I dropped in for Murph, my one annual CrossFit workout (after many years of being a devoted CrossFit athlete). Super impressed by the facilities and staff. CrossFit Virtuosity is hands down the cleanest and most amenity-rich box I've ever experienced. As far as the workout, instructions were detailed and clear but not exhausting and redundant. The gym is also conveniently located adjacent to McCarren park, so we ran our two miles around the track, which was awesome. Stopped by to inquire about personal training only to stand around waiting to speak to someone. When I finally spoke to a staff member, I experienced ageism (he suggested that I work with trainer who works with older women) and was informed that he was too busy working with a client to provide further details (asked me to follow up with an email). This place is clearly not as inclusive as they purport to be. Got the message that they don't want my money and are not interested in working with anyone over 30, regardless of fitness level. They seem short staffed and not much interested in expanding their existing clientele. If you don't mind waiting and being judged without even discussing your actual fitness level, then check them out. Otherwise, caveat emptor/buyer beware. read more

This Crossfit gym is amazing. One the biggest Crossfit gyms I have seen in Williamsburg with all the equipment you need. Each class is different and focuses on a different lift so you are never bored. The classes are challenging (esp level 2) . What really makes the gym are the coaches. I really felt supported by the staff. The coaches know how to breakdown each move so its easy to learn how to lift properly and safely. I didn't have much experience when I joined and its amazing how much I have learned and how much more I can do in just 2 months of training (4x/ week). The staff and members make you feel really comfortable regardless of your abilities or level...no judgment. Level 1 classes are small (typically there are 4-8 people per class). The small classes allow for individual attention. Level 2 is more rigorous with less brakes and you are expected to know and feel comfortable with the skills learned in level 1but regardless of what level you are in, the coaches will always demonstrate the moves several times and correct form throughout the class. It's great for all levels, especially beginners :) read more

CrossFit gyms ("boxes") can vary drastically from one to the next. Yes, the equipment is important but the quality of the instruction and the caliber of your classmates are the most important elements that make one box incredible and the next uninspiring. CrossFit Virtuosity has very knowledgeable instructors who want your form to be perfect before you push yourself beyond what you're capable of. They encourage and challenge you. The gym is a great location with top-notch equipment. The environment is upbeat and encouraging with loyal gym-goers who are not too intense to laugh but are serious about their workout. I understand the addiction to a workout like Crossfit, however, I would not recommend it for those just beginning a workout regimen. As someone who is not in shape at all, but finally became very self-aware and am now trying to lose 40 pounds, I tried out the intro class at this gym. What Crossfit preaches--the motivation, the camaraderie--is not what I experienced. In their intro class, they put several VASTLY different fitness levels against each other in a timed rep competition, then displayed the times on the wall for all to see. Great if you were the marathon runner or the weight lifter who I was going against. Not so great for the out-of-shape folks like myself. I literally left with tears in my eyes from embarrassment. Unless you get a high off of embarrassment, it's not what I would consider healthy motivation. If the intro class was just divided by fitness levels, with a workout appropriate for THOSE levels, I feel my experience (and review) would be very different. read more

This place is amazing... wait, I may have drank the Kool-Aid. I can't speak too much of other gyms as this is my first "box" (joined in January 2018). I have been a competitive athlete since middle school: college swimming and water polo and even running several marathons. I been a member of several gyms since moving to NYC 12 years ago and attending classes never piqued my interest. This gyms pushes you psychically get uncomfortable in the right way and the right time. The Virtuosity coaches prioritize technique over speed and/or the ability to lift heavy weights- which is difficult to . I dropped in a few CrossFit gyms on west coast, and they throw you into the WOD. The facilities are always kept clean: 3 gender neutral restrooms, shelves to safely store your personal belongings, changing rooms and showers with towel rentals. Cons: 2 things that may deter you from joining: 1. Its very intimidating joining a gym, but can be more intimidating when joining a CrossFit gym. Come with a friend, it'll soften the blow. 2. Starting at Level 1 is annoying. However, it makes complete sense. You need to learn basic movements prior to moving into Level 2. There's a good number of members at Level 2 classes, and you'll end up frustrated if the coach keeps explaining to you proper mechanics of an air squat. It doesn't hurt to test out a gym. If you don't like it, move on. If like it, join- they have all sorts of kool-aid flavors! read more

