My previous storage company was bought out by Public Storage and the management worked hard to make the transition as easy as possible for the existing customers In addition, due to change in my storage needs and added space needed for family members, we needed to switch units and add additional space. Not only did they make this unit switch simple, I was able to end up paying less for even more space than we had before. The facility is well maintained with secure access and I recommend it to Abbott needing its effective storage in the Fredericksburg area. read more

The manager of Public Storage on Business Drive in Fredericksburg, Virginia, broke my lock after I was late on a payment that is due on the first, even though I paid a few weeks later. As a result, I lost access to my unit, while she had full access because she broke my lock. When I regained access the following month, around 20 boxes were stolen. Most of my boxes had been opened, and many of my breakable items were thrown all over the floor. I reported this, but she kept quiet and did nothing. Another time, I had to call 911 and reported her to the BBB because she refused to allow me to pay by credit card and was making sure I could not pay so she could take over my unit. I had to call the police to stop her. It felt like highway robbery. I reported her, but she is still there, and the higher office did not take any action. She breaks locks so customers lose access while she gains full access to their belongings. She lives in the facility and is there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. read more

This place is a rip off when it comes to your bill. They start you off on a low rate and then it sky rockets very quickly. I searched around and they were the best price within 100 miles. Easy to rent, helpful staff, and very nice and clean unit. The facility is off the beaten path, and with DC traffic that meant a lot more time to get there and back (from Prince George's County Maryland), so we were only there a few months before we got tired of sitting in highway construction traffic. Otherwise, we'd have stored here for years. Closing the unit was as easy and renting it - very nice, personable staff who helped us each step of the way. If I lived near Fredericksburg, VA or Stafford, this would be my first choice for my storage needs. read more

I had very little interaction with staff, because this was an online rental. Via phone call however, the manager was great. This location is a little further south then I was intending to rent since Public Storage had limited availability for the size I needed; however the value was there, and it was clean. On Sept. 22, reserved a storage unit online for rental beginning Sept. 30. Just learned that Public Storage billed me for the rental beginning Sept. 22...even though the contract clearly shows rental date as the 30th. Submitted a question using the app to request an explanation...but despite the app saying I'd hear back within 12 hours, never got a response, even after nearly 2 days. Called the property manager. She couldn't help and referred me to corporate. called that number...spent a half hour on hold, then spoke with a customer service rep who basically gave me the complete run around for another half hour. Horrible customer service experience all the way around. A complete waste of time and energy. Not nearly what I anticipated from Public Storage. Very disappointed to say the least. read more

storage unit size I wanted was not avail, so I went up one size to a 5x10. only a few dollars more. What I was disappointed in, were the surprises, like 19.99 for the key, 11.00 for insurance, even though I have dwelling insurance in my home, that covers short term storage units, etc. There was also a 24.00 admin fee, one time only, I can accept, that hidden cost. The code to the gate, is a long digit code, almost impossible to remember, so have to carry the code with me. I set up the rental on-line, so there was a discount, I printed the papers showing 41.00, but when all said and done, 89.00. I think these initial costs should be made more clear, instead of when you walk in. read more

So far, so great! I initially set up an appointment for later in the week. Plans ended up changing so I had to reschedule my appointment but the management at Public Storage was incredibly accommodating! I even ended up arriving about an hour early for my appointment and still they were able to assist me! Shauntell was the associate who helped me at that location, and she was the epitome of perfect customer service! Everything was explained to me clearly throughout the process so really I had no questions at all. Another customer came in to pay rent during my visit and you could tell that she does extremely well with the other clients, almost as if they've been longtime friends, which I'm sure ensures continued business. Horrible experience!!! This is the first review I have ever done their customer service is that bad. Reps at the facility were only rude once out of the 5-6 times I spoke to them the negative experience is their policy. I thought I was going to take advantage of their half off special, that was a joke you have to buy their lock and get their insurance. I have rented many unit and never paid for their lock and insurance. I received 5 calls that my payment was late more than 2 weeks before it was due. This part is my fault, I got the dates wrong and tried to move out 2 days later than I should have. So I have to pay $100 + Their are also several people walking the lots of the hotels next to the facility. I will not be back and will recommend to everyone to avoid this place. read more

