As you'll see from the other 1 star reviews on Google this place is NOT IT. I've been a member of this studio since 2021. Today they decided to cancel my membership and kick me out of the studio (I see I'm not the only one they've done this to) for asking to be refunded $10 for cancelling a class less than 8 hours in advance because something with my sick dad came up. This studio is built on greed and the only thing that made me stay so long was the convenience and the few good teachers. I wish I had never given them my business. I have nothing good to say about the management staff who are rude, insensitive and incompassionate, all they care about is making money. I recommend finding a studio that isn't built on taking advantage of students, and built on the actual principles of practicing yoga. I'm sure the owner will respond by making something up about how I've been "disrespectful" which is just a blatant lie since all I do is come in, take the class and leave. Do yourself a favor and DON'T GO HERE. Like others have said, I'll be finding where else the teachers instruct and take my money there. read more

This yoga place rocks! I've done bikram 90 and bikram 60 with music. Both times the teacher was very knowledgeable, fit, and had a calming voice. They also both remembered my name which is better than average. The music was not distracting either. The studio itself is alright. The room is sufficiently hot, there is only one bathroom and shower combo. But they have a coed changing room in the back down some steep stairs. Also there's a shoe rack and cubbies in the lobby, so two places for storing your stuff. They offer some good deals through Groupon and such so keep Those eyes peeled for that. Wonderful hot yoga and pilates studio! May seem daunting at first due to the location and amount of seemingly fit yogis seen filtering in at all hours of the day! But fret not- everyone teacher at yo bk is welcoming, friendly and ready to push you to your personal best! The first class is the hardest and it gets easier after that. They ask that you do not leave the heated room once inside until the class is over. Yoga might better to try at first, pilates is more strenuous and now they have other options like super power which really takes it there. One new thing they rolled out is the express classes, which may seem cool if your in a rush but when working out the last thing you want to do it rush! I prefer the full 60 minute classes (also not like the shorter classes are cheaper) read more

I've only done hot yoga once before and it was intense so I was hesitant about trying it again. I've been doing yoga now for about 3 months regularly once a week. I decided to give this a try on ClassPass and I was not disappointed. The class was definitely as I remembered, intense. You aren't just sweating, you are sweat at the end of it. All of you. I feel like I enjoyed this class so much better because I've been practicing regularly. If I was a beginner I wouldn't have enjoyed it because it is super fast paced and if you don't know what the poses mean it becomes a little confusing. The instructor was great and the overall atmosphere was welcoming. I wouldn't say this was the most beautiful studio but it was nice. On classpass it says this class is open to all but I honestly think you should have some yoga experience to appreciate the class. read more

And I'm a new one to yoga, hot yoga, hot pilate... after finish my month trial ( very cheap for unlimited!!), I've tried another few studio in the neighborhood and it was a BIG mistake ! YO BK has the best instructors, variety of classes, and community. I've been a member at this studio for about a year and a half and I can honestly say it's one of the best decisions I've made for my overall well being. I used to live in Greenpoint and sadly almost immediately after I moved down near Prospect Park, YO BK opened their amazing Greenpoint studio. I was heart broken. I tried classes at a few other studios near me but quickly realized that no other classes made me feel as empowered and energized as the ones at YO BK. So I decided to stay a member and make the commute to both the Williamsburg location and Greenpoint because it's well worth it. I recently finished a 60 day challenge and feel so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community. Everyone is supportive and the instructors are extremely knowledgeable. I have been to other studios where the instructor styles feel very cookie-cutter and are all the same, at YO, each instructor is genuine and has their own style that they bring to the mat. I've never had any other workout that I crave and am excited for each day. I love the mix of fun inferno Hot Pilates with weights and also have come to love the classes that really ground me, and challenge me mentally, such as Bikram (which I never thought I'd say). The emphasis that is put on connecting the mind and body is refreshing and makes me appreciate that this studio really cares about their practitioners. read more

I signed up for the $49 intro package and enjoyed the variety of classes they offer. They have a full, daily schedule with classes ranging from traditional yoga to hot full body pilates. I tried just about all of their classes, each was unique and challenging. The teachers are great, I especially liked Kate and Natalie. read more