From the cult-like following of many of its fans, to the reports of injuries and poor coaching, to that one person who spams your social media with the handstand selfies and the #eatingclean... Forget about all that, put your assumptions aside, and swing by CrossFit Virtuosity for a free intro class. Here's what you'll get: - A welcoming environment, no matter your background. No intimidation of newbies, no cliquishness, no scammy membership terms. - Expert coaching: I can't stress the importance of this enough. You will be trained by athletes from a diverse set of backgrounds, bringing wisdom from various disciplines to your workout (pro sports, bodybuilding, yoga, gymnastics, nutrition...you're getting the full spectrum of fitness here.) These aren't your "weekend seminar certified" coaches like I've seen in some CF gyms; these folks actually know what they're doing. - Safe: a ruthless focus on proper form - and that's a good thing. Before starting Crossfit I had slipped a disc, and was nervous that it might flare up again. Hasn't happened, despite using heavy weights. You will be made to practice the movements until you can do them in your sleep, and will scale down if your form is unsafe. - Challenging workouts: Whatever your level, the workouts will be tough. The good news is, you will make rapid progress - and will have a ton of fun in doing so. - Great culture: it's a great place to meet cool people if you're new to the area, and there are always a few social activities going on outside of the gym. No one in the world is worse than someone who does cross fit. Unless you combine other types of obnoxious people into one. Like a vegan atheist. That's a pretty terrible person right there. Or at least, not a person you want to be stuck with at a party. That said, this place is actually really cool. I've been going here for a couple of years, and none of my friends know about it, because my primary fitness goal was to be someone who does cross fit but doesn't talk about it. I share this with you because I want you to know that it's possible to enjoy a gym like this (see? I refuse to call it a "box" because that's stupid.) and not become a kool-aid-drinking cult member. The coaches are great, and they give you a lot of helpful instruction. I thought this was just normal until I went to another gym that was like the Hunger Games of cross fit. They just threw you in there and you were kind of on your own until you hurt yourself bad enough to call it quits. At Virtuosity, they'll correct every little thing, and that makes you so much less likely to get hurt. Also, no one tries to pressure you to add more weight or whatever. (Those people are the worst. What do they get out of it?) I only joined a cross fit gym because it happened to be the closest gym to my house. If the closest gym had been a Curves, I'd have gotten a sex change and joined. That's the effort I'll go to to not have to travel far to exercise. But I'm glad that Virtuosity was closer than Curves. Because there comes a time in every workout where I say to myself, "this is the point where I'd quit and go home if I weren't in a group class with coaches and shit all around." And every time I leave, I feel good. So yeah. Join, or don't join. But if you're after a cross fit type of place, you're not going to find a better one. read more

Before starting Crossfit Virtuosity in October 2013, I exercised regularly, but it was always the same thing, running and lifting very light weights (I loved Jillian Michaels & Insanity). I had basically plateaued with my exercising, and while I was in shape, it wasn't doing much for me. It was also SUPER BORING. At first I was nervous about joining, all those rumors of Crossfit being a cult-like group where everyone eats paleo and never stops talking about Crossfit, but I knew after going to the free into class, I needed to do it. (Also, not everyone eats paleo haha) The level one program really helped me because I slowly learned how to do everything and built my confidence before moving onto the harder, level 2 workouts. All the coaches are very attentive and constantly reviewing skills to avoid injury. My body tone is much better since joining and I'm consistently pushing myself to better.I love all that I can track all my performances and see everyone else's as well, it's very motivating to me. The community and the coaches at Virtuosity is really what makes the gym stand out. Before Virtuosity, I never knew anyone at the gyms or classes I went to, and no one ever told me if I was doing anything with poor form. All the coaches here make an effort to get to know everyone by name quickly and make them feel at home. I've also never had any problem with putting my membership on hold when I'm on vacation, etc, and have experienced nothing but friendliness with the entire staff. It is expensive, but let's face it, this is New York, where people pay over $35 a class at boutique fitness studios (been there, done that), and this is a far better, more well-rounded workout. It's totally worth it to give it a try if you're looking to change up your fitness routine and really challenge yourself! read more

