I've also tried their tangerine flow and flow + which are also good but better if you want a more typical flow class vs restorative stretch. Eight years ago, I wrote a review of Tangerine that started out with me relating how I'm not a yoga guy. And I wasn't. Well, to update you (and my review), I'm still not. But I'm trying to be! Why, you ask? Pretty nosy of you, but I'll bite. My reasons are threefold: 1. I no longer play soccer because of physical and temporal limitations. Since that was essentially my only form of exercise, I needed to pick something else up regularly. 2. Yoga seems to be good for mind and body. That's a win. 3. Most importantly, I came out of the pandemic with a manbun (turns out I really like not getting my hair cut). As such, I feel like people assume I do yoga already, so I might as well actually get into it. What's a little disappointing is that even after eight years of doing yoga almost once every four years (up until last month), I am still a fairly hopeless beginner. I'm still wildly inflexible, and still not that bright. But whereas I used to like Tangerine, now I love Tangerine. Regular visits (I'm trying for twice a week lately) have reinforced what a nice community it is. The staff is great (friendly, welcoming, sweet). The space is great (clean, comfortable, well-laid out). The cute puppy that is occasionally here is the best. And the instructors are wonderful. I've only had a few of them because my schedule/children limit the times I can come in, but the ones I've had are all funny, cool, and badass. Ariel, Liz, Abby, whoever else I'm forgetting. They make me feel comfortable, they make me laugh, they pick good music, they help me get better, and they never judge me (out loud) for not knowing what I'm doing. On occasion, they will even use their hands (only if you're comfortable with it) to show me how to improve, which is extremely helpful. I can understand how touching me under even the best circumstances is completely repugnant (something my wife doesn't even like to do), and they do it while I'm a disgusting, sweaty mess. That's dedication. Most of the classes are for "All Levels" which means they have to cater to both horrible beginners (me) and insanely advanced folks (that guy that "warms up" by doing impossible head/handstands, and weird contortions that would tear my back permanently for all time).* And they do it well, for the most part. I realize this is probably just me, but the biggest problem I've encountered is that sometimes the instruction moves too quickly for me. I literally don't speak the language yet (Sanskrit I think?), and I'm still trying to process what I'm being told to do when everyone else is four moves ahead. I'm getting the hang of it, but it's slow going, what with my tiny brain and all. All that said, I'm down with this. Maybe it's because I now have children that I need to get away from, but if you know me, the fact that I'm legitimately enjoying a "workout class" and coming in regularly is completely out of character and downright shocking, really. It's truly a testament to Tangerine's hospitality. I love how nice everyone is. I love how I feel better about everything after I go. I love that they provide a mat and a towel that I will inevitably soak all the way through for the class, and sometimes a cold towel for afterward that feels as good anything that exists in life. This review is primarily for the prenatal classes at Tangerine. I bought a new student 5 class pack which turned out to be just the right amount of classes I could do over the three months the class pack was good for with one prenatal class on the schedule per week. That class taught by Abigail is great for fostering community both inside and outside the studio. I also appreciated that Tangerine proactively sent an email to me a couple weeks before my class pack expired as opposed to just potentially letting it lapse with credits still to go without a reminder. Other perks of the studio include mats and blocks always included, nice bolsters and blanket, and plenty of lockers for storing stuff during class. read more

I love this place. There are definitely varying styles depending on the teacher. I love Matty's classes the most. I only go once a week but am already getting better at a lot of hard poses I could never even attempt before. I do wish it was a little hotter and I'm not sure why it isn't but you still get a good sweat on. And they provide a mat and towel. Not like other places that charge you $10 for both in an already expensive class. They have cool special events like sound bath classes. Highly recommend read more

I have taken 10+ classes here and have really enjoyed the studio and style of classes. There is only one yoga room (no mirrors) and classes are in dim lighting. They provide mats and towels for you free of charge, which is really nice. I especially love the classes by Liz - she is funny and personable, and encourages you to be grateful and gentle with your body. Classes are quite fast-paced flows. Hands down my favorite yoga studio! instructors are kind and knowledgeable and offer modifications as well as form corrections during class. I also don't know of any other yoga studio that offers yoga therapy! Yoga therapy combines application of yogic tools--postures/exercises, breathwork, meditation techniques, and more--to address an individual's physical, mental, and emotional needs. Sakina and Laura are both professionally trained in yoga therapy. I had my first session with Sakina and I can't say enough good things about it! Everything I want out of a hot yoga class. Kind instructors who still manage to push you past where you thought you could go. Lots of specific and actually implementable cues, especially as you build toward thorny positions. Hot enough to be useful without getting lethal. And they taught me handstand, for which I'm eternally in their debt. read more

