why does none of your staff stay? I started out with Tanner, then I moved to Caitlyn, then I moved to Vanessa, then I moved to poppy (not my favorite), so then Lisa, and finally shannon. (I say finally because I am done with pump and their inconsistent service). What is it / why do your employees not stay? This is frustrating as all of them claim to have noncompetes when messaging them about trying to follow them elsewhere. I won't recommend or come back. Save your TIME and money. Apparently this salon isn't ran like most salons/businesses. I took weeks to find a stylist that supposedly has the experience with blondes. I have a very busy schedule myself and it's hard to book any appointment especially working around a specific stylist's schedule too. I deliberately booked this appointment with enough advancement too. Not only was I on time I was 40 minutes early. I thought even perhaps I could get in a little earlier but that was being hopeful. Instead, I sat there with NO FRONT DESK HELP or communication skills. They didn't ask who I am, whom I was waiting for, nothing. Instead I walked up and asked how much longer since it's now passed the time I was scheduled for. Response "oh stylist is running behind it's out of our control". 1. It's not out of your control. Find another way to accompany clientele for the unprofessionalism of the stylist and apparently front desk too. 2. Proper business being ran understands time management and booked appointments aren't taken lightly in a salon setting. 3. 30-40 more of waiting before getting started? So what was the point of bookings? 4. If I haven't asked and walked up to the counter myself nothing would have been said. Unprofessionalism to a T. 5. Perhaps re train your employees to understand the importance of running a business and relations to time management is a key factor. read more

I have to admit something to you... I normally get my hair cut at GreatClips. Have you seen me before? My hairstyle isn't exactly revolutionary and a simple "1 on the sides and a trim on top" doesn't take a rocket scientist to complete. But, alas, I came to pump with the hopes to up my hair game a little bit and try something new. Overall, my experience at pump salon was good. Julia, my stylist, was friendly, provided a great cut, and I left looking sharp. But I also didn't leave with anything "new." I walked out the door with the same style and little disappointed that I wasn't given many style tips, ideas of trying something new. I think next time, I'm going to have to hit up one of the salons in town marketed specifically towards men. Especially if I'm paying twice what I would pay at an in-and-out style barber shop, I definitely want to feel like I'm getting something I can't get elsewhere. But overall, there's definitely some great things to say about Pump Salon. If you're a guy and you're not used to it, there's something very special about having someone else shampoo your hair during a haircut... it's therapeutic. I've been coming to Pump since Jess started there about about a year ago and have always left with a gorgeous new style. I live in Indianapolis and this means driving two hours just to see her. Knowing her for almost 20 years, I can easily give her an idea of what I want and she makes it work for my hair. She knows I am super low maintenance and she plans, cuts, and colors accordingly. My experience at Pump was truly 5 Stars. I came here somewhat on a whim after a friend came (also on a whim) and liked her cut - both of us do not color our hair so I figured if she liked Pump then maybe I would too. I was informed by my friend of the different "levels" of hair stylists at Pump which was super helpful as I was making my appointment - which I made an online (!) without a credit card needed - this I REALLY appreciated that I didn't need to call to make an appointment. Upon arrival I was quickly greeted and told that Jessica (who I had scheduled with) was just finishing up another cut - I appreciated that they were honest so that when I was seen a couple minutes late I knew exactly why. The salon overall was cute and trendy and definitely on the Bumble and bumble and Sebastian train as products and advertisements were literally everywhere! Jessica was very professional and the turn around from sitting down and explaining the cut I wanted to washing my hair was extremely quick and I honestly have not had anyone shampoo/condition my hair as thoroughly as Jessica did ever before. I gave Jessica some free reign with my hair as I had not gotten in cut in almost a year and just wanted some framing, long layers and a few inches off. When it came to styling at the end I again gave her free reign (this time total) to do what she wanted - most people probably find this scary, but I was super thankful I took this route as Jessica did an AMAZING job!! Both my cut and styling were perfect and looked super natural. Jessica has worked at Pump for 3 years and clearly knows the products well and was super easy to talk to the entire time. After a recommendation from a friend, we visited Pump Salon and were so glad we did. My teenage son was hesitant to have his hair cut, since the last time we went to a different salon in the fall, the stylist didn't ask questions or listen to him and cut it REALLY short. Finding a new hair salon can be one of the hardest things, but I lucked out with Pump Salon. I called this evening at 5:50pm to see if I could schedule an appointment for later in the week, and they got me in at 6:30 that same evening! The Salon itself is located in a perfect spot. It is in the Rookwood Shopping Center, which is convenient to run some errands before or after your appointment. Upon walking into Pump, it's a very modern salon. Pop music was on the radio, and they have edgy colors and decorations. Jessica, my hair stylist, did a fantastic job. I just wanted a basic trim, and she did just that. I really don't understand what the girl did. I told her I wanted a 3/0 on my new growth and just lightened up and toned a little more on the ends. She didn't put any color on my new growth, instead pulled the 3 through random pieces of my hair and did a Bayalage on the rest. Except, she made my bangs red and I honestly don't know what she did. At the end, after redoing my bangs again she said, "Well I tried." Luckily I had an appointment to get my haircut with Samantha at Mitchell's afterwards and she was able to fix it but I ended up spending 7+ hours at the salon. read more

