This has been one of the worst rental experiences I've ever had, and I would strongly advise others to avoid this company. The property management is completely disorganized and nearly impossible to get in touch with. Despite what their website says, staff are rarely onsite during posted business hours, and phone calls go unanswered. Their billing and customer service are just as bad. I was double-charged and then told the extra payment would be credited to my account--yet the credit never appeared. Instead, I was hit with a late fee the following month. Even after I was assured the fee would be waived, they locked me out of my unit and later claimed the waiver had been "rejected." It's painfully clear that their priority is money, not customer service. When I came to the office at 10am--during their listed business hours--no one was there. The entire experience was incredibly frustrating and felt like a scam in the end. I will absolutely not be renting from them again. read more

Renting a space from them online is terrible. I made it thru a few screens and then received a message that it could not process my application at this time but to "try again sometime". I then called the number on the page. The result of this is I was continually transferred to another person in another department. After talking to the fourth person, and they could not sign me up, I gave up. I wasted an hour. I had a much more pleasant experience with iStorage. read more

We have used the facility as our holding pen during a massive home remodel and then a wedding. So we have moved in and out many times over the past two years. The people here have been wonderful. Chris, in particular this past time, with fast turn around needed. They are there to answer the questions you do not have time to ask a call center. We would use them again. read more

Access doors have been out of order for weeks. Site does not have added security while they repair the issue. Doors are open and unsecured. You can drive in and walk through the entire facility without seeing anyone and without any keys or codes. Along with the open/unsecure doors. They have also been using the one way drive into the garage for entering and exiting from very busy Skokie Blvd. I informed them its extreme dangerous to do so with the low visibility of that entrance. They also have no signage that they are now using it as a two way drive. (even though only a single vehicle fits through.) I was told by the manager that they have cameras to monitor the facility. I asked them to point out where the camera(s) were placed/located and I was told that she cannot point out a camera because the cameras are hidden in secret locations. I tried to discuss the issue with the only person there. The attendant was on a personal call on speaker phone. I informed her that I can wait while she finished with her conversation, but she insisted that I can go ahead and address her WHILE the person on speaker continued to also talk. She eventually told to person on speaker, "Shut up, I'm not talking to you...". Their phone have also not worked for weeks. When you try calling it goes nowhere. When you call their corporate number, they still funnel you to the store or store manager and call dies again. Public Storage policy restricts emails from the public and they do not provide emails for managers or district managers. So if you want to document issues you need to record calls, as there will be nothing in writing. Getting a hold of anyone that can solve these issue takes weeks. This place is in complete disrepair. They do not seem to care about their customers and/or the facilities. **UPDATE: Doors and pin-pads were repaired two days after this review was posted. read more

I highly recommend this public storage place. I had to quickly move from a 1 bedroom, very quickly.. this was very near the yellow line (easy access from the city to Skokie). Hana is very professional in her ways with all customers. I never had ANY issues when I was there. Clean! Well kept area for loading and unloading. Switch & Bait. My rate went up over 50% in less than 6 months. I even asked them if the rates go up when I first secured a unit. They said possibly "marginally" at the beginning of the year if taxes change, etc... 50% is not marginally! The customer service is horrible. You call and they need the last 4 digits of your driver's license or they won't talk to you. Furthermore, you give them the last four digits and they claim it isn't correct, there needs to be a letter. SORRY, no letter at the end of Illinois Driver's licenses so they hang up on you. Their website credit card processing sucks: My credit card keeps getting kicked out and I input it again, it goes through, I set my account on auto and then it gets kicked out again. Keep getting late fees which is frustrating every month. Something is wrong with their website payment center. The building is clean and new but that is the only up side. They only have 3 flat beds to move items to and from your unit. If the entrance/exit doors break or jam they are left open like that for months - basically no security. Furthermore, they end up taking all the flat beds in their office and locking them up around 4-5pm so you can't move anything even though the storage facility is still open. Don't believe the reviews on Google - all fakes. LOL = 4.8 positive reviews. read more

