Great salon. Brenna was very sweet and did a great job on my hair. I really appreciated her going the extra mile and curling my hair as well once my hair was blown out, since I normally curl my hair! A lot of places won't do that unless you schedule extra time so I leave with blown out hair, which is just fine, but it's nice to have my hair the same way that I normally style it so I have an accurate idea of the finished product. I am deducting one star and it has absolutely nothing to do with Brenna! It has to do with the front desk staff. They were just a little...cold? Stand offish? I cannot, cannot, CANNOT RAVE ENOUGH about my most recent experience with Paragon. Or, rather I guess I should say my daughter's experience. My daughter and I always go to Tina Marie for our hair cuts. However my daughter had requested special "birthday hair" months in advance for her 14th birthday party. Unfortunately Tina had to cancel last minute and I was scrambling for a back-up option since this was one of my daughter's birthday presents plus her crazy mane of hair is a BEAST for me to try and tame at-home with a task even as simple as flat-ironing or curling. Seriously, my kiddo has Beyoncé hair, it's crazy. Emily Stephenson has a chair close to Tina's and I have observed her in the past very effortlessly putting together elaborate hair-dos that looked great. Luckily she was able to fit me in the afternoon of my daughter's birthday party (during prom season, too). We didn't bring pictures of any hair ideas, I just told Emily that I trusted her skill set and please give my daughter "prom or bridesmaid hair." For nearly two hours, Emily curled, flat-ironed, spritzed, pinned, piled and twisted hair with studious precision. I got tired from just watching her work - she was as picky about the placement of the first bobby-pinned curl to the last. My daughter's hair looked AMAZING! She and I loved her hair so much that she wouldn't wash it for several days, even after volleyball practice. I emphatically recommend Emily S. for your special occasion hair needs! Great experience! I decided to make a huge change by cutting off 12 inches of my hair and donating it to Children with Hair Loss. I called the salon asking if they offer a free cut if you are donating your hair. The nice woman that answered said they did not but would ask the stylists if anyone was interested in donating their services. The amazing Emily stepped up and offered to chop this mop off! She did a spectacular job giving me an adorable Lob. Her technique was great! I am super happy with the results. I highly recommend this salon. All the staff was friendly. They use the best Moroccan Oil products. My hair felt like silk when I left. It is a little tricky to find for first timers walking in off the street so pay attention because you need to go up to the 2nd floor. HIGHLIGHT: The scalp neck massage while washing my hair. I was given this salon as a recommendation from a few people and after reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to go in for services. When I called I was quickly brought in with the wonderful Emily. Everyone in this salon was kind and nice and sweet. Emily was amazing. I have had several great hairstylists before but she was friendly, gave me great tips on where to go while visiting the area, and really put me at ease. I felt comfortable with giving her the task to try something new and exciting for a change and she really did an amazing job. The color was perfect, cut was great, and the supplies suggested were exactly what I needed. She was not pushy and was so helpful. First, if you haven't been here for a while or just think you know where this is, they moved about a year and a half ago, which I didn't realize until I was trying to find it today. There are no directions on the website or parking information, so here you go! It's now located on the ground floor of Carew Tower and if you park in the Mabley Garage, you can get discounted parking (no longer free, just 20% off). I had booked a hot stone massage using a gift certificate and when I arrived, I was taken back by the therapist to the locker room. They give you a robe and slippers to change into and a locker with a key for your stuff. It's a little weird though because it wasn't a private changing room. You could lock the door but all the lockers were in that one room so I didn't and just changed really fast! I guess if you're super shy, you could duck into the adjacent bathroom to change. They have a "relaxation room", but it wasn't offered to me either before or after my massage (just happened to see it when I was wandering around trying to find my way out unguided). The massage rooms are nice with heated tables, low lighting, music, etc. My massage therapist was Tina and she was a very pleasant person, but I quickly realized that her technique was not going to work for me. Her strokes were very quick, short and repetitive. She did ask about my pressure preference up front, but I had to ask at least four different times for less pressure. I felt like a piece of furniture being distressed or a particularly dirty piece of clothing being scrubbed on an ol' timey washboard. Walking out of a massage more sore than went you went in is never a good thing! It was the manager, Toni, who checked me out after and I answered honestly when she asked that I didn't really care for it and explained why. She said that Tina works on a lot of big, burly men and specializes in deep tissue/sports massage. She said I should ask for the other masseuse (Amy) the next time who uses more of the gentle, smooth, long strokes technique I prefer. So, if you go, make sure you request the *right* massage therapist for your preference! Really, if they are THAT different, they should try to match clients appropriately at booking! So, I give her my gift card that says "hot stone massage" and it turns out that the wrong amount was on the card for the cost of the service. She could have made the whole thing a bit less awkward since it obviously was an error on the part of her staff, not mine or the gift giver, but she did eventually accept it for the higher amount. For a "high end" salon and spa (that hot stone massage's full price is $135), they really need to up their game, at least on the spa side. read more