I really like the studio and the variety of classes they offer. I have been practicing various forms of hot yoga/Pilates (Bikram, Vinyasa, Pyro-pilates) for 10 years and I would say the quality is excellent. The only reason I am docking two stars is for two reasons: 1. They require you to put $10 on your card if you choose to use a card for a mat. What is this the 90s? Even the tiny bodega in my office buildings let's me use my card for small purchases - just charge me a little more if its that big of a deal! 2. One of the instructors - Riji - is absurdly controlling about where in the room people are placed. I've taken Bikram and Vinyasa with her now and every time she has made me or other people move to the back of the room at the start of class, even if we have been practicing for a long time and even if we have taken that specific class before WITH HER. I know she has her reasons but for me it ruins the vibe of the class to be ordered to the back of the room. Also, I am a small person and typically can't see myself if I am in the second or third row. read more

Best bikram class in NYC. I came here via classpass and not gonna lie was apprehensive towards YO BK. They have the traditional 90 min class and a 60 min class. I've taken bikram classes before and dreaded them because I've had instructors who yell and treat the practice like a boot camp. That type of instruction in yoga is so hurtful towards the practice. Kate is the owner and teacher of the 60 min class that I took on a sunny Sunday. She is amazing!! She made me LOVE bikram. Of course halfway through the sitting portion of the practice you feel like crying from sweating so damn much but you feel like a million bucks at the end of class. There's only one shower and it's attached to the only bathroom so plan accordingly. read more

Ohhhhhhhh my goodness. When I first arrived, I was thrown off by someone who left in the middle of class because "the instructor isn't teaching yoga." However, once I walked in, I was warmly greeted. My first class here was Hot Pilates with Sarah Ghilardi, and it was intense! I was expecting way less cardio, but this was a full-blown HIIT-based class in a HOT room. This studio whipped me into shape in only one week. I also really enjoyed Camille, Lillith, and Sarah O'Donnell's classes. Kate was a great instructor, as well, but I found it weird that she cut a whole line of people who were waiting to use the restroom. There is only one, and it's in the studio, so it is inaccessible if you are not already in class. Plan ahead! read more

Very experienced instructors, all the instructors I've had at this studio are very encouraging without being pushy. This is the first studio that made me feel comfortable enough to continuously challenge myself to take the intermediate class. I love the challenge, I love how the instructors of this class (most of the time lead by Alex and sometimes Kate) spend time on each student to really help us to improve our yoga practice. I am so humbled to get to practice with them. Also, I am obsessed with inferno pilate and Yo-Bk is one of the very few places in NYC that offers this pilate class in addition to bikram style yoga classes. The two really compliment each other. Do yourself a favor, try to take a pilate class with a yoga class back to back, and you will be able to feel the difference they do to your body. Came here for a hot Pilates class -- this is not Pilates AT ALL. The room feels lukewarm -- not hot or cool -- so you don't really get the benefits of a hot studio and just sit in mild discomfort. The teacher was this really weird Russian lady that was difficult to understand with her accent. She also didn't seem to know what she was doing because she was integrating part yoga, part interval training and maybe a little Pilates? She was also very bad at explaining things, so the entire class was looking around bewildered through half of the exercises. She also seemed to just follow a list of rep exercises that you can find online -- nothing to do with Pilates. She did try to push you and make you work harder though, and her personality was quirky and funny at times. THE MUSIC WAS SO SO BAD!!!! I felt like I was sucked into an 80s aerobics class with blaring loud terrible music. (Reading back, this almost sounds like a version of hell for some people...) The studio is pretty standard but nicer for Brooklyn yoga studios. Kept clean and doesn't feel warehouse basement-y like a lot of Brooklyn studios too. read more