I can't believe what this place did! We reserved a unit in early November for early December. We received confirmation of pricing, and a scheduled time to arrive and sign paperwork. We arrived on time on the date of move-in, and were told that no units were available. She also said when a unit did come available, she wouldn't honor the price to which we'd agreed when the reservation was made. She didn't offer me an option, and refused to accept responsibility for giving away my reserved unit to someone else. What if I'd had a truck full of things to store, and nowhere to put it? This is a terrible way to treat customers. read more

Ever since this mysterious establishment opened I've done business with them. They used to be a 4 star location but now I'd have to take it down to them being a 3. At one time their service was so bad and they chained up all of their carts (which there were NOT a lot of to begin with) and if I were reviewing it during that time (prior to last year) I would have gone so far as to throw the 2 star marker on there and give it a 2.5. The prices have skyrocketed since they first opened and the service has plummeted. However, once in a while you'll find an A-Ok employee working at the front desk. They've got a big surveillance system set up, the lights are motion sensitive, and it smells like...storage? Something in between a warehouse, dust, and magic. Lets put it this way: If you were to blindfold me and stick me in a room with the smell of this Public Storage I would be able to tell you exactly where we were. They have fire extinguishers all over (just in case) and one thing I don't particularly like is that on top of your unit it isn't fully closed, just caged. That's nice if there's a fire and all and the water units need to spray into the units to put it out, however. That's also a con if you have things that aren't well sealed in there, they can be destroyed. Also, dust falls all over your things as if you had a plaster like old ceiling and your upstairs neighbor was a 400 pound man who liked to jump rope once a week. They provide locks and packing materials there, though I tend to believe in buying your own locks to lock up your things. They have small to really large units almost the size of a garage but it'd be a really tight squeeze to get your car in there. If you don't pay your bill on time for the month they toss all of your stuff out into the hallway apparently. Other than that, it's a great place, key code entry and gated doors (not always in the best working order) PLENTY of parking room and sky high ceilings for easy truck access in and out. read more

I went to this store to rent a space, and ended up paying over $74 for a 5x5 space. I took the 2 keys and left. I did not move anything in the space. I came back the next day, not ever 24 later to say that we made other arrangements and the storage space is not needed. I only got an $11 refund. The charged me for insurance for a space I never touched. Also $19 for a lock that I had to keep. The person behind the desk tried to help but kept calling someone else to tell him what to do. The person he talked to was very rude. Very disappointed at the service. read more

I have never used a storage facility before and this has been a terrible experience. I also don't leave bad reviews but I am infuriated by the disrespect we received. I was super unaware that these places could just change the price whenever they see fit. My rent went from $75 to $120 after 6 months of having the unit. I have also had a terrible experience with the staff. One day I had pulled in and it so happened the manager was in front of me. I had no intention of tail gaiting him I had my app ready to enter my code. The manager is yelling from his car to enter the code and I am 1. unaware this is employee and 2. going to enter my code. The manager who I now realize saw my partner and the color of his skin and his attire and I guess assumed we were not customers and had bad intentions, exits his vehicle and continues to yell and aggressively point as he approaches us. My partner then exits the vehicle to see what the problem is. The manager was very rude and ends up calling the police on us. The police come and are all very nice and respectful to me and my partner. We explain the situation and the police say the manager wants to ban my partner from the facility which is fine nothing we can really do. The only problem is after the incident i had gotten behind on my payments due to the sudden price hike and after i pay my fees I go in to try to get some of my stuff and put my own lock back on. The same manager is there and all i wanted to do was take care of my business and get away from this man who I am already uncomfortable being in this facility with alone. After I give him my info he looks at me up and down and says and I quote "I remember you guys" and I say nothing he proceeds to tell me that I have to "look him in his eyes and make eye contact with him" for him to say what he needed to say which was just derogatory things about my partner and I tell him I am not interested in talking about that there is a police report like I am not here to discuss this. After I decline talking about the incident He then tells me I have to move my things out by the end of the month and will not have access to my unit until I move out. Needless to say I will never use public storage ever again and I probably should wait to post this review because I will probably receive more retaliative measures after this. read more