I'd always wanted to join an affiliate, so when I moved into a sublet two blocks away it seemed like a sign. Little did I know I would stumble into the best community of fit folk one could imagine. The people I know through CFV are some of the most courteous, supportive, and motivated bunch I've ever met. The coaches are great. They're smart and patient, but always spurring you on to the next PR. You know that teacher or professor that you were always deathly afraid of disappointing, so you always tried extra hard in class? That's pretty much how I feel around the crew at Virtuosity. Anyhow, TL;DR : Want to get in shape, learn a lot, and meet a bunch of great people? I have been going to CFV since March, and the difference in my health and fitness has been incredible. My routine combines attending at least 3 "level one" classes per week (usually more) plus one personal training session with Kurt. All of the trainers at this gym are elite-level trainers who are fun people to be around despite no-BS asskickers. Be forewarned: Crossfit is not for everybody. If you want to go to a nice, clean, comfortable place to chat with people and dick around on machines for 45 minutes a day, skip Crossfit. It is ultra-challenging, no matter who you are or what your fitness level is. Workouts are scaled to fit the fitness level of the person doing the workout (we have 20 year olds and 60 year olds, the very, very fit and the less so), but that doesn't mean that the person who arrives in somewhat sloppy, out of shape condition (like me) gets a break. You will lift heavy weight, lift and press your bodyweight, and run. There is no A/C, there are no machines (except rowing machines) and there is no coddling. If you aren't willing to put in hard work, and you aren't willing to sweat, and you aren't willing to feel pain, and you aren't willing to push yourself, Crossfit (and this gym) will break your spirit. If you are willing to put in the work, you will be rewarded with tremendous improvement in your form, technique and fitness level, a community of great people to motivate you, and an absolutely incredible sense of accomplishment at what you are able to achieve every day. I will probably never be the type of athlete that the best people at CFV are. But I will be the best athlete that I can be. I'm afraid that whoever wrote the 8/14/11 review below entirely missed the point of Crossfit and of the ethic and attitude of this gym. While the workouts are timed, at no point have I heard anyone say not to focus on proper form and technique, including yelling at me during the workout to correct mine. Not only is a majority of many classes spent honing proper technique and stretching, but if you have attended more than once (unlikely in the case of this person's Yelp review) and actually paid attention, your form and technique should be at least adequate to do the workouts properly (especially since you are required to take mandatory "on ramp" series of sessions before you can attend the main classes. read more

Disclaimer: CrossFit Virtuosity is the only CrossFit gym I've ever tried, so I don't have anything to compare it to. HOWEVER: I've been going to CFV for 6 months and I absolutely love it. The coaches are very personable and professional. The programming is very smart, challenging, and versatile. I love the feeling of community that comes from working out with these folks (the coaches and my fellow athletes) over the course of time. I've seen huge improvement in my fitness since starting at CFV. If you're not familiar with CrossFit, and you're concerned about the cost ($225-250 per month), think about it this way: it's basically group personal training. Even though sometimes the classes are sometimes large (up to about 20 people), the coaches are very good about giving personal attention. read more

