So I can't speak to the yoga classes here, but the cafe has an excellent, diverse selection of healthy smoothie offerings, along with a couple of larger meal options such as salads. I feel like I'm not always picky, but can be with smoothies. I hate springing for a "healthy" option and winding up getting a sugary sweet beverage. This place is legit--whether you try an obviously healthy sounding option like the Vegan Healthy Smoothie (Apple, celery, kale, almond butter) or more adventurous titles like the Eye of the Tiger (strawberry, raw cacao, almond or peanut butter) or my personal favorite The Amazon (blueberry, baby spinach, peanut butter), you're getting something healthy, delicious and incredibly satisfying for a liquid meal. In short, product is excellent. Really just a takeaway stand but a couple of outside tables if you want to sit and linger. Only occasionally frustrating thing is access--it seems like a 2-3 person team, they are only open 12-6 Wednesday-Sunday, but I have even dropped by on those hours a day it has seemed closed. Guess it's the price you pay for a small and friendly and authentic experience--I'll enjoy their smoothies whenever I can get them! read more

I went here once and really liked the staff and classes, but there's some folks who basically hang out at the studio, I guess so they can suck up or be 'regulars' or whatever you want to call it, and they made me feel really uncomfortable. I mentioned being new to the area and one of them immediately went off on this loud awkward tangent about how NYC is like being in an abusive relationship, which involved several jokes about domestic violence and how stupid women are who return to a partner who abuses them. And, well, I'm a domestic abuse survivor and didn't exactly find it funny. Now, I'm not one of those 'the whole world should be my safe space' people, but I felt that was an incredibly inappropriate conversation to be starting. I go to a yoga studio to feel happy and at peace, not so that some wannabe-special-snowflake can make people uncomfortable. It was incredibly off-putting, and it pretty much guaranteed I wouldn't be back because I don't want to run the risk of encountering those studio groupies again. I feel terrible saying this, but while Grace is amazing and I was really happy with the classes I took, the thought of navigating those people means I will not be back here. read more

I am not new to yoga, but am relatively new to the neighborhood. I started going to Move with Grace because they offered at $40 unlimited package for a month, and enjoyed my classes so much that I signed up for an ongoing monthly subscription. They also have Zumba, Pilates, and dance classes. I have been attending the Sunday ballet classes, which is a wonderful, fun way to exercise. I mainly go to yoga because I like the way it makes me feel, both physically (stronger) and mentally (clearer). The classes are not too challenging or weirdly competitive like in some yoga studios, but they are also not too easy or predictable that you feel restless. The students in general seem friendly and cool, and the teachers are helpful, warm, and easy-going. No matter who is teaching the class, there is always something new and worthwhile. Grace, the owner, has a great presence and calm that resonates through the environment that she has created. I always walk out of a session with a sense of peace and happiness. I think it's so great that this place exists. read more

I am shocked this place has gotten good reviews. My first experience was pretty good with an instructor named Ahmed, he is knowledgable of the practise of yoga. I went today and had a woman named Duygu and I can honestly say that I can teach a more professional class than her. She demonstrated the asnas incorrectly, she had the names wrong, her breathing method was atrocious and the manner in which she told people to do many if not most of the asnas will only lead to neck injury. I also don't need someone to tell me over and over again "don't worry everything will be alright". This is not how gratitude is practised and taught, in fact it comes across as condescending. The studio is also dirty, it has a rotting smell as one walks in - this is not ideal for a breathing practise. There also are not any paper towels to clean your mat afterwards. I wish I didn't purchase a 2 week introductory membership after my experience today with Duyga. I left feeling annoyed, frustrated and extremely unhappy. The smell of the studio stayed in my mind for hours. I will finish my introductory membership and go to Ahmed's classes as I enjoyed his class but I will not return not will I recommend anyone to go to this studio. read more

Move With Grace is a good casual, neighborhood studio, perfect for dropping in on the weekends if you have the time. I wouldn't recommend it for people looking for more challenging classes or a regular yoga practice. I did the $40 for 30 days special, and went to class about twice a week. The teachers were good, but they were not up to the level of the teachers I have practiced with at other studios in Brooklyn (And I don't consider myself a yogi expert. You could just tell the difference). The studio and classes are small, which is nice, but it's small enough that when class is canceled, you still bike all the way there because they didn't put the cancellation on their website. The people who work there are great, but the studio itself leaves a lot to be desired--the black ceiling really doesn't do much for creating a calm and relaxing environment. read more

