring your own water bottle initiative and the composting bin. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping we would see more of, and it finally exists. - Unlike other popular and trendy yoga studies whose names will go unmentioned, you will not find annoying supermodels showing off their $300 yoga outfits and barely breaking a sweat so as to not ruin their perfect hair and makeup. You also won't hear anyone making beyond belief, hyper-exaggerated breathing sounds (I am not talking about breath of fire which I am a fan of and do myself) - you know the ones that are so loud that it actually disrupts your meditative state. Instead, classes are filled with genuine people who are not looking to put on a fashion show or strut their figurative peacock feathers. - I am in excellent physical condition and workout 5 days per week, and this class pushes me. It doesn't push me over the limits to the point of feeling sick and uncomfortable, but rather it pushes me so I feel like I not only leave super rejuvenated, grounded, and calm, but my entire body feels long, lean and strong. It's the perfect combination. - You won't find stereotypical "hippie" instructors with annoying voices here. I don't know how else to say this other than the yoga teachers are extremely down to earth and normal. There is no music (at least in the classes I have taken here, but maybe there is in other class types), and the lights are dimly lit. You are also not encroaching on anyone's space and always have enough room to fully extend your limbs. What a nice change for once! - The studio is immaculate. So clean and calming without the gross smell of toxic cleaning chemicals. A true pleasure. read more

Beautiful studio but had a horrible experience. I went to a morning class and had to leave the class a few minutes early due to a personal matter that had come up that morning. I'd already signed up for class and couldn't get my money back so I still went. I sat in the spot right next to the door and when the class went into pigeon pose I figured that would be a good time to exit as people were laying down not moving. I quietly left the room in a matter of seconds and can not imagine that was offensive to anyone. As I'm walking towards the lobby the teacher runs out of the studio and proceeds to yell at me for leaving early and said if I didn't leave because I wasn't feeling well that I need to go to the receptionist and tell her what I did so they could dock me for this. EXCUS ME? Was I really just reprimanded in a yoga class? Didn't the teacher disrupt the class more by running out to scold me? It's yoga. Your supposed to be accepting of people and things come up and people have lives outside of the class. I have been to hundreds of studios and never have I ever experienced this. It's NeW York - there are always people leaving a class early or arriving late. I'm still shocked from this experience and obviously would never return due to the way I was treated. read more

I love this studio, the classes and facility are amazing however their practices with membership are not very"yogi". I don't make a lot of money so the memberships are a huge money investment to me... I do it anyways because yoga is important to me and I feel that this studio is worth it. However...when I bought a 6 month membership and found out I had to leave town for a month to go to India, I asked the front desk person if I could put a freeze on my acct for the month. He said no. And then I asked if my friend could use it, and they said no. I then asked the owner and told him my predicament, he said to me "the 6 month membership was already so heavily discounted, it didn't make sense for them to make any accommodations." The membership was not cheap, it was actually expensive for me and it made me feel angry. It felt gross, like this was a profit company. It felt invalidated that the answer was NO bc of the price discount, that was still very expensive for me... it makes me feel that this is not "yoga" but instead Starbucks. Dear modo yoga, please find kindness in your heart and use compassion when it comes to membership because some of your clients are making huge sacrifices to be a member and want to go to this studio and refer friends and be apart of the community. In return they will bring their hearts and kindness to the practice. read more