I tried a class here with class pass and I really enjoyed it. The instructor Abby really knows what she's doing. I loved the fluid movements and intuitive quality to her series. The room was heated and dimly lit which I loved as I use to be a Bikram yogi. So 90 degrees is perfect. Not too hot, just right to stretch the body. Her music added to the class in a nice way. She did hands on corrections if you wanted. Cared about alignment. Only complaint is the tiny dressing room. read more

Instruction: 5/5 (I took my class with Tamara and she was wonderful with the adjustments and overall class structure) Facilities: 3/5 (pretty crammed locker room space with a single bathroom stall. Free towels could use a reboot given the tattered shape they appear to be in. I skipped the eucalyptus towels after class for that reason. Did not love that there were dogs running around on the mats before the start of class. This is nyc. That is gross.) Cleanliness: 3/5 (was appalled to see that the mats were simply sprayed down by the clients and reused for next classes. It's hot yoga so I'd expect a deeper clean to get the smell and sweat out) Class: 3/5 (super, super cramped space in a packed class which makes it impossible to stretch out without knocking over your neighbor) All in all, decent yoga studio. The classes here are pretty consistent challenging power yoga flows which is great if that is what you are looking for. Some of the teachers in particular are very knowledgeable and provide great holistic information as part of their teaching. I enjoy the hot aspect and love the great sweat and workout. What I don't like is the ridiculously cramped 'locker room.' There is no availability of any lockers in the open area outside, so if you have valuables you want to secure, you MUST enter the locker room. This alone requires some pretty aggressive maneuvering, and if you are at all concerned about being polite you will fail. The last time I was in there, a woman actually pushed me out of the way as I was headed for a locker (one of the last open ones available closer to the locker room entrance), then took that locker, and proceeded to block my way to go further into the locker room because she started taking off her clothes to change right in front of me. As I was paused there in horror, another woman walked up behind me and 'gave me permission' to push other people out of the way to get to a locker because 'this is New York City.' The classes here are pretty consistently 100% packed, so this locker room and general competitive factor to even get a decent spot in the studio exists for pretty much every class. Once you are in the studio things are fine, as noted in my first paragraph, but I always leave here pretty irritated because I think that the general type of person who loves and frequents this studio is not the type of person I prefer to be around. There is also a lot of scrambling at the end of each class to clean your mat then wait in a line to hang your mat up in a room outside the studio space. I prefer to go to the other neighborhood hot studio on Remsen Street which has a much more civilized atmosphere, lockers in the common areas that do not cause congestion, and there you just leave your mat on the floor in the studio at the end of class avoiding that congestion too. read more