I've been a gym goer for nearly 10 years now, and in the last 3 months at CFV everything has changed. I used to think the only way to get good cardio is to run for an hour. Now I'm just about ready to die from a 20 minute workout! Plus, the gym isn't something that I feel obligated to do, I look forward to the workouts! The classes are great, and the prices are the best that I've seen. I just signed up for 6 months of unlimited classes, something I never would have expected myself to do. The CFV community is part of the experience. Everyone is really friendly, and normal, not the weird gym bums you try to avoid. My wife has been a member for almost two years now, and she dragged me to a personal training session with Kurt nearly exactly a year ago. At first I was intimidated by the big groups of sweaty people lifting lots of weight. By the time my first session was over (I started with personal training), three different people came by to introduce themselves. They were no longer sweaty nameless faces, and I no longer felt out of place. Since then, I've stopped by the gym between 2-4 times per week for personal training, the occasional crossfit or gymnastics class, and to pick up our Kettlebell Kitchen meals. My favorite part about the gym is the community they've attracted. Everyone is incredibly nice, generous, and genuine. It's an incredibly diverse group (not just white males trying to 'get buff'), and I've invited members to my birthday party, attended a halloween party thrown by one of the coaches, and generally found Virtuosity members creeping into my personal life. My second favorite aspect is their focus on safety. I have an auto-immune condition called Lupus that manifests itself in the form of a connected tissue disease. My tendons get very tight and moving them becomes incredibly painful. The trainers have each taken time out of each class to understand my condition, put together a custom plan for me, and check in on me routinely to make sure everything is going alright, making adjustments if it's not. I also have a pre-class routine that Matt and Kurt helped me put together that helps loosen my tendons and prevent injuries. In general, the gym is very cognizant of safety issues and all of the trainers on staff are watching for people who are in danger of hurting themselves and they step in with polite and constructive advice to fix poor positioning/form. Finally, the trainers are all great people and none of them are rude, arrogant, or insensitive (which generally describes most gyms I've been to). I've taken class or lessons from Matt, Kurt, and Joey and enjoyed all of them. Give it a shot, say hello to people when you come in, and get to know the coaches - they are great. read more

We had the pleasure of doing a WOD here on our vacation and made the special trip out to Brooklyn just to get a sweat in at this specific box. It was well worth the extra distance. Our coach was "Elasti" and she is probably the best coach that I had while visiting a CrossFit box. We were going through an Olympic lifting movement for the WOD and she broke it down in very specific steps and explained each one so clearly that I started incorporating them into my own classes! The space is huge with lots of toys! I will definitely be back when I'm visiting NY again. read more

I've been going to CrossFit Virtuosity for almost two months now (since I moved from Brazil) and it has been nothing but an amazing experience! Even though I had a good experience working out previous to this, I had (and still have, I guess) no experience with the Olympic liftings, gymnastics and other complicated exercises... and all the coaches that I had the chance to train with in CrossFit Virtuosity have had amazing didactics when teaching them! I've been to many crossfit boxes around the country while on business trips and I've learned that a Crossfit box is only as good as the coaches who call it home. You will probably find a cool group of people to work out with at any box you go to. You will sweat. But at the end of the day it's the quality of the coaching that separates a great gym from the rest, and Virtuosity is a great gym. I've been a member at Crossfit Virtuosity for nearly three years and every time I visit another box I'm reminded how lucky I am to enjoy such high quality coaching on a regular basis. What I've observed is that the coaches at Virtuosity are passionate about helping the members improve, get fitter, have fun, and stay safe while doing it. They are also passionate about continuously improving themselves as coaches. They enjoy their jobs and it shows. They have years of experience and diverse backgrounds. In addition to the standard crossfit protocols, each of the coaches at Virtuosity has some other area of special focus and knowledge, be it gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, kettle bells, competition, or mobility. This gives a depth to the overall program at Virtuosity that is invaluable, especially once you get past those first 6-12 months of crossfit. There may be boxes that are closer to your home, or that provide clean towels and cucumber water, or that are a bit cheaper, but at the end of the day, it's the coaches that will have the biggest impact on your experience, and the coaching team at Virtuosity is superb. read more