Move with Grace is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. I just started taking private Pilates classes with Grace and love it! She is very patient and encouraging as well as sensitive of my particular physical issues. She adapts some movements as necessary. She also shows me how to do new exercises herself rather than only giving oral instructions. She sees how I learn and I feel like she is catering to my learning style (which as a teacher myself I really appreciate). My past Pilates teachers were very eclectic and Grace works in a more traditional way, which I find challenging and enjoyable. I'm happy I found the studio and happy to support a local business rather than one of the ubiquitous and impersonal or pretentious gym chains. read more

Why did I walk by this studio for 5 months without going in? Each class I've taken has provided substantial challenge (former ballerina of 14 years here) and I leave feeling calm and centered. I have felt pretty out of shape lately and in only two weeks of participating I am already stronger and more flexible. I look forward to the different teaching styles, candlelit setting, and friendly environment. On top of that, I realized today their juice and smoothies are the freshest and best in the neighborhood. Update: This has been my go-to studio for 7 months. A totally unique experience you won't find elsewhere. I like the different teaching styles available and I am now able to do all sorts of asanas I never thought I would be able to do (i.e. headstand, balancing etc.) It's a genuine community with a peaceful environment. read more

It has been some work searching for the right pilates studio/class in Brooklyn. I purchased a special on the Move with Grace website which offered a month of unlimited classes for $40. I went to a Saturday morning class with Dina (I think that was her name, but don't hold me to it). The workout was solid. The class had approximately five attendees, so we were each able to get a fair amount of one-on-one attention. The instructor was very knowledgeable and great at describing the various articulations and subtly correcting movements. It was perhaps a 4 on the intensity scale -- some work was involved, but it was fairly moderate and accessible for a beginner. The studio, I didn't love. But that's sort of consistent across all my pilates reviews -- I love sleek and modern. The ceiling wasn't the best thing to look at, but overall the studio was a clean and relaxing space. There will always be differences in the facilities and equipment at a yoga/dance studio that offers pilates classes and an actual pilates studio. Move With Grace is the former and that has an impact on my review, so take it as you may. Overall, Move With Grace had a solid pilates offering. I cannot say that it would be my first choice, but to the extent I've missed an early morning class elsewhere on the weekend, it would be a convenient second choice. read more

It pains me to write this review, but for the love of god, PLEASE stop cancelling classes! Every week I struggle to get here by 8:45 for class and probably 65% of the time it winds up being cancelled. This is a problem for me because I don't enjoy wasting, like, my ONLY sliver of free time riding the bus down myrtle ave only to get there and find that the lights are off. Then I check the website as I'm riding the bus back down myrtle AGAIN and it says "cancelled today". Seriously? Try "cancelled yet again"! With only 2 late classes per week, you've got to do better than this. Hire some people, figure something out. I don't understand how you can run a business like this. I recommended 2 friends and both had the same thing happen on different occasions. To be fair, the website always says when it's cancelled, but I (and probably any of us that have a job or a life) need to plan ahead. I don't always think to check the website as I'm pulling on my leggings, grabbing my mat and running out the door. Usually I get on the bus and have a sudden pang of anxiety as I pray class is actually happening because I didn't have time to pull up the website. I absolutely adore this place, and I hate to say it, but I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. This is such a shame because Grace and Namie are 2 of theeee best teachers I have ever had, hands down. I so look forward to my classes here and always feel fantastic when I leave... I just need consistency, and I need my back to not be killing me because I can never make it to a class. I don't know where I'll go because I can't find anywhere that compares, but I'll just have to figure something out. the thought of going to Yoga to the People makes me want to hurl, but at least I know there will always be class. If you've got any other leads, fill me in please. I hate when people make punctuation faces, but this deserves it, bigtime... What a bummer :( read more

