Di and the whole team here are incredible! Their infrared sauna can't be beat and is only $35 for an hour - and you have a private shower. The Kundalini workshops are intense but worth it. I haven't tried their other yoga classes but excited to try DM's class. My favorite though has been Cheryl's sound baths at 8:15pm Tuesdays. They're relaxing and transformative and healing - there isn't a better way to unwind from the pace of the city. read more

I purchased a Groupon for the One Young You and I'm so glad I did. Erica was absolutely fantastic. The space itself had a calm and inviting vibe. My only complaint was with the front desk and with the initial reservation where I was told to bring a towel and told to make sure to tip accordingly. I'm aware that there are loads of people who do not know proper tipping etiquette but I'm not one of those people. I purchased two separate Groupon's, for two different people, paid twice the tax and gave twice the recommended tip so it didn't make sense to be told that only one towel would be provided. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. I'm aware, obviously that Erica played no part in any of what occurred prior to my actual detox experience and I wanted to be fair and rate it solely based on that. I discovered Human@Ease through ClassPass almost a year ago and it's been a great addition to my workout repertoire, which are mostly Crossfit and HIIT classes that focus on foundational movements (push, pull, squat, cardio, etc.). Their "Introversion" strength training classes are great for adding weights to your routine, but with a twist: each machine-based exercise is done verrrrryyy slowly in order to remove momentum from the movements, which work your muscles a lot more since you need to control the pace of your lifts in both directions. The sets are long enough to reach a point of muscle fatigue, but an added emphasis on controlled breathing helps you power through each. There isn't much rest between exercises; as soon as one set is done, it's on to the next machine. The result is a somewhat "calming" workout that kicks your ass in the end, and for how slow it is, still leaves you feeling like you did high intensity work. The trainer Geo is also amazing. It's rare to find someone so attentive, motivating, and friendly. He sets up each machine, helps select your weight, reminds you what muscles to focus on, watches your form (like a hawk), reminds you to breathe, clocks your speed, and encourages you to power through when things get tough. I've never seen a trainer work the room so hard, and you can just tell that he really loves his job. He's there every week (Wednesday nights) and is good at remembering people's names, past injuries/trouble areas, and lifting capacity. Anyway, check them out, try a class, and discuss your goals with them before you begin. Everything's pretty scalable from beginner to advanced, and it's a surefire way to guarantee weight training in your routine, especially if you're a ClassPass member and hop around different studios like me. read more

I went here for a detox massage with my husband a while back, which was lovely. But I mainly use their sauna, which I absolutely love! I had a long weekend in Vegas and was really feeling the effects of it on my body. I spent an hour in the sauna and feel such an incredible difference. They have a Hi-Q sauna, which I swear I feel a difference with every time. Come here if you feel a cold coming on...it'll make it disappear! Massage with coconut oil was very relaxing and exactly what I needed to moisturize my skin. Infrared sauna I also enjoyed very much (don't forget to drink water because you'll be sweating a lot). I love this place! Such a chill gym, great equipment and flexible pricing for sessions. I do the 'self guided personal training'. The first couple of sessions they teach you about the equipment, help you find your proper settings and then from there you keep a progress chart of your workouts week to week. I've been slacking a little more lately but i've been coming here pretty consistently for the past year and I just have had such a great experience and great results! I'm usually coming at strange hours so I get to have time in the gym area all by myself usually or at max with 1 or 2 others at a time. I also had the community shiatsu, which is shiatsu massage (think Reiki and Accupressure combined) by donation. I felt like I was walking on air afterwards (in the best way possible!) Also, I have nothing but great things to say about everyone who works there. The owner Di is super sweet and helpful - she also has the cutest dog on the face of the planet I would say (somewhat bias because I see him every week) but still! Beautiful space, classes are not over-crowded, extremely friendly staff, and a bonus of this awesome fluffy-lion-dog that chills in the reception area. Last night I had my second yoga class in my life, and 1st in several years. I booked via ClassPass for the Happy Hour Yoga. I was a little late and thought for sure they would not let me into the class. The weather was really bad last night. The woman at reception not only let me into the class. But she was super understanding and friendly. I rushed into the class, and fumbled my way through it. I am not good at yoga (yet). The instructor, Nikki Saint, was amazing! She was very down to earth and kind of funny at times, which I loved, it made me feel comfortable. She came over to me at one point to ask if I was ok and totally didn't judge me for opting for child's pose when I couldn't keep up. I didn't feel intimidated thanks to her. Towards the end there was a nice relaxing part and she even came over and had some aroma therapy stuff. She also adjusted my positioning a few times. I'd say she's very attentive to her class. I will totally go back. I've already recommended the studio to a bunch of friends. Highly recommend! read more