Love to drop in at this badass studio when I'm in town. I've taken regular Bikram classes with Sarah and Kate who are both the type of instructors that veer more towards real, practical knowledge than some of the malarkey that a lot of Bikram instructors love to preach (sorry but I will never buy into the health claims of the Bikram practice until there are medical studies to support them). Instead, the instructors relay things they've learned in their own practices or from master instructors, and will even get down into the poses or briefly pause the class to demonstrate a general correction. A favorite moment: Kate talking about the three things Emmy Cleaves says you need to have to be a great yogi - precision, consistency, intensity. I can get behind that a lot more easily than the idea that "choking" my throat while I'm upside down will improve my thyroid. In a moment of ambition, I took Alex's intermediate class on Saturday afternoon. I've been doing Bikram for about six months which does not make me anywhere near advanced, so I spent a lot of the class watching and learning and trying the poses to varying degrees of success, but I also got some solid tips on how to take the regular Bikram poses deeper which I'm already applying with great results. Alex was really patient and kept an eye on me during class, which I sincerely appreciated. Also, it's pretty awesome that they offer an intermediate class - I've never seen that before. Couple things to know if you are dropping in: Towel and mat rentals are bare bones (really thin mat and some of the towels are rough and small). The changing area is co-ed so don't rip off your clothes in the open. There are changing stalls for privacy, though. There's only one shower, and it's in the only bathroom. People are really efficient but there is sometimes a line. read more

YO BK is the single best yoga studio I've found in my near-decade of steady practice. It balances rigorous instruction and radical welcome like no other studio I've ever visited. All of the teachers are excellent: kind, friendly, and demanding, but never in a way that's a turn-off. Particularly rare in NYC, the classes are all about the work, itself, and not about the ego. It's so good that I'm a member here even though it's nowhere near my work or my home, and kind of a pain for me to get to. If you're even remotely interested in hot yoga or pilates, you need to practice here. read more

Very disappointing. A few weeks ago I sent an email asking for additional info, and received a response from Kate who was the owner. We spoke about me joining and offered a discount off the introductory rate of $59 to $39. That was very helpful as I was going through a rough time, so I intended to join. A few days ago, I made the trip there and brought my mother along so we could both sign up. Kate was at the front desk. She was a bit standoffish and made me feel uncomfortable but I proceeded, introducing myself and letting her know we had previously spoken via email and I was ready to sign up with the discounted rate. She looked at me like I was crazy and I showed her the email she wrote and she barely looked at it. She brushed it off and said that class was full, there's no discounted rate I can join if I pay the $59 and just returned to her computer screen. Aside from embarrassed at the way she spoke and treated me I felt like she just didn't want us in her studio. I hate to say it was a racist thing but that is exactly how it felt. A class was just dismissed when I left and from what I saw it was predominantly caucasian, my mother and I are Puerto Rican even though I grew up in Williamsburg. I was really disappointed bc my mother was so excited to try hot yoga but honestly the vibe in this place is not welcoming at all. There is no good energy or good vibes. It's very small and tight inside and if that is the attitude of the owner do you even want to spend what should be your peaceful time, uncomfortable? Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. It wasn't the fact she went back on her own offer, which definitely was wrong, but it was how dismissive she was since we walked in. We would NOT recommend this place. Yoga is a practice for healing & positivity not selective acceptance. read more

Ending my first month here I'm Happy to say I'm hooked. Intense effective workouts by knowledgeable, friendly teachers in a judgement free zone. Would have given this place 5 stars however, someone stole my wallet from the cubbies they have during my session! They have absolutely no cameras in the studio so there was no way of identifying who took it. I was traveling and all my money and ID was inside and it was an extremely special wallet. Class was great just wish whoever stole my wallet was more zen like yoga teaches and didn't steal !! My tip: keep your purse next to your yoga mat or don't bring a purse and bring a little wallet and keep it next to you during the practice. read more

I have been practicing Bikram yoga for 15 years now. I live in Queens and decided it would be fun to visit this studio this Saturday. I do not live nor work in Brooklyn. I forgot my mat and I did not have any cash on me. The women instead of lending me their cheap and stinky mats said I had to spend 10 minimum.... this was after I told her I did not live in the area. I understand there is a credit card minimum but she should have said its ok just borrow a mat for today. After class I emailed the studio reporting this poor customer service . The studio replied without any apologies. In fact most studios even give first time visitors a complimentary mat and towel rental. read more