Got bayalage for the first time before my wedding. I actually missed my appointment because I mixed up the times, and totally freaked out but Jessica came in ON HER DAY OFF to accommodate me. Took a bit of a risk coloring my hair to cover some greys and bring some life back to it before the big day, and wow did Jessica do a good job! I also had kind of a funky haircut I was growing out and she fixed me right up. I can finally wear my hair down again and the cut is so great it even air drys beautifully. THANK YOU JESSICA! Women of dark hair beware!!! If I could give this place zero stars I would based on the way they treat the clients that come in time and again and pay $150 plus dollars per hair color and cut/ style. After coming here for the last year and a half and a botched highlight job (that Lisa retoned and fixed last time!) I came back to get it corrected once again with a re-tone when it wasn't right again (I'm patient when colorists are learning what works on my dark black hair). Upon my return all I received was ignorant attitude, lack of empathy, and negative, rude behavior from this other stylist who was supposed to correct my hair (luckily not Lisa). This new colorist's response to me saying my color was brassy was "well you should've never gone that light with black hair"... Let me ask is it my job to tell "how light" the bleach is or the colorist's job when I'm under foils?!! And then when I'm near tears answering her questions "how are you feeling" (because I look like a raccoon died on my head). I'm coming off a week of the Flu, and a birthday next week, and man did I need this pick me up, but it was horrendous. I was so angry I walked out of there with my skunk hair and don't ever.ever.EVER plan to return. read more

I went in for a partial to go lighter blonde from my natural blonde color. Unfortunately, my stylist let me leave with brassy orange/ yellow hair. I didn't notice until I was in the car and I was so embarrassed I wore a hat until the next day when they got me in to get it toned to remove some brassiness. She partially blow dried my hair, but when I left I noticed again my hair was still so yellow. I ended buying an Ash Blonde box dye and fixing it myself. I was so disappointed because I spent over $130 for something I ended having to spend more money and time to fix myself. I had been coming to Pump Salon for 15 years with happy results. I moved away for a few years and just recently started coming back. Im not sure if it's under different management or what, but the quality has gone down hill. The first appt I made, I arranged a baby sitter and showed up only to be told the receptionist had accidentally canceled my appt. and I would have to come back another day. When I said I had already paid for a babysitter, I was met with little sympathy and a curt manager. I decided to give Pump another try though the following year. Spending money coloring my hair is not something I do often, so when I make an appt it's a special treat- usually as a birthday present or something similar. I showed up for my 3p appt at 2:50 with the stylist Madison. I sat there until 3:40 before my stylist came to get me. While I was waiting, I could see her cutting another customer's hair and at times, she would have the stylist working next to her come over and cut the hair for her/explain how to do it. When I finally sat down for my appt, I told her I wanted my roots touched up and some highlights added. She then spent 15-20 minutes talking to the stylist working next to her, asking how she would go about achieving what I had asked for. The stylist working next to her had to explain several times how to dye my hair. It was very unnerving to feel like she had no idea what she was doing, especially after witnessing her doing a similar thing with the client before me. It was well after an hour from my original appt time before she even began on my hair, with multiple breaks throughout the process to ask the stylist next to us what to do. When it got to be 3.5 hours of me sitting at the salon and my hair was still soaking wet and not styled, I told her I had to get home because it was taking too long. My hair color was much darker than what was asked and my scalp burned and then itched the following week like crazy. Long story short, I'm confused why this stylist is working solo at a salon of this quality. She needs to spend a lot more time shadowing before being advertised as a stylist and charging $160. This salon is the perfect location, located in the Rookwood shopping center, there is ample parking and easy in and out access. The staff is very friendly, and the stylists really know what they're doing! When you arrive they offer you something to drink, and I've never waited long once I arrive for my appointment. The salon is kept very clean! The salon features Bumble and Bumble products (my fav!) and great too of the line styling tools. I never feel rushed during my hair appointments and they block out enough time for each client. Pricing is average, not cheap by any means, but not the most expensive. They have new client promotions and specials online if you want to try it out, which I found really helpful the first time I went! Overall it's a great salon, Charlie has been doing my hair for years and she's great! My mom and sister both go here as well! It's a family friendly salon I would highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Pump for a couple of years now. The hours are very retail-esque so you have plenty of times and days to choose from. The location is right in Rookwood so plenty of parking and easy to get to. The space has a very industrial vibe. You can schedule appointments online, which I love. I like being able to see what is available rather than just calling and going back and forth on what works and when. You have to be a bit careful with pricing. The different stylists all have different designations. The higher the destination, the pricier the cost. Again, online you can see this vs. just calling/walking in and maybe not knowing. It's not the cheapest but it's not the most expensive either. They use bumble and bumble products, which I enjoy. There are always jolly ranchers at the front and you get a water/soft drink too if you're thirsty. Abby is the absolute best!!!!! She is so friendly and always makes me look fabulous. Im sure there are other stylists there that are wonderful, but my experience was less than average. I just went in for a tone. One receptionist was super friendly, the other looked very uninviting.. My service was on time and the waiting area was super comfortable. Right away when I met my stylist she seemed either in a rush or just not into me as a client. I had my hair in a bun, no makeup on, and was probably one of the least fancy people dressed there. So i felt kind of awkward. But i was out running errands, having a crappy day and figured i would treat myself. My stylist did give me some good advice on maintaining grey hair AFTER letting me know my hair was super dry, my ends looked horrible, and that im using cheap conditioner.. Of course it wasn't worded snooty, but thats how it made me feel. She tried to force some small talk, but didn't really seem interested in me. Afterwards, she asked if I wanted her to blow dry my hair but mentioned it would cost more so i said no. Ive never been to a salon where having your hair dried when you leave is an extra cost. At least include it in the aervice cost and make it mandatory. I left the salon feeling gross and a mess as I still had toner, conditioner or something still on my cheeks, ears and neck.. I may go back and try someone else. But likely ill just look for a different salon. read more

