Scam alert! I wish I…read moreread these reviews prior to signing up for the 6 week challenge. I was motivated and hopeful, especially due to prior positive crossfit experiences at other gyms and learned a big lesson about reading reviews first. To be clear: The 6 week challenge which is falsely advertised as free costs $632. If you lose 25 pounds they say you get your money back. Doing the math, this type of program endorses disordered exercise and eating. It's not healthy to lose that amount of weight in 6 weeks They exploit those that have unrealistic goals, financially. Personally, I am writing because I was supposed to start the 6 week challenge right before COVID and they continued to bill be throughout the gym closures. I explained that I would be willing to transfer the money I already paid into a regular membership following COVID and they refused. I called my credit card company since it is illegal to charge for a gym that is closed due to COVID. The credit card company advised to file a claim. They responded by calling collections. I am confident that the credit card company will handle this for me, but am sickened by these practices overall. Mostly, I am genuinely worried about the mental health of potential consumers in the future. The actual classes are extremely variable since the staff are not well trained. The staff themselves told me that they are not treated properly and that there are is little, inconsistent communication with management. It shows in the classes, and the workouts are not as effective as other crossfit programs I have done as a result.

I have mixed feelings about this. The staff is great, classes are good, great accountability…read morecoaches and awesome community. However, management is awful. They are scammers. Joe ( who refused to provide his last name and direct number) is the most horrible and greedy person I ever encounter. I take he is one of the owners. After the pandemic broke, I reached out to one of the coaches and asked for my membership to be cancelled, the reason being: no longer living in the city and financial hardships. I got an "ok" text message. Months later, I get a charge on my credit card. I was connected to Joe, who wanted to charge me for another month as a cancelation fee, which clearly is not part of the contract, and refused to give me credit for the month charged. After many back and forth emails, he finally understood and agreed a proper notice was given and no extra charges were to be charged to my account. I have on an email with his own words agreeing to this. They stole my money, he is a thief. I had to call my credit company to dispute the charge. They settled to give me a refund, which I was happy. But later, they send me to collections???? For something he agreed and settled?? Talk about ethics. Stay away from this gym, there are far better gyms with better customer service and honesty than WillyB. They are scammers, and as much as I hate to say this: they deserve to close for their terrible customer service ethics.

From outside, it may not look like much, but the door actually opens to several flights of stairs. The studio itself felt so cute and homey, with cubbies for your belongings, a coat rack, and a bathroom. I know I'm not athletic, but I really felt it here when I struggled just standing on the surfboard. The wobbling and instability was unlike any feeling ever, and will require some getting used to if you don't have good balance or hip mobility. Our instructor, Aaron, was the founder and a cool positive instructor. I loved that he took note of our names to give us shoutouts. But as soon as we started, his instructions were easier said than done, because I could not keep up for the life of me. I do wish there was slightly more personal attention or feedback throughout the class because he would constantly compliment everyone despite seeing me over there causing a ruckus. It took me the whole session to understand how the sensitive surfboard shifts according to my weight pressure. While the class was definitely not beginner friendly, even I was surprised by the improvement of everyone and myself by the end of the class. I truly think these tough exercises, if practiced frequently, will help us when surfing. This is probably the most challenging class I took so far, that it left me sore for days, but inspired to try actual surfing. If you're looking for a different type of workout class one day, check out Surfset!

It has a similar classes to Barrys, SoulCycle, or F45, but what makes it stand out is the setup, a large training center with separate rooms for different class styles. It feels like one of the city's best kept fitness secrets. The space is modern and spacious, the workouts are excellent, and the classes are never overcrowded. Highly recommend.

I started with the Solido class which was amazing and targeted glutes and abs. It literally flew by and I was sweating! Next I tried Savage, which rotated between 4 minutes of different weight training and sculpting moves and then 4 minutes of treadmill work. Their treadmills have handy guides for athletic levels and intensity and the incline and speed are easily adjusted. I liked this class and according to my Apple Watch, burned a TON of calories here, although I do not recommend doing this class fasted as jumping back and forth and the starting and stopping from moves and sprints made me quite dizzy at times. This class was on the first floor. Finally, I tried a Tonic class, which was very weights focused and had active breaks in between the working portions. This class was on the lower level of the studio. Each class has an instructional video ahead of time and moves demoed on the screens the entire time with a timer for the moves and timers to show your progress in the class which I really appreciated. The music in every class I took was always super fun and a mix of EDM, hip hop and Latin music. They also offer a spin class I believe called Stride and a boxing class called Jab The studio itself is amazing with lots of neon lights to set the mood, plants, tons of reflective details in the locker rooms and on the lockers and gorgeous seating in the lobby. The lobby has a bar with tea, coffee, some waters and pre packaged protein drinks. I do wish they had more of a selection of pre and post workout choices but I'm sure those will come! They let me know soon they'll be offering alcohol as well and free wine if you take a class on Friday! You get a hand towel for class and if you want to use their showers, they provide towels. The bathrooms are gorgeous and have amenities provided. Some of the best studio showers I've been in with plenty of room to hang your toiletries. The staff was super polite and outgoing and everything was clean and tidy. They even have a clothing shop with unique and cute workout sets from a Latino owned brand. I can't say good things enough about this studio and hope they expand their class offerings!

[This review is specifically for their downtown Brooklyn location]…read more This gym does not provide a safe environment for women. In the locker room, there are chairs directly facing the changing area. This invites patrons to sit on the couch, with phones in their face, directly facing members who are changing. Three separate times I have turned around, while unclothed, and seen members using phones that are pointing directly at me (including being on FaceTime). While most members would put their phone when asked, some won't, claiming that photography is not allowed, but phone usage is permitted. To be clear: A person holding a phone up in a locker room creates a reasonable fear of recording, regardless of what they claim to be doing. This is such an egregious violation of privacy, and honestly displays a lack of common sense from management. Further, it should not be the job of members to police one another; it should be the job of management to provide a safe place for changing before and after workouts. Management has so far ignored my messages about this complete lack of respect for privacy.

I visit NYC every so often for business trips, and have always struggled to find a gym I like that supports guest passes. I can happily say my search is finally over -- I'll definitely be coming back to GYM NYC every time I'm visiting the city! They sell 1-week passes for about $170, and day passes for $40. For me, it worked out better to get 4 day passes compared to the 1-week pass, but for those who would be visiting for a week and need to go 5+ sessions, that 1-week pass would be for you. Compared to EQX, the gym is way less crowded (even though it's smaller) and has all the equipment you need! The equipment is modern and plentiful: there are 2 flat bench press setups, one incline bench press, 3 deadlift platforms, and 4 squat racks. For accessory work there's also 3 adjustable flat benches and plenty of dumbbells. I usually go around 7am, which gets pretty crowded at EQX -- but this morning even by 7:30 there were still only a few other people in the gym. Amazing!
