I wait an hour for a tow truck to come out and put the donut on-- "$200, please." That seems excessive but I'm hostage, what can I say. So then I ask Claude/ChatGPT where I should drive to to actually get the tire replaced or repaired. They both recommend this place. (I love when they agree.) I get there maybe around 11am. I'm desperate for quick service because I don't want to lose a day hiking on my vacation. (Had a permit for the Subway.) Long story short, not only do they patch the tire within 30 minutes, but when they call me back up to the counter, they're like, "Oh, yeah, no charge. We do patches as a courtesy." The audible "Whaaaaaaaaaaat?" that escaped me... This is a shop that must deal pretty exclusively with vacationers that they will never see again. That they would treat a one-off customer with such respect-- compare that to the $200 fee that morning for someone simply putting the donut on-- really floored me. When I am back in Zion, if anything happens to my car, these dudes have my undying loyalty.

It happened at a very difficult time and place, about 150 miles east of St. George and in a snow storm. We stopped in Kanab for an engine test and were told that the transmission had developed a problem that would disable the All-Wheel-Drive. We were told that driving to St. George would not cause further damage to the transmission but the snow storm, without all-wheel-drive, resulted in a very cautious drive to St. George. We called ahead to St. George Transmission and they were familiar with that particular Subaru problem and they had the parts in stock. We decided that our other car, a Ford Transit 350 van handled even worse than the Subaru so while St. George Transmission fixed the Subaru, we had Snow tires put on the van. We have fond memories of St. George and, especially of St. George Transmission. They made our Forester safe to drive, even though the snow storm got worse as we drove on to Seattle. Great company and staff is very knowledgeable in Subaru transmission problems.

Grease Monkey opened at 8am and I called right at opening. At arrival all employees were very friendly and very informative. They didn't charge me to diagnose the issue and would only charge me on repairs. Matt was amazing and took the time to point out a few things and asked me to drive the car around for a while and bring it back to make sure everything was good.