Once upon a time I ordered a drink at Senate in OTR and in a brief moment of bar hush, I was able to scream, "WHO CUTS YOUR HAIR?!" to the bartender. Being the classy gentleman that he was, he wrote three words on a napkin: Paragon. Tina Marie. I wouldn't dare get my hair cut by anyone else. Mostly because I'm scared of what TM might do to me. I kid. Tina Marie isn't just skilled with her tools and products, she listens, engages with you, and makes sure you're heard. And then, she takes what you want to do, and makes it actually work in the real world. She styles, sure, but three days later after riding my bike and sleeping and taking showers and such, my hair still looks good. And, she's taken the time to get to know how my hair grows (unevenly) and what to do to ensure I'm not coming back too often, or not enough. She's a real pro. I don't have a lot of experiences with salons at large, so it's hard to compare Paragon with others, or give a solid review, but I will say that it's clean, well-lit, friendly, and hospitable. I was in Cincinnati on business and found it extremely hard to find a salon in the downtown area, let alone a salon that would take me with short notice. I called Paragon and they would not take me same day so I called them the next day and they said they could take me in 5 minutes (impossible) or later that afternoon. So I made an appointment for the afternoon After getting my hair cut here, I didn't understand the lack of availability. The stylist I had was very fake and overcompensating, probably because she's not a good hairdresser. She was also sure to mention that I have the same amount of gray hair as her aunt. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have 10 gray hairs tops. I'm not even 30 years old yet. What kind of hairdresser points that out? I told her I wanted my hair blown straight and she nodded and started to flat iron it. If I wanted it flat ironed, I could have done it myself. The whole point of going to a salon is to leave with that bouncy commercial hair. I told her again that I'd like it blown out and she attempted at blow drying it. She failed. It was horrible and frizzy at the bottom and flat on top. So again, she picked up the flat iron and tried to straighten it. By this point I was annoyed and just wanted to get out of there so I let her finish "smoothing" the ends. I generally love the way my hair looks and feels when I leave the salon. My hair did not feel healthy or "just cut" and it looked a mess. I had to go home, re-wet it and flat iron it myself. I won't be going here again. read more

I'm a fan. Definitely. Amanda is amazing for hair. She has a winning personality and does a beautiful job whether it's just a trim or you're doing something drastic like getting full on bangs. I've recommended her to a friend who's already gone and loved her as well. The spa area is nice and relaxing. The spa pedicures are fantastic especially with Stacy. She really pays attention to detail and can work a great massage on your feet, legs and your hands. I've gone to her a couple of times and am always happy with how clean her work is and how long the manicure lasts. The pricing is fair for the environment and the quality and you get free parking in the Tower Place garage too. I adore this salon. I've been going to Paragon to get my hair done for almost 4 years. About 99% of the time I love how my hair turns out, and the pricing is reasonable for being an upper scale salon in Cincinnati. Nicole (my stylist) is friendly, personable, and really seems to know what she's talking about when it comes to my hair. She's also honest when I tell her I want to try something different and she doesn't think my hair type is right for it. I only have one complaint for the salon: the girls at the front desk barely crack a smile, and seem kind of pretentious, and it's not that kind of place when you get to the back at all. read more

I moved back to Cincinnati a little over a year ago after an 8 year stint working in Los Angeles,CA, and have not been able to find my go-to hairstylist yet. As a makeup artist,I meet tons of women on a regular basis, so if I like their hair, I ask where they get it done. Well most recently I was referred to Amanda at Paragon. So I of course called immediately to make an appointment, but also had several questions about exact services and results for my naturally curly hair. The girl on the phone was extraordinarily rude, didn't have any of the answers to my questions, and generally seemed put out that I wanted to know more about the services they offered. So I asked if Amanda could give me a call when she had a few minutes so we could actually decide what services I was going to come in for and when,since I knew what I wanted required more than one appointment. Phone girl flat out refuses to give Amanda my message or number so she can call me. She also refuses to quote me any rates. She tells me Amanda is booked solid for a week , therefore couldn't possibly call me, and finishes with "we don't do that here." You don't do what? Answer clients questions? Let your stylists know they have a potential new client that would love to speak with them? It was just too bad...I was looking forward to having her do my hair, but the front desk ruined it for her, as well as all of the referrals I could send them as a makeup artist that constantly works with brides and other women who only want the best. The only reason they get the extra star is because I have actually seen Amanda's work on a few ppl now, especially bridal parties that are staying at the Hilton next door, and it always looks great. read more

