I'm obsessed with SLT and this Park Slope location in particular! The reformers are top-notch, the method is very traditional and classic lagree, and the instructors are very well-trained. They have a keen eye on form, cue transitions seamlessly, and sequence moves in a way that causes muscle fatigue while switching it up and not leaving you lingering in one particular move for too long. My favorite coaches are Casey (she used to teach at Studio MDR in Southern California, which is major lagree street cred), Elissa and Chase. I signed up for a class through the Gympass app 4 days ago and arrived early to complete any waivers as it was my first time attending. Upon my arrival, the receptionist informed me that my reservation was not showing up in the system, despite having email and app confirmation directly from the studio. Despite presenting evidence, I was told there was nothing she could do. I suggested manually signing me up due to what appeared to be a system error, but she claimed she lacked the authority to do so. When I requested to speak to the manager for authorization, I was informed that the manager was off that day. Given the half-empty class and my effort in traveling 40 minutes to attend, I expected some level of leniency or understanding. Unfortunately, I was not permitted to take the class. I understand that technical glitches can occur, but the lack of a backup plan or any effort to accommodate the situation was disheartening. I believe in fair treatment and flexibility, especially in situations where the fault lies with the studio's reservation system. Edited to say: the instructor also walked up to say "luckily there's an extra space in the class! This is not a review on the instructor but of the reception's handling of the situation. read more

This is more a message to the good people of SLT, but I wanted others to see it. I walk by this place nearly every day, and so do many women and girls of all sizes, orientations, and beliefs. So it's disappointing to see a sign like this, one that promotes body shaming, heteronormative stereotypes, and materialism. Women are beautiful in whatever shape they are in, and the wedding industry (and apparently you) thrive off of encouraging women to feel they aren't good enough for their "special day." Don't feed into a heinous industry by promoting its darker side for your benefit. It's 2019, you can do better. read more

Definitely don't go to any Brooklyn SLT studios, and take your business to Manhattan instead. After more than four years of me being a loyal client in Manhattan, I was charged a renewal for a monthly membership. When I alerted the Brooklyn office - the same day - that the charge had been a mistake, they dug their heels in and absolutely refused to refund me the almost $500 charge. In the end, a manager in Manhattan was able to help me after I pointed out that I had been a loyal customer at W14 for years, but I don't recommend spending your money with SLT Brooklyn - apparently once they get your credit card number they think it's a free license to charge you huge sums and then tell you it's "against policy" to give refunds. read more

10/10 Workout Amazing workout. From start to finish you the workout will not disappoint. Highly recommend doing the beginner class for anyone that is new. I've been doing SKT off & one for about a year and I keep coming back for the 2 reasons: instructors & my abs. I'm not one of those hard core work out kinda of people but I do work out ( 1/2 marathons, weekly 5-10 mile runs, yoga, maybe cycle class, boxing occasionally, HIIT class) it say sound but it's not. Of all those workouts listed. I can honestly say SLT & yoga are my favorite. SLT is an intimate workout area & yes there are mirrors all around but so what. The instructor walks around to ensure your doing the moving correct, music is good & you will see the results soon enough. Had a wonderful 'first timer' experience here! Loved both my instructors for my first two classes, Kelly and Elissa. They both took the time to adjust me and assist when I was confused or doing something wrong. I was sore for three days after their classes! I can't wait to go back. I'm so impressed (and in pain) after two classes here so far. The workout space is pretty intimate and I feel like the instructors are really engaged with everyone working out. I've had classes with Kelsey and Fawn so far, and even though I'm SUPER beginner they were both so encouraging. It's going to take some getting used to the machine, but I'm really excited to keep at this challenging workout. For anyone on the fence about giving it a shot, definitely try it and see if it's for you. They are nothing but awesome and supportive here. You'll be super sore afterward, but... As a Lagree devotee, I had checked out Brooklyn Bodyburn before at both the Williamsburg and Cobble Hill locations, so I was curious to try out SLT Brooklyn post-merger with the SLTs. The Bodyburn I knew was one of the most intense, grueling versions of Lagree at 55 mins long and maximum burnout. I found the new 50 min format workout to be true to the Lagree method in sequencing, exercises, and intensity... though it wasn't as push to the max near impossible as the classes I took at Bodyburn before. I mean it was a bit excessive at 3-4 mins per leg exercise with multiple holds before... The instructor quality is very consistent and great! In both the classes I took here, the instructors were clear and precise with cueing and gave personalized attention to every client. This is important to me since even though I know the exercises, I benefit from subtle adjustments to form that I don't usually get at other studios where they assume I know what I'm doing. My first class here was the Intro to SLT with Ruth. She was very warm, energetic, and focused. The routine wasn't overly complex and followed what I thought a fundamentals class should include- stuck to front of the machine exercises and easier variations e.g. Teaser instead of French Twist. However, it was still effective and good for someone who has done the workout for a while. I took another class with Amanda Jenny. She remembered me from when I tried out SLT and I thought her routine was really great this time. In terms of difficulty level, it was definitely more intense than Intro to SLT and harder the average classes I take at my home studio, but still manageable. She incorporated some non-standard Lagree moves but I found them still an effective and creative use of the Megaformer. The sequencing flowed well and Amanda provided lots of great at hands-on adjustments and encouragement for each client. read more

I'm torn between giving SLT a 5-star review or a 1-star, so I settled on 3. I want to love SLT. Over the past seven years, I have gone through three periods of attending SLT classes pretty heavily (2-3 classes/week for a few months at a time). I loved all of my instructors, the facilities were always clean, and I came to crave the challenge of class. I LOVED feeling the changes in my body as exercises slowly became easier. No class or fitness regimen ever made visible changes to my body as quickly as SLT does (like within two weeks). That said, every time I would start to get back into SLT, I would eventually have to stop because of back pain. I'm talking serious, trouble-walking-for-weeks, physical-therapy-for-months back pain. It finally clicked that I never had back pain before taking an SLT class, and I was completely pain-free in the years I took off between SLT classes. Something about these classes just doesn't work with my body. I'm a little crushed, especially since I still have a few unused non-refundable, non-transferable class packages. Everyone's body is different, and you may be able to do SLT without any problem. Just a word of warning to pay attention to your body and STOP if it doesn't feel good. Also, if you're going to give SLT a try, I highly recommend this Brooklyn location as class size tends to be smaller than in the city. You get more individualized attention from your instructor. read more

The most intense, incredible, no-joke, absolute-full-body workout I have ever experienced. Amazing! I finished my first class thirty minutes ago and I'm STILL shaking--in the best way. I wanted to give up and/or die a few times mid-workout, but Amanda is so encouraging and upbeat--she pushes you hard while still making sure everyone understands what to do and what's happening. The classes are a bit pricey--take advantage of the first-time deal!--but well worth it. read more
