I recently took advantage of the $40 Welcome Week special which allows you to take Unlimited classes for an entire week. I took a handful of classes that ranged from the Candlelit evening class from a couple of Sculpt classes. I've taken Hot Yoga courses in the past before therefore the 110 degrees studio did not bother me at all. I thoroughly enjoyed each class that I took, especially the Candlelit class. The staff and instructors are welcoming, friendly, and professional. Both the studio and restroom are spacious and clean. I'm looking forward to taking more classes here in the future. Aside from the Wi-Fi service being pretty bad, everything went well.

Sunday is self-care day for me. It was nice to end the week with a yoga class at Hot 8 yoga. I took sculpt; it was taught by Jane. It was intense. She made us do burpees, jumping jacks and mountain climbers. I was relieved that she opened the door a couple of time. Otherwise, I would have been one of those people who stepped out for a few minutes. There was a small group who left in the middle. I get it; it was really hot in there. Moreover, there was no air circulating. I highly recommend bringing a long towel or rent one. During the plank position, my forearms were sweaty, and I was sliding a couple of times on the yoga mat. Also, a large bottle of water is a must.

Hot 8 has been my go-to hot yoga studio for the last few months. Their sculpt class (the other classes offered didn't get hot enough in my opinion) is my favorite. It's challenging, upbeat and fun. I love how each teacher has their own playlist that syncs perfectly with the class. Most instructors come around and hand you a cold eucalyptus towel at the end of class while you're in savasana, and it's the highlight of the class for me! It's the best reward and transition after you've put in all the hard work. Some of my favorite instructors are Amelia, Jane, Jacob and Jake. The studio is spacious with multiple changing rooms equipped with lockers and showers. I feel stronger and fitter after committing to 3 classes per week for the last few months. I highly recommend the Hot 8 Yoga studio!

The studio is beautiful, super clean, and has two good-sized rooms with nice flooring--kind of a nylon-type covering. It's hot (which I love!), but if you're not into heat, this might not be for you. You'll sign a quick electronic waiver when you arrive. They've got a solid one-week intro deal for $40. Instructors are friendly, the class is well-balanced, and the music + sequence are on point. Men's showers were out, so that was not a plus. I will be going throughout the week. Limited street parking. Close to trains.

Absolutely love this place! I've been attending classes here almost everyday since late August and…read moreit's been such a good experience. Everyone who works here is so kind and welcoming. Working out has always intimidated me and I was really nervous before my first class but every instructor I've interacted with has been incredibly patient and understanding. Every instructor makes an effort to ask the class if anyone has injuries, no one is bullied into doing more than they can handle, and modifications are always welcome! While the instructors are very understanding and don't try to pressure students to go over their limits, they're still extremely encouraging and do want you to try challenge yourself. I will say that Dr. Brown's Align 1:10 is one of Align's most challenging class. It's very fast-paced (the most fast-paced class I've taken at Align) and I think Dr. Brown's class can be intimidating for some who have never taken the class before but the intention is to keep your heart rate elevated so he means well! Since the fast-paced element of this class is very intentional, you'll have to switch through each exercise very quickly, which is challenging at first (I struggled through my first class). But if you keep attending his classes, it'll become second nature. The style of the class is like a bootcamp class so he will definitely push you to give it your all but if you absolutely can't do something, modifications are fine. I always modify at least 1-2 things in his class and it's never an issue, as long as you feel like it's still challenging and that your heart rate stays up. The Align 1:10 Xpress class is shorter and a bit slower, at least I think so. Both classes are great if you're up to it and trust me, you'll feel so accomplished when you get through it but it's definitely not a yoga class! The other thing that Align has really helped with is my flexibility and range of motion. I originally started coming to Align because I wanted to start weightlifting but I'm so inflexible and tight that I couldn't even squat with proper form. All the classes I've taken at Align have really helped with this issue so if you're experiencing something similar, this is the place for you! Honestly, every class I've take at Align has been so great. If you have injuries that limit your physical movement, if you just get intimidated by working out like myself or even if you're an experienced athlete, I would highly recommend coming to Align! They have a student trial period, which is great because you can take as many classes as you want for a week for only $20 I think.

From sweating buckets in vinyasa to revelations in my postures in align ground to chillin' and meditating in restorative (which I fondly refer to as adult nap time), I find myself feeling transformed as I pour a complimentary tea before heading out for the rest of my day. Also, I have to say I really appreciate that many of Align's top instructors are black women. These teachers are some of the best I've encountered in over a decade of practice in NYC and other countries. Bravo to Align for highlighting an underrepresented group's fierce and fantastic ability to teach yoga.

