I moved in and then moved out the same day within about 30 minutes. I was never able to contact the office staff to ask questions or get any additional information. When they finally called back and I told them why I was cancelling, the person who called me had a serious attitude problem and hung up without even saying goodbye or anything similar. Unlike other Public Storage locations I have used in the past, they use a cheap and easy to break ,cylinder style locking system which is why I cancelled. It then took two weeks to process my refund, which was short as I had left the lock in the unit, which I was forced to purchase from them, since I rented online because I couldn't get in touch with the office staff. Bottom line up front: Do not trust this company to provide fair or equitable treatment to customers. Location: Stafford, Va. Initially a great experience, the right size space, the ease of access, and a reasonable rental rate. However, the reasonable rate changed after the 3rd month (with less than 30 day notice as required per contract), and it jumped considerably. An immediate call to public storage customer service basically ended with tough luck & take your business elsewhere if you don't like it. This experience demonstrated the company's underhanded marketing and drive to swindle their customers. What's worse is that I could rent another same size space at the same location for less than my original cost, but I'd have to switch units. Does that even make sense? Since public storage was operating in bad faith, I took my business a quarter mile down the road to a competitor, and saved $40 over public storage's rent and got an additional 15 sqft of space. Still had to move the contents to the new place, which is probably what public storage is banking on. That you'd rather pay more than move your stored goods to a new location. I highly recommend any who read this comment to consider other options than doing business with public storage and their poor business practices. Clearly, public storage didn't care about their customer service or whether they lose customers as long as they can continue to lure in new ones. read more

This review is for RV'ers and may help others. I have stored at the 521 Garrisonville location for almost a year and I am very unimpressed with the organization as a whole. Just a few things that caused my rating of 1: When you first sign on, you will probably get a great deal but they don't tell you that every 3 to 4 months they will increase the monthly amount by at least $80 to $90. The gate is open most days where anyone can enter the property and do whatever. There are areas of the property that can easily be access without having to enter the front gate. Also, not my business, but there was one individual that was living in one of the outside storage unit and for a week or so had a ton of stuff almost blocking the right of way for vehicles. It gave the parking area the feeling of being in a bus station (very unprofessional that nothing appeared to be said or done about it). When I decided to move to another storage, I had paid for the entire month but only a few days had past. When asked for a pro-rated refund of my newly increased monthly fee, I was told that the company does not give refunds. Don't get me wrong. A couple of the employees that I dealt with were nice, but I would not recommend this storage company to anyone unless you are renting one of the indoors units. read more

Probably fine if you're staying under 6 months...but at six months expect to be spending a LOT more per month on your unit than you'd budgeted.. We ran into this problem at Extra Space Storage in Stafford, and moved here because we were promised that that wouldn't be the case here. What a lie. Just got notice today that my storage rental is going up $40/month starting next month. Exactly six months into the rental. What a bait-and-switch. Dishonest group. If I had known this was going to happen Id at least have stayed at Extra Space, at least their units are cleaner and more well lit. read more

Overpriced. Fee went up to $244.00 a month for a 10x14 which is more than the largest unit they have. Leaving to go somewhere else that would be a larger unit for $100.00 less a month. read more

Moved in on Sunday, but I'm still not sure where the hand trucks or bathroom is located. Are the use of these being minimized due to Covid? The unit was clean, but there is a large cosmetic ceiling issue with my unit - basically a bunch of insulation falling down which looks like an attempt has been made to repair/tack back up with painters tape. Natalie was such a sweet person. She was diligent in finding our key for us. The other employee was supposed to put our spare key in our file and didn't. We drove about 45 minutes to get to our storage unit, to discover that we forgot our keys. We were truly thankful that Natalie is a person that has integrity and good working skills. First, I'll start with the good. It's a clean facility, however the bad outweighs the good. My husband and I had moved some of our stuff into one of their climate controlled units thinking our stuff would not get ruined. The next day my husband returned to move more items in and the whole bottom of the unit had flooded. They moved us to a different unit, however all of our stuff we not moved in one day, the staff were supposed to put a temp lock on it until the next day. We returned to the unit to move out stuff and the staff had mistakenly thought the unit had been abandoned and threw our things away. Some furniture, but mostly irreplacable items, like baby items and photos of a lost child. We've contacted the DM, but have yet come to a resolution. read more

This place is the WORST!!! My car was in there facility for almost 4 months when I was overseas. The day before going to get my car out of storage my tires where stolen. Upon arrival to the facility the gate was broken and had been broken for almost 4 days so there was no accountability on who went in and out. After watching the video security cameras only ONE camera actually worked so there was no way to tell any information to the police. The DM Sam told me that it was nothing he could do because I should of had insurance but I explained to him that the gate has been broken for 4 days now. Fast forward: Went back to get my car a week later and the gate is still broken. I had a tire place come and put tires on my car to get it to their shop and they went right through the gate put the tires on. They could of left with my car. They went to the front office and got my phone number from the staff. Who gives a customers phone number out without asking questions? I would never rent from this place again and I would recommend you do the same. read more

Great staff and easy renting a unit.

Ever since Public Storage purchased this facility from Storage 2000 its been nothing but a money pit. The 1st year they took over they raised the rates even though Storage 2000 had raised them the previous year. Then every other year thereafter the rates rose 20 dollars plus insurance. Within 6 short years, I went from having one 10X20 unit at $175.00 to $400.00. What a way to price yourself out of customers. I've been here a few years. It used to be something else. It is better than the last company, except you are required to buy their insurance. That isn't a totally bad thing though and certainly not a deal breaker. Johnnye is the gal I always see in the office. She is very nice, helpful, and efficient. Received less than 30 day notice that my rental rate would increase by 19%! This is completely unacceptable! What, in their overhead, would justify such a huge increase?? I think people who have had their items in storage, should be grandfathered in, and new renters should be charged the current rate. My stored items are not in climate controlled or in an interior access. read more

I have been a customer since before the change from Storage 2000 to Public Storage. I have an outdoor vehicle storage space. Since the change to Public Storage, there have been 2 rate increases and much less security. I saw an earlier review that stated there were plenty of security cameras. Well, there were when it was Storage 2000. But Public Storage has removed ALL of the cameras that use to be mounted on the corners of the storage units. If you have a vehicle space THERE IS NO CAMERA COVERAGE!!! I brought this up to a regional manager and his response was that unless my vehicle was damaged, the place must be secure, right? WRONG!!!! I even showed pictures that I took of empty (and full) beer cans and foot prints in the snow around most of the vehicles in the area as proof that people that don't belong there are walking around unchecked. His response was that his staff patrol the lot regularly. It's Interesting that their "patrols" did not discover the person that was drinking beer and wandering around the vehicles. He asked if I had any damage, and I said that I did not, but I could not speak for others parked there. He rudely said that if I had no damage then there was no issue. REALLY?!?!?!?!?! I was really hoping that the new storage lot being built next to the new Sheetz would have vehicle spaces so I could leave Public Storage, but sadly they said they will not have those spaces. I guess I'm stuck for now, but I highly recommend you go someplace else for your storage needs if you value security, because they don't. read more