I moved my parent's belongings into a storage unit at this facility on 6/30/19. Within 6 months, they had increased the price a total of 30%, and that is just this first six months. I am guessing I am not alone in my interest of dealing with ethically respectful organizations. Don't, Just Don't! As a current but soon to be never-customer save yourself aggravation and find another place. What follows is my opinion and my experience(s). This is more like a real estate holding company than a customer focused operation. Managing their property is being done as cheaply as they can get away with. We have shown up to this location and had all the drive-in garages needed for unloading, locked because of a malfunction that took days to repair. AND they knew about it. Never notified anyone - when we showed up with a full 15' truck and car we had to use people-doors and a convoluted route to unload. It took us over 3 hrs for what should have taken 30 minutes. Sometimes the electronic locks don't work - so you need to hope that the manager is on site or your f'd also. Today I went to unload a small load. No One There! The sign says that facility is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. HOWEVER they are only staffing the place from 2 to 6 pm. While this shouldn't be a problem - they, in their infinite wisdom, thought that locking up all the carts needed to unload would be good for them - not their customers. I came with a full car-load and couldn't unload in any reasonably easy manner - as I didn't come during the shortened "usability" hours. Called the 1-800 number and went around in circles as they don't get that they are in a service business. Never got notice by email either that the hours of legitimate operation had changed. In any event, they are not going to steal anymore of my time here either. I have no idea if any storage company is better - I've just experienced their operation and believe you can do better anywhere else... Anywhere else! read more

Facility is nice, but I was promised my rate wouldn't change. Less than a year later they jacked up the price 30 bucks a month! Now they're doing it again. Why? I don't know because they refuse to call me or my husband back. We've called numerous times, and we don't live in the area anymore so we can't just swing by. Watch your backs here. read more

The establishment is purely awful.. My locker was robbed.. My lock was cut off and replaced with another lock.. For over 2 years I have been paying an extra 15$ a month for insurance.. There insurance company would not return any of my calls.. I took a loss of over 7000.00.. What upsets me the most there are absolutely no cameras at all. People in good faith store millions of dollars in property. They sell a useless insurance policy and there is absolutely to protection.. This property should be closed down.. My collection I spent a lifetime building is gone forever.. Never ever use this company or this location.. read more

I stored my entire furnishings and other belongings in the Skokie PS. The price was a little high - not exactly close to the advertisements that lured me to the PS. But, I have to tell you the customer service was excellent, the property was immaculate, and I never once got hassled or bothered. Even one day I did not put my lock all the way in the slot and the property manager gave me a courtesy call to tell me that my lock was not all the way on. I am giving these guys five stars because it is not easy putting items in a storage when you are in between homes. I just found their service very friendly and responsive. this place was very disgusting. i asked an employee where the washroom is and she pointed me to the right direction. now it's 10 in the morning and the bathroom was filthy. the toilet looked like it hasn't been cleaned for weeks. there was no soap and no paper towels. i cant imagine that they ran out of paper towels and that a stampede of customers used the bathroom within a hours. read more

Ok, I highly reccomend this facility. From another state suddenly I needed a 10x10. Michelle the manager came up with perfect solutions for my various predicaments. I reserved it while out of state and when the movers unexpectedly arrived to the storage before me, management and staff helped me arrange and coordinate so the movers were not stuck outside not knowing where to go. Someone was there when they promised someone would be there and communication is excellent. Michelle, Rene and Ann helped me at various times. If they are helping me and someone walks in, they acknowledge the new person and will be right with them. If I walk in when they are helping someone else they tell me they'll be right with me. The manager and staff do everything they can to resolve a problem. They do not have an attitude or make you feel unwelcome. My unit is clean, and I am happy with it. The integrity is there and I feel good about having our family things in storage there. read more

