Had a good first experience here at the South Arlington location. I ordered the Sausage & Onion and not sure if I'd return I also ordered the Caivano. Surprisingly both were very good. These are personal pan pizzas which are difficult to compare to standard size pizzas however for this to be a personal pan it definitely passes the filling test and flavor test. They seem to specialize in the crust which was perhaps the highlight of the pie. The center of the pie is very thin which can be deceiving because just when you think you're going to finish the entire pie you realize the crust did it's job filling you up. Definitely a pizza competitor in the DMV. I'll try them again to see if it warrants a 5*. I'll offer a 2nd review later which will get more in detail on ingredients quality and consistency. read more

I have never heard of this place until my cousin suggested it and I am so happy she did! They have many pizza choices that tailor to all, including red and white pizzas. The chorizo pizza was flavorful with just kick of spice and the filetti DOC was simple but packed in so much flavor as well. We also got an order of the Brussels sprouts that were surprisingly tasty and perfectly crisp on the outside but soft all the way through! The size of the pizza is definitely individual sized but also the perfect size! This would have been 5 stars for me had the crust been crispier. The crust was relatively thin, just the way I like it, but if it was crispy that really would have put this pizza over the top. Pizza very underwhelming (got the white pizza with garlic based on recommendation if the man who answered the phone but do not see anything like it on the menu) and two orders of aranici...one with sausage the other eggplant. Finally a good Neapolitan pizza in NOVA. The Verace certification is impressive with very strict criteria and only a handful of pizzerias are certified in the area. I'm not a fan of Pizzeria Orso or Crust Pizzeria Napoletana as their pizzas are too thin and soggy. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside and tucked in a small strip mall, Pupatella is a hidden gem as their pizza is baked just right and as good as the pizza I had in Italy. I love the Margarita DOC pizza with imported buffalo mozzarella and sweet tomato sauce on top of pillowy dough. It's soooo good! One pizza is definitely not enough to share. The eggplant parm panini was tasty with fresh foccacia bread, but I rather save my appetite for the pizza. Be warned of the homemade limoncello, it's potent! The alcohol content is higher than what I had in Almalfi Coast. I wasn't a big fan of the blood orange flavor and prefer the original. The Chianti and House Red were good for $6/glass. After I ordered, I saw a special that you can $10 off a bottle if you get 2 pizzas. Duly noted! The wheel of gelato looked so cool and was tempted to get some. The pepperoni was excellent and you can tell the ingredients are fresh, where I think this place fails is the execution, the dough was super soggy in the middle and all the cheese and pepperoni comes off first bite and about ten minutes after the pizza cools the crust gets tough and chewy read more

There are plenty of Neapolitan style pizzas in the District, but this one out in Virginia has a reputation of its own. When I finally tried it, I was rather dismayed by the parking situation: a small lot that's hard to get into and has few spaces even when the place is not crowded inside. Just park in the neighborhood I guess. The setup inside is counter service, not full waiter service, which works reasonably well for this quick-cooking style of food as it keeps everything moving, but nonetheless makes me wonder what I'm tipping for. The pizza itself is notable in that it can be extensively customized. Often the more Italian places are very precious about their house recipes, but here you can build with a fairly extensive and very detailed list of toppings. It also means that while they have no vegan cheese or anything, if you simply don't want cheese, you don't have to pay for it; just pick some other toppings. I wasn't blown away with their non-pizza offerings but I did try some eggplant and cheese arancini. Whatever cheese they used in those was one of the more odiferous ones and wasn't quite to my liking, but I ate it; let's move on to the pizza. The pizza arrived sliced into quarters and had a nice bubbly crust. I got it with buffalo mozzarella, and it delivered the wet center, crisp perimeter, and mix of salt and sweet flavors I came for. The peppers were tasty, the pine nuts I ordered were interesting but a little sparse, while the arugula on top was plentiful. I've not been persuaded to abandon my DC pizzas, but it was certainly a quality meal. read more

I could eat here 3x a day if I could. Fresh ingredients, made to order and the crust is the perfect amount of chewy and crispy. I'd suggest eating at the restaurant so it doesn't get soggy on your way home. I got the prosciutto arugula--can't get a better Italian combo than that. And the pesto pizza--fresh, flavorful basil pulled together the mozzarella and the walnuts added the perfect crunch. Definitely want to try an app next time. Great pizza place! It's very hip and nicely decorated inside. Good luck finding parking but it's definitely do-able. The parking lot is pretty small but there's other parking close-by. You wait in line while watching them make the pizza to order. In the next room is the seating area. I was surprised to see a lot of seating. It's recommended to get a pizza for yourself but I recommend coming with other people so you can try a bunch of them! I went with one other person and shared a Chorizo and Ham & Mushroom. The pizza sauce had good flavor and was fresh, but unfortunately the uber driver made some random drop off in the middle of my delivery and the pizza arrived cold. HANDS DOWN LOVE THEIR PIZZA! I have been dreaming about their Margherita DOC that I had to have pupatella the next day! The dough is crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The sauce is just absolutely amazing and the toppings were fresh. We have tried other pizza options and have not been disappointed. Close to authentic Neapolitan pizza here in the DMV. They have all the certifications and that's exactly what you want to look for when it comes to real Italian pizza! I visited this place during covid and used Yelp to order my pizza. The pick up was easy and efficient. They had just opened there patio but I took mine to go. The portion size is good for 1-2 ppl per pizza. Not as large as American pizza. The ingredients are fresh and definitely certified because the flavor was there! They have a wood fired oven which makes the crust have a great char to it. It's also chewy and soft (how it's served in Italy). The middle of the pizza just melts in your mouth. The tomato sauce is sweet and the cheese gives it a creamy texture. They have the qualities of a great pizza and that's what sold me on them. Solid 4 stars at Pupatella! I had the prosciutto arugula and subbed burrata for mozzarella. The sauce is flavorful, burrata perfectly melted, generous shaved parmesan and super fresh baby arugula on top. Two small complaints: (1) The crust isn't crunchy at all... it's mostly chewy despite being charred. (2) The prosciutto is cut a little too thick for my taste. The thinner the better! I recently moved to the area and discovered Pupatella. It's close to my house, so I appreciate the convenience of it, plus the waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. The first time I sat inside, but now that the weather is a little cooler in the evenings, I sat out back in their outdoor seating area. I didn't realize how much room they have back there...it's huge! Plus there are lots of tables that can accommodate a couple or larger groups. It's very nice, plus I love the outdoor lights. I've had several of their pizzas, and they are delicious. The pepperoni pizza is loaded with LOTS of pepperoni, which I love. The ham and mushroom pizza is also yummy. Two of us shared two different pizzas, and we had 3-4 slices left over, which was nice. They have a good wine and beer selection, and they offer gelato for dessert. Definitely a fun spot! read more