I had surgery last winter and wasn't ab;e to work out for a couple months; I gained about 10 pounds. Try as I did to get the weight off, doing my usual yoga, cardio and pilates I had been doing to stay in shape for years, I became pretty convinced I would never lose it. I walked into human@ease in September, and learned about their self training and bmi assessment and figured it couldn't hurt; I never did weight training before but I was willing to try anything! With Dishan's guidance, self training 2-3 times a week, and some suggested dietary changes my body fat dropped 4 percent (mind you, only about 6 months) and I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life. I couldn't recommend her more highly. She taught me how to use the machines, create my own workouts, and helped me get results. read more

I came here for an infared sauna appointment and was very excited to have a relaxing hour on my day off. The man working the front desk was very very helpful and nice but there needs to be some sound proofing on the door to where the sauna is. Another patron came in was I could hear the entire very loud conversation they were having and it ruined the entire experience. There was a stereo inside the sauna but I was not shown how to use it. I found a deal on groupon for a couples massage.Never had one before so didn't know what to expect.I was also reluctant to go to Bk just for a massage (I live in Queens). Well, I'm glad I did.The staff was nice and welcoming. The place was clean and relaxing.I loved the lobby, it has an artisanal feel to it. The massage itself was excellent.I was massaged with lemongrass /coconut oil for 20-25mn then wrapped before heading to the sauna for about 30-40mn.There's even a shower in the sauna room so you can be all clean when leaving. It was a positive experience for me as well as my husband and I would recommend it to anyone. I work long hours and it's just what I needed .We loved it so much we have decided to come back every month or so for that massage,it will be our special pampering. Let me preface with: the gym is not my favorite place. Human@Ease has really impressed me and besides being impressive, has actually provided me with a place i can feel comfortable working out. I like the whole vibe and vision of this place. Its a gym and wellness center combined and you can tell they are heavily into holistic health. I've taken ZUMBA there, and LOVED it. I've used their infrared sauna, which was clean and just an overall nice experience. The people there are really nice, and seem to make an effort to know their clients. This is my gym of sorts now. It's not a gym in the typical sense, it's small and has a limited amount of machines (I took a star off for the ones I miss), but that's not that point. This is a place to work out and have a non-gym experience. So, if like me, you don't like the usual pumping music, steroidal grunting and competition for machines, this is far better. The staff are also super helpful and pleasant to deal with, something I didn't always find at the previous places I've been in nyc. So if your looking to work out but are put off by the gym atmosphere, this is a definite alternative. read more

I purchased a package, and go here just for the infra-red sauna. I had to complete a questionnaire prior to using the sauna, this seemed a little unique. However, the form was not excessively long, it was two or three pages. The sauna itself works fine. They hooked up a car stereo inside the sauna so clients may make their own music choices. I personally don't need it 'cause I bring my own book with me. They provide enough towels, a glass of water, and toiletries. There's a shower in the room for after the sauna-so that's a plus. Dishan, the owner, is very pleasant and so is every staff member that I've dealt with so far. The decor is lovely, very zen like, and relaxing. Although the neighborhood (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) is a little out-of-the-way for me, at least they are close to a train- the G line. Another plus is their business hours, most days they are open 'till 9pm. The location also offers various styles of yoga and massage, maybe I'll try it someday. read more

Human ease is such a great place. the atmosphere is filled with good energies, friendly faces, and genuine support and knowledge. I go regularly to the classes and have tried a few of the wellness services. I have a gym membership (to a big shall remain nameless corporate one) and never saw myself as a class person, being in those huge rooms, not being able to see the instructor has always frustrated me. I decided to try Human ease because its a "private gym" which is something i wanted for my first class experience. The receptionist girl is dumb as a brick and is literally responds "I don't know" to any questions. I had a massage with Kasia and it was unlike any massage that I had ever had, and yes...I've had a lot of massages. I laid on the floor and she stretched me out, rolled me into a ball, etc. It was a little like Rolfing. I've never had a Thai massage, maybe that is similar, but I wouldn't know. Anyways, I felt relaxed afterwards and that she worked out the kinks. I liked that she stretched me out. It was truly a unique experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. Went here with a friend for a living social deal. The employees are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Each one I encountered had something nice to say about their services without being pushy. The idea of using a gym or weight machine has always made me feel at best uncomfortable, at worse disgusted. This is WHOLE different story. I love this place and have been going for the last month. It's clean, the music is calming, the decor has worn oriental rugs and billowy drapes, and you will work your ass off (no really, don't let the decor fool you) in a positive, healthy, someone non-tradtional environment. More detail: The wonderful staff shows you how to use the machines and if you opt for a personal training session (I STRONGLY urge you too, so helpful) instead of "Come on wimp, you can do one more," you get "Scan your body for any stress and let it go while putting down the weights, this will make you stronger on the next rep." He's not an obnoxious cheerleader or a screaming football couch, he's a guide and a teacher. The form of weight training used here is High Intensity Strength Training. Therefore you do a short amount of time, VERY slow reps with a lot of weight. You use each machine for about 2 minutes, but you can hardly walk when you are done. Yoga attitude meets weight strength training x 10. I love it. read more

