We had an unexpected 5 inch bolt fly into the side wall of my Porsche tire on 1000 East and St George Blvd, piercing the tire. Thankfully it was right down the road from Bracken Auto. Eric McDonald helped us (service manager) order a tire from out of town, and the owner "Super Dale" drove us to our hotel to stay the night. Before 10 am the next morning, they called and had it all ready for us. It was a tender mercy that the car wasn't damaged, no one was hurt, and the folks at Bracken were there to help and go Beyond the Call of Duty to help people unexpectedly stranded. I recently got my tire repaired here after I got a screw in it. It was very affordable(about $27) they were super fast. Every other place in town had a 2 hour minimum wait time and this place had me in and out in 30 minutes. They were polite, great customer service and very friendly. I'll start off with the positives: everyone we spoke to at Bracken's was friendly and the gentleman who towed our vehicle was very helpful. Unfortunately, Bracken's neglected to run a very basic test that we requested multiple times, charged us for a battery we didn't need, and cost us 5 days of our vacation due to their negligence. Full story below along with scans of receipts for verification. On Monday, 8/23 at around 7:30 pm, our car stalled in St. George and wouldn't start again. It was exhibiting all of the signs of a failed alternator. We called AAA and had our car towed to Bracken's based on the great reviews - our car was located right up the street. The guy who towed our car happened to work at Bracken's and agreed that it appeared our alternator went out. The shop was closed for the evening, so we rented a hotel within the walking distance of the shop. On Tuesday, 8/24, we called Bracken's when they opened to give them our information and describe the situation. The gentleman on the phone indicated that they would take a look and get back to us later that day. About 15 minutes later, we get a call from the shop indicating that they had completed their diagnosis and (lucky us!) it's only the battery not the alternator. We were skeptical and asked if they had performed an alternator test. The gentleman indicated that they had and the alternator was just fine. I let him know at that point that we were on a long road trip and we were often in areas 100 of miles from the nearest town and with no cell phone service. Are you sure it's just the battery?? Yes, just the battery. So we walk over to the shop and go through the same set of questions again. Did you run an alternator test? Yes. We also asked for more information on how the battery failed but didn't get a response. We didn't feel good about it, but eventually, we paid for the battery and left the shop. On Wednesday, 8/25, our car stalled again in the exact same way as it did in St. George just 2 days before. Except this time, we were 180 miles from the nearest city and of course no cell phone service. On Thursday, 8/26, we limp the car into Provo (I'll spare you the details on how we did it, but it involved a lot of walking, hitchhiking, swapping/charging batteries, etc.) to a new shop and tell them that we suspect the alternator and that we had just had it in the shop 2 days ago for the same issue. The shop in Provo ran an alternator test and determined that we had a bad alternator. On Friday 8/27, the shop in Provo completed the work on our car and we were finally able to get back to our trip. We lost almost 5 days of our vacation to Bracken's incompetence and negligence to run a basic diagnostic test. These guys are amazing! My son was moving to St. George as a student and of course the 1st day there his car's air conditioner went out! in 110 degrees! They were great, they helped us with what we needed, and gave us great advice on how to register our car when it came time to do so. They were fair, fast and friendly. I can my son their car and told him that if he needs anything done to his car while he's done here at school to only bring it here to Bracken's!! We blew a tire on our travel trailer while driving southbound on Interstate 15 near Cedar Pocket, on a downhill curve in the pitch dark. After we came to a stop on the shoulder, we called 911. An officer arrived, and he recommended that we call a tow truck. He recommended Bracken Towing, and he placed that call for us. Austin Buff soon arrived. He knew exactly what to do, even though there was not much room on the shoulder and the trailer was tilted far to the right. After he changed the tire, he backed up his truck along the shoulder to provide us with a "launch window" for a safe reentry onto the highway. When he flashed his lights, we took off down the road toward home. Mr. Buff's professionalism and his great attitude made a big difference. read more

I wish I lived closer to Bracken's to visit them regularly. All the guys there are very nice and attentive. They didn't bs me even though I am a single woman. I felt like they saw me as a daughter or sister--educating me and helping me make the best choice. They also went above and beyond--taking 6 inch screws out of my wheel wells that were placed by a less reputable place and replacing them with plastic plugs. Thank you, guys! I broke down in Zion and got my car towed to them because they were one of the few mechanics open on a Saturday . They have their own tow truck if needed. They were able to help me on a Saturday so I could get home to LA the same day. They even stayed open late for me . They have an air conditioned lobby to wait in or you can walk to near by restaurants and wait . read more