If first impressions are any indication, this might be my new hot yoga home. I walked in last night (from the freezing cold) and was greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome. I thought they confused me with a customer they already knew, but no, they were being super friendly and inviting. The guy at the counter explained to me that class starts in 5 minutes but that it's totally OK for me to get dressed (or undressed) and walk right in. This immediately comforted me as I hate being late! Check-in was a breeze. He took my information down pretty quickly, put me in their system and gave me the option of just trying one class or purchasing a package, after the class is done, to see how I felt about it. I felt so incredibly taken care of and I hadn't even stepped foot into the room yet. The yoga instructor was next to me and we chatted briefly. She checked in with me to ask if this was my first time (also really nice of them). The locker room is pretty small, but still totally worth it considering all the perks. They handed me a towel and inside the room was a mat already placed on the floor and waiting for me. All of these things are so, so small but they really do add up and amount to a wonderful experience. The instructor began the class with a nice warm up and then we got right into it. She had a great energy about her which made for a good vibe in class. They also played music, which surprised me a little bit (never took hot yoga with music before) but she incorporated it in an interesting way. She highlighted checking in with ourselves and what certain poses might be bringing up for us. I particularly loved that she actually walked around the room to help adjust and move people as they needed it (including me) which felt awesome. I'll stop gushing about them now because I think you know how I feel. To sum up: they are incredibly friendly, gracious with their resources, well-priced, well-located and have great instructors leading their classes. Insane workout is what your going to get here. I've been to a few yoga studios & Tangerine is definitely the only place that makes me feel like I just felt the gym. After leaving here I always have this relaxed & calm feeling - Staff is ALWAYS Friendly - Never come here hungover. I love Tangerine. The way a smaller space has been opened up into an efficiently run and home-y space is amazing. The people are kind. The teachers love what they do, and are fantastic. Visited here last week and for the most part I thought it was a good session. As I've mentioned in my prior reviews, I am not the biggest Yogi, but will do it from time to time as I think it's beneficial. That being said, I thought Tangerine was a very nice yoga studio. The waiting area is sleek and the design is modern, basically everything I would expect from a boutique studio. I agree with some others that it is actually a lot smaller than it looks and feels, especially when people are waiting to go in or outside of the studio. Changing room is also quite small and when everyone is all hot and sweaty in there, it feels even smaller. The classroom itself is a decent size, but I would appreciate it if there was more than 4 inches between each person's mat. I definitely touched the person behind me a few times and I'm going to say he probably didn't like the idea of his hands touching my foot either. My instructor was Conor and you could tell he was really excited to be there, which is always a positive note. Tangerine is definitely not for the beginner yogi. You need to have at least an idea of what the poses are otherwise it will be hard to follow the sequences. He did not really demonstrate, so a lot of it was watching what other people were doing. Fortunately I'm not entirely a beginner so I did okay in there. I found it to be pretty enjoyable, partially because it was the 60 minute class. I might not have enjoyed it if it were a 90 minute class. The heat for the most part was bearable as well. Other notes: high quality yoga mats provided and first towel provided. And a cold towel post workout! It was scented too...could it be eucalyptus scented? Not really sure what that smells like though. read more

95 degrees and 40% humidity. This isn't just hot yoga... this is hot yoga done CORRECTLY. My body immediately starts to feel warm, more flexible than ever, and then proceeds to completely detox by sweating every drop of water out of my body. Amazing teachers that move me through a vinyasa flow perfectly, and a Friday night extended class that ends with a meditating yin practice is the perfect way to end the week. On top of it all, their front desk staff is very knowledgable and helpful and keep check-ins running smoothly! *pro tips: they provide the mats and 1 towel, and have water for purchase. I'm sad to say that this yoga studio is no longer worth going to. I recently showed up to a class two minutes late and they had already given away my spot. What's more, they refused to offer a refund. I sort of understand giving away my place in class (after all, I was a couple minutes late) but it left a really sour taste in my mouth that they wouldn't even offer a refund, even after I explained that I had to get a babysitter and travel in the pouring rain. It seems downright greedy and counter to the ethos of community that they put forth. They profited off my spot *twice* by refusing a refund and giving away my spot to someone else. Again, I was late by *two minutes.* I've been going to this studio for over a year and will say that most of the instructors are great (except for one male instructor who lingered several moments too long "correcting" my hips). But there are hundreds of yoga studios in Brooklyn, and yoga teachers typically teach at many studios. There is nothing unique about this studio such that they could summarily dismiss customers and act in an avaricious manner. Heatwise, for example, has multiple locations that have more pleasant interiors, very similar classes, and you're not jammed in there like a sardine. Dealing with Tangerine Yoga feels like dealing with a budget airline. You are no more than a commodity - do not be fooled. read more

I don't understand why this place is so hyped. It is packed with people, no shower(huge disadvantage for hot yoga), and a incredibly small locker room. In my first class I booked in advance online and still my place was taken by somebody who just dropped in.(The class is fully booked) And if you arrive early you'll have to squeeze yourself in the reception area waiting for the room to be prepared. The instructors are loud, encourage you to exhale loudly every 2 minutes. The flows are fast. However the class is still not intense enough if you are not a beginner. The only pro for this place is the free towel and mat. But I'd rather use my own stuff. And did I mention that the price in this place is so unbeatably high. After I finish my new student packs I will never ever come back. read more