Nothing ever gets fixed! The entry door on the south end has been broken since July and the south elevator has been broken for at least six months. It gets two stars for being pretty clean otherwise, but if things don't get fixed I'm definitely moving my stuff out. read more

The guy gave me a discount on a unit way in the back that I needed for some of my mother's possessions when she passed away, and told me it was good for as long as I rented it. However, of course, he was just lying and after a few months they raised the rent on the unit by $25 and said it was a month to month contract and so they can do whatever they want. So buyer beware. They will raise it on you until you can't afford it and have to again move elsewhere. I suggest using a different company with higher standards. This lying BS by everyone used to initially get your business is really bringing our whole country down to very low standards.. Is this type of behavior just standard procedure now? Am I supposed to be able to afford an attorney to review every negotiated agreement I make because deceiving people is just "the way it is"? read more

Well... we just rented a unit here for a couple of days (we only needed it very temporarily). We took advantage of the "$1" special for the first month, but with all the admin fees and insurance, it came out to nearly $60, but that aside. The manager was unfriendly at best. Very nice that you can pull your vehicle into an indoor lot that is only accessible via key pad. The hours are very limited though, and they lock up the carts, so it is rather inconvenient. read more

Clean facility, professional manager. View facility before renting if you have large items. Only smaller trucks can enter the gates, narrow corridors inside make turns difficult with large items of furniture. Bring your own cart/dolly facility has only 2 (rest stolen by users according to PM). Size of units appeared somewhat smaller (about a foot) than advertised. Do not know much about security yet, heard that break ins had happened before PS introduced new kind of lock. Be aware that you are required to buy insurance (or have your own) - that will add 10-30 $ to your cost depending on the level of insurance you choose. Also you will have to buy their lock for $ 17 (or get your own - $12 at Home Depot). read more

I recently moved my things into this facility and from my original phone call until the point I got all my stuff moved in, they have been very accommodating to my needs. One individual in particular, Keith, really took pride in his job and provided outstanding customer service. He even went as far as remembering my name and storage unit number 5 days later when I came in for more boxes. Moving is not fun and in many instances it is coupled with difficult life events but Keith and the gang at Public Storage did what they could to make it a great experience. read more

A bit bothered that they reserve the right to increase the price at any time without advance notice. Seems a bit odd and the fact that moving out is a serious effort for anyone really gives Public Storage an unfair advantage. This location in horible. The customer service is terrible. They cannot help you with anything on site. They tell you to talk to the phone customer service who don't care about you. They have broken doors (the exterior gate does not open with a code on the loading bay). They do not leave carts available at all times. It is not clean. They also keep raising the rates. Also, their elevators are not up to code or at least they are displaying a certificate from 2006. Go to Extra Space. read more

In the last two years the price at Skokie Public Storage has risen from $57 to $73 with service steadily getting worse. Security is practically non-existent as the doors are always broken and proped open. It's been like that for years. The door or keypad stays broken for months at a time, then it's fixed for a week or two, then it's broken again. Every other week I report it to the service desk, and every time they act as if its the first time they are hearing about it. The fact that this keeps happening tells you how good security is and how much they care (not at all for both.) The building also floods with every big rain - both from the floor and through the roof. So if you are storing anything you care about, make sure it is stored in a sealed plastic bin high off the floor. The first time my locker flooded, they refuse to admit it even happened. I showed them the foot high water marks on all my boxes and they said "maybe I brought the boxes in that way". The second time it happened, I took pictures of the water pooling in the hallways. They said that if my stuff is valuable, I should have insurance on it. They offer no guarantee that your stuff is in any way protected. (Read the fine print on the waiver you signed.) They won't even reimburse you for the rental fee paid for the period when the storage space is unusable. Now you've been warned. I suggest paying a buck or two more and storing your stuff where it's better protected. read more