Pump was recommended to me by a friend. I hate leaving such a bad review because the stylist was very nice, but the amount of money I spent there for what I got makes me sick to my stomach even a few weeks later. I went in with all over brown hair and wanted caramel blond balayage. I showed the stylist several pictures and we seemed to be on the same page. My appointment ended very late and it was dark outside so I wasn't able to really see what it looked like until the next day. I was so disappointed because it literally looked like my previous brown dye had just faded at the ends. It didn't look like highlights whatsoever and the color was very dull. It was like the color you get from being in a swimming pool all summer. So I called and made an appointment for her to fix it. This is where I really got annoyed because when I went back in she blamed it on me saying I wanted "caramel" and if she had known I wanted it that light she would've let the bleach sit on longer (even though I had shown her several pictures). I was just baffled because they didn't see a problem with my hair. They then proceeded to tell me they couldn't put more bleach on and I would need to come back in 4 weeks for more highlights. Why in the world would I pay over $100 again for them to add more highlights? I am so disgusted by my hair that I keep having to wear it up and I'm extremely tempted to buy box dye and dye it back to the dark brown it was before. Biggest waste of $150 ever. read more

As my highlights began to grow out, I searched for a new colorist in true Yelper fashion. I happened upon the rave reviews for Heather and immediately booked an appointment with her. I can safely say she earned for 5 stars and then some. Pump Salon is awesome, very funky and industrial. I'm an Apple freak so I was impressed that they had two Apple's set up in the waiting room. Everyone here seems to have their own style, which definitely speaks to the type of people they hire. Heather is exactly what I would expect in Boston, and what I've been looking for in Cincinnati. She has a cool, ecletic look and a full sleeve of tattoos. I've seen her twice now, once for simple blond highlights that turned out perfect and grew out naturally. On my second visit I wanted something a little funky so I mentioned wanting to put some violet in my hair. She recommended placing them sporadically underneath my hair so they wouldn't leave me with nasty roots. I can't wait to go dark during the winter to see what she'll do. Just a warning about Pump Salon that when you only have color done you won't get a blow out. I opted out but Heather hooked me up with a little product in my hair so it would dry without massive amounts of frizz. read more