I've been going to CrossFit Virtuosity for nearly 2 years and continue to be impressed with the level of coaching I get. Before every work out, the coach reviews the movements in the workout and discusses the appropriate scaling. If you have a weakness or an injury, you can make adjustments. I suspect those who complain of injuries didn't speak up. If you're shopping for a CrossFit gym, I would recommend Virtuosity without hesitation. I have taken two classes at Crossfit Virtuosity and have LOVED them. Last night's workout made me realize just how much I need to be there! The coaches are so knowledgable and are able to tell you how to modify or scale back until you are strong enough to do the full movement. Monday night's class was with Coach Chazz & Assistant Coach Greta lead. Chazz, you are amazing. You love what you do & it shows. I am not new to fitness, but have been out of the loop so starting over has been difficult. Coach Chazz really pays attention to ensure members have the correct form. I was quite annoyed that, in order to work out at this box, they wanted me to take an "intro to crossfit" class. Even though I have several years of crossfit experience (I have been doing other workouts for about 6 months) and I am in great shape. This is a pain because its only offered on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons. Other than that, this box looked fine and has a great reputation. Love this place! I've been going for a few months and only have positive things to say. The coaches are all very motivating, provide good guidance and tips, and get to know you. The gym itself is nice and big, the equipment is well cared for and abundant. The schedule works well, though it would be nice to have additional open gym time. I would really love to write a review of the class but I wasn't even given a chance to do so. Here's my story. I first heard about Crossfit Virtuosity because I was looking to drop-in on a crossfit class around Williamsburg. I check their visitor drop-in policy and lo and behold, this came up: "Visiting CrossFitters with at least 3 months of CrossFit experience are welcome to drop in to any regularly scheduled Level 1 or Level 2 CrossFit class. No reservation is required, just show up about 10 minutes early to sign a waiver." Perfect. I had 6 months of experience. What could go wrong? I get there and I talk to a "trainer" named Joey. I use quotation marks because I wasn't there long enough to find out he was a trainer. He asks me a series of questions. What's your name? What's your favorite workout? I answer: "I love burpees and I love doing those squatters? Where you lift and squat?" He looks at me suspiciously and goes: "You mean a thruster? Do you know what the Fran is?" Okay, first thing. I have done Crossfit for over 6 months religiously but that does NOT mean that I will have all the WODs memorized. Joey seems to have forgotten that some of us aren't good with names but know how to interact around the workouts with good guidance and training. Isn't that why you're called "trainers?" He then gives me a speech about how he "trusts me" BUT I couldn't just drop into level 1, only Level 2, basically kicking me out. The next class was apparently a Level 2 class and I couldn't stay there because I wasn't "experienced." He tells me that I can come back another night. Great, I work late on the weekdays so I'm SURE that will happen. So I think that I'm in the wrong and check the policy again because I could have sworn it said Level 1 or Level 2. I check back to the policy above. OH. LEVEL 1 OR LEVEL 2. It also says that the class is Level 1 AND Level 2 online. Interesting, Joey. Way to not align with what your company says. Call my Crossfit Studio City trainers. I have great form, I work my ass off, and I haven't gotten hurt once in the past 6 months. Sure, I may not remember ALL the names of the workouts but each class, the trainer should go through and explain the movements anyway. I'm beyond annoyed that I wasn't even allowed to drop in, even though the policy states otherwise. CrossFit Virtuosity is the real deal. If you live nearby you owe it to yourself to head on over. In the past years CrossFit has gone from a fringe fitness movement to something more mainstream. In the process gyms have strayed from the basics, becoming more concerned with neon leggings and Instagram likes. What makes CrossFit Virtuosity so special isn't that they've retained the fundamentals of CrossFit but they've held the torch and raised the standard. I first visited the original CFV location about 5 years ago to take my CFL1. What I saw then I still see today a gym with a beating pulse. CrossFit trainers aren't always great at helping people break down and understand complex movements. But based on my one session with Juan Blanco, I was crazy impressed with this place. If you live in or are visiting the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, head over to CrossFit Virtuosity. My first experience with CFV was in Central Park when they were doing WODs at the Pinetum. I was never a full-time member but I did do quite a few drop-ins for WODs and open gym on Sundays. I did an apprenticeship under Keith and learned quite about being a coach. Pros - It's caters to people who want to improve their health, fitness and train with a great community. It has all the equipment that you would expect in a premiere level CrossFit. Cons - It's ain't easy. Not good for people who want a leisurely workout. No elliptical machines with mounted TV's. read more