Leslie, the esthetician and massage therapist, was recommended to me for nail services. She did very precise Shellac manicure and relaxing pedicure. She is also a joy to talk to. Her sense of humor makes the service that much more enjoyable. I also sent my family in to get their nails done when they came to visit. They were just as impressed as I was. For a downtown salon, I was really impressed with how (relatively) affordable this place was. I dropped by and made an appointment on my lunch break and a couple of days later I returned with brand new hair extensions. Being completely new to hair extensions, my stylist was SO helpful. She let me know that they were a good color match and then gave me step by step instructions and suggestions in how to place the extensions. Then she snipped away, getting my extensions to just the right length for future use. She also had some clutch tips on extensions hair care and also ways to style my hair using them! My sister has had a great eyebrow wax here as well. Pricing is EXTREMELY reasonable, I can always get in within a few days of calling, and they give you a parking voucher so you don't have to pay the garage! What else could you ask for! I have also had hair extensions...twice. Vicki is a great lady to see for this service, I get tons of compliments, and the price is literally hundreds (yes, hundreds) of dollars less than anywhere else you could get real hair extensions. I went in for a shellac manicure, i waited 20 minutes (past my appointment time) which wasn't a big deal however my nails are mediocre at best and I didn't have the time to have them corrected. Amanda has been my stylist for the past year or so, she is absolutely awesome. Great girl, fun to talk and she specializes in red - which just happens to be my go to color! Whether its strawberry, auburn or anything in between she gets it right every time. She recently did my hair, very pretty reddish strawberry color - since it's the summertime I wanted a bit more blonde. She was so nice and offered to put blonde in for me on the house. The salon itself is clean and everyone I've ever talked to is always incredibly nice. My boyfriend also gets his hair cut regularly and loves his stylist. Overall, it's always a wonderful experience! We had booked Paragon as our Wedding Hair and makeup artists for two brides about 4 or 5 months before the wedding. We were going to have most of our Bridal parties hair done here as well. We decided on Paragon because our hair stylist worked here and recommended we book through the salon instead of directly with her. About two weeks before the wedding the coordinator calls and tells us that our stylist put in her notice and would be leaving 5 days before our wedding. At this point we had already talked styles and done some mock-ups with our stylist. We were quite disappointed. They did not offer us trials with our new stylists. We scheduled appointments with our new stylists and we were not thrilled by them. We accidentally found another option with another company and decided to go with them. When we called to cancel our appointments we were lectured about how it was stressful for our old stylist to be moving and I quote "but I guess your wedding is important too." I have been to 4 different salons in the Cincinnati area in the last 4 months. Today I took a chance at Paragon. My hair was highlighted as "california blonde" and had been dyed, highlighted and was a disgusting mess! One salon decided because my highlights were so close together they would do all over color and thats were the horrible problem started, it just continued through other salons not willing to take the time or listen to me. It looked so bad when I came in today they thought I had done it to myself. Unfortunately I had actually paid someone to look that bad! My hairstylist was Amanda. She not only took the time to listen to what happened but listened to what I wanted. She was very passionate and caring and I felt like I was in good hands. All of the girls consulted about what color they should use. Through out the process Amanda was very sympathetic and caring. I have VERY long and VERY thick hair and she ended up having to cross out her book for me for the rest of the day. Not only did she do that but she stayed 30 minutes past closing to make sure that I left happy. ( I had expressed that I have left many upscale salons in cincinnati with my hair wet because no one wants to take the time to dry it) Not only was it perfect but I left with it dried and styled. I did not have to worry about going home to "fix" my hair after paying hundreds of dollars before I went out in public. I understood coming in that it will be a work in process but I cant imagine how much better its going to look. Amanda deserves a special praise for not only her hairstylist skills but her people skills as well. I was noticeably upset when I came in and then entire procedure was completely uplifting. They say doctors need good bedside manner but hairstylists as well need good chair manner. Amanda was way beyond what I expected and I couldn't be more satisfied. My friends were anxious to see how this visit would turn out. The first one I called said she did not need to even ask how it went because she could tell in my voice I was MUCH happier! I also sent a picture out and got back comments that said not only does it look great but you finally look happy again! I am getting married in July 2012 so to have the comfort that I will be able to walk down the aisle with normal hair means the world to me. I did a 4 hour deluxe spa day here. The nail tech made fun of my cuticles. I was left waiting for a long time even though I had an appointment.The massage was great except the room was not a comfortable temperature. Great view of downtown while you get your hair cut. The staff was not as warm and friendly as you would want for a relaxing day. Parking garages near this area are dirty. This is a snooty place for snooty people and isn't worth it for me. read more
