I have wavy-to-curly hair, and needed someone who could properly handle it. The first place I went to when I moved to the area wasn't great, so I tried High Five after some research and booked a curly cut with Ashley. I'd never had a curly cut before, but Ashley talked me thru her process and it turned out great. I was so happy! I just went back after a few months for another cut and the curly cut and Ashley's care definitely helps bring out the curls and waves and it's amazing. Is it a bit expensive? Sort of - but I can go several months without a cut bc of how my hair is, so it works out (vs. having a particular straight hair style that needs more frequent trims). And Ashley's cut grows out nicely so it makes it easy to let my hair grow a bit in between trims. read more

I can't speak to the quality of their services, but I can let potential customers know that this salon did not inform me of their $90 no show fee when I made my appointment. Unfortunately, I was sick on the day of my appointment and was subsequently charged $90. When I called to address the charge, the manager insisted that I knew about the policy despite having no proof. When I asserted that they can't charge for a policy the other party had no awareness of, the manager attempted to guilt trip me/manipulate me into agreeing to it after the fact. read more

I have tried different hair salons and this one was beyond my expectations. I do not trust anyone with my hair and they really took the time to listen to not only what I want but also what I don't want done to it. I'm not really great at explaining but Rachel and Sam were attentive and experienced enough to interpret what I meant while showing me pictures of what their suggestions would look like, including me in every step they took. I decided to give High Five Salon a try after seeing the reviews on Yelp and was not disappointed. Booking online was super easy. I'm guilty of letting my hair grow way too long and then cutting it short, but Anna was absolutely wonderful about it. She was very thorough and took the time to make sure the cut she gave me fit my needs and looked great - and I was done in under an hour. With what was probably 8" off, I feel so much lighter. Booked a haircut and style last minute with Anna after flying into town for a wedding (not ours!), and it couldn't have gone better. I hadn't had my hair cut in at least 6-8 months, but she was wonderful about taking the time to look it over in detail and help me decide on how to trim and add in some face framing and layers into what had been some pretty drab hair. I am so excited to have found high five! A friend recommended I try them and it has been a hit from my first step in the door! I booked an appointment with Ashley for my boyfriend who had been unhappy with the salon he was going to. He absolutely loved it-Ashey took the time to make him feel pampered: putting hot towels on his face, trimming around his ears and neck, and just being in a friendly mood. Then I booked my appointment-again, with Ashley. I have really curly hair so I'm usually nervous about trying a new salon. Curls can get destroyed easily and take forever to grow back long enough to salvage a mistake. Luckily Ashley was very knowledgeable from the start and made me feel not only comfortable but excited! I ended up doing a full foil set of highlights and a cut. I was so happy with both! She took the time to use 3 different colors for my foil to keep it looking natural and even out my summer highlights that were a little off. She even called me later to make sure we were both happy! I literally don't have enough good to say about this salon. From the minute I walked in, I was treated with kindness by every person with whom I interacted. The decor is amazing and the environment is very relaxed. I was offered a drink and then waited on the comfortable couches for my stylist to come get me. Samantha was an absolute delight. She is bubbly and energetic, and we discussed my current hair cut and looked at some pictures before getting down to business. She then took me to wash my hair, which included both an amazing scalp AND hand massage, something I had never been offered at a hair salon. She then cut and styled my hair, and the best part was that she walked me through step by step with detail how to achieve the look I wanted. She was patient, and thorough in answering all of my questions. Kind, homey service, with talented stylists. The space follows suit... the booths are unique and stylish, and it doesn't feel sterile and boring as many salons do. They offer sweet little perks that make for great customer service, like free local caramels, LeCroix, and free bang trims, which I take full advantage of. Plus, the stylists make a point of making you feel like the best-looking person in the room, even though haircuts can be mildly traumatic and scary. Took a star off for the steep prices, though. $60-80 (minimum, plus tip) for a haircut felt like a serious investment. For me, I can't afford to drop that kind of money on a haircut unless I'm making a drastic change, so I go elsewhere for my trims. read more

