I highly recommend High Five Salon! I've never reviewed anything before, but felt this salon deserved it! I have been unhappy with my hair for 4 years now. I used to live out west where they can create the perfect blonde time and time again. I was getting frustrated with the brassy blonde I kept getting no matter where I went, so I decided to take to Yelp. The reviews on here are spot on! The stylists definitely know what they are doing here! I saw Jenny, and booked another appointment before I left. She is the sweetest...so easy to talk to!! Since Jenny knew I had been unhappy for quite some time, she had the color specialist, Ashley, come over to take a look and consult. The fact that Jenny asked for a second opinion, and Ashley was willing to take time out of her schedule meant a lot. I left in love with my blonde! My first time at this salon was last night! Not only was it super close to where I live (walking distance) but from the moment I walked in until stepping out, I was very pleased! Everyone was so sweet! I had Jenny! Who I instantly bonded with over things we both enjoy. She also did an AMAZING job on my hair!! I read here a lot of positive reviews. I had been impressed and decided to visit it. However its all. The staff is nice and talkative but I was not happy with my new air. I showed photo which haircut I would like to have but after the cut it was strange. The effect: I was in much better places. I was expecting much much more higher level of experience. I never thought I would care about a "fancy haircut", but I love High Five! My wife and I followed "Emerson" there from her past salons and the overall experience is better than other salons. Emerson's talents have grown as well. I've gotten to know Sam, the owner, just from coming in and he really cares about the salon's mission - everyone is beautiful and deserves great style. As a thirty-something, I can't tell you how nice it is to have a haircut that is stylish AND work/interview appropriate. The staff (including the great front desk people - Patrick, Bridgit, Alyssa) really care to create a positive atmosphere and want you to feel good about the way you look. Great recent experience at this salon! From the time I called and booked my appointment until I was walking out the door with my fresh new hair, every aspect was superb. Emerson did a fabulous job with her balayage highlight technique and my cut. I have long hair and she took her time, didn't rush, and made sure we were on the same page as far as the outcome of my desired look was concerned. High Five is absolutely the best salon in Cincinnati. I had visited in the past and loved the atmosphere and quality, but a recent visit to another salon reinforced my opinion that no other salon can even come close to holding a candle to High Five. I made the mistake of visiting a different salon because I needed a haircut before leaving for vacation, and foolishly didn't make an appointment earlier with High Five. Needless to say it wasn't a great experience and the haircut was mediocre at best. Thankfully the next day, Josh had a last minute opening, and he was able to not only fix my hair, but also make it even better. He knew exactly what I hated about the other cut and what I wanted my hair to look like within a minute or so of talking to me. It was night and day from what I experienced the previous afternoon. I have also had Emerson cut my hair in the past, and she was excellent as well. They both have the talent and skills to understand what you want your hair to look like and then take it above and beyond expectations. I have no doubt that the other stylists are equally amazing. The quality of High Five is worth every penny, and I will never go to another salon in Cincinnati. read more

I really hate to leave a negative review because I wanted to like High Five Salon so badly. First the pros: Beautiful and trendy salon Very friendly staff Cons: Within the last year I started taking a medication that has made my hair slightly thinner. I explained this to the stylist and asked her to give me a blunt cut to keep my hair looking thicker with minimal layers to frame my face. Instead, she gave me what she called "her personalized cut." I pointed out that she was giving me layers in the back and it wasn't what I wanted but she assured me it would make my look thicker and give me movement. Unfortunately I left with my hair looking significantly thinner with a lot of layers. I put this review on hold for a couple months to give the cut time to maybe grow on me but it's just not what I asked for at all. My hair looks thinner and I'm much more insecure about it than I was before. I'm pretty disappointed considering I paid about $90 (including tip) and I left feeling worse than when I walked in. There are great reviews on here so perhaps my stylist was having an off day read more

I feel bad to leave a somewhat negative review, but I am left bothered after my experience. After researching high and low for a good salon in Cincinnati, I decided to give this one a try based on all of the impeccable reviews. The salon interior was gorgeous, everything with the receptionist was fine. The only thing that irked me was my haircut and haircut process. I was met immediately with my stylist and was taken downstairs to get my hair washed. I had the most rough shampooing of my entire life there, it wasn't that it was done carelessly, it was just that it was done roughly. The stylist's fingers dug into my scalp very hard and it hurt really bad, I being too shy, did not speak up, but felt like my scalp was being bruised with each finger. Then, I was led up to the haircut and even though the stylist tried to create conversation, it felt like one of the most forced, uninterested conversation ever. The stylist's chuckles were so fake, the conversation was so bland, and I couldn't help but feel "meh" throughout the entire experience. While blow drying my hair, the stylist's fingers were again rough and it hurt so bad. My hair after the experience is messed up, I will have to go to another hair stylist. Would definitely not come here again, even if it is the best salon. My experience was not the nicest for what I paid. I'm sure this salon is good, maybe I had the wrong stylist. read more

I started going to High Five after trying Mitchell's and a couple others closer to home. I was lucky enough to get Emerson. She gave me a great cut, but it was pricey so I wasn't sure if I would stay - well over a year later I am still crossing town for great cut, great conversation and a very comfortable and pleasant experience. She gives me a hand/arm massage after my wash so with that and the overall experience I feel pampered enough to justify the price. Besides, Emerson is simply adorable. She makes me feel like a cherished friend and I consider her a friend vs. just my hairdresser. Receptionists are always charming, they always offer you a beverage, they email your receipt. The salon itself is cozy and comfortable. The only problem with Emerson is that she is so sought after that you better book well in advance, especially around any holidays! I usually keep my bookings for 3 months in advance. read more

I had one of the best haircuts of my life here by Tyler! Not only was he super friendly and easy to talk to, but he had a profound knowledge of hair and what styles worked best for certain face shapes. He has a background in analytical geometry (!!) which adds a unique depth of understanding shapes and styles. I like when I can vaguely describe what I want and the hairstylist gets it, which he did. He was very thorough, but efficient. He also knows a lot about the products that they use, so if you are interested in purchasing products he definitely is the right person to talk to. Lastly, there had been a scheduling error made when I initially made the appointment and Tyler went above and beyond to rectify this problem which was super appreciated. I am picky about who cuts my hair, and I truly think Tyler is one of the best. Go to Tyler!! You won't regret it. read more

Jenny cuts my hair and finds a way for me to look great with almost no styling time! Even if I walk out the door with wet hair, it seems to work somehow. I can go a looong time between haircuts and it looks fine growing out too. I love talking with Jenny as she is so warm and friendly.