I'm so glad this place exists. I tried so many yoga studios in Brooklyn and Tangerine was the only one I wanted to go back to. The classes are challenging and interesting, each instructor bringing something new to the table. I always leave feeling better in my body and my brain. When this place says HOT they seriously mean it. Even though I've been doing hot yoga for 10 years I still am praying someone will open a door or turn the heat off 40 minutes into every class. To be honest I would love this studio even more if they would actually chill with the heat a little, especially in the summer months, but regardless I keep going back to get completely drenched in sweat by the end of every class. I don't feel like I was particularly centered, grounded and balanced after the practice. And again.. NO SHOWER. good thing that I live close by! Overall, I probably will keep going for a good workout.. and check out more classes to hopefully find a teacher who teaches more than the physical workout of yoga. But it doesn't seem like this would be my yoga home anytime soon. read more

I have been on the hunt for a Hot Vinyasa studio in Brooklyn for the past few months and have not had much luck until I came to Tanergine. It's very similar to my home studio in Philly, (no mirrors, hot room, small biz/family-owned vibes) and I felt amazing after my class. I took Tamara's class which was only an hour and really flew by. Her adjustments gave me LIFE and really completed my practice. She was extremely helpful and active throughout class, which is why they really deserve 5 stars. It was not too difficult for any level, and she offered different variations based on experience level. Tamara also made sure that every student had proper alignment which I really enjoyed, because you could tell how passionate she truly was about her class The room was very clean, which is extremely important. I think we have all taken a class where we see dust bunnies hopping around which really changes my mood altogether. One improvement they could make is possibly spraying an oil or cleaner in between classes. (I've seen Mrs.Myers used multiple times) you eventually get used to the smell, but you can tell everyone is working hard. She also did not play music, which was not make or break for me but would have been nice during our flow. I will definitely be returning and cannot wait for my next class! read more

The epitome of a yuppie commercial yoga studio. I've taken 4 classes here (I purchased a beginner's package). While this is a beautiful space, and convenient to get to via the A/C/G train, I have a very negative impression of the place based on the amount of people they shoe-horn into classes, disregarding the comfort and safety of the students. It's already on the expensive side ($20/class), and this tactic of fitting as many people as humanly possible into the room seems obnoxious and greedy. Further, the changing/locker rooms are tiny--people were packed in, sweaty elbows and knees jabbing everywhere, with several people lined up to get in as soon as someone exited. Very uncomfortable. As mentioned elsewhere, there are no showers. As another Yelper said, they don't cultivate a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The teachers are unexceptional, and one teacher, whose name I forget, was possibly the worst, gym-teacher-ish, unyogic teacher I've ever encountered (and I've done yoga everywhere in this city, including gyms and YMCAs). It's a shame, because I work very close by, but even with the convenience, I will not be coming back. There are so many less expensive, genuinely serene/spiritual, or just simply more comfortable places to do yoga, right in this neighborhood or surrounding areas. read more

I live in the building above this space and for months pondered as to what the new small retail space might be before it became THP Yoga. Perhaps a small handmade leather goods shop? For wallets and belts people! Get your mind out of the gutter. Perhaps it might be a locally sourced organic pressed juice shop?! Perhaps a small family owned empanadas shop?! The possibilities were endless and I pondered them for an embarrassing amount of time. When I first heard it was a yoga studio, I was severely disappointed. First, I'm a slightly larger man with the least amount of flexibility ever recorded in human history. I've been meaning to make it official in the Guinness Book of World Records. Two, I've got to look out for my street cred on these mean streets of Brooklyn Heights. Three, no empanadas?!! Tangerine was offering discounts to residents, and I decided to take a shot. After my first session, I was officially yuppified and overjoyed. The place is very clean and inviting. The staff from the person who checks you in to the instructor are incredibly nice and helpful. The yoga room itself is just the right temperature. Grab a block and find your seated position. Take some time to honor your time in reading this review. Like most yuppy, gorgeous new businesses in Brooklyn, Tangerine is located on a somewhat seedy looking street, but it is located near several train lines so you're not going out of your way to do some hot sweaty yoga. The space is clean and very serene but also quite cramped, especially the changing area. The staff is as pleasant as can be and the clientele are all in fairly good shape. I was patting myself on the back for getting to a 9:15am class one weekend, but when I arrived I already saw that the 8am class was packed with even more ambitious morning people. Something tells me that Tangerine is usually a 4 or even 5 star kind of place, and that the beginning of the year usually saturates most studios with a huge influx of new students, thus downgrading the experience to a 3. The tiny hot and humid space somehow managed to stuff 35 people inside, all sweating and bending and mouth breathing..during COLD SEASON. This just brought out my claustro- and germo-phobic side so if I return, I will choose a less popular day and time. read more

