I booked a storage online and when I got there, I found out it was in a very difficult place for me to use so I canceled the storage yet they charged me anyway. I never even opened the storage unit. I called them three times and no one answered. I left two voice messages. I submitted the request to cancel online. The storage was never even opened and they charged me anyways. Public Storage on Greg St. and Telegraph St. in Reno raised my rent from $187 the first six months to $247 then from $247 to $297 after a year. Absolutely unscrupulous company. The worst experience of renting a storage unit ever do not rent from them unless you plan on just using storage for six months ONLY!! They raised my rent from $56.00 to $86.00 for a 5X6 and now they raised it to $110.00!! I moved my stuff out 10/8 and charged me for the full month. The corporate office said they won't prorate the rent! (Apparently it's in their contract somewhere in the fine print).. NEVER USE THUS COMPANY! A complete rip off! Avoid this sleazy company. Every interaction I had with this sleazy company made me want to go home and take a shower to wash the sleaze off. I called multiple times to have problems addressed (light in front of my unit went out, door handle on exterior door broke off). The phone representatives lied, transferred me to bogus numbers, and generally gave me the run around. Six months later nothing was ever fixed. I reserved a space weeks in advance. I even came a few days prior to make sure everything was squared away and was told I'd be sent a text message with the gate code and all the instructions the day before my move in date. Fast forward to my move in date, no text, and the office is still closed even though they should be open by now according to their hours. We tried using the app but our code was disabled because apparently I had to fill out more paperwork even though I was told I was good to go. ***Update**** An hour after writing this review, after multiple phone calls and banging on the door we finally got a response from the "manager" living above the office saying the employee scheduled to work called in sick and that she doesn't work today. All of this was said from her window and she had no intention of coming down to notify us. Thankfully a customer service rep was on the phone with me while this was happening and heard the whole thing and cancelled my storage unit and set me up with a move out date. I can't speak about public storage as a company but I can speak about the public storage on South McCarran and the employee Monique that is somehow paid to run the company. I was starting a new job and was looking for some tools that I needed for the next day on my first day of work I frantically searched high and low through my storage shed for a nail gun. Unfortunately at 10:00 I decided I could not find it the storage shed closed at 9:00 p.m. when I got to the gate I had to call a 1-800 number for them to let me out remotely. I went to work the next day and thought nothing of it. I was told that Monique had called my spouse and let her know that she was thinking about calling the cops because I was there late the night before. Whoa what? I was told by my spouse to get a hold of customer service to smooth things out cuz they were very upset that I was late getting off of the property. This seemed rather odd to me so I called customer service. The number I was given to call I explained the situation and was directed to a lady that looked up the situation from the night before and explain to me that it was not a big deal that nothing would happen further. Then I get another call that I have four days to get off the property. I call Monique the fill in manager and she is very rude very upset, she is adamant that because of my rule infraction. She also stated that I had been late out of the storage another day which is completely impossible I have never been there at night besides that time. I believe I followed a car out of the gate instead of letting it close and typing in my code to let the gate know that I was leaving the property. Monique said I had 4 days to get off the property Monday through Friday during business hours and two of the 4 days is on a weekend so she is giving me Friday and Monday and that if I completed this she would give me my month's rent back that I just paid. I explained to her that the money that I paid my rent with it was all the money that I had extra that month so I couldn't get another storage somewhere else. I also don't have a truck to move all my stuff. 4 days was unreasonable for me to do these things also was told I had to do them Monday through Friday business hours which I work during those hours on a new job and missing work was gard to do. I tried to explain to her as nicely as I could that I can follow rules and it was just one of those things that it was very important that I found that tool for my first day of work the next morning and also that the people that I spoke with earlier said that everything was fine. This made her so upset that I was directed to someone else regarding her temporary property. I asked to speak to her manager. And of course was told her manager is on vacation till the 10th and I have to be out by the 4th. I asked if I could have her manager's phone number she said no. What upsets me the most is it I don't know if her manager would appreciate her kicking good money off of the property and out of her establishment for such a small infraction of the rules but she's on vacation so she'll never know.. so now I sit very stressed out with this timeline I don't have the money for the move I don't have the money to rent the truck I don't have the time to take off work to do these things. I hope that some people can read this and take their business elsewhere. It's unfortunate that public storage and the company has to get a bad review over one employee. I hope one day that Monique's boss reads this Yelp and can somehow contact me. Having never done the storage unit thing before, I was understandably terrified to leave most of my worldly possessions with strangers in a strange place for several months. However, Public Storage kept all my stuff safe and sound exactly as promised. From the check in with the nice friendly counter people, clean unit, simple check in. To the final check out when we came back to move all the stuff out it was easy peasy. Oh, the thrill when the gate code they gave me worked every time. No problems whatsoever. I rented a storage unit from public storage for about 6 months and I must say it was a very pleasant experience. When we first walked in they were very helpful in getting us set up with a unit that was an appropriate size, we were also ill prepared with moving equipment but they had everything we needed in the store and for a decent price. I was able to pay my bill easily online, this is also where I was able to set up a move-out date. Moving out was just as easy as moving in; I set up the date, moved my things out, donated my lock because I have no use for it and they printed me a receipt and that was that. The staff were incredibly nice each and every time I walked in to the building. I will definitely come back to public storage for any other storage needs that I have. read more

Fell on hard times. First month I couldn't pay was due to having to have a surgery that cost me my job. Anthony strongly implied that I could not rent unit unless I purchased the PS insurance plan (15.00/mo and up), was evasive and would not look me in the eye when answering questions such as 'is this mandatory? NOTE: The PS insurance brochure states that purchasing insurance is not a requisite to renting unit/rental contract, that such insurance may well duplicate other existing coverage you may have, etc (albeit in small print). CONCLUSION: Frickin scammers for a few bucks here and there, setting their own policy/rental rates/etc. despite what reservation/quote/corporate states/issues in writing. read more

I just found this storage unit place and it's my first experience with a storage unit facility, and so far it's been a pleasant one. I called their corporate office and got set up with a reservation at this facility, and I was able to go in there same day. The office was great and the customer service was stellar. The storage unit itself was cleanish and it was exactly what I needed for my storage needs. My only complaint is when I called into the office to get the pricing, I was not told about the insurance that is required to be purchased. I was told it was $45 per month on the phone, but then I had to buy the insurance which was $11 more per month. Now I don't mind insurance for a storage unit, but the fact I wasn't told about this fee beforehand was not very professional. Overall though, very solid storage facility, and it's in a great location with excellent hours for accessing your unit. read more

Gave notice said I was moving out by 6/30/13 I was out by the 22 of June. Out of habit I left my lock on the empty unit. They called me and said I owed for July I explain I was out on the 22nd. They said sorry we won't charge you the late fee but we will charge you for the whole month of July. Seriously they cut off the lock cancelled my access code but I still had to pay 57.00 for the whole month. I would not have minded paying for 8 days but the whole month. The rate also went up 6.00 this year from 51.00 per month to 57.00. read more

Yes the place is clean, the people nice et al. but the rates just keep going up and up and up, i.e. be prepared for a sometimes substantial increase every six months. For short term storage it is fine, for long-term they have you over a barrel and will keep on raising the rate, so that low entry rate is useless over time. Would I use this place again - no, I'd look for a place that won't raise its rates quite so quickly. read more