I went there because I wasn't motivated to work out after vacations and pregnancy. Overall I felt yes it was a good workout. However, this is not the comprehensive yoga place where you can have a sip of water if you feel so, it was more like a high school attitude of discipline and not going with your own pace and needs. I know this because I'm a certified yoga instructor myself. I can tolerate this try to be a "disciplined instructor". The downside was the hygiene, the packed a small room with at least 20 people, literally I had someone else's feet on my head at all times and my feet were on someone's head too. My neighbor's sweat was invading my mat! And I think I saw mildew under the mirror on the right side. I know they try to make money but they could have more classes and a limit of people in each class so everyone is comfortable. I honestly won't go back because I don't want to catch a fungus. I took a Saturday class with Kate and she's an AMAZING teacher. This was my first time back at Bikram after about a year so I was a bit nauseous & rusty during certain postures, but she encouraged me to take a break when needed and to keep going. I signed up for the Intro Week special they have going on so as hard as it is to show up to class I WILL be back at it tomorrow and the days that follow. Love this place!! This is a great hot yoga studio - hot but not too hot (which is the difference between feeling great afterwards, and being wiped out for the next 24 hours). The staff are friendly and helpful and not at all uptight and the schedule is convenient and makes sense. They have lockers, but its really secure anyway, and they have just one shower (which I haven't tried - I just cycled home sweaty and showered there!). Highly recommended. read more

Love this studio! It's hard to motivate myself to get up early and go sometimes, but I always feel better after I go! Every teacher I've had I love! They have a great variety of classes as well, so you're not just doing 90 minutes of the same posture every time. I started practicing Bikram around the city less than a year ago - trying different studios, all of which were either too hot, too unfriendly, too crowded, or not challenging enough! I didn't feel part of any studio. I didn't even know if I was improving or how my body was changing. Finally a few months ago, I found YO BK. This spot has been nothing but a positive influence in my life - and has made me fall in love with this practice. (never thought I'd say that...) ALL of these teachers are so caring, will familiarize themselves with you, and will offer you guidance, class after class after class. Yes, there's only 1 bathroom, but who needs a shower when you got that post-bikram glow?!? This studio is cozy, clean and welcoming. I love just walking in and taking a quick class. Because it's small, the studio feels local, not corporate. The instructors are great - very knowledgeable and friendly. Right away they knew my name. My favorite is the 60 minute classes. I have been coming to YO BK for a few months now from classpass and it's truly a great facility. I have done bikram 90, inferno hot pilates and recently tried bikram 60. I have taken most of my classes with Kate and Sarah (there are a few Sarah's, but this is about blonde Sarah). They are both incredible instructors. Kate gives really specific and helpful corrections and I feel like my practice has improved a ton since going there. I've done hot pilates with sarah and she will kick your ass, one of the hardest workouts in the city including all the classpass usuals (fhitting room, Barry's boot camp) etc. Bikram 60 is a great option if you can't fit in the 90 minute class and it's cool they have shorter options. They also always play good music. I think it's great they leave the studio open before and after class for stretching and they have very reasonably priced mat rentals if you forget one. Im back to Bikram after many years away. It feels great, and Kate is a wonderful teacher. My body if feeling like my own again! There is nothing like hot yoga, and this studio is really close to my bike shop and its easy to drop in and get some serious stretching. I have found my new yoga home. YO BK is a warm (no pun intended), calm, welcoming place to be. The teachers seem highly skilled. The owner is like a ray of sunshine. And the studio itself is bright and gleaming. I'm not an expert at Bikram, but the instructor was very encouraging and provided plenty of guidance. Last but not least, the entire studio was spic and span. I didnt even hesitate to walk in bare feet in the shower area. This place is a true find. read more

This morning I woke up to try yoga the first time since my baby was born. I travel via uber trying my best to get to this class that everyone tells me is at a NICE studio. East Williamsburg to this Broadway location, of course first time taking longer than expected, and I get here 8:32 to watching them just start class. The teacher sees me. Every Bikram class I've been too they take a break and let you in. There are 3 people in the class. After waiting 5 mins I knock on the door. The instructor comes and opens the door tells me I can't come in and takes about a full minute explaining that it's a 60 min class and she doesn't let people in, that she locks the door and is the only one here so people can't be let in. Snobby Williamsburg strikes once again with Natalie a yoga teacher who shows little signs of a YOGI!!!! So rude!!! I'm left out in the cold not allowed in. AWFUL VIBE left a bad taste in my mouth. Will not be coming again!!!! People don't know what others have going on or the struggles they have to try to actually get to make it to a class to work out. Being a working mom I was so proud of myself for making it here and now I'm left with his time to do nothing but share my awful experience here.