I've been frequenting the yoga studio on and off for about a year. I really love the ambience they've created. You get a calm stress free environment from the moment you enter the place. The noise and smell of the city is left behind for the soothing scents and sounds of Tangerine. The classes are almost every hour and they have a bunch of different instructors, each with their unique styles. I've had classes with a bunch of different instructors and have thoroughly enjoyed every class. They have a few lockers to lock up some your stuff. They also sell some supplies and water. They have a bunch of different events going on all the time. I've never attended one of them, but they sure seem interesting. The only tip I'd have for anyone joining new is to get there on time to get a good spot for your class. read more

I have been to this yoga studio twice and I already know I definitely won't be coming back. I understand the whole idea of a dynamic yoga (power yoga) in the heat but the last thing I want is to come to a class where a teacher puts the music on so loud that she has to literally scream at the students. I have been practicing yoga for years, also in hot studios with challenging flows and music but what I experienced yesterday was gymnastic in a hot studio with annoyingly loud music and a screaming teacher. The funniest thing was when the teacher shouted that this was a movement meditation! Clearly she has no idea what meditation is... The studio itself is brand new and lovely but the changing room is so tiny that it is nearly impossible to change and there are no showers which is something I cannot comprehend in a hot studio! Clearly, the target audience are people who live literally above the studio or on the same street, otherwise you would have to walk back home completely soaked with sweat (and no, cold towel is not the same as taking a shower!) To summarize, it makes me very sad that there are so many studios that claim to teach yoga, whereas when you actually go there, you feel as if you entered a gym, with music blasting to your ears and very young teachers who don't understand the concept of yoga and meditation. I was trying to get back into yoga and what better way to do it than going to a new studio! This place just opened up this past week and was very nice and clean.  Staff is friendly and helpful. They really try to help you get the most out of your yoga practice. Right now, it's not too crowded. And no mirrors so it's a judgement free zone. Fyi...This is definitely not Bikram. Hot yoga in July? That sh*t cray. Despite how uncomfortable that seems, I'm very impressed with Tangerine! I had a day off and took an 8 a.m., hour-long class off with Jessica. I got there early so had some time to explore the studio, but it was actually much smaller than I expected. Everything felt extremely clean and minimalistic, which I liked. If you've ever been to Bikram yoga studios (some are even carpeted...cringe), you expect it to be sweaty, sticky, and smelly. Tangerine, on the other hand, was sparkling clean and soothing. The room is set to 95 degrees with 40% humidity - hot but not unbearably so. The yoga itself is pretty hard, even for a "seasoned yogi." It reminds me of Lyons Power Yoga in Manhattan in many ways. It's power yoga, so expect to flow through poses quickly, take a lot of chatturangas, and get your heart rate up. The heat made it challenging but didn't get in the way much, aside from requiring me to stop and wipe off sweat every now and then. There were a lot of twists and playing with blocks. In fact, we used blocks in almost every pose, which I also liked! Our teacher, Jessica, was energetic and very hands-on. She gave me a great adjustment during a twist. Her music was DOPE. It is a bit strange they don't offer showers, so it really only works if you live in the area or have access to a shower nearby. Fortunately, I do, and can't wait to come back! read more