And then there's the juice bar...love the fresh ingredients and the creative recipes. I've even stopped in when I wasn't feeling well and Grace put together an immune boosting shot for me. I've only taken yoga classes here, and they have been great. My experience so far is that they are best for beginner-intermediate level. The classes are small and intimate, which I love. Grace is fantastic, patient and warm, always checks in to see if you have any injuries she should be aware of, etc. I also liked the one other teacher I've had. The classes are pretty reasonably priced, with select classes $10. They have a great deal when you're new to the studio too- $40 for unlimited classes for a month. In the decade that I have been practicing yoga (on and off, and not very consistently), this is hands down my favorite studio that I have found anywhere! Grace is incredibly sweet and helpful and really does work with you to work out corrections on posture--but not to the detriment of the entire class like some teachers I have had in the past. And, her classes totally kick my ass! (other than the community donation based classes, which are much lighter). I think what I love most about this studio is the small-town feeling it has. The yoga instructors here are fast to learn your name and remember you when you return. It's like yoga with friends! And I return as often as I possibly can. read more

I come here for Zumba on Thursdays and Saturdays. The new Thursday evening instructor, Carmen, is GREAT and does a good, traditional, all-levels Zumba class. The Saturday class with Kat should really be called "cardio-dance" - it's good, but it's not traditional Zumba. Beware - I got there 7 minutes late for a class and they wouldn't let me in or give me a refund, even though I had reserved a spot online. I know being late isn't the best but I always try to be on tkmthis is New York. Wasn't even given the chance to consult with the teacher to see if they minded a late arrival. She has that wonderful ability of giving her students room to make the postures as gentle or rigorous as their bodies need. The space wasn't the cleanest, it was cramped, and a pipe was dripping on me periodically during the class. The yoga instructor was just okay and the person working the front desk was not friendly or helpful. A friend purchased a single class online and asked if she could change it to the introductory special of 2 weeks unlimited classes for $45. The woman rudely explained that while she could issue an exchange, it was too much of a process for her and refused to make the change. All of this happened before the class began so as new potential clients, the vibe was not welcoming. With the lack of customer service, the sad space, and mediocre yoga class, we will not be returning. read more

This is a fabulous space for yoga and dance. I'm a beginner, but feel inspired and encouraged in the open classes. Beginner Basic class is structured so it's easy to follow along. The teachers are consistently great. Classes are just the right size and each student is given the attention they need. I love, love, love this studio. You seriously can't go wrong.... read more

There are some really fantastic instructors at Move with Grace- I particularly enjoy classes taught by Charlotte, Namie, and I love Kaali's new Saturday afternoon class (Kaali's is a fantastic blend of challenging poses but also rigorous attention to breathing/pranayama). The space is quite small, but that means that the class sizes are also relatively small, and teachers are able to provide one-on-one instruction (corrections, modifications, etc). The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, but I find the classes to be challenging and invigorating. read more

I first moved the neighborhood about 10 years when I was still in college and was looking for a good yoga spot. I walked into move with grace because I noticed their special priced classes for college students sign on the window. Being a college student myself I didn't have the means to pay for classes and was used to practicing at donation based studios like "yoga to the people" who's philosophy was everyone who wants to practice is welcome and will not be turned away. The studio survives on its patrons donations and has done so successfully for years. I would always give at least 10 dollars as it was what I could afford as a full time student/ part time worker. When I walked into Move with Grace to inquire, Grace was at the counter and I asked her about their class packages for students. She asked me where I go to school and I told her "City college" she asked me where that was and I told her it's a CUNY school in Manhattan but I live up the block in the neighborhood. With stern uninterested slightly annoyed face she looked at me and said the discount is only for Pratt students. Now... if I could afford to attend classes at Pratt I wouldn't need the measly 10% percent off student discount would I? I was attending school on a partial scholarship and paying for my rent /expenses by waiting tables on the weekends. No support from mommy and daddy here. But obviously I was being judged as something else. Nonetheless I was curious and paid in full for one class to move with Grace. In my opinion I got more exercise walking up the stairs to my apartment and for a vinyasa flow type of class Grace did not move very much nor did she getting me moving in a way that couldn't have done myself at home in the living room. The class was very basic and she talked more than she instructed. I never even broke out a sweat. This experience was so disheartening and I felt like I got ripped off by some selfish entrepreneur who was looking to capitalize on a poor young student by means of eastern philosophy. Shame on you Grace! You should take down your shrines and your roll up your rugs and quit preaching Buddhist philosophy because obviously you don't know what it's about! read more
