After leaving Hsi Lai Temple, I made a quick pit stop over here for the macarons. I was here four years ago when I had first learned about Puffect Bakery Café from JustKiddingFilms. Both the regular macarons and character macarons were pretty decent the first time I was here. I was hoping that maybe four years later, the macarons might have gotten better. Sadly, it didn't, especially, the Penguin one. I got three macarons ($2 each): Two regular ones: Earl Grey and Horchata and one character macaron: Penguin in vanilla flavor. The Early Grey and Horchata were both good. The shells were soft and stayed intact when bitten into. You can slightly taste the flavors of the Earl Grey and Horchata. Though, I wished the flavors were a bit stronger and creamier. However, the Penguin tasted awful! It looked cute, but when I bit into it, it was still hella frozen in the middle! Furthermore, the shell shattered all over after the first bite and it looked hollow inside. I ended up throwing away the rest of the Penguin for a fear of possible chipping my front tooth. So bad! Drink: The $2.89 Iced Jasmine Green Tea was delicious and refreshing with 50% sweetness. I will say, the drinks here tasted better than the macarons. Service: The gal behind the counter was sweet and nice. Overall, it saddens me to reduce this down to another star. Is it worth the return? For a grand total of $14 (plus taxes and tip) spent on three macarons and a drink, nope. I'll stick with Laduree, 'Lette and Concerto (Koreatown) instead. read more

Their macaron is very pretty! Lots of flavors to choose from. The animal ones are even cuter! The ladies in the shop are very friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of parking space in front of the store. You can call to place order and pay over the phone. They will have your order ready for pick up at the time you wish. We bought 2 dozens of regular macarons and 1 dozen of animal macarons. They are packages very nicely! The shop has other sweets to choose from, like cupcakes and egg waffles. This review is for their SPECIAL EVENTS :) Puffect Bakery did the dessert table for my friend's wedding recently and everything was so delicious. Dare I say... these cookies over shadowed the poor cake! Cherie and Jon came 2 hours early to the event in Temecula and they were so prepared!! They had the cutest custom labels to each item and they matched my friend's theme very well. They even had covers for these delicious pastries to protect them from all the wind and falling leaves before the guests arrived. I am so shameless to admit this, but I was able to eat at least one of everything... I'm glad it was a small wedding!! There were snicker doodles, chocolate chip cookies, brown butter sugar cookies, double chocolate crackle cookies, apricot shortbread, oatmeal cranberry cookies, crowns, peanut butter cookies, white chocolate macadamia nut and panna cotta. The sign for the table said, "We got together like Milk & Cookies" so the panna cotta was a delicious touch to look like the milk alongside all of these tasty cookies. I was thoroughly impressed because the cookies remained soft and delicious even after hours of exposure to air. The butter content is on point!! I only know this because... This is such an adorable place so I really wanted to like their cupcakes but can't say that was the case. The cupcakes we got were pretty small for the price, and kind of dry. The buttercream topping also left an oily after taste for me. I would recommend you get your cupcakes elsewhere. read more

Lots of cupcakes and other goodies were on display, which was quite enticing. Macarons: 4/5! Not Bottega Louie quality, but decent enough. Bought a box of 18, macarons were $2.00/ea. There were unique flavors such as taro, strawberry cheesecake, green tea, Thai tea, and many more...there were 18 different flavors available when I went to visit on a weekday early evening. The shell was slightly crunchy, and the inside of the macarons were chewy, just like they were supposed to be. You can clearly taste the flavors of the macarons, especially the Thai tea ones. Buttercream wasn't overtly sweet, which is how I like my macarons. Service: The macarons were a saving grace, but unfortunately not so much service. The young lady who handed me my macarons could've been a bit more friendlier and welcoming. I got a samoa cupcake here and it was really good. The buttercream was really good and not overly sweet. The cupcake was fluffy and moist, really good quality. Overall the flavor combo was nice but probably tasted a little more like an almond joy or something. So cozy and warm inside; not to mention the enticing aroma of freshly baked goods. Great place to grab a treat and some tea. The green tea with added sweetener had a nice floral kick and the sweetener really brought it to life. I also ordered an iced lychee/peach green tea. It was alright. I didn't enjoy the fruit pieces at the bottom. The puffy cup was rich in flavor. The puff pastry/waffle was surprisingly light and sprinkled with the perfect amount of cinnamon. I came here for the cute lil character macaroons. Yes they're adorable, but they're expensive. Service was OK too, they weren't as upbeat as I thought they would be. I asked them about character macaroons and the lady at the front ran through real quick a bunch of characters. I didn't even have time to think. I had her show me pictures because they weren't on display and if I were to pay over $4 for a macaroon, I'd better make sure it looked decent. Since I came all this way, I ended up getting 4 character macaroons ($4.25 each), total $17.00 and they wouldn't give me a box. I had to purchase 6 in order to get a box!!! I mean if I were to spend $25 I should get it in a tin can with a ribbon!! Well, my 4 came in a square clear plastic bag. Ordered a banana loaf bread and a zuchini loaf for the school fundraising. Since there were not many choices for the fundraising, we tried these two loafs. The zuchini bread was good. It wasnt too sweet and it was soft, but kindda bland. The banana loaf... NOT recommended. It was not good at all. There is no banana taste whatsoever and it was burnt on the bottom. And both were very very very dry when we heat them up the next day, even though we wrapped them tightly. I wouldn't go back if not for fundraising activities. read more