Teacher Trainer Review I completed my teacher training in…read moreMay of 2013 and I am so grateful that I did it with Ellie Herman Studios. Ellie's training standards are so high that I have been offered jobs at 3 different New York Studios. When I told them that I was certified with Ellie they were impressed but when I did my teaching demo/audition they were SUPER impressed with my teaching style as well as the exercise and anatomical knowledge. It's an intense 500 hour course and the hours are broken up into observation, self practice, student teaching and apprentice teaching. However, I ended up doing a whole lot more than that as I didn't come from a dancing or teacher background and found the learning curve pretty steep at the beginning. But what you put into it, you get back ten fold as my body has never been stronger, I have never been fitter or more healthy. I carry Pilates over into all my other daily activities and other pastimes like kayaking and skiing. I am constantly aware of my body. We were encouraged to start teaching classes as soon as the lecture modules were completed and although nerve wrecking, was simply the best thing that I could have done. By the time of the certification written paper and practical test (took me 18 months) I was totally confident in teaching privates and classes. The program covers Ellie's complex repertoire in both mat and equipment for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The anatomy training is extensive with a particular emphasis on postural assessment and working with special populations as when you start to teach, you'll soon see that all clients need individual care and attention (not a one size fits all approach at all) The other teachers at the studio are all lovely - how refreshing to find mentors that are down to earth, approachable and helpful! Throughout the training, Ellie constantly reiterates all the important, invaluable information so that it becomes ingrained in your brain. Ellie's teaching is invigorating, passionate and simply the best out there!

I was looking for something different than my usual yoga class, so keep in mind, her Restorative Stretch class is NOT yoga. Because this isn't yoga, you'll also want basic equipment with you if you have it, such as a stretching strap, bolster, block and tennis ball. Maya said they tend to adjust the props needed for class based on what people have available at home, which is so thoughtful! The class focused on isolated stretches and working different parts of the body in unique ways with the props. I can tell Maya is a passionate, very intelligent instructor - she was excellent about verbally announcing modifications and checking in on the group. Studio Maya offers dance classes and core classes but no yoga. However, if you have physical limitations, you will be able to keep up in the Restorative Stretch class. It is slow-moving and thoughtful. I love Brooklyn, NY, and the next time I find myself there after the pandemic,, I would absolutely stop in for a class with Maya again!

So, it was a unique experience to have a slower pace class. The studio is massive and there's also a cute changing room that's got Moroccan themed lighting and pillows. The studio has water, water bottles, towels, and all the material you'll use in class (Bosu ball, mat, etc). As for the class itself, I took essential core and had absolutely zero idea of what I was doing. There were a lot of micro movements involved to work out your abs, but as a first timer, I felt lost and disoriented. The instructor, Maya, was of great help. She made sure I had proper posture and movement and gave me individual attention. I don't quite feel the core burn I had hoped for, but she explained the more you do it, the more you learn to isolate your muscles. She was a pleasure to meet and be taught by. Although this form of exercise isn't for me, I understand why others do it. I personally feel like you'd have to engage in it for several months to really understand the movements and see results. This studio seems to offer quality classes for those of you who are into Pilates and calisthenics. (:

Seemingly catered to femme-presenting people, yet still offering strength training classes beyond traditional pilates, I thought it would be a good place to add variety to my usual routine. I bought the Newbie and Rookie class packs and had three wonderful classes. That said, I was deeply disappointed with the studio owner's response to an error with their notification system. A text message from their system told me my class was at "The Fit In." However, the class was actually at another location. I received no booking confirmation telling me of any other location and had not checked the website before leaving (like I had done before), since I assumed that the text was correct. Because of this, I arrived at the wrong studio and would be late for my upcoming class. I emailed the studio explaining the circumstances and apologizing for my absence. Because I had gotten comfortable at The Fit In and saw it as my new studio, I requested the missed class be rescheduled and hoped that, by drawing attention to this issue, the studio could prevent future confusions like mine. In response, the studio owner questioned why I couldn't walk to the other studio (after having already walked to the incorrect one) or drive there. I do not have a car. Less than half of NYC has a car. I told them that, while those were certainly options, I couldn't justify buying an Uber for a three-minute car ride and paying MORE to make up for their mistake. I also informed them that, in preparation for a fitness class, I was dressed to work my muscles, not walk against cold winter breezes. Their response? No-shows to classes are non-reschedulable, even if the reason for missing the class was because of their system. They also told me their messaging system does not mention which location class is held at (contrary to my screenshot) and questioned "how I got to my classes before." If you are looking for a community welcoming to newcomers, look elsewhere. They would rather gaslight their new customers than accept they made a mistake. Overall, I guess I didn't have the right Fit for this studio.
