Inside of restaurant is awesome and very cool vibe, food looked and tasted great, drinks were awesome. The service however was sub par. Bartender acted like the two people in my party at 7pm on a Friday night were inconveniencing him. Dirty looks, passive aggressive comments, and ignorant service. I looked forward to dining at Puntamar, it's summer and you can enjoy sitting in an open style restaurant. I had checked the menu on the restaurant's website, however, the menu did not match what we were offered at the restaurant. There were two soups on the menu, I chose the one with shrimp. I did not take a picture of the menu and I cannot for sure say what the dish was named. I remember it was based on a tomato bisque, with shrimp, noodles and tortilla strips. When the dish arrived it came in a bowl, however, the noodles were all in the center of the dish piled up, but no liquid. When I questioned that I had ordered a soup, I was told that in Mexico City soup is not soup and this was the dish. I was surprised and said OK. I started eating and I'm sure it would have been a wonderful meal when all the ingredients would have been emergent in water. It tasted very salty and very much like concentrated soup base that should have been deluded. read more

First time here and thought it wasn't bad. It wasn't busy at all, but for some reason things were moving really slowly. It took SO long to get our food. Probably one of the longest I've had to wait for a while. I wanted to order more food but had to confirm with the server (who was actually really good and kind) if it would take as long as everything else. I ordered the Machu Pichu Ceviche. I love peruvian ceviche and assumed it was going to have a peruvian flare....not at all. There was no corn, no sweet potato, no aji amarillo. It was good, but not worth the price. My girlfriend ordered the galician octopus. It was brought on the skillet full of veggies, potatoes, the lemon, and of course the octopus. You couldn't see the bottom of the skillet. I tried a bite and ordered one for myself too. It was a completely different plate. Octopus didn't have the crispy char, there was 10% of the veggie that my girlfriend had, and the potatos were definitely not as crispy. The skillet looked bare like something was forgotten. I was SO confused. Server was sweet and gave my girlfriend 1/2 off of her octopus because it took a while to get, but my ceviche took just as long and my galician octopus was nowhere close to what I was expecting after I saw what my girlfriend got. My other girlfriend ordered the octopus tacos.....yuck! Mustve been a bad day for whoever was working in the kitchen. I really want this restaurant to survive so I hope they make improvements. For the prices they are charging, they really need to step everything up. Other than that, the setup and decor of the restaurant was beautiful. I honestly never leave reviews but I truly feel like this one is needed. I went here with my family of 4 (including me) on Wednesday July 17th at around 6pm. The place next door that we were originally going to go to was closed so we decided to check this place out instead since it wasn't very busy. The whole experience was pretty lackluster and disappointing. First, the tables and chairs are extremely uncomfortable and bothered me the entire time. Second, the service was extremely slow and nobody really checked on us (which is odd because we had 2 people taking turns waiting on us and they asked for our drink order twice). We had empty waters, drinks, and plates the majority of the time. When the food finally did arrive, it was tasteless, bland, and had no seasoning. 3 out of 4 of us got the quesabirrias and of course on my very first bite I bit into a long piece of plastic about 6 inches long (I'm assuming from the birria meat bag). I literally pulled it out of my mouth and then out of one of the pieces of quesadilla. When I showed one of the servers we had she was apologetic but not to the extent I was hoping for. They ended up removing my food with the plastic from the bill and brought me a new plate of food but at that point my whole family was done eating and I had lost my appetite. Also, I got the house margarita twice and they were extremely inconsistent. The first one was okay tasting but not great and the second one had no salt on the rim (for any of us) and was so overly sweet I couldn't even finish it. Overall our experience wasn't great and I wouldn't go back or recommend this place to anybody. She said they only opened about a month ago but at this rate I don't see them being open for much longer. read more