I've been eyeing this place for months prior to their grand opening. Every time I drove my daughter to her piano lesson, I would see the "Opening Soon" sign in front of their retail space. They finally opened with a bang on the same weekend as the 5.1 earthquake. I've been there a handful of time since they opened. Service has been good. It seems to be run by a nice young guy. I have had the privilege of speaking to the guy and to find out about his business. The employees there are well trained and are willing to help. I have had their macaroons and their HK Style Egg Waffle. We have tried different flavors, but, every time we have tried it, my wife, daughter and I thought that the macaroons were too sweet. The HK Style Egg Waffle seems to be their specialty. The do a good job in making these waffles. Then again, I have never had a bad HK Style Egg Waffle. But, my problem is that I just can't envision myself going in there just to get the HK Style Egg Waffle. To me, these waffles are things that you get a night market, or in a restaurant with noodles. Recently went to check out Puffect Bakery & Cafe last weekend. From looking at the outside of the shop, I would have never guessed it looks the way it does inside. Modern layout with a few tables on the right of the shop with small chandeliers hanging above. This should teach me not to judge a book by its cover ;) I bought 2 character and 2 regular macrons as gifts so I didn't get a chance to try them myself. I don't know if I could have even gotten myself to eat one.. they're too cute! Ask a staff member which characters they have for the day (it varies.. they have a piece of paper with them written out) before you set your heart on one they didn't make! The oolong tea with bits of strawberry and lychee was VERY refreshing. The tea was moderately strong and not too sweet. John, who assisted us was friendly and inviting. Someone bought me a box of macarons and four characters from here since I really love macarons and cute food themes! I definitely appreciated the work she did to give them to me! Heart! Unfortunately for Puffect though, I've been to a lot of macarons places and places that make cute macarons and I must say this bakery falls a bit short. M A C A R O N S [-1] Luckily I did get them for free, but after looking at the prices it seems as if they're $2-3 each. There's no justifying that price for their macarons unfortunately. She gave them to me the same day she brought them (so they were freshly made) and the flavors were too light/similar but I could tell what some of them were. In addition, the shells were all hollow, and some of them were inconsistent. Some were soft and some were hard. [-2] They also don't keep very well. Other macarons like Bottega / Lette / Laduree, the macarons can stay for a week and you can enjoy one or two a day. Puffect macarons were extremely rock hard the next day. I was a bit confused and sad... They've been open since 2014 so I figure their recipe should be great by now. If they improved their macaron tastes I think their macarons would be more successful. Came by here last Saturday with my husband. The only reason why we came was because of seeing that this was one of the new businesses that just recently opened on yelp's website (love finding new places to try). I am a big fan of macarons and was planning on purchasing some to try. Anyways, this place is located in a plaza, right next to Waba Grill with plenty of parking. When we came in (sometime after 8 pm) we were greeted immediately by some of the employees. This place has 5 booth tables and 1 table all by itself near the entrance of the place. The decor is very cute with it's chandeliers and purple walls. After looking at the menu and in the display case, I decided to get 1 of every macaron flavor ($2 each: pink velvet, nutella, samos, cookie butter, Thai tea, sesame, lychee, coffee, mango, lemon, green tea, taro, blueberry cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, red bean). I also ordered the black sesame egg puff ($4, prior to tax). My husband and I liked the egg puff, it was actually made right because it was not dry and you could actually taste the light taste of black sesame, which I am a fan of. I have had an egg puff waffle at another Chinese coffee shop in the SGV and was very disappointed with it because it quite dry. The macarons I had (I tried about 75% of the ones I bought) were good or just average. Just a few to highlight: the nutella was disappointing as it was not very flavorful (I think Nutella is just better by itself out of the jar than as a baked treat or in ice cream form), I liked the blueberry cheesecake as it is unique & red bean was the most memorable for me because I liked the filling as it had actual pieces of red bean in it. I think the flavor variety is a pretty good mix to pick from, but I was rather disappointed by the inconsistent size of them all. Some of my macarons were MUCH smaller than some other macarons, but yet are still quite pricey at $2 a piece. My husband and I were rather disappointed with the limited menu. There is not coffee choices, as they only serve tea (iced or hot). They also do sell paninis in case you want to grab a sandwich for lunch or something. I was disappointed that there were no baked breads to purchase, as you would expect from a typical bakery. But they do sell cupcakes, but I wasn't jonesing to have one and they just looked pretty standard (so it didn't jump out at me to get one). Although the employees seemed pretty friendly, I just thought it was kind of strange to see some of them just sitting around, texting on their phone/ surfing the internet (yes they have free wifi here) and such. The name says it all this place is that or if better!! Came in on a weekday to go and get some of these really cute macaroons. A pack of six characters 18.00 bucks but they are totally worth it!! I don't know what it is maybe I'm still just a kid at heart but it makes me smile a lot to be able to buy stuff like this as gifts for people. It makes them happy and it makes me happy! A new bakery in the Walnut area that sells macarons so we definitely had to check it out! It's located on the corner of Valley/Lemon behind the Starbucks/Tea Station plaza. The place is quite tiny but a simply modern decor. They had a small selection of cupcakes, macarons and for those looking for real food some panini sandwiches and selection of smoothies and teas. Yes they also have the HK egg puffs with a variety of flavors for those looking for that too. But onto the reason why we came in the first place macarons! We got a box of 6 to sample, although there is no discount for buying 6 or even 12. They're still $2 each, bummer! The packaging kinda reminds me of Simple Sweets in Brea. The size of the macarons are slightly smaller though at about 1.25in each. How do they taste you must be wondering? Overall they aren't as sweet as alot of other places like Simple Sweet, Lette or even Bottega Louie. The problem with these macarons however is the flavors are not well pronounced as the ones mentioned above. Every bite you almost have to wait for the after taste to even get a hint of what you just ate. Yes they are baked to a perfect crispy/chewy consistency that you'd expect from a macaron, it's just the filling that's slightly disappointing. Thank You Cherrie for fulfilling my order in such a short time frame and for accommodating my requests!! I ordered: 2 dozen frosting dipped pretzel rods, 36 custom cupcakes, a 6 inch custom cake, 36 custom white choc covered cookies, & 48 macarons. Everything turned out nice and tasted good overall, but many of my guests did indicate that the macaroons were too sweet and that the texture was too dry (nutella flavored). Cherrie also rents out platters for your event if you need them; ranging from $7 to $12 per dish platter. The total cost for my order was about $575 and an additional $39 to rent 4 platters: A cake stand, two separate matching tier trays, and a small silver platter. I've been dying to try this place ever since I saw the character macarons and I finally got the chance to since I was down in Diamond Bar! The interior is really cute and simple. When I walked in, I was welcomed with the sight of cupcakes. If I hadn't had the intention of getting macarons, I'd totally buy the cupcakes in a heartbeat. The girl who helped me was really nice. She told me about how the prices worked with the macarons and also showed me a list of their character macarons, making sure to let me know that it was $3. In the end, I opted for five of the character ones and seven of the more basic ones (which are $2). In the end, my total came out to be $29. The macarons were really good! The shell was really crunchy and I didn't find it to be too sweet at all. In fact, I found it to be just right. It's much different from the ones I've had before! This place is SO cute! I stumbled across it while looking for dessert on Yelp and was not disappointed. They have a wide variety of macarons for a fairly affordable price. The salted caramel was my favorite! However, I was pretty disappointed with their cupcakes. They tasted like normal box mix cupcakes. I got the chocolate and it honestly was not worth the price. Stick to the macarons and you won't be disappointed. Also, they package all of there desserts in a cute pink box and little pink gift bag. Treats from here would be a perfect last minute gift. I will say that the store seems to be doing a lot of things at once. I saw everything from preserved floral arrangements to custom signs for sale in there. While they should definitely advertise all of this, it might be wise to tidy up the front area as customers will be walking in and noticing a bit of a mess. read more