I have been coming to High Five since 2017 when I decided to cut my own bangs as a freshman in college (not recommended) and needed some major help with the aftermath. On a whim, I booked with Emerson and 3 years later she (and her husband Tyler who does my sister's hair) is the best stylist I could have ever asked for. Everyone at High Five is beyond kind, welcoming, and damn good at their jobs. I really feel like a celebrity every time I walk out of the salon! I got one of the worst haircuts of my life and wore hats until I could set up another appointment with a different salon. The stylist I saw didn't pay attention to what I was looking for, but beyond that, just gave me a bad haircut. The place I got it fixed, thought I'd tried to cut my own hair. Going to High Five Salon is always a great experience, from the moment you walk in. The friendly receptionist will greet you and offer you water. The stylists will take care of you and leave you looking fabulous! And the receptionist will tell you how great you look as you pay and leave (or maybe that's something they only do for me :) This is a lot more than I feel comfortable paying, after an entire childhood of getting free haircuts from my mom. But I continue to go back because I know the experience and result will be quality!! Emerson is amazing and always styles my hair beautifully after giving me a haircut or highlights. P.S. I love High Five and have been coming here since it opened. I'm always happy with my haircut and don't necessarily always need to know what I want done with my hair when I come in, which I LOVE - the stylists here feel more like artists and they always have suggestions on a new type of cut. My hair is long, blonde and fine so there isn't a ton to do with it, but I've felt comfortable getting blunt bangs, long layers, etc. over the years without worrying it would look bad. I've had my hair cut by Samantha, Sam, Jesse, Emerson & Jenny and have been happy every time. Everyone is nice, upbeat, conversations don't feel forced, and the salon is pretty. It's clearly a labor of love and I recommend High Five to everyone new to Cincinnati. So, why the four stars instead of five? The price. Especially since my hair is so fine and straight, even the most involved haircuts don't take that long, and it feels like High Five has been consistently increasing its prices since they opened. I know you pay for quality, but it's been getting harder and harder to justify $80 haircuts (even with the free bang trims, which I love!) The other problem is booking. I love the online booking system, but at this point, you have to book weeks in advance. My work & school schedule is so unpredictable that that's difficult for me to know that long in advance if I can keep a hair appointment. Case in point: I just looked for an appointment today (July 13) and the next open women's cut online is on August 3 at 1pm (which is impossible with work). Bottom line - They're busy, which is great news for them, but I feel like longtime customers like me are getting priced and scheduled out - which makes me sad! read more

Christine was my lovely hairdresser. She was awesome and so was the salon itself. It was trendy but not in a snoody way. Cool art and decorations. When I went there for my appointment I was overwhelmed by how nice everyone was (not just my hair stylist). It hasn't been open that long but they know how to make their customers relaxed and comfortable. I didn't mind sitting in their waiting area either for the little time I was there. It gave me a chance to look around at their unique and fun artwork. They even offered me a Fanta while I was waiting. They also have a talented staff. My stylist was able to create a unique twist to my usual haircut, and I was happy with what she did. High five salon is the best salon in Cincinnati hands down. I had recently moved to Cincinnati and had been to several places before landing on high five. Not only is the atmosphere relaxing, cool, and earthy, the staff is to die for. Right when you walk in you are greeted with smiling faces. The salon is small- about 6 chairs I think which makes it feel super cozy. The owner Sam is literally the nicest person alive. He makes you feel beautiful and welcome. He is truly happy for your business and really cherishes his clients. I can't say enough about him. Jenny is not only my favorite stylist but she has become a true friend. She listens to what I want and makes the best happen! She is great at color and makes my cuts look effortless. She has good advice and will never steer you wrong. All the stylists there are amazing! You couldn't go wrong with any of them. They are all super stylish, kind, and know what they are doing. The prices are par with a GOOD salon cut and color. I would never pay less to get the great quality High Five offers. They use the highest products as well and they smell amazing. I have several of the products at home and am not disappointed. With every move I've ever made from one city to another, one of the hardest things to leave is my hairstylist. Sam and his team at High Five have set the bar very high - whoever does my hair next in my new city has some big shoes to fill. The salon itself is bright, open, and decorated very creatively - they use the space in a really interesting way. Everyone is incredibly nice, from the gals at the front desk to each of the stylists - even the ones who aren't working on you that day go out of their way to be friendly and always come across as genuine. They do a great job with color and cuts, the hand massage is a treat every time, and, in addition to their styling talents, Samantha and Tara do a great job with eyebrow shaping. (Plus, Samantha has great taste in music - they leave her playlist on whether she's there or not!) The High Five team is even impressive enough to have converted my husband into a guy who cares about his hair - not a small feat! Dell, Samantha, and Sam have all assisted with this. Finally (and a relatively small point), they don't ever push to sell their products. They explain what they're using and leave it at that. It's incredibly refreshing and avoids the awkward 'Thanks but no thanks' exchange that always seems to happen at every other salon I've been to. In fact, if I had one criticism, it would be that they don't always keep their products fully stocked - my husband nearly had a hair panic attack (I told you he was a convert) when they didn't have a leave-in conditioner he had been using. Dell to the rescue: he gave my husband the bottle he had been using at his station - granted, it was only about 2 day's worth, but it was enough to keep him calm and bridge the gap until the new shipment of the product arrived. read more