I was on a road trip through the desert when our air conditioning quit unexpectedly. In a panic, I called Bracken's Auto Tech & Tires after getting a local recommendation. They were absolutely fantastic! Not only did they take our car without an appointment, but after diagnosing the car with a busted compressor, they were able to quickly order the parts and make the repair in half the time we expected so we could quickly get back on the road. We stopped first thing this morning and asked for help with our tow dolly. We are elderly and had fought the straps coming off of the tires from Yuma to Searchlight where we took the car off the dolly and drove it and the vehicle that was doing the towing. We got into St. George late in the evening, very tired and dirty from crawling around in the ground at least 5 times to adjust the straps. Nothing worked so that is why we eventually drove both vehicles. We lucked out when we found Brackens. 2 men immediately took charge and got us fixed up and back in the road. No charge! I tried to jump start my car but it didn't work. Called AAA. Two techs arrived in about 15 minutes. They were competent, super helpful and pleasant. After exhausting all other alternatives, they concluded my battery had to be replaced. Luckily they had an AAA approved battery in their truck. I was back on the road again. Thanks guys. read more

Our Check Engine light came on 30 miles south of St. George and we limped into town after dark. We called Bracken's first thing the next morning and they were able to diagnose and complete the engine repair on our foreign car by 11am. They were courteous and respectful. While searching for a coin store in St. George, I didn't look where I was going, hit a curb and blew a tire. Not to worry, even though it has been 10+ years since I had to change a tire, it's still a piece of cake, although now I'm 88, have a bad back and the temp is 100+. Oh oh, can only find the scissors jack but not the handle. Can you spell S-C-R-E-W-E-D children? I am behind a Del Taco, and using my cell phone, try and locate a roadside service. Sunlight washes out my screen, rending it useless. Make my way to an orthodontist building behind us (leave them a good Yelp as well) where a sweetheart of a receptionist takes time out to look up a roadside service and calls them over. In a half hour a young guy shows up, changes the tire, blows it up to the proper pressure and is done in 15 minutes. Very professional and friendly to boot. Back on the road after one hour delay. My thanks (again) to this young man and the company who apparently has it's act together. read more

I'm going to make this short. The only good thing I can say is that when I called AAA someone from Bracken came and picked up my car in under 30 mins.this was this past Saturday. The car saturday in their shop until Monday which I totally understand. They called me and told me that my car's oil coolant line broke and the cost would be around $380. I was ok with that. But what I wasn't ok with was that whom ever worked on my car must spread grease all over my door handles. Outside and inside. And also he/she must have had grease on their shoes because my carpet was full of black grease. I didn't really notice because I was in a hurry to drive 2 hours back home to Vegas. But the one thing that pissed me off is that my engine light kept coming on. I noticed they barely put any engine oil. The dip stick was barely showing any oil. So the next day I took it to my local Toyota dealership to check on my car because at this point I don't trust or wanted to waste my time with Bracken auto repair. All I can say is I was really disappointed and highly discourage anyone from going there. read more

It was approx. 4pm while I was driving back to California from Utah when my underbody panel was coming off dragging ridiculously. With 350 miles left to go, I was worried it may cause serious damage. I randomly googled an auto store and luckily this place was open on a Saturday (closing at 5pm). I went in and stated my situation, and Bracken's took my car in and fixed it within 20 minutes! After it was complete, I went up to pay and they told me not to worry about it! I was lucky enough to even find a place still open on a weekend, and to top it off they did it as a courtesy! AVOID THIS PLACE! went in with simple hole in tire. Pulled the classic "oh it's on the side wall, we can't fix it" (a complete lie to try to sell me a tire). Ended up fixing it my self very easily with a 5$ kit. Went to air up the tire and it was off the bead and they left my stem core out. So I couldn't even air it up. Absolutely terrible. We were driving from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City when our check engine light suddenly came on. The truck didn't change how it was driving, but to be safe, we drove to the nearest shop to get it checked out. That led us to Bracken's. We figured it was good because it was AAA approved. They scanned the engine and told us we had a bad transmission. They also said the transmission fluid was "blacker than black". They said it needed immediate attention and it was a big risk to continue on the road. The funny thing is, we had first checked the fluids ourselves after the check light came on, and the fluid wasn't black! We also had the experience of driving a bad transmission, so we already knew what it was like when it goes bad. So even though we didn't agree with their assessment, we went ahead and paid a charge for the scanning. They didn't give us a printout of the code nor did they give us a receipt. Long-short of it, we not only made it all the way the Salt Lake City, but we also made the 12 hour drive all the way home to California! All we asked for was honesty from a AAA approved shop. We didn't get it. All we got was a good scare. Luckily, we did get it from an AAMCO shop in Salt Lake City, who confirmed there was an issue, but the truck could make it home before getting repaired. Thanks for nothing Bracken's. Thanks AAA for fooling us into thinking this was a good shop. Stop treating customers like idiots, and try being more honest to those that decide to take their cars to you. We're smarter than you think. read more

