Several things need to change since Public Storage has taken over. I was shocked at the vacancy…read morerate at the Hardin, Mckinney property I'm using. I walked each of the three levels in the back building and estimated that 75% of each floor isn't rented. That's an epic loss of income. The rates being charges are far above (for those of us long-term renters) than the market rates - even what Public Storage, Hardin, McKinney is advertising to new customers. I have two units that I've had for three years. I would have sorted them out before now but medical/ health issues have made it impossible. On the climate controlled 1st story unit, we're being charged $110/month more than the advertised rate on their website. On the climate controlled 3rd story unit, we're being charged $106/ month more than the advertised rate on their website. That's $216 per month! We have checked near us and can rent same space for the about that $216. No wonder everyone is leaving this location and possibly not renting at any Public Storage properties if this exists throughout their chain of properties. A managerial issue is the threatening notices for being late on paying. There's inconsistencies in the notices given and the threatening notices and lockout are in violation of the law. Locking out a tenant within the first five days of being late is not legal. My units have had different notices parted on them. I've been threatened with auctions before 30 days have elapsed. Pretty sure that's not legal. I've rented these two units for 39 months. This is month 40 and I'm leaving of I can find where yo give notice. All else fails, I will email move out notices. I've looked where they say to go but it's not there - maybe because I'm late again. I'll be paying it when a check comes in. I do what I can. It sure would be nice if they would cut the rent rates to advertised rates. I feel cheated especially since I'm older with no income because of disability and waiting for SSI to start and then SS and retirement.

They went the extra mile to accommodate my changing pickup schedule and drop off time as well as making sure I got the best deal available on renting a cargo van. The van was practically brand new and in great shape, ran smooth and easy to drive. My move was local but I needed to make lots of trips to the new house and also donation sites for my downsizing. I didn't want to go to an automated site. I liked that I could go to a rental counter and speak directly with a knowledgeable person to answer all the questions I had from the actual rental to operational buttons in this new van (backup camera was a big bonus!) Overall great experience and I'll think of this location when needing to rent again in the future.

The rent goes up fast!…read more The facility was clean and easy to access. The rate for the 5x10 unit was $51/month in August 2024 (after a $41/month introductory rate for three months). They increased the price quickly. In May 2025, they raised the rent to $66/month, and they just notified me that on February 2026, the rent would increase to $86/month. That's a 30% increase every 9 months, a 70% increase in a year and a half. I'm moving my stuff out before the next rent increase goes into effect. If I were to do it again, I would only consider Public Storage for short-term rental (less than a year).

I would recommend finding another storage option in the area. I have two of their large units that…read morerun $235ish a month and have had an issue every month since I moved my household goods there as we it for our house to be finished. To start, the elevator ‍. You need a code to request the elevator every time. Mind you, you already put a code in to enter the gate, then another code to enter the building, then you need it a third time to request the elevator, over kill and a time waster, especially when you are paying moving companies by the hour. The elevator doesn't have a run/stop switch. Makes it hard to load an elevator moving in or out. If you prop the door open to fill it, it shuts the elevator down and the staff has to come reset it. I ended up switching one of my two units to a first floor unit strictly because of the time it took to do two loads up to the second floor. Issue two. I bought multiple locks from Home Depot so they are keyed the same. On my second month bill, I get a charge for locks from them. I called and said I supplied my own locks. Response was, there wasn't anything they could since I was already charged, but they'd credit me the following month. Good enough for me. Did they do it? Nope. Shows lack of any follow through. Issue three. Today I get a call saying they are overlapping my lock because they are missing a form. They have everything else signed and dated THREE months ago, but today they lock my unit, because they can't find it. Units are paid on auto pay, but one form on just of the units allows them to lock my goods up. Now they hadn't called me to let me know, before this, which is the professional thing to do. Instead, make it so I can't access it, even though the exact same documentation is on the other unit. Issue four. When I set up my units, I did autopay, just so I wouldn't be late or miss it, while we are in transition. They only auto drafted one of the units and I get a late notice with a late fee. I told the lady who I called that everything is autopay and that they took for one of the units, why not the other? Response has been par for the course, "not sure why, but we'll remove the late fee." I'm a huge supporter of local, small business, but in this case, go to the storage unit a block north and avoid this place at all cost. When I asked for a managers number or the owners contact to be emailed to me, since I'm on the road, I got a snarky answer from the lady at the desk and still no contact info. The owner has 5 reviews on here, the two good ones are a form letter response and no response to the negatives. That should give you an idea of the management.

Everything was…read morecleaned out before the 1st and there was no balance due, but apparently they didn't process my move out until the 2nd. They charged my credit card $120. I spoke to my lawyer and since I did not have auto-pay set up and I did not authorize the charge, this is a possible criminal violation. I will be contacting my bank and the BBB today, then possibly the Dallas Police Department after that. There are also homeless people living up and down the street because there are vacant lots next to the business. I have caught them looking in my car windows and would not recommend any female to go here at night if you are alone.