Hooray for crossfit virtuosity! I was not a person to regularly workout, even though I'm a modern dancer who could use some extra strength/endurance training.. I was always bored and unmotivated when trying to workout at a gym. Well, the classes here get me motivated while having fun (which includes a little swearing now and then when you feel you've reached your limit). But after finishing a class there, I feel so energized, and I've noticed a difference in my yoga practice. And in my massage practice, my shoulders/neck are no longer in pain after 4 or 5 sessions. Disclaimer: I've only been to this gym once while traveling. My home box is at CrossFit Santa Clara in the Bay Area. I decided to check out this gym because a few of my friends recommended it and because the members were pretty active in the CrossFit Games Open. I've been CrossFitting for about 6 months. One of the biggest assets of this gym is the trainers and the scope of knowledge they have in CrossFit, Yoga, Nutrition, and health. Keith (the founder of the gym) can tell you immediately what you've done wrong and how to correct it from getting an Olympic lift right to getting the most out of a certain stretch. Another thing I particularly like about this gym is that there were 2 trainers staffing 1 class (12:30 on Thursday) for a class of about 8 people. It felt like personal training! Both trainers watched everyone like hawks and gave really useful feedback. Again, this gym should focus more on their abilities to respond to client bookings then living on yelp. Not one email went to spam, so don't try and blame it on that. Mistakes happen, but please don't make excuses. I feel like you take your clients for granted once they commit. I'm a stock broker, Give me 500 to invest and I'll let you know when I feel like it if your investment is paying dividends... Sound fair? A fair small business owner knows where there business comes from, and that's word of mouth and referrals. I came in because I wanted to start strength training and building up some muscle. Ariel was an amazing trainer and helped me figure out exactly what exercises to do to get the results I wanted. He was great to work with - knowledgeable, super supportive and really pushed me, which was exactly what I wanted. The space is super cool and open, staff is friendly. CrossFit Virtuosity is AMAZING! After attending twice a week for the past month and a half the results are in.... Not only have I lost 5 solid lbs, but I've lost 3.5 inches, after being stuck in place for a few months. Running is what I used to do to get my body in shape and after a while it just stopped working...I had to run longer and harder to make a difference or just maintain my activity level. CrossFit owners extraordinaire, Sam and Keith, create fun and challenging workouts that test each individual's limits. I'm often surprised at what my body is capable of during the classes...including flexibility, strength and endurance. I'm still running, but I rely more on CrossFit to increase my stamina and cardiovascular training than an 18 mile run...I mean who has time for that anyway!?!? I always leave knowing I did my best even if I needed to modify an activity...like let's say pull-ups. You get to say how it's going to go and Keith and Sam won't let you give in to anything less. I work in Manhattan and the trip to Brooklyn is an easy 10 minute ride. After that, I'm headed home to NJ...yep another one that makes the trip because, well frankly, it's worth it and I've yet to find anything else that compares to what Keith and Sam have to offer. I blew out my shoulder in their free intro class. They had us sitting doing nothing most of the time, didn't warm uus up at all, then gave us a demanding sequence and told us to compete to see who could do it the fastest. No wonder I hurt myself. I can't imagine I'm the only one. This is simple carelessness, irresponsibility and ignorance of safe training practices. read more