Had to buy a alternator from these guys and will never do it again. They talked me into a rebuilt altenator which didn't even last a year and when I went back they tried to sell me another rebuilt altenator. Come to find out the owner owns a shop that rebuilds used altenators. I have never gone back! read more

Only one experience with them so far and granted, it was an easy problem, but we were satisfied. We had a very dead car battery. The tow truck driver was knowledgeable and pleasant (Dave). The shop called us promptly to determine our request. We had it repaired promptly. I was impressed with their office staff also when we went to get the car. They were quite busy, had a computer glitch, a confused person on the phone and a very elderly person they were trying to help. Despite all that, our payment was handled promptly with apologies for the wait. So far so good with Brackens! read more

When we moved here from SLC most people in town recommended them for car repairs. However in my 3 times giving them a chance I was left with extreme disappointment. After being told there was nothing wrong with the car it died on St. George Blvd. we were able to get it back and all of the sudden were looking at a repair costing $1000 and they had it over a week. The car is barely worth the repair. The customer service is horrible. In talking to them I wouldn't guess any of them had any knowledge with repairs. I also used my AAA service calls for a dead battery and they didn't have a battery. Just advise to go someplace else. Very poor experience. read more

I had my truck towed in after I had blown an oil cooler hose. I was extremely happy with the fact they started working on it immediately since I was traveling to Bonneville for Speedweek. However when the technician informed me the hose was repaired, but then informed me it was the wrong type of hose I was less than satisfied. Why on earth would a "qualified" mechanic simply reattach the wrong type of hose when the hose has already failed. I had to have the hose repaired correctly when I arrived in Salt Lake City. Only for the fact the tow was on time, and they started immediately is the reason It is not a one star rating. read more

Bad communication. Had exhaust work done here twice before and was happy with price and results. My last experience was a terrible one. I was overcharged and they did mickey mouse work on my exhaust and never let me know my car was done. They used to be the best shop in town for exhaust work USED TO BE. But not anymore. Arrived there this morning at about 8:25 am with a flatted tire. Several employees were seen as we arrived, eating breakfast and walking back and forth (unsure of his purpose in doing so!), but no cars were being worked on. One of our guys talked to a service person who seemed to be most interested in finishing his breakfast burrito than helping out a customer. Funny, but the digital sign above the business said "lowest prices and best customer service!" Uh, I don't think so, as he told our guy that it would be at least an hour until he could take a look at the tire. Well, I would understand his point if all of their employees were engaged in work related activities. However, as I already alluded, this simply wasn't true. It's comforting to know that they stand behind the products and services on the vehicles they work on. I purchased my tires from them and they have repaired them a number of times at no charge. I woke up today stressed about a slow leak from a nail puncture and they were my first call. I had a tight schedule and they were able to help me immediately and quickly. I appreciate that. More than that, because I purchased my tires from them, they offered a free rotation on top of the free tire repair. All I had to pay for was a reasonably priced oil change. I will be purchasing my next set of tires from them later this summer. I would highly recommend their services. read more

Went in to get a new fuel pump installed in my car a few years ago, and when they were done, the fuel gauge did not work. Just had another fuel pump installed, and I was told that the one that Bracken's installed was missing the entire piece to read how much fuel was in my car. I spent around $800. I had my tires replaced at Bracken's. Slow process because there was a locking lug bolt for which I didn't have the key, but they got the locking nuts off and made the switch. It took a lot longer than swapping the tires usually does but that's because of the locking lug bolts. The minus one star was for the young tech who, instead of going ahead and swapping the tires while we waited on the lug bolts to arrive, did other things, which would have caused a further delay. I said something to the guy at the front desk and he got the tech moving on the project so that the rest would go quickly once the parts came from the dealer. In the meantime, I went for a walk and lunch. The guy at the front desk also answered my questions about some towing-related topics and was very helpful. Also I noticed that everyone who came in was treated in a friendly and courteous manner. Overall, I'm very happy with them and recommend them. read more

On my way fro Chicago to Los Angeles in my Jeep and check engine light came on. Continued, but then had a sudden engine surge. It was Fourth of July, and was surprised to find Brackens open. They ran diagnostics and made the necessary adjustments. In about an hour I was out the door (including an oil change). They didn't charge for the diagnostics (back home some guys charge over $100 up front), and the repairs only cost labor of $42. Wish these guys were in my home town! Good bunch of guys. read more

My daughter who is attending collage was having car problems. We called Brackens, big mistake! They towed her car had it for half a day and said nothing wrong. My daughter picked up the car and it died in the parking lot! Still said nothing wrong, just that she did not know how to drive, it's an automatic! Charged for towing and diagnostic to do nothing car still ran like crap, ended up taking it to another shop to get fixed now I have to pay two bills. Not happy.