Great night with good food. The tuna tlacoyos were amazing! Unfortunately the "chips" they had were stale. Our first round of drinks were great, however second round was syrupy and fake tasting. We've visited three times and been so impressed with the quality of the food and service every time. So many well prepared and delicious choices, but we loved the ceviche, tlacoyos, and branzino. Service was very spotty, the waiter forgot half of our table's drinks that were ordered when we were first seated. Later he was asked for another drink and he completely forgot it, not until about 20 min later did he ask the same family member if she wanted another drink. Ooooook!? That took forever to arrive and half the group was done eating when the other half got their food. The place wasn't busy either, there were 2 other tables with 2 people at each table. One of our tables was so wobbly that we were being careful not to move. In the middle of service someone came to put some kind of shim on the table leg. Mind you this was about 5pm so it had been like that probably all day for other services. The tables we were at were right next to the kitchen so we could hear the waiters and kitchen staff joking and calling each other "guey" and cussing at each other in Spanish. I speak Spanish and have been a restaurant owner in the past. This is a big no-no. Not professional at all. Let's move on to the food. The quesabirrias looked quite tasty. I didn't try it but my kids did and they loved them. The chicken fingers and fries, the chicken fingers looked overcooked and dry but my kids didn't seem to mind. The fries, you could count on 1 hand and they quite literally give you a "pump" of ketchup. My 5yro kept running out, the chicken was too dry so he had to keep asking for more. The waiter asked if we wanted 1 pump or 2? Can you just bring a ketchup bottle? I some of us had the trio tacos. They were very tasty but I imagined actual full sized tacos​, they were mini tacos. I also had the flan de la abuela, the consistensy was off but the flavor was definitely way off. The churros were a bit over cooked, I don't know if they had been reheated but kind of hard to tear apart with your bite. The one that that really got me though and I swear this was such a disappointment were the $60 ribs for 2. My husband is a big guy who eats lots of protein, so he thought this plate would be perfect, it said 48oz, he was going to share with his sister who hadn't decided yet what she wanted. When he got his plate there were 2 short ribs on his plate. I wish I had snapped a picture. $60 for 2 short ribs!? Highway robbery. If you're planning to order this, bring your scales! There were lots of things we had tried ordering and were told they were out. The amount and quality of food to price ratio just isn't mathing. Way too expensive for the quality of service and food. Seems this place is more about trying to be artsy with the food than all around quality. Yes the decor is nice and it seems that attracts customers but it's not like you're going to eat the decor. They use coconuts as a gimmick to wow you but like, it's just a coconut. In the end, we don't plan on going there again, not even for free. I'm not even going to get started on the chips and salsa. The 3 tiny tostadas with a drop of 3 salsas that your whole group will have to share if anybody wants some. I feel 2 stars is way generous. Living so close to the border I thought I would have to get my passport ready whenever I wanted a Michelada. Enter Punta Mar, a beautifully designed and decorated cantina/restaurant in Encinitas, an hour away from Tijuana. Upon entering this relatively new establishment I was hoping for the best but was preparing to be disappointed by another imitation Mexican experience. I was pleasantly surprised by fair service, a robust but concise menu, and otherworldly Micheladas. Reading the menu and descriptions of the drink helped me understand the extravagance of what was to be served but I could in no way be prepared for the colossal, monstrous beverage that was slammed down in front of me...ay dios mío! A giant, frosty mug, brimming with sudsy, spicy beer and a liberally coated rim of Chimoy and Tajin, and a sea creatures tentacles stretched out, ready to pull me into the red depths below. The flavors were perfect down to the last spicy ice cube and when the food arrived, I was already satisfied. The chicken mole and quesobirria were rich and flavorful as was their guacamole and salsa--que rico! I look forward to returning to the picante, briny deep of Puntamar to try another one of their many Michelada and entree options. read more

the ambience is pleasant, breezy with a casual vibe, sitting on the interior courtyard is comfortable, a nice breeze even when hot, servers were welcoming and helpful showing photos of dishes we had questions about. The Mexican pizza is very tasty and shareable, the guacamole was light and tasty, very few chips came with the order, drinks look good, friend had mojito, hubs had a baby corona, the sauces were tasty, a few not spicy, taco trio was filled with meat, ,husband got a piece of bone in his beef, melody tuna appetizer was yummy, the meal ended with churros served on a brightly painted boat with a sparkler and dipping sauces, overall, good food, festive space, a few 4 top low tables and high tops, wheelchair accessible, nice music playlist., from the patio on long bar is seen, but drinks come from the other bar in the adjoining building to the south, meal was on the more expensive side, but really enjoyable read more