UNBELIEVEABLE! I just received a "postcard" in the mail informing me that my monthly rent is increasing by $10.00. This company advertised an online move-in special back in September of 2015. The price for a large, 10' x 15' storage unit was very low so we jumped on it. At the time we were renting from this same location a much smaller unit because of the low price so we were looking to save money, yet be able to increase the space. We signed the contract back in September and paid all of the new move-in fees and charges and took a weekend to move our stuff from the smaller unit to the larger one. NOW, six months later they inform us of this outrageous price increase. So, I called their main office center and spoke with a representative. She informed me that it clearly states in our contract that they can increase the rent anywhere from six months to a year from the signing date. She also beat me to the punch and said that at this time the company is not negotiating any price increases. So, in other words, "Go pound sand, pal." This is exactly the reason we moved from Smart Stop Storage to Public Storage in the first place. This bait and switch crap should be illegal. The customer representative also took the time to let me know that, even with the price increase we are still paying under the market rate for this area. Really? That's supposed to make me feel better? Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)! Update: After I posted the above review I received a phone call from David at the Public Storage Corporate office. He asked me if I would consider taking down my bad review if he would revert my monthly charge back to the original amount. I made sure that he meant that the charge would be applied as of the May payment and would continue forward from that point. I agreed and took down the bad review. Well, he only applied the original amount to the May payment, but then my account went back to the increased amount for June. So, here's the bad review...AGAIN! Nice try, Public Storage/David, but you went back on your word so I'm going back on mine. Stay away from this company at all cost. read more

In the process of de-cluttering my house to put up for sale and needed a storage unit. Called around and priced out online and Public Storage was the cheapest. Arrived to be greeted by a very friendly staff in Keisha and Ever. They were both very personable and made me feel comfortable to use their business. Not sure how long im going to need the unit but I know im in good hands. The only thing that caught me off guard is you have to use their locks. Bringing your own padlock does no justice. The price of their lock is like $20! I am still giving 5 stars because of the service. read more

The staff here is fine, but the facility is awful and is not secure. I can't wait to move our belongings out of storage. Do not store at this facility! When we moved in, all seemed fine; then the exit gate broke, and is still not fixed months later. Now, exit gates are chained closed, and the front entrance gate is not working. We've contacted district manager, and he was unconcerned and also refused to reduce our rate due to the lack of security. To reserve initially, I called Public Storage's 800 number, and was told I'd get a promotional rate on a good unit. I arrived with our movers to find the unit is in a corner so wouldn't work with our furniture. I was then forced to pay for a more expensive unit. Avoid Public Storage in Fredericksburg! read more

I am in the process of moving and preparing my house for sale with new carpet and paint.. I chose public storage because of their convenient location. As an added bonus, Ever and Keshia are absolutely wonderful to do business with. I made the reservation online and was very pleased with the exceptional level of customer service I received over the phone and in person. They were helpful and very attentive to my storage needs. They even went the extra step to follow up with a phone call to ensure that my move into the unit went well and that it meets my needs. Its great to know that wonderful customer service still exists! Had two units there and they auctioned off one with heirlooms for my children from their deceased mother. No phone calls, no emails, no letters. I set up auto pay in their shitty office for both units but oddly only one worked and the other didn't. Paid twice as much monthly for the larger unit but somehow they thought I was welching on the smaller one? They said they tried to get a hold of me but obviously they didn't try too hard. No one had the presence of mind to see that I had another unit there and tried to run me down that way or just copy the correct auto pay information from the account that had the correct information. They said they don't send out letters, corporate does but it's obvious they don't call either. Once again, if they had the elementary critical thinking skills required, they could have seen the other account with the correct information and made contact that way. These people are underwritted and overwhelmed at the task they are there to perform. If you have anything of value there or anything that's invaluable, get it out now. If you're contemplating putting those types of articles in there you should really re-think that and either go somewhere else or better get yourself a shed. Unbelievable!!!