Updating my review for the spinach pizza that I recently got delivered through ubereats. I tried the margherita pizza and loved it, but I was a little disappointed by the spinach pizza. It felt like it was made haphazardly and thee spinach to cheese ratio was a little off. The pine nuts weren't very well integrated into the pizza and they kept falling off. The crust was cooked great and had a little bit of an oven burn on it but it wasn't an overwhelmingly burnt taste. I want to like this place.. I really do :( . Pupatella has been bookmarked for months now due to all the great reviews & my quest to find all the best food in the area. So today I finally decided to check it out to see if I've found my go to pizza spot. Tbh I've never been big on pizza, but ever since my most recent trip to New York..I've kind of become a pizza snob ! Hoping to find the same greatness in Pupatella's pizza, I started with the basics and ordered the Classic DOC w/ extra cheese and added garlic. It smelled amazing and looked amazing. Upon the first bite, I was completely underwhelmed. The sauce was light, a little runny, and not very flavorful. The cheese was just blah-- and didn't give me the cheesy melty goodness I was looking for. *Note, I ordered to go so maybe it's a different experience dining in (although I don't think that would change the lack of flavor). Pupatella never disappoints. The pizzas are always made fresh with amazing ingredients. A friend and I went to Pupatella for lunch. We each ordered a pizza - the Margherita DOC and the Caivano. They came out within 15 minutes of ordering. I loved my Margherita DOC, the buffalo mozzarella with their delicious tomato sauce and basil is superb. I will say, I do wish they added more basil on my pizza, it was a little bare for my taste. The perfectly thin pizzas are always cooked right on point. The crust is crisp on the outside and still slightly chewy on the inside. My friend devoured his Caivano which was loaded with meat and cooked just as perfectly. The inside of Pupatella is completely closed off to employees only. They provide outdoor dining (along with delivery and curbside pick up) with a surprisingly huge patio for dine in. The set up is cute and light. They have socially distant tables with umbrellas set up along with a small bonfire area which would be wonderful for evenings. We had takeout for three people including the pepperoni pizza, cappriciosa pizza, Arancini and meatballs. Everything was good but the non-pizza items stole the show for me. For the arancini we were able to get one of each (sausage and eggplant) in an order; an order comes with two arancinis and even though it wasn't on the menu they let us do one and one which I always appreciate. They were both excellent and maintained a crispy exterior and hot interior. Couldn't be better. The meatballs, four to an order, were excellent as well and came with a couple pieces of bread and a generous amount of red sauce which they sat in. Yum. The pizza had good flavor for sure, and maybe it would have been different if I'd eaten in person, but for me, the thin crust, a signature of the Neapolitan pizzas, was too thin to hold the toppings (and this was a pizza that offered, not that I "created"). It just kind of flopped over. So that was a little surprising and disappointing. The flavor was good and the end crusts where it was thicker had great taste too. If I go again I'd be inclined to dine in and/or stick to non-pizza offerings. read more

It's not a huge pizza, but worth the price based on the amount of ingredients on it. I even stopped from eating the last piece so I could enjoy a slice for breakfast. The Brussels sprouts are ok. Texas jacks still tops my list on in the Brussel sprout department. But all is good, it's not what I came for. Cute little restaurant in Arlington! There is a parking lot in the front which is convenient, be careful when getting out though because the way the parking lot is set up, it is hard to get out of. I saw this on Yelp the other day and had to try it! Based on the Yelp reviews I did take the recommendation to order pizzas without too many toppings. When we walked in, the staff was friendly and they let us sit where we wanted. The waitress was courteous and polite, helpful when we asked questions. We started with the mozzarella balls which were delicious and fried perfectly, I would say they are definitely better than most mozzarella sticks I have had. We got the Margherita Pizza and the Mimosa Pizza. I liked them both (I thought the Margherita Pizza was better but my friend liked the Mimosa Pizza better). For dessert she got the double scoop of Gelato, you can get two separate flavors so she ordered the Oreo and Hazelnut. I ordered the Tiramisu. The desserts with both ok, but nothing too special.
