Disappointing Experience Handling a Rat Infestation I have been renting a unit at Public Storage on Pacheco Blvd in Martinez since January 2026. Unfortunately, in early June, I discovered evidence of a rat infestation affecting my storage unit. I found what appears to be rodent contamination on items stored inside my unit, despite the fact that I do not store food, pet food, or anything else that would reasonably attract rodents. As soon as I discovered the issue, I notified the property manager, Alex. To his credit, he agreed that pest remediation was needed. However, more than two weeks have passed since I reported the problem, and as of this review, no pest control company has been brought in to address the rat issue. The delay has been frustrating, especially considering the potential risk to customers' belongings. I also requested to be moved to a clean, unaffected unit at no additional cost. Alex relayed my request to the district manager, Billy, who ultimately denied the request. I was disappointed that no reasonable accommodation was offered, particularly given the circumstances and the ongoing concerns about contamination. What bothers me most is not that rodents were found at the facility. Unfortunately, pests can be a problem anywhere. What matters is how management responds when a customer discovers a problem. In my case, I reported the issue immediately, asked for help, and proposed reasonable solutions. Instead, I have been left waiting while the problem remains unresolved. Customers rent storage units because they expect a clean and secure environment for their belongings. If you are considering renting at this location, I recommend asking detailed questions about pest control procedures, response times, and available options if your unit is affected by rodents. I hope Public Storage takes this feedback seriously and improves how these situations are handled going forward. At a minimum, customers deserve timely action, clear communication, and practical solutions when problems like this arise. read more

I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but honestly staff here just aren't friendly. It's not one specific thing but like the way they talk to you, like you're a problem instead of a customer. I don't appreciate it the way they talked to me. I also asked them to fix the light in the storage and It's been ignored over and over again.I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects basic respect and decent service. read more

I am a first time user of a Public Storage facility and I had lots of questions about how it all worked. I had been looking around at different facilities, locations, companies to understand the costs, the security, the location and much more. I had the pleasure to work with Chris and Anna, who run this facility, and they were extremely helpful. They answered all my questions and helped me understand everything and gave me a great tour of the facility and available units. The facility is great and very well taken care of and they offer great deals on rental fees! The worst. You'd be better served finding an Abandoned building to store your stuff. In most cases units are robbed by other occupans in the same facility. Public Storage has unscrupulous business practices. They notice people with the $1 first month rent the. They have you by the balls. They indemnify themselves from any liability if your stuff is stolen under their custody in conjunction with FORCING YOU TO pay insurance premiums to cover against loss in case of robbery which They get kick backs on And is limited to $250!!!! Horrible customer service. The lady who answer and scheduled our appointment seemed like she hated her job, had a bad day or just hates people. When my husband called and ask "hi how are you?" She said "ugh it's going I guess" with a sigh. That should have been our first sign to not continue trying to set up a visit to see a unit. We scheduled for a noon appointment and since my husband had to work at 1:45 he asked if he could go in at 11:30 and she said no they're strict on appointments. I rented a storage unit for approx 6 months & paid extra for insurance. I'd routinely check on my belongings I noticed rat droppings inside. I informed the office staff. The employee gave me poison pouches to place inside the unit & told me to file a claim with the insurance carrier Sedgwick. Upon moving my belongings out I found my mattress & other items to be damaged by water. I had to file a second claim & provided them with numerous photos & a video of my belongings. My experience so far has been great! The on line app was easy to use. When arriving at the storage office, no one was there,but I immediately was able to talk to a representative through the phone number that was posted. They were able to tell me availability and answered all if my questions. After completing the online app, I knew when I drive away that I had secured the storage I needed and everything was set. The follow-up emails were informative and useful. All of my expectations were met when arriving for the first time to open my unit. This place can't get their billing correct. I'm being charged for ins. I waived that an additional 15 per month. I waived it when I first signed up with them. After the first rate increase it was charged. I questioned it and all I got was we'll note it on your account. I payed on time but in June I was locked out for non payment. Now for July I'm being charged a lien fee of additional 55 because I was late. I have proof from my bank statement from June but I'm still being charged. I've HAD IT! Fuck them. Moving out! If you should decide to go with them be sure to review billing each an every month. If I could give them a negative rating I would. Watch them. read more