I love Human@Ease. I just "joined" (it's pay-as-you-go) and it's the greatest gym I've ever been too. Actually, it's not even a gym. It is a strength training facility with a sauna, classes (nia, yoga, meditation, etc). The trainers are caring and knowledgeable. The whole idea of being here is really to focus on your body, focus on the burn and take it slow. The atmosphere is calming like from the moment you walk in, the stress goes away and you can focus on the task at hand. Definitely sets me off in a good mood for the rest of the day! The only downfall is that there are no cardio machines. :( read more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Bought a groupon for the Shrink me in a Hurry package. Made an appointment, and was told to get there 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. When I got there, I just waited and waited. Only one guy working there was helping another woman with a personal training session, and didn't even notice when customers walked in. Many walked in, stayed 5 minutes, then left. Waited 30 minutes before I was told the woman who was supposed to help me today just "didn't show up". He didn't seem surprised, as if she just didn't show up on a regular basis. After an hour he told me I might as well leave. Worst experience, even if I were to get the package I paid for, the place did not look professional, would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Coming to Human@ease was one of the best fitness decisions I could have made. The gym itself is cozy and welcoming. But, what I have found to be the best aspect of this fitness space, are the people. All of the staff are so supportive, motivating, and uplifting. I feel a sense of acceptance and appreciation whenever I am there. Originally, I wanted to just attend a Zumba class, but after trying out the Kick Boxing Cardio class I was hooked. I've also tried out other classes and realized that all of the instructors were pleasant and motivating. What I thought would be just a try, grew into a whole new perspective on fitness goals. I have spent thousands of dollars in my lifetime on gym memberships that went down the drain because of my lack of commitment. I honestly live next door to a gym, however, it doesn't impress me much. It is so much more worth it for me to go to a place that actually grants progress and results. That is why I travel outside of my area to a place where I find myself at ease. They also offer other forms of healthy living solutions such as life and nutritional coaching, as well as an infrared sauna to cleanse your body from harmful toxins. I mean this place will really help you better your life, whether you want a complete transformation, or just a quick workout! Ever wonder what it would be like to smell and feel like an old piece of wrigley's doublemint gum? Now's your chance! Yes, this was a living social deal. First they tried to sell me an add-on massage to the wrap and sauna aromatherapy session I had already purchased. I declined. It would have been nice to know in advance when I made my appt. that the person doing the wrap was a man. He also didn't speak clearly, so that also made things uncomfortable, as I had to keep asking him to repeat. himself. They don't even offer disposable panties, needless to say I kept mine on. He says to me as I'm face down on the table, "I understand you declined the massage, but I like to massage beforehand." I'm sure he's a nice person, but he was clearly not a trained or experienced massage therapist. even rubbing in some of the obvious no-no spots, (bone, spine). It didn't help that his hands felt quite callused/rough. He put some spearmint oil on me and said that was the aromatherapy! (I still smell like cheap gum even after two showers.) Why can't they ask what scent you might like? Then came the wrap. This was the worst wrap I've ever had. A seven year old child could do a better job. He did once around my calves, and something messy around my upper knee area, completing missing thighs, also wrapped my rib cage, but not my stomach area. When I got in my room alone, I tried to rewrap the stingy material there was. The plastic was rolled and not smooth, when it dawned on me, I'm a giant wad of stinky gum! Then I went in the sauna. No big deal. It's not even big enough to lie down on your back with your knees bent! Also, after the "wrap" I asked for towels, stating it would be nice to have a towel in the sauna/and or when I got out of the shower. He said I could use what he had resting on me before (a hand towel, and two small foot mat towels!!), which were also caked with stinky spearmint. Really, no towels I asked? There is a towel shortage now, he told me. I sat uncomfortably in the sauna for 40 mins, it wasn't even that hot, then took a shower. My underwear was soaked. No spares! Also the bath mat in front of the shower was already damp (not pleasant or spa-like), luckily lighting was dim so if it was also dirty, I was able to miss that. When I got out the desk lady tells me there's a five dolllar service fee and mentions the gratuity. Paid their service fee, but this was the first time I've never left a tip, and I'm usually a 20-25% tipper. Now I've got to get these sore spots out of my neck where the guy uninvitedly rubbed me the wrong way. Literally! Tip- If you already bought a coupon for this place and need to use it, bring your own towel, don't get spearmint, don't get massaged, and bring your own plastic wrap! If you were thinking about coming here for this kind of treatment, I'd say skip it! You'll sweat more at a bikram class, just laying in child's pose, and it will cost you less. read more