However, I came back tonight bc I was craving macarons and this was the only place in my vicinity... and I definitely didn't regret it! My husband purchased cupcakes from here and it wasn't great. Out of the four flavor purchased the s'mores was probably the best one but only because the other flavors weren't so great. The cupcakes were pricey for the quality and size. I had my doubts when I opened the box and the cupcakes are in the same cupcake liners I buy at Albertsons to bake my own cupcakes at home. Overall the flavors for all the cupcakes were very one note and also had a dryness that mimics the box mix. The frosting was ok and saved the cupcakes from being thrown away. My daughter picked a macaroon shaped like a penguin and it looked old but regardless cute and tasted ok. Honestly would never purchase a cupcake from here again but may consider the cute macaroons for a birthday dessert table. read more

I went there to get the garlic bread. But you have to preorder it on weekends. So be warned cause I don't think they tell you on their website. A little over price but it's a bakery they are all are. Their cupcakes are good and moist. The macaroon are tasty and so many flavors to choose from. read more

I have come to this place before and it never lets me down when I'm looking for a dessert or if I need a custom made treat for any get together I have at my place. Here is my thoughts: DESSERT The desserts are great. I really enjoy ordering the egg puff and the macarons. Of course, you need to have that with the ice tea that they have. Have tried the cupcake and also enjoyed that. SERVICE The team is always friendly and always customizes and understands your need. Lately I have been ordering a lot of custom made desserts such as cake and customize macarons for birthday parties. This is my to go place since they are always accommodating and giving recommendations. DECOR/ AMBIANCE A perfect chill and relax place to come with friends and enjoy a nice treat. It is very quiet if you need a quick study break or a place that is quiet but with some life outside of the library. OVERALL Great small independent dessert shop with delicious treat.