Suzzane is great to work with. She works hard at keeping the place neat and tidy. You will often see her out sweeping and picking up the garbage people seem to leave behind and always has a smile to share. This is a great place to store the stuff you can not part with. read more

"Not good" is an absolute understatement for the woman in the office. It's impossible to judge the quality, the prices, or much of anything else when the woman at the counter intends to offend prospective customers such that you leave shaking your head at the attitude of the person. We probably broke a record (30 seconds tops was our limit) leaving, which was clearly what she wanted. In short, I have never encountered such utter disgust for customers before saying a word, and thankfully am confident I never shall again. One star is far too generous. When I first got there, I was in a hurry and only did the "drive by" of the unit they were going to give me. All I knew to care about was the size. I did not realize there are other things to care about when renting a storage unit. So I pay the fees for the "free month" (administrative $25, insurance $8, a lock $12.99---now 15.99). I am ok with this for it would cost me more in gas to go to my other storage unit. I thought I would be there for three months total. I got to my storage unit and started to unload. It did not smell good, like someone left something to die in there. I started become suspicious of the rat traps that were along side the building so I looked a bit more carefully at my unit. Good choice because there were dead rat stains (you know, like an outline of the victim) on the floor. Not just one, nor two but three! YUCK! Complete with body juices and hair on one!!! Even if it was cleaned up, I would be afraid of what my clothes could smell like after a vacation in storage. So why three stars and not one? The way they handled the move. They get a 5-star for customer service. I walked in the office and the guy was horrified to hear of this. He said obviously someone did not do their job. He moved me to another unit and because I was in a rush, he told me he would do all the paperwork without me there. I came back later to grab the key, move my clothes and move my stuff to the other unit. I insisted on one not in that building. My next unit was perfect, complete with a light in it. I guess someone stored food items in one of the units and rats came. There must have been another dead rat someone close in the building. Unfortunately they have to wait until people move out to find said rat. Luckily, I know eventually dead rats mummify and stop smelling. Good cause that one building smelled really badly. The options in Martinez are few...and I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the above issue. Kudos to the staff who was always friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this spot, my grandparents needed a unit I went to multiple locations, all were very helpful but we decided to go with the Pacheco location because of Suzanne. Free is not free. There's an "administrative" charge, and insurance charge, and they'll helpfully sell you a lock as well (locks must be to their particular standards). The unit they tried to place me in had NO lights (the one bulb was not working). They promised to have this fixed "in a couple of weeks". My friend was also renting there and there was inadequate (only one of the two lights) working at her unit. They'd given her the "couple of weeks" line as well and it had been several months. If you like to be overcharged, than this is the place for you. Not are you only required to have your belongings insured and they conveniently offer it, prepare your self to be treated very poorly. And don't to be told about specials unless you ask. The only reason I'm comfortable with one star is the facility looks decently maintained. read more

This place loses a star for incident involving rodents getting in my couch. Everything was handled smoothly and the manager Jessica was incredibly helpful and professional throughout the process. I switched units and have a claim in with my insurance. The faculty is getting professional exterminators to come, so they should take care of that issue. read more