It's been exactly a year since I've joined Human@Ease and I can definitely say that I have no regrets. I started the gym with the BEST program - a 3 month course focusing on overall wellness + health involving everything from discussions about eating habits as well as strength training. I lost the 10 stubborn pounds I was holding onto during the program and have kept it off a year later! My eating habits and exercise regiments have definitely changed from the program. So far at Human@Ease, I've tired their personal training, introversion self-training, group classes, and I can say that they're all great. I probably prefer the strength training most because it involves tracking data to see how you're progressing which is a big motivating factor for me. The staff is extremely helpful and a great source of support. If you want something different from a normal "gym" experience, definitely try the place out! read more

I really dislike the typical gym scene and this is the perfect alternative. Dishan sets up 2 alternating 1/2 hr workouts for you that are deceptively intense but also easy to follow once you are on your own. For me, the hardest part about going to the gym was not really knowing what to do/how much to do. Human@Ease simplifies everything so I can just go in, focus for 30min and get in a great workout. The vibe in the room is more along the lines of a yoga studio than a typical gym and since only 4 people are allowed to work out at a time you can make it thru your routine smoothly. I've definitely noticed some great results with the super slow method. Once a week does help, but for me every 4 days seems to be the perfect balance... plus the price is very fair. I like the pay as you go model since I often travel for weeks at a time. This way I don't feel like I'm wasting money on a gym membership that I'm not using. Big thanks to Dishan and everyone else who works there. I've been going here for about 9 months now and it's the first time since I was doing high school sports, that I can honestly say I am going to stick with a fitness regimen. I have been coming to Human@Ease for almost a year and a half. My partner and I regularly use the infrared sauna and really enjoy the experience. The gym has a very laid back feel to it and while I am mainly familiar with the infrared sauna space they offer some really cool programs and classes that I would definitely check out if I lived closer. The sauna space is always clean and there is a shower in the room which was a life saver for me when I used to work in the evenings. They also have toiletries that you can use such as shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc. Geo and other front desk staff are always super helpful and accommodating when it comes to scheduling and any concerns that may come up. They have deals from time to time on sauna packages which has also really helped me out given my grad student status. This is a super laid-back, welcoming and relaxed gym that offers a great infrared sauna. I would recommend for anyone interested in wellness services to check out Human@Ease! read more

Serious gym and spa services in a funky`setting north of hip Williamsburg/McCarren Park. Very nice people, particularly Di, the owner I believe. I go for the PRIVATE infrared sauna, a potent detoxifier, and the massage services (VERY reasonable rates). I am a NYC massage therapist practicing for 17 years, and Sue is the real deal! I buy the "Get the Funk Out" package (45min Thai massage followed by 30 minutes of infrared sauna), and I am ready forthe week ahead! One complaint: booking on the phone can be a problem. First time took forever, second time receptionist booked the wrong type of service and I showed up only to be disappointed. But Di, the owner turned my frown upside down by generously giving me a free 45 minutes in the sauna! This is a client centered place I want to support. read more

I found a living social deal for a detox package and decided to try hunan@ease. I made the trek from the Bronx to Brooklyn and after taking the G in the wrong direction made it to my appointment. I have a few spa massages a year usually gifts from people who think I'm too tense I generally agree. What I hate about spas is how sort of sterile it all is someone greets you dressed in all white you drink warm water it's silent and I can never relax. I will say this massage was the opposite definitely the most relaxing massage I've had which was very surprising. With the detox you also get a face massage green tea eye treatment aromatherapy and 30 minutes in the sauna. Facility was very clean and more important warm and inviting. I felt in a word at ease. My only complaint and this isn't necessarily for the business is I wish I knew before hand how much the package normally costs and the suggested tip. You cannot tip on a card but can pay tax on a deal with one. I felt terrible for only having 13 bucks in cash but hopefully ill be back soon! read more