And I've been practicing for a while. She offered a lot of instruction, variations, and she adjusted me often despite being very sweaty. Which never really happens. One of my favorite yoga studios in the city. Each practice is not only physically challenging but emotional as well. Never have I felt more connected with the entire class as I sit through a particularly grueling and long chair pose or go through a vinyasa sequence. Amanda as a teacher is attentive and encouraging. Oftentimes an additional teacher will assist students in poses. Although this studio is open to all levels, I recommend having a basic understanding of yoga and good endurance before you try a class here. You'll sweat, you'll probably laugh and you'll definitely challenge yourself. I always leave feeling refreshed and exhausted. The studio atmosphere is friendly and calming. The amenities are top-notch (locker room is a little small so watch out!). After a long, sweaty practice you'll be treated to cold, scented towels. read more

Having just moved to Brooklyn I was delighted to discover Tangerine Hot Power Yoga on FitReserve. The studio which opened in May includes many yogis who taught at Prana Power Yoga previously and therefore aspects of the practice remind me of the yoga I experienced and enjoyed there during visits to Brooklyn. The studio itself reminds me of a minimal Restoration Hardware with beautiful wood and steel furnishings as well as relaxing candles. The studio offers many things that others don't including mats, towels, lavender cold towels and ADJUSTMENTS in the price of your class. Why do I stress the adjustment part? Well after practicing at multiple different studios in Manhattan I've rarely found a studio that supports adjustments and a hands on approach as much as Tangerine. I loved that when reading the reviews almost every person mentioned adjustments AND I was able to experience a similar experience during Gretchen's class yesterday. The only thing I can think that would make the experience better would be to bring the scented candles into the classroom area, even if just for shavasana, as well as having showers. But, as they point out, they have icy cold lavender towels which when paired with dry shampoo, could be a close substitute. The studio is also conveniently located to NUMEROUS subways so I would urge people to venture out from Manhattan as well. You'll be glad you came! Honestly didn't know what to expect from this. I am historically only a running, lifting, and basketball type of guy. These classes have converted me. They are challenging and afterwards I sleep like a baby (although not in happy baby pose). My favorite instructor thus far (6 classes in) is Kate - holy cow she put us through the ringer, it was a heck of a workout, but honestly they are all awesome! Get out of your comfort zone and into the hot yoga room - I'll be the guy sweating his face off in the back, when you want to come thank me for convincing you to try this. read more

I was so excited to discover Tangerine as I was looking for a local yoga spot when I moved into the area. The studio is great! The teachers are all amazing (I haven't taken a class I didn't like). While it's "hot" yoga It's not too hot. I've done bikram many times and it's so hot, smelly, and it's so hard to get through a class. Tangerine is the exact opposite. Highly recommend! read more

I really enjoyed this Yelp event. The studio was very clean and smelled nice (important when considering hot yoga studios). I appreciated the cool towel towards the end of the session and after. Since there are no showers, the towel is refreshing and helps (along with a change of clothes) one transition from sweaty mess to presentable at least for a little while. The actual class was steady. I liked the music choices. I felt challenged at times, but not as much as I have been in other hot yoga/hot Pilates classes. The lockers with locks were confusing at first, but a great idea nonetheless. I would definitely take another class at Tangerine! read more

I was in their 10/29 Thu 12:15pm class, instructor is Emily First, I was inspired by the sign outside, "the highest wisdom is kindness" Love it! Went with hubby for a try out. It was a very nice experience; the receptionist lady was warm, the studio is very organic and neat feeling, it's a Boutique yoga studio, no shower!!! fee included mat and towel, walk in, check in, 123. I love prodigy but it was a little too loud for me, I also hope the instructor can knowledge the newbie in the room and give them a little more hands up, I practice yoga here and there so know some of the "terms" but for husband, he has no clue and it's a little discourage for him, but after all, he agree he will try again, and that's all that matter. read more

This is an exceptional studio. The design is beautifully done from logo to studio details to the delightful "gifts"at the desk. I love the energy that fills the room. The classes are often full and that adds even more to the energy. Dots on the floor are genius. Every instructor has been incredible (I love Josie Schweitzer) but it is also welcomed, awesome and refreshing that the owner Tamara also teaches. Too often small business people "manage" their locations but do not engage further. I always feel that the elongated hallway fills with interesting people with whom you may engage or observe. That feeling always makes me feel like a community member. This addition to Boerum Hill has really improved my quality of life. One last note, I frequently find that their class schedule is VERY adaptable to a busy lifestyle. I always find a times that works well for me, particularly love the Sunday evening schedule.