First off, I normally don't write bad reviews unless it's worth publicly written to inform other customers for future notices. Let me start by saying, Worst customer service ever. Jessica is rude and incompetent. From the beginning, I made a reservation online because they had a great promo going on, 10x20 for $165 & 1st month so called $1 special. Ok sounded great so I booked it online. Was in a major rush to move my belongings within a few days. I didn't get a quick response was told I had to make an appointment. Why would I need to make an appointment if I was for sure I wanted to rent the available unit. Anyways I decided to walk into the facility. As I walked in I was basically glared at. Then I kindly walked up to counter and asked about moving in the unit asap, I informed her I made a reservation online. She then stated you need an appointment. As her and another guy sat up there not doing much. Didn't look busy to me. And as she pulled up my name since I had another unit with same company before and I still was renting another location she could not give me the unit. So I decided to ask a friend to go rent the unit for me. Seemed to go smoothly with her. Anyway skip to 2 weeks into renting the unit. Every day I entered I made sure I was never clicking out later then the alotted hours of operation. Yes I was in and out multiple times, because I choose to organize my unit to make room for walkway and easy access to my belongings. Apparently u can not have the door partially down, even if you don't want people to stare into your unit to see what you may have in there. That's against their policy. And of course no loitering. But excuse me, I figured since I paid for the unit I'm allowed access to it. And I'm not just "hanging around" something I am supposed to have access to. And I guess there is a time limit for you to be at "YOUR" paid storage unit. So because I had disobeyed those rules the cops were called on me to be escorted off the property. Then later my friend receives a call without a first time warning that we need to vacate the facility and take our business else where. As if we damaged property or caused a ruckus in the facility. Ridiculous. Jessica never confronted me about the situation, just came to the unit pulled up the door, stated you can't have the door closed and you can not hang around. While I was in the unit sorting through my belongings minding my own business. Yes, I had my boyfriend sleeping in the car but what was that a problem to anyone. He wasn't Capable of walking with a broken foot and wrist, he could not be the one helping move things. He just had accompanied me to the unit. No one was doing anything wrong. But apparently we broke their so called rules that was never mentioned before renting the unit. So is this what they do, rent units out to make those profit then kick them out halfway through. Simply ridiculous. No wonder they have only 2.5 stars. I understand that others have taken advantage of their storage units but you can not accuse other paying customers that they all will do the same. I suggest anyone not to rent with them. Oh btw, they have rat and termite traps everywhere, so I'm guessing they might have a infestation going on. 2 weeks into the storage and have to move out yet again. Thanks, for the warning, Jessica. They called me repeatedly even after I had already talked to them 3 times about my move in date & holding the unit in the 7day period slotted on line & they still canceled my reservation! What a joke...then I called to talk to Kevin who left the most recent message & they would not answer the phone or return my messages. Tina or Dina or whatever your name is you need to slow down when you talk to your clients. They also took away my 50% off what was suppose to be my first month rental. I wouldn't rent from these people if they payed me. People are DEFINITELY living in units here. It's not just one unit, it's multiple...so beware. Apparently managament on site doesn't really care about the numerous trashy tweekers. Oh and they also have pets that live with them too. We've been renting a small unit since February with these people and I can't wait till we eventually say see ya later. read more

I just went down to attempt to get into my storage unit to pick up some of our plastic containers for our Christmas decorations so we can take down our tree, etc. I PRESUMED the office would be closed ...it IS New Years Day, but the whole purpose of a numbered combination on the 'automatic gate' is so that we can enter at OUR convenience when the office is closed. This is VERY inconvenient for us, particularly since we got NO ADVANCED NOTIFICATION that you were locking us out during NORMAL business hours... just went on line and looked again: no mention of LOCKING the gates on Holidays, period!!! I agree with other ratings people are definitely living there....multiple people seems very unsafe at night. I was there one night at about 9pm and there was a lot of people walking around someone was working on there car there .... didn't even look like they had a unit there.... RATS!!! The units have RATS!! The first time I found rat droppings all over my stuff I went to the office to let them know. The guy behind the counter said, "Oh well we spray, so those droppings are probably old." Ick. So I swept out my unit, cleaned all of my stuff and hoped for the best. Nope. Came back less than a month later and more rat dropping and they had chewed through my leather couch and destroyed several throw rugs. So, I went back to the office. They handed me a brochure for their insurance company and instructed me to call them. Um, that's it? What about the rat problem? As I was leaving that night, I could see the problem. As soon as the sun goes down there are rats everywhere!! As for the office staff, they have never been rude, but certainly not friendly and have a very blasé attitude about everything. I would not recommend this place if you value your belongings. As if having rat poop all over your stuff isn't bad enough, having them destroy your furniture is awful. read more

My experience was horrible. I reserved online and visited the facility within the hour to see the unit and get keys. First the onsite staff person informed me that the unit I reserved was not part of the $1 for the first month offer which was a big reason I chose to rent in the first place. There were signs posted everywhere for the offer it just apparently didn't apply to me. She then made me and my three year old wait while she helped three people who were behind me in line. We waited in the hot sun (100 degree heat that day) then she informed us that the golf cart was broken and we would have to walk "a long way" which was true. The unit she showed me couldn't not have been any further away from the office it was literally in the farthest most corner of the complex. When we arrived at the unit she opens the door and it was cut at an angle, not a full 5x10 as I had reserved online. She said it was "approximately" a 5x10 and that I would need to pay the full rate. read more