The manager recently contacted me and offered a complimentary blow out with Tanner on Friday evening. I really appreciated the gesture and of course Tanner did a great job. He's an excellent stylist. Considering booking my next appointment with him. I will let my original review remain here. ---- The first time I went to this salon I was fairly pleased. Customer service was so-so but I was happy enough with my cut. Cydney cut my hair (very curly and pretty long too). She blew it out straight for me and it took a little longer than she thought it would. She had the receptionist note that I might need extra time in the future. The second time Cydney wasn't available and I was scheduled with Tanner. Usually it takes quite a bit of time to cut my hair and he did it relatively quickly. For the most part I was happy with the cut again - and two weeks later it was absolutely perfect. Curly hair always needs times to settle after getting cut, in my opinion. Tanner gave me one of the longest lasting blow outs I have ever had! It was great. This last time I went, yesterday, I had an 8 pm appointment with Cydney - she is a master designer and sometimes doesn't have availability. I had my hair cut 12 weeks ago. I know the suggestion is 8 weeks but sometimes that's too soon or sometimes I am out of town. Either way, it was 12 weeks and there was nothing I could do about it. Before I even got to the salon yesterday the receptionist called me and left a message about my appointment. She essentially told me that Cydney couldn't blow out my hair this time because there wasn't enough time. She said it in a round about way by talking up the new curl line from Bumble and Bumble. I wasn't dying for a blowout on a Monday night because I usually like to get them before the weekend. I was surprised by some of the comments that Cydney made while she was doing my hair. She kept mentioning that it had been too long. But come on, 12 weeks isn't THAT long. In fact, it got to a point (obviously because I am writing this review) that it actually started to make me feel uncomfortable. My hair wasn't in perfect shape but it wasn't awful either. She insisted on cutting an inch off and certainly cut more than that. My hair looked just barely okay last night after it dried but I wasn't happy with how my face framing layers turned out - even though I cautioned her about too much or too little during the cut. Today it looks even worse and I am not thrilled. She offered for me to call her if I was unhappy, within two weeks. I am going to wait a few more days and see what happens but honestly, she just took too much off and it looks like she cut it straight across. A bad hair cut is one thing, we all get them from time to time. But I really didn't appreciate the multiple comments she made. "wow, you really did need a hair cut!" "It looks so much better now! I had been to Pump Salon a few years ago and I don't think I was that impressed. It had been several months since I last had a hair cut, so I went on yelp and saw some pretty good reviews so I decided to go back. I chose Heather, because she was mentioned a lot and praised highly. Let me tell you...I was not disappointed. I was excited to go online and see that you could chose your time an stylist on their website, however, it was acting up and kept saying there was an error. So hence, I just called and was able to get the date and time that I wanted. I am also leery about going to someone new as you never know what you are going to get. I have gone to expensive places and cheap places and can honestly say that Heather is the best stylist I have ever had! I have very thick hair, which can look cute when cut properly, and she did exactly what I asked of her and more. She totally "got it" and spent close to an hour on me. She was very friendly, which always helps, and the prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be coming back on a regular basis. Had an appointment today with morgan to get an updo for the military ball tonight. This was my first time going to Pump so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. She did a wonderful job! I showed her pictures of what I was looking for in an updo and she made it look just like the picture, if not better! I highly recommend Morgan to anyone seeking a hair style for a special occasion. She was very personable and made me feel comfortable. The price of the updo was quite reasonable as well! The only negative to my experience was the receptionist. She was on her phone the whole time and barely put it down when I went to check in and then when I was paying at the end. The receptionist needs to be more personable. I was expecting to pay the regular rate, but when I got to the register, it was was more. I was told that because my hair took extra time (?) there was an extra charge. I was only getting my current style trimmed, so I was okay going with one of the less experienced stylists. She did a great job of providing a consultation before the cut to ensure she knew what I wanted and she also had a couple suggestions, which I ended up taking. I didn't realize before I went that Pump is actually owned by Mitchell's Day Spa. The stylists all go through the same training as the Mitchell's stylists, but the cost of the services are less expensive! Bottom Line: I will be going back for my next cut. read more

I have been going to Pump for about a year and have seen Tanner each time. I'm always pleased with my haircut and we get along well. He's social, which is nice. Nothing more awkward than getting your haircut from someone in silence. Not the case with Tanner! Pump recently closed for 2 weeks to renovate and remodel. They claim to have spent 6 figures on the remodel. The most noticeable difference is the paint color. To be fair, I didn't think it was dated before, so it looks good either way. The only gripe I have with the salon is the lack of receptionists. There is always just one working in the evenings during peek hours. The receptionist checks you in, rings people out, answers the phones, books appointments, etc. I always see them working hard; too hard actually. They are usually so busy I can't check in for my appointment and have to wait in line to check out after my haircut. read more