I did the intro class last week and will never go back because of how the owner talked to me and treated me. The class starts with a 45 minute sales pitch, followed by a 5-10 minute workout. During the workout, the owner singled me out as having bad form/posture. The weight was too heavy for me after several repetitions, and I know I wasn't doing it perfectly, but I was doing the best I could. The owner proceeded to make fun of me for not doing it correctly, and told me I looked like an "old witch." How is that an OK thing to say to someone??? He pulled me away from the rest of the group and talked to me in a condescending manner, like he was purposefully trying to make me feel stupid. It was totally inappropriate. It also pushed me to keep doing the workout as fast as I could even though I wasn't strong enough to have the proper form, which is a dangerous way to work out. (On a side note, I'm athletic and have played competitive sports my whole life. I still work out a few times a week, so it's not like I was the most uncoordinated or wimpy person to ever walk through the door.) I can't believe this guy runs a business. It's not like this place is even nice (no air conditioning, showers, towels, etc.) or cheap. I'll find another CrossFit place where I'm treated with respect. read more

I don't agree with a trainer who tells who you having speed during exercises is all you need, and to forget about proper form and alignment.

I absolutely love CrossFit Virtuosity!!! I can't even find the words to describe how grateful I am to this gym, the coaches and all that is Virtuosity. It's such a wonderful family and community. I've never felt better about myself; mind and body. read more

ive been going to crossfit virtuosity for a little over a year now. i discovered it when i moved to the area and did a google search for gyms. i wasnt totally sure what i was getting myself into especially since im not the most athletic person...or really that coordinated for that matter. however ive found it to be a great place to go. in any given class will be an array of levels - from real athletes and personal trainers to people kind of suck at working out (me) and everyone gets a great work out. sometimes im sore for days after! the coaches know what they are doing. they are real form sticklers and push you to work your hardest. they are also accommodating for any kind of injuries people have. CFV has nutrition advice and even has a gym wide challenge a couple times a year that is very motivating to eat correctly. overall im extremely glad i found CFV - not only do they push me to get stronger and be faster but its been a great community of people to associate and become friends with. ive never been to any other crossfit place, but i have been to a LOT of other gyms and ive never seen results or had this much motivation from anywhere else. read more

I want to give Virtuosity one star because the customer service is so bad. But I'm compelled to give it two stars because I like the coaches and I had a pretty good experience until the change in ownership. Bottom line: They are not honoring a block of prepaid classes because they expire after one year. After having been a member for about a year, I bought a package of 20 classes. Because of a couple of serious injuries, I was unable to use them within the one-year time frame. Ownership was not willing to roll over those classes despite my interest in further membership. Rolling the classes that I already paid for would have cost them nothing and would have kept me a member. I had been going to Virtuosity off-and-on for a while. I really liked the coaches and the community. I want to go back. However, my request to roll over my classes was rejected in person, and they will not respond to my emails, which I sent over a month ago. This poor customer policy is very short-sighted and has turned a huge supporter into vocal critic. Fortunately another Box has opened up down the street. I wouldn't be surprised to see a substantial migration. I hope that the new ownership figures it out before they completely destroy what was once a great community of customers. ***Comments after owner response: This response clearly demonstrates the lack of consideration for customers. To paraphrase, "We are so popular right now that we don't care if you are a customer or not." And what's crazy is that I was often times one of the only people at the 6am class. read more

Great place to get in shape. I've been a member now for about 9 months, kind of on and off for the first few months. Since September I took the nutrition advice serious, and started being consistent here. I was not particularly strong at all, I couldn't do a pull-up when I first came here. I've always been out of shape, never hugely fat, nor skinny, always in between. In 2 months between September and Halloween I lost 18 lbs and gained enough strength to do pull-ups, among other things. Since then it' s just been getting better and better. I'm down 4 pant sizes, and keep getting stronger. The workouts are approachable from a novice skill level, and they have advanced classes if you are already an everyday techno viking. One of the things that stands out about this system is peer interaction. Since you are working in classes of about 10 or so people of all experience levels, you get pushed beyond your limits by your peers. You want to see your workout friends get better, and they want to see you get better. The workouts are different everyday, and usually have a strength component, and a conditioning component. This is how I've both lost my beer belly, and gained an impressive(for me) amount of muscle. Bottom line: I feel good, and I believe in this gym. read more
